Jediphish 02-01-09, 02:26 PM well i offered the seller $100, he was asking $140. it's a 50' Key Digital Cable which after searching this thread, is the only pre-made cable that's been recommended. 50' is more than i need, but the price is right. After looking at the wiki page, DVI-I tramsits digital and analog and DVI-D is digital only. I believe that the link between the media reciever and the monitor is digital only, so I suspect I should be ok.
Yes, I agree with your thinking that DVI-D should be just fine since the display is digital. I guess the only reason analog would be needed would be for connecting a VHS player to the media receiver or perhaps viewing an analog TV station via the internal NTSC tuner (whose functionality becomes nil in a few weeks or months depending on Congresses actions).
The Hornet 02-26-09, 07:30 PM Hi there folks,
Say, I'd like to know how many of the people that posted on here, still own there Pioneer Plasmas...either the 4360 or 5060, and are you still happy with it?
I've had mine for nearly 3 years now, and am very happy with it, other than the fact that I wish it didn't have the Media Receiver, and the Blacks aren't as great as the newer models that came out in later years. Speaking of which, does anyone know the foot lambert reading of these plasmas? I read the new Kuros have a Black Level of about .004fl.
If you don't have your 4360/5060, did you purchase another Plasma? and if so, what did you get to replace it? or add another one to your collection? I am currently looking for another Flat Panel TV to put in our bedroom...I even looked & researched the LCD TV's but there were just too many things about them I did like, so I am looking at the Panasonic & Samsung Plasmas for my "Bedroom TV"
Let's hear from you!
scanido 02-26-09, 08:06 PM I'm still using my trusty PDP-5060. It's been a great plasma over the 3 and half years. If i hadn't known about all the buzz about super deep blacks, then I wouldn't even think about upgrading it. It's a great plasma and there is no hint of brightness deterioration.

Good to hear/read scanido. About how many hours do you think you have on the set now? I have about 12,000.
Actually, if I would have had my set calibrated, I suppose I could get even a bit deeper blacks out of my set, but it's very good...IMHO. Not Kuro black maybe, but good for me.
newlinux 02-26-09, 08:48 PM I have over 25000 hours on my set, and it is still good. (pdp-4360). I also have a bedroom newer LN32a450 from samsung and it compares favorably to my pioneer. No plans to replace it until it doesn't work well anymore.
nicholasmcgrew 02-26-09, 09:02 PM I still have my 4360. I've had NO problems with it. (knock on wood :D )
I kinda liked the media center at first, but now I'd be just as happy without it there. I wish it had true 1080p but then I'd have to buy a Blu-ray! This 3 year old TV still looks nicer than the bedroom Tosh, my parent's LG, and even my friends' new Sony.
In a few years I'll get a new Kuro, but I won't throw this one away for sure. :)
jtharveyjr 02-26-09, 09:05 PM I have two PDP-5060s and both are working flawlessly!
I used to have minor image burn due to gameplay but once I switched to a different set, the image burn gradually disappeared.
I do believe that the LED LCDs and the Kuro may have deeper blacks but for the vast majority of television viewing, the PDP continues to be a great investment after almost 3.5 years.
giomania 02-27-09, 08:56 AM I have had mine for just under 3 years. I recently replaced it with a Kuro, and moved it to the bedroom. Now, the media receiver has come in handy, as I have a closet behind the wall where the panel is mounted.
I have a voltage regulator, the media receiver, DVD player, HD-DVR, and satellite receiver on the shelves in the closet. It worked out beatuifully.

The media receiver was actually one of the reasons I bought this TV. My AVR doesn't have HDMI connections (its 8 years old) and I keep my HTPC, Satellite receiver, and other equipment away from my TV in a Home Theater rack. works well for me too..
I'm about 3 years with my 1130, and, no plans on replacing as my "main" TV. Sure our panels aren't 1080p, but I'm quite satisfied with it's performance and I think they have a design that's held up well. I have my HT equipment on a rack to the side so the media receiver was an added bonus (so nothing below/around the TV except speakers).
I do plan on getting an LCD for the "TV Room".

Nicholas,
Better move quick, as Pioneer expects to be out of the plasma game by the summer!
Take care,

htgeek2 03-02-09, 03:13 PM I have not been able to force 1080p/24 from my BDP-S550 to my PDP-4361 (Manufacture date Aug 2005)! Is there a firmware update for this?
I've had my 5060 for about three years and I've very happy with it. But now I have blu-ray. Also, I need another TV for the basement, as a secondary tv mainly for the kids. My wife says, get a 42" new one for the basement .
But I'm thinking, get the new one for upstairs, the main viewing room. But what should I get? I want to stay 50" or go a bit bigger. I don't want to spring another 5k for a Kuro.

A 50" Kuro can be had for WAY less than $5000.
teekster 03-15-09, 09:57 PM Are any of you guys experiencing audio stuttering/ dropouts? I have a 930hd and just recently noticed this. Occasionally, every 5 or so seconds, the audio drops out, regardless of the source. If I cycle the standby button on the media receiver, the problem goes away.
Is my media box dying?
ty87sig 04-02-09, 11:11 AM Is anyone experiencing a problem with the 5060 defaulting to "wide" mode. I prefer to watch most programming in "full" mode. If I change the channel or check the program guide it returns to "wide" mode and I have to step through the modes to get back to "full". Very annoying and Pioneer says they have never heard of the problem. I have varied all menu settings and have not been able to resolve. Any ideas?
I can't speak for 5060, but when watching (comcast) programs on my 1130, HD channels default to Full, and others to Wide. Could this be what you are experiencing, or, when your TV switches to Wide, it remains on Wide and never back to Full?
ty87sig 04-02-09, 12:50 PM When watching on antenna, it is defaulting any X.1 channels to wide. If I change channels or open the guide, it resets to wide. I can switch between non X.1 channels without loosing the full setting.

What setting activates that? My 1130 does not set SD channels to wide, but I would like it to.
Thanks.

ty87sig 04-02-09, 01:59 PM I dont' think there is a setting and if there were, I would shut it off. I dont know why you would want that he image is stretched and the picture quality isnt as good as Full.

Home Menu --> Option --> 4:3 MODE ... you have the option of either WIDE or 4:3 for SD programming. For me this option only applies to signals coming into the media receiver from other components; it never seems to apply to programming received via the OTA antenna.
There's also a setting for auto-aspect control or to have it "lock" on whatever aspect ratio you left it on the last time you were on a particular resolution/input combination. If using the auto-aspect control, the screen mode will be reflected in the upper right hand corner of the screen in "GREEN" text instead of WHITE.
ty87sig 04-02-09, 05:02 PM Thanks. It is in 4:3 mode. I will try the aspect control, I am not sure which setting that is on.

Thanks; that is what I am using, but I am using a DVR via HDMI, and it does not stretch it automatically. I have this TV in my bedroom, and watch "World Focus", which is in 4:3.
Not a big deal, really. A couple of button pushes fixes it.

nicholasmcgrew 04-07-09, 10:57 AM Howdy All,
I've had my 4360 since December 2006. It's been a heck of a TV, with no real problems . . .
Until yesterday that is. In the morning, I turned on the TV and had no cable (Mediacon) reception. No locals, no syndicates, nothing. Both TVs were like this. After work I get home and the bedroom TV is back to normal, but the 4360 is still hosed up. I run a rescan and get 4 channels. I have 70 or 80 normally. The 4 channels I get are local CBS, local PBS, local CW, and one other cable channel. No digital channels, and 2 of those 4 are mapped wrong.
I searched and unplugged everything for a couple minutes and rescanned . . . same results. It's weird because Sunday night everything was peachy, in fact the time updated correctly and the TVGOS was finally back to normal. However yesterday the time was behind an hour.
ANT B works fine, and the DVR works fine. I have a splitter where Leg A goes to ANT A and Leg B goes to the DVR and then to ANT B. I will remove the splitter, but I kinda doubt thats my problem.
For once in my life, I did buy an extended warranty, and it's gone in December. I may get desperate and call Pioneer, because their website was no help.
Sorry about the long post; any advice is appreciated. Thanks!
nicholasmcgrew 04-08-09, 08:39 AM BUMP.
The splitter isn't a trouble. I also hooked up the antenna last night and pulled in all channels just fine. Is there any difference in the hardware of a QAM and ATSC tuner? I would think if it tunes from the antenna it should tune from my cable.
Thanks. I appreciate any advice.
My HDMI inputs suddenly went out... any suggestions?
My HDMI inputs suddenly went out... any suggestions?Well, you could use component instead. There's a general consensus that the image quality is indistinguishable from HDMI, despite the theoretical advantages of the latter.

Try unplugging the power cord for 30 seconds, if you haven't already.

nicholasmcgrew 04-30-09, 02:10 PM UPDATE.
I had the tech come out on Monday and after a while and a call to Pioneer, they determined (guessed) that my tuner was bad. He came out this morning and replaced it . . . SUCCESS!
Only product in my life I've bought the ext. warranty for and I actually used it! :D
The Hornet 04-30-09, 04:22 PM Ok, I have a question for all of you 4360/5060 owners. Is it possible to connect a USB flash drive to these TV sets directly? And if so, what connection and cable (and where to get it) do you use?
My other TV has a USB connection, but these TV's preceeded that, evidently. My HTIB also doesn't have a USB connection, and I don't want to purchase another one. I've got to believe, one of the connections on the Media Receiver will work for this, won't it?
Edllguy 05-18-09, 11:04 AM Will my Elite Pro930 (smaller brother of Pro1130) have sound come through the supplied speakers if I feed it a Blu-ray movie with a PS3 or BDP-51 player?
The reason I ask is most blu-ray movies now only have DTS Master audio as the default and english sound setting available. Dolby Digital 5.1 in not an option anymore unless you want it in French or Spanish Dolby Digital 5.1
Thanks
Edit: Wanting to Downgrade DTS Master audio to 2 channel audio should be factored in my question. It it possible?
Hi All - I have had my PDP4360 for over three years now and it has worked like a champ.
This week, I lost all HD Audio and Video from my OTA amplified antenna on input A.
Input B (cable) works fine.
I still have audio and video for all non-HD channels OTA on input A.
But any HD channel I select on input A is black screen and no sound. In most cases (but not all), the listing of the program shows and the time of day shows.
I have tried the following:
- Unplugged the TV overnight.
- Disconnect and reconnected all input A wiring
- Checked signal strength of antenna (low of '47' high of '70')
- Rescanned all channels (it finds the same channels)
Called Pioneer Tech Support, they told me to do everything I already did. Then they suggested a service tech come out and look at the set. I fear the worst, perhaps my HD tuner is out?
Anybody else experience this or have any suggestions?
Much appreciated - twb311
augmental 07-09-09, 04:08 AM Hey, I realize I am over a month late on the response (DOH!!!) but I would try this for your 4360 woes -
1) Highlight CHANGE SYSTEM SETTINGS from within the TV Guide
2) Enter 653274147
This will effectively power cycle the panel. I have to do this with my 5060 from time to time. I still love the set to this day, but it is getting grey hair, haha...I bet those d*mn Kuros are nice
scanido 08-28-09, 01:03 PM Hate to bring this thread up, but one of my nephews just reset my picture settings on my PDP-5060.
I cannot locate any reference settings. Need help!
Thanks!!

I've been having HDMI problems with my Denon 5910 and my Pro-930HD for several years. The HDMI connection (Input 3) only seems to work sporadically after leaving the Media Receiver unplugged for 30 minutes or more, and only when the Pioneer's HDMI setting is Disabled, then Enabled, and after cycling through the Video pulldown settings. It will play DVDs until the DVD player is turned off or the input is changed, at which point we lose HDMI again. The 5910 set up for your more or less standard NTSC, HDMI input output of signals.
The whole thing is weird because we rarely, if ever, have HDMI or Component problems with our HD TIVO. Incidentally, we replicated the problem with a cheapo Oppo player, and went through two Media Receivers, with the same thing happening. The only way to watch DVDs with this set seems to be going to S-Video or old-style RCA Video inputs, which is extremely annoying.
The problem's distracting enough that we're thinking of buying one a smaller resolution 40" Samsung (We're limited physically to about a 44" wide set,) so we can get the full benefit of the 5910's upscaling. Does anyone one have any idea of how we can get a more stable HDMI picture? Or have a line on a PRO-950HD out of the box....
gbriank 10-17-09, 11:28 PM Coming up on 3.5 years of ownership and am impressed (although, the market has COMPLETELY changed...with the $3000 I spent, I could get a 55" LED TV now...)
yethong 10-28-09, 01:00 AM Hi everyone,
I have this problem on my PDP-4360 plasma and need your expertise advise. If my plasma is not turn on for a day, when I turn it on, I will lose all my program listing ( It just a black screen with no sound and display ) I don't even can watch my DVD movie from the plasma. The only way to have the display back is to unplug the power from the wall and replug in again. Then I will start to see my tv listing and also DVD movie. Sometimes, it will lost all my channel and I have to do a manual TV listing setup again in order to get back all the channels. First I thought it was due to my antenna but I have switch to several digital antenna but the problem seems not solved. I don't have any cable TV connected to my TV and I just view my local channel by using digital antenna. Has anyone encounter this problem before? Please advise, thank you very very much for your help.
Regards,
Tan
sgtpeper 12-13-09, 02:16 AM Been looking through this whole old thread all over again. Obviously there are a lot of pages to get through...
When I try to put in any settings that Ive found up to page 65, the colors looks fine but the image is now dark. So basically as my TV has aged it is no longer as bright... BUT if I up the brightness the colors look a bit washed out.
What settings are you all running now that your 930/1130 has aged?
Thanks,
Jeff
1) Highlight CHANGE SYSTEM SETTINGS from within the TV Guide
2) Enter 653274147

This doesn't work for me. When I highlight CHANGE SYSTEM SETTINGS and enter numbers, nothing happens. When I press "enter" on the remote, I am asked to verify or change my system settings (1130). Anyone know what I'm missing?
(Surely it's OK to revive this old thread. I figure now that the sets are entering late-middle (?) age there are more health issues and maybe some thought of divorce.)
seakwizdom 04-05-10, 06:48 AM What is the display life on the 5060 again? TIA
gbriank 04-14-10, 11:41 AM I've owned my PDP-4360 for a little over 4 years now (woot!). Lately, I've been watching tv and go to change the channel...and WHAMO, i get a green screen. I can see the show along the very edge of the left side of the screen. There is audio too. Thoughts? Is there some way to reset the unit that may mitigate the problem?
Hi..just wondering if anyone has this setup and can confirm that the bd 83 will pass (or can be forced to)1080p/24fps to their display. In other words override the EDID handshake problem that these panels have with 1080/24 material in that they can accept this signal ( and then scale it obviously as per 720p specs)but they dont advertise that they do. I had a sony bdp350 (which died) which worked seamlessly in this regard(very smooth images) but when I tried the sony bd 370 it would not pass the 1080/24 signal(my panel actually indicates in the corner when the 1080p process is running) and it was 'juddersville' at 1080i with bds. Really really interested if someone actually has this combo or has seen it running as opposed to 'theory'. Im in Australia so running with PAL if that makes any difference. Thanks very much as dont want to buy the oppo to find that wont run as i need it to.
Malvoe1 06-16-10, 03:27 PM I don't know if anyone is still watching this thread, but I am having some HDMI issues with my 5060.
I just bought a new SC-25 and hooked it up, but I am running into an HDMI problem. My DirectTV DVR was hooked up to my TV (PDP 5060) via HDMI for video and worked just fine. Now, I have audio and video running to the 25 via HDMI, and video from the receiver to the TV via HDMI. I am not getting any video - Oddly, I can't even see the TV menu. To see it, I have to unplug the HDMI cable from the TV box first. The black screen that I can see changes slightly every second or two, so it seems like the TV is trying to resolve something but just can't.
I am, however, getting audio just fine. I have checked my HDMI connections and they are not loose.
My BD player (LG BD390) did the exact same thing when hooked up via HDMI and I never figured it out - ended up going with component.
It seems very weird that whatever the TV is trying to do prevents the Menu from being visible. It seems like there is a simple fix to this, but I just can't figure it out.
I guess the other possibilities are 1) there is something wrong with the TV or 2) this was part of the first wave of TVs with HDMI and it just isn't compatible with more modern HDMI electronics (except, apparently, DTV's DVR)
Obviously, it would be nice to fix this. Any ideas as to what is going on? I guess I'll call Pioneer tomorrow.
Oh yeah, I turned kuro link off, so that isn't messing things up
In case anyone's still paying attention:
I have a PDP-4360 purchased in June 06. No issues whatsoever until this morning, when I started seeing the full screen flicker rapidly (almost like an old move reel) for a few minutes, off and on. Then this stopped and instead I started seeing a vertical band of discoloration (see attached image). Now I see both issues intermittently: normal picture for a while, then flickering for a few minutes, then the vertical band, then back to normal...
I noticed it while watching cable via HDMI, but it also shows up using other video sources. I'm strongly suspecting/fearing this is a very expensive fix or even diagnosis and might signal the end of the TV, but I figured I would check here first. Thanks in advance for any advice.
I'm interested in any replacement anecdotes people may have. What new tv did you get and how did it seem compared to your old pioneer? Eg, did you switch to LCD and what did you think? How were the black levels?
(I need a new tv for the basement, though the pioneer is still working fine. I have lots on Sony points so I'm thinking of the hx909)
Andy
Hi to the wild throngs still monitoring this thread... all 4 of us
I have a replacement and a repair story for you, and a question.
The replacement story - we remodeled the master bedroom and of course, I needed a new panel for it. Decided on a Sony KDL40EX40B with a built in Blu-Ray player, mostly for the aesthetics of not having a rack of components. I was able to mount the DirecTV box in the closet directly behind the panel and so the only thing out is the panel - nice. This has the B-3 engine. It has great blacks (the Achilles heal of the Pioneer) and a nice picture if it's not moving much, but other than that, the Pio PQ still kicks its butt! (it's still in the living room) The LCD shows a lot of motion blur (it is only 60Hz). My wife even complained that the new Sony 40" LCD's picture is nowhere near the 7 year old Pioneer's.
Repair story - So, the media box started making noise a few weeks ago. Since this unit still has the Media Box (why they did away with this I can't figure out...) it was a snap to pull the box out of the rack, take it down to the local Pioneer authorized repair joint. They put in a new $57 cooling fan and it's back in and running great. I have NO urge to replace this panel AT ALL.
Question - So, I am also curious about how this panel will handle 1080p/24fps.
I have been thinking about replacing my OPPO DV-970HD with something with Wi-Fi/Ethernet, but this OPPO matches up so well with the Pioneer, I really don't even think about Blu-Ray, and I still love my SACDs and the great audio that this OPPO puts out; so I guess the question is, if I "upgrade" to something like the Sony 570 or 770, is it going to end up as a downgrade??
nicholasmcgrew 12-01-10, 08:55 AM I still have (as my main panel) my 4360. I just bought a Blu-Ray player on Friday, so I'm hoping for good results. I've been resisting the BR since the panel isn't 'really' HD, but I couldn't hold out any longer!
Don't know anything about the Oppo and not much about the Sony units.
newlinux 12-01-10, 11:51 AM I've still got my 4360 and it still looks great. Holds up well against the newer sets I've purchased (Samsung and Vizio for the garage, both of which have higher native resolutions and are LCDs). I for one, like the media receiver, it's one of the reasons I bought it (for my setup, it makes cord management easier and allows me to use direct connections to the TV without a mess near the TV since I keep my equipment a decent distance from the Tv on a rack. My Audio receiver doesn't have any HD video connections).
Cruithne 12-01-10, 01:11 PM Question - So, I am also curious about how this panel will handle 1080p/24fps.

Make that 5 still watching this thread! :)
My suggestion regarding 1080p24 is to just try it. My 1130HD will accept a 1080p24 signal when I force that as the output from my PS3. Undocumented feature, apparently. Not sure how far back Pio was incorporating that capability, since my panel is a "mere" 4.5 years old compared to your 7 (and I am similarly still amazed with the picture quality), but it might be at least worth a shot.
seakwizdom 12-05-10, 09:18 PM Anyone have experience relocating the media extender box in another room? About to mount the 5060 above the fireplace and need to find the cheapest extension cables for the media extender box. I've read its a MDR20 and DVI cable is this true? I already have an extension cable for the power, I just need to find the cables for the media box. Please help! If you have done it, notice any degradation in quality?

Hey Seak-er
I also mounted mine above the FP. No mantel.
The bottom edge is sitting about 41" above the floor.
As far as the extended length umbilical to the Media Box, I bought the longest one I could find at the time, I think it's 20', can't really remember, it's been quite a while...
It runs up thru the ceiling and back down to a rack.
You won't see any quality impact from that run.
seakwizdom 12-06-10, 01:27 AM Thanks Randu, do you know where you got the cable? Or roughly how much it was? What can I buy the two cables seperate? DVI and mdr20? Sorry for the swarm of Q's I would like to get a cable ordered asap so I can get this project rocking.

I don't remember where I bought it. Maybe direct from Pioneer.
I think the longest one that I saw was 10 meter.
There were a couple of aftermarket mfgrs that were making them, maybe they could help you put something together. One was www.keydigital.com
I would test the DVI and mdr20 connections that you are referring to before investing in any length though.
Good luck

seakwizdom 12-06-10, 04:01 PM Thanks Randu, what did you use to extend the signal, suggestions on remotes? My box is going to be in the room upstairs above the room where tv will be hung. I ended up just buying a 25 foot DVI cable and a 25 foot MDR20 cable.
The Plan is to have my Media extender,XBOX , and eventually HTPC in the room directly above the plasma, so probably 13 feet straight up through sub flooring.
seakwizdom 12-10-10, 03:02 PM I guess I shouldn't be throwing money into old technology...
nicholasmcgrew 12-10-10, 04:43 PM I don't know much about remotes. I mean, I have a Logitech H1 but nothing weird like trying to go through walls. ;)
BUT guys on the H1 forum are always talking about RF Extenders and IR Blasters and such. I think you'd need an RF remote to send the signals upstairs, and an IR blaster that converts the RF to IR for your devices.
Or (easier) you'd need an IR repeater that runs a wire upstairs and 'repeats' the signal the the upstairs equipment.
If it were me, I'd read a little bit on the Remote Control Sub Forum. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=93
speaking of old technology, I've been using an X-10 Powermid for many years and it works perfectly
http://www.amazon.com/X10-POWERMID-Control-Extender-PM5900/dp/B00023KG40
I recommended it to a friend and he uses one too.
Have not used it with my Pio 5060 but it should do the trick.
btw-- "old" tech or not, I still love my Pio. HDTV is only 720p anyway, and the upscaled standard def movies played on my Oppo look really nice. Many films have a "soft focus" look anyway. Yes--some movies like Avatar would look great in 1080p but is it worth junking a set I paid 5 grand for? Nah!
And congrats on the smart move buying those 2 inexpensive cables! The "proprietary" one from Pio is outrageous! Let us know how it works out.

Jediphish 12-12-10, 07:13 PM Hey all - my PRO1130HD has been in storage now since last spring (2009) because of a move and I'm starting to think I may not be able to use it anytime soon. It was only used for 2.5 years, is ISF calibrated (not ccc), and is currently packed in its original crate, with all components.
If anyone's interested in it, it's in Greenville, SC, and I would be willing to work out a fair deal.

Just got the mdr20 cable and it isn't working. When it's unplugged the blue/red lights flash back and forth showing system cable is unplugged. When I plug it in they both shut off but the Rec Timer light comes on and and I can't do anything. Anyone??????

bummer. But are you sure it's the cable? FIRST: hook up the original cable again and see if that fixes the problem. You may have mistakenly turned on the "TV Guide On Screen System" (I've never used this) and set it to record a program, and that's why nothing else is working. Check the manual under the TV Guide section. Let's hope it's something as simple as hitting the wrong button! Here is the manual

If the TV works with the original cable, I guess the new one is the culprit. Too bad the one on ebay got away. I read this on another forum:
The "control" cable is a DFP (digital flat panel) 20 pin, male to male cable. It is an early type flat panel cable that is being phased out in the PC monitor industry. As far as I can tell, it is used for the control portion of the Pioneer TV/Media Receiver. The "Video" cable is a "DVI-D Dual Link" digital visual interface cable, male to male. This cable, and the type of signal that it carries, is not designed for lengths over 10', according to everything I've researched. It is my understanding that this cable carries the "Video" portion of the Pioneer Plasma/Media Receiver.
So it "could" be the length, although Pio sold a 10 meter one, so that's unlikely. Maybe Sharp (who made the "media receivers" for Pioneer as I understand it) used some kind of proprietary wiring with the standard MDR20 connectors. This page shows the pinouts for the MDR20. Maybe you should check the continuity of each pin on the original cable, then on your MDR20
http://pinouts.ru/connector/20_pin_MDR20_female_connector.shtml
If you google Gefen MDR20 Pioneer you'll see this description on many web pages:
Gefen MDR-20 cables are used to extend AV control boxes away from the display. Typically used in conjunction with a DVI cable, these cables allow High resolution digital video up to 50 feet away. This is the standard cable used with Sharp and Pioneer plasma and LCD sets.
I wonder if there is something special about the Gefen cables. Very weird. Here's their catalog, showing the MDR20 and describing use with Sharp & Pio, up to 50'
http://www.gefen.com/pdf/catalogs/catalog.pdf
AND... Getting back to the remotes. Why do you need to "extend the signal"? After recommending the X-10 Powermid, it got me thinking. It doesn't matter where the media receiver box is. You aim the remote at the TV panel, not the box.

nicholasmcgrew 12-20-10, 09:00 AM I don't know much about the theory of cable design, but I do know that Pioneer sold the 30' one (10m). I know this because I asked in this thread (probably 4 years ago) and found the cost to be ridiculously high.
I needed to relocate my media center because I put the panel above my fireplace. And there is a door on either side of the fireplace. I just put a shelf above one door for <$10.

Thanks for doing that research. It was definitely the cable, I hook up the original, instant picture, plug in the new one and the monitor on the tv would immediately shut off and receive no signals.
I shot an email to gefen on the off chance that they have a few left in stock but not shown on the site. I've found multiple places that carry the cable the best term to search for is Pioneer media receiver cable. Unfortunately, none of the places carry they anymore and haven't updated their websites. I definitely should have ordered that other cable on ebay as backup, I bid on it the same price I paid for the mdr20 (that didn't work) and then forgot about it since mine was on the way. One good thing is the company that i bought the mdr20 and the adapter from is letting me return it for a refund.
As far as the remote signal thing goes, In case i went back to cable one day I would need to be able to put the cable box in that room and access from down there. Or dvd player or anything else. Thanks for all your info, im still hunting for a mdr20 cable :)

WOuld be nice the prob is one side is a 8 foot high door that leads to outside and the other side is a super thin wall. Only other option would be to run the cables down the side of the fireplace mantle and buy a mini av rack that would sit next to the fireplace.
seakwizdom 01-05-11, 11:01 AM Just an update , if anyone is looking for the pioneer media receiver cable (some call it the pioneer plasma system cable)for way cheaper than what pioneer sells it for just PM me. After extensive searching I found a guy that has them but he doesn't have a website. I'll shoot you his email and contact info.
Just got done hooking up a 10 meter run from downstairs to upstairs and works like a charm. Now on to installing OTA antenna and cutting ties with the cable Co.
Great news! It took a while, but sounds like problem solved. And if you're dumping cable you may not need the Powermid. OTOH if you have a DVD player, as you mentioned, you do need it. I recommend them highly. Cheap and they do the job. Here's something I haven't tried, but if your components are in a cabinet the powermid receiving pyramid might not fit easily. Get the signal extender:

Edllguy 04-16-11, 10:40 AM Topic: Media Receiver PRO-RO6U
Hello everyone. I know this thread is old and lots of us upgraded to Kuro plasmas (including my Pro111), however, here is my question:
I have moved my Pro930 into the bedroom and it is great. I hope to keep this plasma for a long time. As everyone knows this model has the media box. What are the chances of the media box breaking down, what parts could fail, and how much would it cost to fix it? I ask because I have heard reports that owners of the Pro930/1130 media box have had break downs, failure issues with it.
Thanks
SrPicman 04-16-11, 10:51 AM Our 1130 is over 6 years old with no problems with the MR (or anything else). As with any significant technology, there is always a chance of a breakdown. But if it's going to "break", most of this kind of stuff will do so early in life. If you keep it well-ventilated (heat is the major contributor to electronics failure), free of dust, and don't physically abuse it, I'd expect you to get lots more life from it. Having said that, if it does break, it probably won't be cheap to fix.
Hey guys,
I know this is an ancient thread. I have a question about my 1130HD.
My ancient pre-HDMI Pre-Pro just died and I am replacing it with a new Pre-Pro which has HDMI 1.4. I understand the HDMI 1.4 spec has an audio return channel. So any audio from the source (in this case the 1130) will return upstream back to the Pre-Pro to process. Since I'll use the HDMI for the first time to the 1130HD from a Pre-Pro, does anyone know if the audio coming from the TV tuner on this TV has the ability to pass audio back via HDMI?
I haven't gotten the new Pre-Pro yet, so I won't know till then, just thought I'd check if you guys know. And currently I only use the HDMI connection from a blu ray player to the 1130HD.
Also, thought I'd check, the only problem I am having with the 1130HD is that OTA broadcast are not automatically setting the aspect ratio anymore. I had it set to auto, but a year ago, whenever I turn on the TV and tune to an HD channel, the TV auto selects 4:3. So I have to manually set it to full. And when I change the channel, I have to reset to full with the remote. I tried everything. I set the aspect ratio settings to auto, to fixed and so on.
The only thing I can guess is the broadcast stations have changed some signal it's broadcasting and the 1130 can't recognize it to set the aspect ratio. Or the tuner is broken. Or I accidentally turned off a setting. Thanks!

Near as I can tell from Google is that 3 red blinks means one of your boards is bad. Not sure whether that's on the receiver or not though . . .
My PRO 1130 has a media box that's gone bad. So to give you a sense of repair costs verses buying a new TV, my media box's HDMI inputs both died last November. I called a local authorized Pioneer repair shop that has a boatload of all the parts needed. They told me over the phone the repair for the HDMI is to replace the main board and that cost of the board is a tad over $500. Not including labor costs too, so about $750.00.
Is it worth it? For me, the PRO-1130 still produces a great image. So I'll likely have it done as my set also has an issue with the aspect ratio defaulting to 4:3 every time I change the channel. Plus another odd quandary of shimmering images at times.
