rskay,
I think its safe to watch at normal (that means calibrated, not Dynamic or Vivid settings which is normal for a lot of people) settings when you are watching the tv and turn down the settings when the disc is playing. One thing I would avoid is black bars though. Just zoom the picture or stretch the picture to get rid of black bars. Besides OAR DVD's greater than 16:0 ratio you should not really have to deal with black bars. Many cable boxes have options to make the black bars grey and after you see what HD looks like on it you won't want to watch anything that is 4:3 anyway :)

Is the goal not to age the phospers rapidly and evenly in the first hundred hours of use? Why shouldn't this be run in dynmaic or vivid mode getting the absolute most contrast out of each pixel?

Also woudln't just running a 100IRE white screen without the changing colors work even better since it is exercising all 3 colors at 100% equally all the time?

You can run a all white screen but that puts a little extra demand on the power supply since the all white screen takes the most power. The tv would probably still be fine but I just wanted to cycle shades of the primary colors to change things up and hopefully not build up as much heat.

You are 100% right about the Dynamic setting. I suggest lowering the settings when using the break in disc because *if* the DVD player screws up and something pops up on the screen or gets unzoomed or whatever, then you are pretty much screwed if it is on Dynamic. Not a chance I was willing to take to speed the process up. Definitely don't turn it to dynamic when watching movies, shows or sports in the first 100 hours since there are static parts of images (like tv station logos) that are on the screen pretty often and the dynamic setting increases chances of some serious IR or burn in.

Best bet is to use properly calibrated settings.

I've wasted 5 discs trying to burn this break-in disc. My A3 keeps rejecting it, stating it's not a DVD so it can't read it. I've even reduced the writing speed to lowest on my burner, 4x, used DeepBurner to burn it etc. all to no avail.

ON the dynamic setting also good to point out that it would tax the power supply more especially when running for long periods, might cause some damage to caps or something. I think i'll just run calibrated settings then.

Do you have access to another DVD player that will accept DVD-R's? My PS3 plays the disc perfectly......FWIW, I used DVD Decrypter to burn it.

I've attempted to burn all 3 file types on 2 different computers using 3 different burning softwares and each time it throws some kind of error before even starting.

Burned the SVCD but my DVD and Xbox 360 won't play it. I mounted the DVD-R .iso to a virtual DVD drive and played it and all it is is a 44:57 white screen.

Honestly I think the current files being hosted must be all flawed somehow, because there is no way I couldn't get it to work(someone who builds and troubleshoots PCs) with two different computers both with +- DVD-RW drives, trying nero, dvd decrypter, and alcohol 120% on each PC trying to burn each image(.nrg, .iso, and the SVCD image)

The only one that burns, the SVCD, returns

File reading failed:
VLC could not open file "/E:/" (Bad file descriptor).
File reading failed:
VLC could not open file "file:///E:/" (Bad file descriptor).
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'file:///E:/'. Check the log for details.

In VLC player.

When I try to use a virtual drive with daemon tools(with all emulations enabled) I can get the DVD images to mount but when I try to play them with powerDVD or windows media player they lock the players up, VLC player will go for a couple minutes before freezing and it won't let your fast forward.

I gaurantee you that the file being hosted is not corrupt. I sue the same file to burn all the dvds that are ordered and they all work. I urn using either CopyDVD or Nero and never have issues. With Nero I sue the nrg file and with CopyDVD I sue the iso file.

Maybe try redownloading the files.

Yes. Full zoom should cover the black bars completely.

One other question, if i amy.

My TV has three picture setting. Other than Custom, it has Vivid, Standard and Cinema, each less bright than the other. I know that the Vivid setting is a no no ...do i use the darkest, i.e., Cinema?

Break-in recommendation & for that matter most viewing even after post break-in recs say to use the darker settings.
I actually went extreme & basically broke mine's in by manually adjusting all the color & picture variables such as contrast & brightness down to single or double digits. Literally it was black & white TV I was watching for about 2 weeks (or no TV watching some might say).

there is a lot of theories on break-in but @ the end of the day with plasma, there is no 1 right way. Just a bunch of anecdotes.

+1, very much like breaking in a new car. Some people beat on it out of the gate, others keep it slow for the first 500-1000 miles. Each manufacturer has slightly different recomendations and each person has different preferences. I played it safe since this is a fairly large investment for a television.

WOW, information overload!!!!

I am getting my 50" Panny X75U today, and am trying to download the Burn in DVD. BTW: Thanks Evangelos for all your information and time doing this.

Anyway, couple of questions. I dont have a new DVD player, its an old Sony, probably 480, will I be abel to use that for the burn in, assuming I can get the DVD downloaded? Roxio should be able to burn the DVD correct?

Now, from what I have read, I need to zoom to eliminate the black bars, I need to put the TV into cinema mode, and then change all teh colors to 0 or 1? Is that correct?

Thank you for your help and time

I am having some strange problems with the Break In DVD. Perhaps someone here can shed some light upon them.

I am trying to break in a new Pioneer Elite Kuro Pro-110FD plasma panel. I downloaded and burned the Break In DVD without issue. Then I played it using a GoVideo 5100 DVD player and noticed that a blue line appeared on the far left edge of the screen several minutes into the playback. This line persisted even upon zooming or changing the aspect ratio to 4:3. I could get it to disappear only upon powering down and restarting the DVD, only to reappear minutes later. I thought this to be an issue with the DVD player and changed the player to an Apex AD600 DVD player. With the Apex DVD player, the far right edge appears a lighter ("washed out") color than the main screen on Chapter 8, which persists through Chapter 9. After changing to Chapter 10, the lighter colored strip resolves in a few seconds. I believe this represents the quick resolution of very short lived image retention. This behavior with the Apex is reproducible.

Has anyone else experienced these vertical bars with other DVD players? Why does it occur? Also, how do I resolve this? I certainly will not run the Break In DVD running with either of these problems.

I am using a component cable connection with the GoVideo player and an S-Video hookup with the Apex. I burned a DVD+R first using Nero from the nrg image file and also tried a DVD-R with the same results, trying to rule out any potential issues with disc format.

I greatly appreciate any help in figuring out these strange issues and getting the break in process back on track.

I downloaded the .ISO and burned the ISO to a DVD+R using Active@ ISO. Worked like a charm.

One of my questions is the same as pcpilot128. All I have is a standard definition DVD player. Is it okay to use this for the break in?

Also, my other question is this. I've already hade my 50PX75U for almost two weeks now. It's still fine to proceed with playing the break-in DVD, right?

Also, I have noticed that when the screen is blank (like switching to a video input that doesn't have anything playing) I can see some ghosted images. For instance, my roommate watched a 2.35:1 movie last night for almost 3 hours & I could see that slightly on the blank screen. Will the cycling of the images on the break-in DVD help that? I can't see any of those parts when I'm watching regular TV yet thank goodness.

Anyways, if someone would address the above issues that would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to get over the initial tenseness having bought my first plasma TV. Thanks all!

Failsafe,
No, this behavior is not normal. There should be no lines and no washed out image. All the images are solid and uniform. You are doing right by not using the disc if you are having these issues IMO. Is everything configured right on your tv and dvd player? Make sure you are not running in Dynamic mode...

jdw0019,
A standard definition player should be fine. Make sure you set the output for widescreen tv or properly zoom the picture. Also, make sure the picture does not unzoom after a title change (just let it play through the 45 minute mark, it should then go back to zero and that was the title change).
The cycling of the images on the break in dvd will help the IR you have (since aging phosphours helps) but AVOID watching anything with black bars for the first 100 hours or so. And also make sure you run with the tv properly calibrated.

Hi, sorry if what I ask has already been answered but I searched a bit and found nothing. I have followed instructions and burned the disk and so forth, but I noticed the following.

Sequence begins in white, then goes to gray, stays at tis level of gray for two more iterations, goes to a deeper gray and back to white. Then Got six iterations of increasing blue, two whites, six iterations of increasing red, white, gray, five iterations of increasing green and back to the beginning.

My problem is that I think I am missing somehow one iteration or level of green, as well as probably some levels of gray.

Is it on purpose or is it a local problema for me? I tried the disc on several differente displays and players, so perhaps it is a problema with the disc. It is DVD - R and I burnt the .iso file.

Thanks!

I have the same question about settings. I got the TV up and going last night. I ran the DVD on my Sony player, and zoomed in and worked great. I was afraid to play it all night, and today, but ran it for about an hour last night and will run it when I get home today.

Couple of ?'s? First with the settings? Are the ones quoted good? Also, how do you know how many hours are on the TV? Is there somewhere on the menu or on the TV that records the hours? Do the TV's normally get shipped out with a certain number of hours on them?

I can keep track for now, but I know in about 6 months, I am going to be thinking, hmmmmmmmm, did I watch TV for 2.5 or 3.25 hours last night??

Finally, just to make sure, but the Break-in DVD needs to run for the first 100 hours??? Is is all right to keep the TV on, and just ruin it for 100 hours straight??

Thanks for all your help and knowledge

I googled "TH-50PX75U calibration settings" and saw the above that I posted on a couple of different sites. I haven't really played around with other settings to see what is the best. The picture looks good with those settings.

I, too, wish the TV had a time counter feature. That would take the guesswork out of the break-in period.

Still no explanation as to why those vertical bars were seen from two different DVD players. But, I do have a work around that (so far) avoids this issue. I am now using an Xbox 360 Elite (HDMI hookup) as the DVD player with normal/expected results. Yay!

Answering Evangelo, I am using standard mode with DNice's suggested break in settings for the Pioneer Elite Pro-110FD.

I didn't expect the break in process to be so complex, though I am sure it is due to idiosyncrasies with my DVD players, which are older models, and not due to anything about the excellent Break In DVD. Kudos to Evangelo for his hard work and support here!

The lesson for everyone should be to closely watch the Break In DVD playing before leaving it run for 150+ hours. It would be a shame for anyone to inadvertently damage a new set with a situation similar as mine.

Failsafe,
It definitely isn't complex :) The basic break down, turn down your settings, vary your viewing, no black bars or fixed logos for 100 hours :)

And Failsafe's advice is what I try to preach to everyone. Keep an eye on the rbeak in DVD for the first 45 minutes. After that when it restarts, everything is the same exact images on repeat in different titles. I had kept an eye on it myself for the first hour or so (taking a look at it every 5-10 min while I was working around the house) before I felt comfortable letting it play overnight. I also had a new tv and a newer high end DVD player (Pio Elite DVD player). This is also why I recommend to turn the settings way below normal for break in dvd use. It minimizes the chances of the screen getting damaged if anything goes wrong with the DVD player (which really shouldn't happen, but why risk some freak occurence).

Evangelo2, thank you for your break-in disc. I've been running it since 01/28, about 12-15 hours a day, with an hour break every 4-5 hours. To keep track with the break-in hours, I made a spread sheet so I can put it the time. I'm at 34 hours as of last night and plan to break-in my TV for about 500 hours, just to be safe. I'm still waiting for my furniture anyway.

I am planning on running my break in dvd on my 50PZ700u in another room before I connect it to my satellite in my main viewing room. I was planning on continuing to watch my old tv until I reached around 150 hr or so into the break in. I've heard some people say they run the break in dvd 16+ hrs/day. Is that too much for a new set or should you run it around 8 hrs or so a day? Or is all this overkill and should I just watch tv normally in full screen mode and play the dvd when I'm not watching normal tv. I know to avoid logos and black bars and all the other things mentioned in this forum. I was just wondering what was the consensus on the way to do this. I'm a first time plasma owner.

OK, I just finishing reading all 27 pages in it's entirety of this thread.

High points:

---You don't have to run the break in dvd before you watch your sattelite/cable programming.

----You can watch sattelite/cable when you're not running the break in dvd as long as: (1)You place the screen aspect in full screen or zoom mode or something that fills the screen in its entirety ( just mode for Panny's), (2) Avoid stations with static logos or stations that run tickers on the screen, (3) You can watch SD or HD as long as you place the standard definition programming into full screen mode instead of 4:3 , (4)Set the black bars to mid or bright on letterbox mode.

----Avoid black bars at top and bottom of screen, see above.

----It is suggested that you run the calibration disc (Avia or DVE) before you start your break in dvd, but run the contrast and brightness lower than suggested. After 100-150 hours you can view normally with contrast and brightness calibrated settings.

----Set your contrast and brightness levels down to 10-15% of their potential during the break in period.

----Most manufacturers suggest you run in this mode for the first 100 hours, 150 to be extra cautious.

----Although newer plasmas aren't as susceptible to burn in as older models, it's still recommended that you take it easy on the first 100 hours.

----As with all the trouble in making the dvd/svcd work or burn properly, Evangelo was selling this disc at one time, not sure if he still is. If not find a friend to burn it for you.

----Any dvd player will work, does not have to be a upconverting , HD, or Blu Ray player as long as the break in dvd's image covers the entire screen.

----As far as I know there are no magic settings for a specific model tv, use the Avia or Dve disc to set up calibration level and then run lower than recommended for the break in period.

I'm sure I left out some, but these are the high points that I pulled from this vast thread, and yes some of these are mentioned several times. If in doubt do a search.

I will start breaking in my plasma next week and plan to run a combination of sattelite and break in dvd for 12-16 hours a day. I think you should give the plasma at least 5-8 hrs a day to cool off. Just my opinion.

Pioneer plasma owners can go to this forum to view the recommended settings for running the break in dvd:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=858851

The first post is the settings for the dvd, reccomended settings for anything else is in the next few posts, just look for the post with your model # and it will contain the reccomended settings. Use these settings when watching tv or anyting else, DO NOT USE THE BREAK IN SETTINGS. Still don't know if the break in dvd should be run for 150 hours straight without turning off tv, asking about that on the forum now (page 247... that forum is huge and has just about every Pioneer plasma expert on earth i think...)

I've been running the break-in DVD on my Pio 1150 for about 6 hours at a time - I'm up to 20 hours. I'm using the recommended settings for the break-in DVD, for my TV when I run it and I'm using the recommended "day" settings when I watch TV on it and I zoom to fill the screen no matter what I watch. I'm paranoid to run it round the clock though. The DVD runs fine on my Xbox 360 and on my older Pio DVD player.

Thanks Evangelo2, I downloaded the ISO file and burned that using my Plextor P716 external DVD Recorder. I always, always burn important files at least X16 or slower, even x4 if I don't care about time. I burned this at X16 I believe. Plextor with the Roxio 7 generation DVD burning software is how I went. Popped the DVD into an old JVC 480i & 480p player and viola. Looped well on my old CRT for a check. Looped it on my new Panny 58PH10UKA for almost a week solid 24/7- all brightness and contrast settings set to low (Zero on my model) ...no problems!! Thanks again

Maybe your dvd player started playing from the beginning again because there is no menu on the disc. Either way, I don't recommend to people to let it keep going because if your dvd plater doesn't start from the beginning again and displays some message on the screen it can be bad for your plasma.

Thanx Evangelo for the SVCD. Burnt using Nero and works flawlessly on the Philips DVP5980 dvd player using HDMI cable onto Panasonic TH-50PZ77U. Have it going for 20 hours now, will probably shut it off for coupla hours, watch some TV and then start it again!

I think Contrast is Picture on Panasonic plasmas, i have Picture set to -20, Brightness set to -20, Tint set to -5, Sharpness set to -2. just keeping it low until 100 hours :)

I think some DVD players automatically do it while others require that you set it to "repeat" mode.

Still if the DVD runs for 24 hours, there's no reason not to "reset" it by stopping and playing again once a day.

Just to make sure: DVD 24 hours, NOT 16 hours . . . right?

Thanks

The colors go from a white to a dark grey in 5 gradients, white to blue in 5 gradients, white to green in 5 gradients and white to red in five gradients. The images change every 30 seconds and the disc goes for approximately 16 hours (double check that number when you open the image in Nero).

I am running this break in DVD now (bought it off the site) and have never seen any dark gray. Should I be concerned?

I wouldn't worry Buff-Daddy. If you turned your contrast and brightness way down you may not see a difference in the darker grey shades. As long as the disc loops at the 45 minute mark and you see some changes in the colors then it is working.

I just got a 42px80u plasma and I tried to run the burn-in DVD over night. I turned it on fine and came down 30 minutes later and saw it was still running and going through the colors.

I woke up in the morning and the Plasma was off and when I turned on the TV it said, "No signal shut-off was activated". So I'm assuming the tv thought there wasnt a signal coming in and shutdown to save power.

Is there any way to turn this option off?

I was actually running into problems using a DVD version of this as well, so I took screen grabs from the DVD and converted them in Photoshop to JPGs and corrected some colors (the screen grab was shifting the colors slightly). I then threw the images onto an SD card and plugged that into my TV and am letting it slideshow the set on a loop at 30 second intervals. I've attatched these images. I'm assuming this will provide the same effect as running the DVD? Does anyone want to verify this for me? I'm very new to the HD scene (TV was delivered over the weekend).

Slermy,
Not sure why the screen grab was shifting colors. All the colors were set using photoshop to begin with so that they are accurate. Your way of running this is definitely good and would ahve no issues as well though :)

Yeah, the player I was using was saving the screen grabs compressed, so I think that's what was causing it. Thanks for the reply and thanks again for making an awesome break-in DVD.

Recommended break in time is 100 hours (although I did much more since I do some gaming on my plasma and wanted to be extra safe). I didn't let the disc play straight through for 100 hours although my father just did that to break in his Panasonic 58" plasma. I would let the tv cool down for 4-5 hours a day. I would also watch whatever I wanted without logos or black bars (use stretch function of the tv) and also make sure you use calibrated settings or just turn down your brightness and contrast.

thanks,

I'm glad I found this out today. I had an LCD tv before this plasma and I never had to do any of this with it. It just worked. I noticed IR right away and I'm glad I didn't use the TV for very long yesterday after I bought it.

I'll let the dvd run over night and then the tv can cool down tomorrow while we're working.

You shouldnt need any options. There are multiple titles on teh disc and since there are no menus, when one title ends it should seamlessly go into the next title. This should give you 24 hours of continuous play. I have tested this in Windows Media player without issue on both Windows XP and Vista.

Hi guys, this is my first post. I just bought a Samsung HPT-5054, do I still have to go through the process of using a DVD during the break in process? I am using the settings for breaking in the T.V as mentioned in the forums. Also the thought of my T.V running for 16-24 hours is quite frightening, is it okay if it is left on for only 5-10 hours as opposed to 24 hrs?

My settings are

Mode Movie
Contrast 70
Brightness 48
Sharpness 0
Color 50
Tint G55-R45

Color tone Warm2
Size:16:9
Digital NR Off
DNIE Off
Active Color Off
Dynamic contrast Off
Black adjust Off
Gamma -2
Color Space Auto

White balance
R-offset 13
G-offset 12
B-offset 14
R-gain 15
G gain 15
B gain 13

Color Control
PINK 15
GREEN 15
BLUE WHITE 15

I would appreciate if anyone advises if I should modify any of the settings. Would I be able to watch Bourne Ultimatum on HD DVD without problems? Is it okay if I bring up the settings for short just to watch the Movie? Right now its a little too dark.

Hi Evangelo,

I bought this break in disk from you I guess for $6.50. It arrived a week later and I played it on a Denon 1920 @ 720p. The player is hooked up to a Panasonic TH-50PZ77U via HDMI from BJC.

I did have to make sure my player was putting a signal out on HDMI and I had to set the source on the TV to HDMI. Pretty simple so far.

Thanks for providing the disc for such a reasonable rate. It would have taken me a month of Sundays to figure out how to burn this and nero that.

Best regards,
Alex :)

Evangelo,
Thanks for this, the idea and product itself look perfect for what I need. Specifically Im trying to make the 100+ (150 perffered) in time for the nba playoffs and my calibration appointment in 12 days. I to have a xbox360 as my dvd player and was wondering if there would be any less effect in using it overnight as its a 480p, not 720p output? Also I have a Panny 50px80U, upon talking to panisonic on the phone, they said just leave it in "standard" mode, which is 50's across the board for pic, brightness, color, etc. But ive read elsewhere that you should just turn everything down to 0? Whats your advice for the setting on using your dvd with my setup. Its odd because Panisonic has a setup where "0" is 50/neutral (the standard setting which I was reffered to use). Should I keep it at standard(50's), or just lower everything to 0? My only theory behind lowering all the settings so drastically is that it may in fact take more time to break in because the phosphers (gases, whatever, you know what I mean) arent being exposed to nearly an intensity. Furthermore, if I take down color all the way, whats the point? Then all I would have is shades of gray. What do you think? Also on panisonics site it says "turn the picture down to 0" but on the phone they said "leave it at standard"...very confused.
Thanks--

You dont need to take down color all the way. Only Birghtness & Contrast. Keep in mind that when you have brightness and contrast turned waaaay down like I had when I broke my tv in you will see less of a difference (or maybe even no difference) on the different greys because of the settings. This si not really an issue because you should turn it to calibrated settings when watching whatever you want (like the NBA playoffs which I will not be watching much of because my Knicks are the suck).

What format did you download the break-in disk in to be able to play it on your x-box360. I'm in the same boat as my x-box is my dvd player for this tv. I guess I could use my dvd player from my other set.

Using a standard dvd player, which is the best format to download and burn the disk in. I have a newer Dell PC that came with a dvd drive, but not sure which software it uses to burn dvd's. I always use WMP to burn my CD's, will that work for this dvd as well?

So all I need to do is take this DVD and run it for however long each day (until I reach 100+ hours) and all I need to do is turn down the contrast and brightness? What is the recommend settings to turn them down too and are these the only settings that have to be messed with?

Also, during the times I am not using the break-in DVD and watching regular TV, not sure if I am understanding what not to watch during the break-in period. Any advise would greatly be appreciated.

I usually ship pretty quickly but I have been swamped at work (and travelling to Houston) and I have finals this week and next so I did not burn mors discs until Tuesday. I the realized Wednesday I was out of shipping envelopes. Your order is the oldest one that was not shipped but it will be iout tomorrow.

How about if your TV has an SD card slot? Could you just pop the images in there?

I know the TV I'll be getting does have an SD card slot....not really sure if you can set it to do a slideshow through that slot though. If you could, seems like that might work as well and save the PS3 from running.

Anybody have the actual JPG images they'd be willing to send? I don't have a DVD burner, but could just run the images through either the PS3 or the SD slot if I could get the images.

Been trying to download but don't have Nero and not having much luck.

You can play games if there is nothing fixed in the same position on the screen for very long. Often in games there is, but some games break it up by cutting to drama scenes, etc. In any case, keep the game playing to a short time and run the break-in dvd as soon as you can. Ideally its better to break in the set first, but a little gaming, especially with no static images shouldn't hurt you.

And yes, turn down your picture, brightness, and contrast pretty low for the first week (or 100 hours). Set your black bars to grey. Make sure you watch everything in full screen mode (no bars). After the first 100-200 hours you can put the picture back to normal and be more liberal with your static image gaming.

Also, what settings do you recommend for break-in? Was going to set brightness and contrast somewhere around 40.

I've read some people saying to put them at 0....but to me that doesn't seem to make sense....wouldn't you want the settings a little bit higher to work the phosphors a bit?

I will update the site this weekend. I have some new Cover art to upload and Ill upload a zip file of some of the images to use on a memory stick for your purpose.

When settings are recommended to be set at 0, that assumes the range is something like -30 to +30. Some sets go from 0 to 100 (or some other max), so you would probably set things at 50% of max.

so i'm trying to run the break-in DVD from my PS3, but having weird problems. when i start it running it quickly cycles through all the colors in about 20 seconds, then goes to gray and just stays there. it seems to be running, but it doesn't change and doesn't seem to be split into any sort of chapters i can page through (like i could when testing it my computer). i assume all gray is bad, did i just do a bad burn, or what? and is it going to loop on my PS3 without changing anything? any help is appreciated.

edit: nevermind, was a bad burn. did it on a DVD now instead and it works dandy.

Hi Evangelo--

Like a few others on this thread, I'd really appreciate it when you have time to post the JPEG files (zipped, I assume) onto your site so they can be downloaded directly. I'll put them on an SD card and do a slide show from that onto my new Panny plasma. I've been able to burn a DVD and get started on my break-in period, but would prefer less wear & tear on the new PS3's blu-ray drive; so the SD flash drive would be perfect for that.

Thanks for doing this. I know this is a volunteer effort on your part to help out the rest of us in "the community". Much appreciated!

By popular request the images used for break in are now available for download at EA Programming (http://www.eaprogramming.com/)!

Just click here (http://www.eaprogramming.com/) to go to the web site, go to the download section and look for the 'Plasma Break-in DVD Images' (it should be half way down the screen).

Enjoy everyone!

guys, what should the contrast/brightness settings be set to for break-in?

i posted this in the th-xxpz800u thread also...

ok, now i'm confused....

what should contrast/brightness be set to? UP or DOWN? or 50%?

for last year's panny sets, 0 was in the middle of the scale (so 50%)

But Randy did say to run them way up which would imply more than 50%...(so UP)

Yet Evalgelo2 himself says in the "Download Break In DVD And SVCD (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=583089)" thread's main/first post that "I turn down the contrast and brightness to conform with regular breakin levels. " (so DOWN)

D-nice in the 8G pio settings thread (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=858851) says that the break-in contrast should be 50 while his reference contrast is 29 (which means the break-in is Higher than normal, (so UP)

so what is it?

thanks in advance

I downloaded Evangelos break in files to a sd card, plugged the card in via a USB port on my 5010. Images are playing fine but there is a small blue border (about 3/4") around all sides of the images. I have tried the different screen adjust modes and can't seem to get rid of the border. Any ideas?

Thanks alot Evangelo, I downloaded and burned the DVD on the Mac and its running fine on a Sony S560D DVD Player. Just passing the first 50 hours of wear-in on a Pioneer PDP-6010FD.

I've heard some members borrow a phrase from Motorcycling, instead of being attentive to "break-in", just "ride it like you stole it"...

My response to the motorcycle crowd was always..."Statistically, those who stole it aren't planning on keeping it very long"...

I do:)

Question: Isn't it better to use a 1080p break-in DVD/BD instead of lower resolutions?
That way you are more confident each plasma pixel will be used to the max. With lower resolutions it will be depending on the scaler of your TV wether each pixel is used max.
Or is the thing I'm saying incorrect?

Pls Evangelo comment because you might know best.

Should not make a difference. Since the entire image is a solid color, upscaling is a easy job :) It just fills in the spaces with all the same color so all pixels should remain uniformly lit.

If you want to use true 1080p images for breakin, they are available for download on the site (the images posted about a week ago for download are all 1920*1080 resolution) but be aware that I have heard reports of some people saying that the TV reports the image as the correct resolution (1920*1080) but still does some of its own processing on the image and puts a border around it. Because of this it may be safer to play the DVD in a upscaling palyer or zoom the image on the TV.

Hope this helps.

Evangelo,
Does the Break-In DVD has ALL the same and as many colors as the JPG files?
When I run the DVD, all the colors are much lighter than the colors of the JPG files I see on my computer.
For example, I never see a "slide5" type of color (dark grey?) on the plasma when running the DVD.
Also, how long does it take to cycle through all the colors ones on the DVD?
I don't have an auto replay function on my DVD player. I understand the DVD will run about 24 hours, but is it ok to restart it at any point, say after 17 of the 32 files/chapters?
Thanks

The break in DVD has more shades than the JPG files. The slides are not thee same exact as the break in DVD, butthey are pretty close.

It is definitely ok to start it at any point and the JPG files posted will do the same job as the break in dvd. Same rules apply as the break in DVD (make sure all pixels aer lit and that no text or high contrast lines, text or menus pop up on the screen).

Hope this helps.

Just to clarify... Most colors displayed on my panel are light, almost pastel. I don't see any dark colors like navy, dark green, dark grey, etc.
Is there any technical reason for that, or does it matter at all what shades of colors are displayed or not displayed during the break-in?

Hi Guys,

I downloaded the iso file and then extracted it. There's an iso image file and a mds file. I can't open the mds file and I don't what it is or what it's for. So I burned the iso to a dvd-r using roxio. Tested it and it seems to work fine. Did I do it right? Will the dvd-r run 24 hours and loop? I'm using an Onkyo 805 HD-DVD player. I don't think it loops but I'll check.

Quick question evangelo2 1) between all the options of the iso nrg and the video ts besides the obvious burn method are all these same jpeg files / picture pallets?
2) have you ever considerd extending the 431 mb to say mutiply it x about 3 gbs or 4? this would extend the 24-36 hr to weeks without a loop being needed and could confort more people into not feeling the dvd loop or something going wrong. seeing as 431 mb on a 4.36 gb dvd is alot of space to repeat, Also if its that simple as repeating the same pics can one just duplicate the files to extended even longer? will they overlpase or what is the proper method? thanks

I also purchased a Pan th-50pz77u, put your image on a dvd-r, plugged an older memorex dvd player in video 3 input on the side and fired it up. The screen I guess was in just mode, so I put it in zoom mode so the whole screen was filled up with the alternating colors.. Noticed alot of heat from the display, is this inherent of plasma's? But is it okay to operate in zoom mode so that the whole screen is filled. I also have to do homework to view the Panny's internal time keeper, I believe it keeps a timer running. Yes, you can definitely count the TV watching as part of the 150 hours. For me personally, I just left the break-in DVD playing while I was at work, watched the TV when I got home, and then let it rest (cool down) at night.

Hello Everyone,
Sorry for the prolonged absence. Let's see if I can answer some questions...

First, the DVD you burn with the VIDEO_TS folder needs to have the actual folder on the disc, not just the files so make sure of that. I would also finalize the disc.

As maverick0716 said, you can definitely count TV watching as part of your break in. Just try to vary what you watch, avoid black bars and static logos.

Orangeballer, there should be no problem if the images are up for more than 30 seconds as long as all the pixels are lit. IF they are all up for a minute you will be fine :)

Hope this helps guys.

Orofar just like evangelo2 said its fine but what i understand with the break in disc usualy someone will put like a break in settings that pushes the phosphors by accelerating process. also by doing this break in disc it evenly ages the phosphors

Evangelo2 i dont know if i asked you this in the past but is it possible to put together the video palets for a longer period of time? you see for the cd or dvd version you are only at 400 or so mb while a dvd could take advantage of more mbs therefore we could see advantages of the disc playing for longer times. let me know what you think

ps yeah i know it would take longer to d/l even if its winrar'd an iso version would work fine.

Hello Evangelo2!

First of all sorry for any bad english.
I have very recently purscased a Plasma TV and is determined to break it in properly.
Now, there is one thing that makes me bit worried about using this method to break the TV in.
Ofc I may be and probably is way of with this, but still I wonder...:)
-If the TV show strong, bright, even colored images in full screen, wouldnt it be a risk for the whole panel to get a burn in, that would be distinguish in a way that the whole screen being a bit brighter?
Like a loss of black level and everything gets kind of grey, like a very BIG burn in?
From what I read about plasmas and the way they work I understand the gas burn very strong in the beginning and you need to be careful to not display any high contrast stuff for a long time, or the phosfor will be burnt and you have a burn-in, right?
Wouldnt that be a risk to be concerned about with this way of break-in?
I mean, the gas doesnt get a chance to "rest" like with normal TV/movie watching and therefore it should make the phosfor burn in the bright image constantly showed with this method, resulting in a brighter screen!?(more greyish blacks is what Im concerned about)

Still, I could be so wrong about all this, and if thats the case I can just say Im sorry.
I have not seen a single word about this issue of mine in any kind of way, so probably its just a great way to break the TV in!
But still I do wonder...:)

I just bought a TH46PZ85U as well. I downloaded the images and put them on my SD card, but I noticed that when I open them with the TV, the first 4 images of the different shades of red are displayed as one color. Same thing for the first two images of the greens. All others are fine. Are you having this issue? I have a feeling this is just the way the TV is picking up the JPEG coding, but I'm not sure. I'm also not sure whether it's okay to keep the same shade looping for longer period of time then others.

A quick question about the break-in DVD

Can you use it with an older DVD player? I have an old JVC XV-S45 I got back in 2001 or so. I know it can play the non SVCD version of the break-in file. But, the best I can do as far as output is analog component, but I don't think I can set if for 720p. Do I need to find a progressive scan DVD player?

Please forgive my confusion, but I compared the break-in DVD to the break-in images download, and they are not the same.

The break-in DVD has more pastel images and the whites and/or light grays seem to run between each of the sets of colors. Some of the colors have six images on the break-in DVD as compared to 5 images for each color on the download. Also, I didn't see the dark grays on the break-in DVD.

Why is there a difference between the two? Which one is better for the break-in process?

Quick question, so during the break in period i cant use the tv for regular viewing? Also, is it safe to leave the tv 24hrs a day to break in faster?

I'm no expert, but from what I've read here in this forum regular viewing is okay so long as you fill the entire screen (i.e. Zoom/Fill/etc. mode) mixed in with the Break-In DVD. Also, make sure to tone down the settings (Brightness, Picture, etc.). I'd stay away from movies with black bars on top and bottom or 4:3 material. If you're gonna be gaming try not to play games that have HUD as they can cause IR.

I've left my Panasonic 42PZ80U on for 18+ hours at a time while breaking in no problem. I'm almost at 150 hours of nothing but the Break-In DVD. I've been leaving it on for 18-24 hours and letting it rest for a few hours and then I start the process over again.

30 seconds. That's how long the DVD does it for.

Evanglo2, just downloaded the SD card version of the 20 jpeg images. thanks for posting those! just an observation, when viewing the jpegs on my computer, it appears slide 8 and slide 9 are similar -- no change in color/gradiant from one to the other. almost appears as if slides 8 and 9 are the same image. Yup, I just checked in a graphics program. 8 and 9 are both R200, G0, B0. 10 is R150, G0, B0. It probably doesn't make any difference but I edited #9 to halfway in between: R175, G0, B0.

Hi there,

Your software seems to be centered on breaking in a new tv, but can it also be used to remove image retention that is already on a tv? The Panasonic plasma I have doesn't have a whitewash feature and I don't want to buy a special dvd or anything like that. I've been watching quite a few movies lately and notice that when the screen is black, the top and bottom are darker than the rest. I can't notice anything while watching tv, but would like to deal with this before it gets worse. Please tell me if your product would work as well compared to using a solid white picture on the screen. If your product won't work for me, could you tell me where I could find a whitewash feature to download and burn, for free preferably. Thank you!!

I used now on my plasma.

I connect the Pionner DVD with Component out in 480p, is ok?, or is better via HDMI in 720p/1080?

Maybe I play for 50 extra hours.

My question is, what happen with the blaks bars in the movies, in the Break In period?

I'm in the same boat, so I ordered the DVD-R from Evangelo's website via PayPal today and I was curious how long it usually takes to receive the disc? I noticed he hasn't posted here since 7/23/08, so I'm hoping for the best.

Hi Guys,

I'm going to run the break-in disc soon, but have a quick question.

the images are 720p, but my dvd player is only 480p over component.
Will this make any difference for the break-in process? I think the tv will upscale to the native res, but i just want to be sure.

thanks

I've read through a lot of this thread, and it's still unclear to me what brightness and picture settings I should use for break-in since different TVs have different setting ranges. My Panny 50PX80U has brightness and picture ranges from 0 to +100, no negative numbers. What should I have it set at?

Thanks

Would love to hear responses to this as well. Anyone?

Is it possible to buy a burn in disc in Amazon or maybe BB or CC?

I know I could check Amazon on my own but I was just wondering if anyone has bought something like this in there.

I don't have my plasma yet but I would like to have everything ready for when I do get one.

EDIT:
I just checked in Amazon --- nothing in there for sale for this.

And, CNET doesn't have a review for professionally made burners.

So I downloaded the SD file, and have it installed in slideshow mode in my Panny plasma.
I have the picture, contrast, etc. all turned down to 30.
But then somebody says this is all a bad idea for break in, and that one should have regular content on the set.
What gives?
In the dark, if I should play this slideshow at night, or put all that run time on my dvd player on dvd Living Planet.

I asked a Panasonic tech the same question about break-in content and he suggested that it doesn't matter what you use in terms of content for the break-in period, as long as it fills the screen and doesn't contain static images.

dumb question. could I just D/L all the file images and put them on a USB thumb drive and play it as a slide show on a continuous loop with my Pro 111FD for the 200 hour break-in?

I ask this because I don't like the idea of running my PS3 for eight hours a day for the 200 hour period. PS3s get on the warm side and I don't like the idea of running it that long if I won't have to.

Hi,
I just downloaded the Plasma Break-in DVD images onto my mac, unzipped the files. I have the 20 images, I transfer them to my SD card, however when I put the SD card into my TH-42PZ85U, there are unreadable files that are displayed alongside with some, I would say 10, of the files. Strange ! I can read the files on my computer, but sometimes when I open the file containing all of them, the preview picture does not show up for some of them.
Thank you

I am currently running the burn in disc on the SD card in my new Panasonic 50-pz800u. I watched about 2hrs of content (to verify that the set was okay after shipping) and then began the process. I have the picture and brightness turned all the way down to 0 with the slides on 15 second intervals. Should I limit the number of hours/day that the slideshow runs?

I have nearly the exact situation.

I have a Panasonic 46-800u. Have the 20 color slides. I saved them to an SD card and I'm playing them in THX mode where all picture settings are set to default.

My questions are:

1. does it matter at what interval the slides change?
2. don't laugh but why are there only five basic colors? What about yellow, orange, etc.?
3. should I turn down picture and brightness or leave at the default level?
4. is it ok that this slide is the only thing I am playing for the first 100 hours or should I throw in an occasional movie.

Thanks.

<<should I turn down picture and brightness or leave at the default level?>>

reading the break-in thread it seems that people are saying that if when you are soley running the break-in images you actually want to turn the brightness and contrast up....versus breaking in with a movie or specific channel.

Sorry should have figured this out before I posted my question. I set my DVD Player to 16:9 aspect ration and the break in DVD fills the screen now.
However, the Dark Knight movie still has letterbox bars. Can I just not watch in during the burn in phase? But that’s a question for a different thread. .

What's up all (note - I can't post URLs, so I'm posting a broken URL. just take out the space between : and // and you'll get there),

Good stuff all around on this forum. Just got my Samsung PN42A400, and am running this SVCD right now as we speak. After some trial and error (no, I did not get it to work on Nero 5, 6, or 7), here's what works.

1) Download the 2MB compressed file that contains the .nrg file. Get it here http: //www.eaprogramming.com/downloads/files/_EA-BreakinDVD.zip. Then, unzip (to someplace outside the zip folder). Should turn into a 680MB file.

2) Get a copy of Nero 9. You just gotta have regular CD burner, with a regular CD-R. Do so by Googling "Nero Download." It's the first link. Sign up with your email and a password will be sent. http: //www.nero.com/enu/downloads-nero9-trial.php
2b) If you aren't successful at saving the (391 MB!) file, google "Nero Download" again; the soft32.com mirror site has it. Make sure right click and save as.

3) Install Nero; will take like 20 min (again, password should be sent to your email by Nero.com).

4) Now there should be an icon on your desktop, "Nero StartSmart." Upon opening it, click on "OK/Cancel" button (I forget...it's whatever button that is not the "Buy It Today" button).

5) Now you have the Nero screen open. Should have 5 button/options on top (Start Page, Rip and Burn, etc) and 6 on the left side (Data Burning, Audio Burning, etc). Click "Rip and Burn", 2nd one on the top menu.

6) Click "Burn Video CD". Wait...and wait...

7) This is the tricky part. You now have a split screen. Do NOT click "Super Video CD" which is what I did. This will allow you to create a project, by adding avi., mpg., etc. Our good friend Evangelos already created our project file, which is your 680MB now unzipped .nrg file. In the split screen, click the 3rd icon on the left side, "Image, Project, Copy." Then, on the right hand side, click "Disc Image or Saved Project." NOW you can go to the unzipped BreakinDVD.nrg file, select and click Open.

8) Pop in a blank CD, click "Burn"...and voila!

Note: I am able to play SVCD on my Sony DVPNS700H upconverting DVD player, available for $65-80 at your local big box/online store. My Samsung has 0-100 brightness/contrast ratings. I also have a Cell Light.

Cell Light - 2/10
Contrast - 20/100
Brightness - 20/100
Sharpness - 20/100
Color - Leave it center at 50
Tint - Leave it center at 50

Enjoy!

I'm no expert but I doubt it matters if it's 480i or 720p. I broke in my Panasonic PZ80U using a regular Sony DVD Player (no HDMI or upscaler just regular composite cables) and it worked perfectly fine (150 hours). The only thing that should really matter is to zoom in the picture so it fills the entire screen. And, yes, the TV should and needs to be turned on to break in.

Also, I've set the Sammy to Movie Mode and have all settings at 50 (Cont, Bright, etc...), all of the extra pic quality stuff on the TV set to OFF, and the Pic is Stretched or Zoomed to do away with any bars ...

How long should you play this disk at one time? Is 10 hours, too long???

Anything else I should do or know of ???

Hello all of the AVSForum this is my first post! (I have been lurking though)

Alright, I have read through most of this thread as well as searched for the answers to several questions that have gone unanswered in this thread. Sadly I have turned up with no useful results. They questions that I (as well as a few others) would very much appreciate being answer are:

1.) What is the recommended amount of time (in a session) you should leave your display on?

2.) What are the ideal settings for breaking in a plasma when ONLY using the break-in DVD/SD files?

Sorry to restate questions asked in the past I just could not find corresponding answers.

I just received Evangelo's Break-In DVD and it seems to work fine, except chapters 2, 3 and 4 in each of the 32 titles appear to be the identical shade of grey. Has anyone else noticed this? Will it be a problem to run the same shade for 90 seconds? If anyone knows of an alternative burn-in disc please let me know. Thanks for any advice.

I'm sure this has been asked a thousand time but here it goes.

On my Pan PZ42 the images from the SD card cycle from bright white to dark gray, bright red to dark red, etc as opposed to the DVD which appears to go from white through pastel shades and end up on a bright solid color. I'm on a mac and had to delete the invisible files from the SD card for each image as my TV could see them and would display "Can not Read File" in between every image of the slide show. Did I miss something here with regard to putting the images on an SD Card?

Does is matter which set of images are used? Bright to dark vs. White to color?

How did you Mac users burn the DVD to disc?

Thanks all, for the reiteration for me.

2 questions..

Can I use an SD card for the images, and will it take up 680mb? Or am I better off using a cd-r? How do I go about getting 30second intervals with both of these options?

Second question, what should I be turning down and up as far as settings? Can i leave it on all day/night to break it in faster?

Enjoy!

Worked perfect on an average DVD player. Thank you!!!!

ok, I've read through 20 pages and my questions remain
unanswered. I burned the ISO file to a DVD-R, and am running a toshiba hd-a2 HD DVD player to my new samsung PN50A510:

1. The images change every 60 seconds rather than 30 seconds, is this a problem?

2. Do I run the DVD at lower contrast/brightness(current, 65/35 per zippybonghit's break in thread) or normal-to-higher contrast/brightness? Appears there are differing opinions, is there any type of consensus?

Thanks in advance.

What settings should I set my contrast and brightness to during break in with the disc? I just obtained a Pioneer Pro151 Elite 60".

Thanks!!

Here is what I am planning to do. Pick up a cheapie progressive DVD to do the burn in process. I would hate to run either of my Blu Ray players for that long continuous.

It will display in 480p, will this effect the break in process? Or do I need to run the DVD upconverted to 1080?

How long will the disc play for? I would hate for the disc to end and possibly end on a certain color.

My other concern would be do I need to burn in every video input? Or will burning in 150+ hours on one of the progressive input be enough for all the inputs?
Once it is burned in, it will only have 2 HDMI connected to it.

Do you guys dim the settings on the TV when the disc is playing? or run at full brightness? Would you run a fan on the TV while it is on? I would think that many hours might generate some heat???

Thanks

No worries dahmer, I didn't mean to sound like a jerk either :)

You do not need to worry about the output reolustion when running the break in dvd. Just make sure that all the pixels on the screen are lit. Upconverting doesn't do much since the slides are solid colors.

Thanks for the DVD!
I just have a question I am running it directly from my pc via dvi to hdmi :)
Everything fills the screen and is reapting without problems..
But my player switches the pictures every 60 sec not 30..
Is this a problem? I guess not but I am not sure..
For example it shows white after 60 sec a litte darker white (grey) etc..
Then it goes over to light blue after 60 sec it changes to darker blue etc..

I also have a litte bit of "pixelsnow" when watching certain colors (mostly grey ones). I noticed that it goes away when changing to dynamic mode..
But for the break-in time I switched to normal because it should be safer, so I guess this shouldn't be a problem too, right? :)

Thanks !!!! :D

First of all, thanks Evangelo2 for the disc!!!

My buddy and I got my Samsung 550 installed on saturday. Only thing hooked up to it is HDMI Cable and a Sony BDPs500 BD player

I watched some HDTV Cable and it looked good. I popped in Dark Knight and watched the beggining Imax scene and all I can say is Wow!

I can also say, it is obvious that plasmas have a burn in problem. EVERY adjusting icon/menu that pops up on the screen has movement. Slight, but deliberate movement. I was making adjustments and just playing around and the icons all move. The sound was actually pretty good. I was worried since I was NOT using a HT setup this time. and plasma speakers seem really tiny. I had a DD/DTS set up before on myold setup and never used it. So this time my bedroom will have a tv, cable and bd player only.

sorry about the rant. Here is what I did for the break in.

I went to Walmart and purchased a junky little Sony progressive player. 39 dollars. I use set of Monster Component cables and ran them to the back of the TV which was not easy to plug in. I threw the DVD in and played it. It started at 8.00pm Saturday and Played till this Monday morning at 6:30am. The disc NEVER stops playing. I did turn down contrast and brightness just in case. I even had a Vornado fan aimed at the back of the TV just in case. But there seem to be very little heat. The DVD player seems to be hotter!
I shut off the TV and player for about 45 minutes, as I got showered and dressed for work. By the time I was headed out the door, I turned it all back on again.

Now can anyone tell me what dead pixels look like. The tv shows a pretty even color pattern, but with some very slight shading. Barely noticeable, but I am staring right at the screen like that little girl from Poltergeist!

Now, why doesn't the disc stop? It seems to be on continuous loop. Which is probably a good thing. 150 hours seems like a lifetime away. But if this really helps , I have to try it. I have a bad tendancy of falling asleep with my bedroom tv on. So burn in will probably be inevitible.

Guys, I need some help. I just got my elite yesterday and I need to burn the break-in DVD. I've attempted to burn the DVD (and have also tried with a CD) and all I get is a black screen. I've had absolutely no luck getting this to work and I can't find the solution even after searching the forum.

First, make sure you have winrar to unzip the image into an .ISO file. Next, download and install imgburn (google it, its free).

1. Unrar the break in dvd iso to a folder of your choice (I chose desktop)

2. Open Imgburn

3. Choose "Write image file to Disc"

4. at the very top of the menu (under source) click the folder with the magnifying glass. Browse your computer and locate the image you unzipped. Click the paper disc > disc icon at the bottom and your image will burn.

5. pop into dvd player and you should be good to go.

I want to use this with my Xbox 360, but I'd rather not strain the Xbox's DVD drive if I can help it. Is the break-in DVD available as a video file that I could just stream from my PC (using the 360's media sharing capabilities)? I believe I also saw some reference to the DVD in some sort of slideshow format (i.e. just a series of picture files). Any insight would be much appreciated! Just got my TV delivered today and I can't wait to start using it!!!

(I apologize if this has been covered, but it's a LONG thread to search through!)

What format should I use for this DVD player. I tried burning with the Video_TS download bit nothing showed up on my screen. I was using a CD-RW Maxell 650mb disc. Any help would be appreciated.

Quick observation. I downloaded the break-in images from Evangelos site onto a memory stick that I have inserted into my Samsung PN50A650 plasma's USB port. I am running the images, but I have noticed that they dont play exactly like its says they are supposed to.

I still get 20 different slides, but it is just white, red, green and blue.

"The images are full screen colors so that the entire screen is 1 color at a time. The colors go from a white to a dark grey in 5 gradients, white to blue in 5 gradients, white to green in 5 gradients and white to red in five gradients."

Mine don't go from white to the next colour. I get 5 white to black, but the rest are all the same shades of each colour. No changing from white to red for example. Just 5 red, 5 green, 5 blue.

Question for the Xbox 360 users here: Have you tried sharing the break-in images (like the ones they give you for a thumb drive) from a PC on the network, and then running a slideshow? Because if it's ok to just stream the images off my PC, I'd rather do that then use a disc and leave the 360's drive spinning for hours on end.

Oh and the slideshow kind of fades/dissolves between images... would that be a problem?

For those who don't have Nero, is there any way to get the SVCD version in .ISO format?

Hi all. I only found out about this thread minutes ago. A large number of people at this forum alone, have been asking the question, which I surmised here (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=16059067#post16059067). Obviously very few know about this thread that are on the Kuro NE threads, because no one has ever mentioned it, until as I said, minutes ago.

I sent several emails to the address given at the Eaprogramming.com website, and told the many forum members wondering the same that I would post back what he said in his reply. Then today I finally got a cryptic (to me at least) reply, from "Evangelos", which I noted here (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=16153509#post16153509), (and that's the next post at the previous link above). You can see a follow-up to that in the next post, #4456, where I tried to find the answers.

I my reply, I was polite, thanked him for the reply, then asked to clarify how the images can be "exactly the same", when are obviously not:

"Thanks for replying.

Sorry but I don't understand. Then why does the DVD method have colors such as purple, orange, pink, peach, etc., and the USB version only has R, G, B and grays?"

I then realized he didn't bother (at the time; benefit of a doubt: forgot), to address the other question, so I replied back with this:

"And sorry, but what about this:

Another thing, you state at your site that when using the break-in images that low contrast and brightness should be used. "It is strongly recommended that you turn down the contrast and brightness of your Plasma TV to conform to regular break-in levels." Yet, if you look at that first URL http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1053444, you'll see he recommends "torch mode" settings for the break-in images or disk! Who is correct?"

Even begun with an apology for "bothering" him again! Courteous.

So I was most shocked when I was met with a very rude and rather hostile bounce of my email, detailed here (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=16153545#post16153545).

Rather unprofessional and totally uncalled for to do that with a perfectly LEGIT, POLITE email. (Of course, his "supporters" here will no doubt disagree and bash me for this, but those are the facts. Read before you type-off). ;)

I was also a "supporter", always thinking it was great of him to provide these downloads, and for free. But this is no way to behave to someone that uses your product and talks about it all the time, that asks a perfectly legit question, and in a polite and friendly manner at that. I even put a link to his website from one of mine trying to help promote it.

Therefore I have no other choice but to post the questions here in this thread. The details of what transpired are posted denoting that I DID try to email him. If someone would have ever disclosed this thread within any of the threads to which I'm subscribed, where the questions have been repeatedly asked by many, I would have asked here first. I'm certainly NOT trying to start anything, someone else has already seen to that. I, many, simply want answers. So if anyone would be kind enough to answer those questions, a bunch of members would be appreciative of it. (Yes, I have searched, as I indicated here (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=16153517#post16153517). ;) )

Thank you.
