ReTTo11 09-28-05, 08:15 PM What would be your suggestion for an Electric, Recessed, Tab Tensioned screen in a basement that is 14'11" long and will have the projector about 16 feet from the screen? It is a standard basement with only 2 windows and lighting will be what I make of it with the dimmers on my can lights.... There is a wetbar on the other side of the theater and no door... Total room length is around 27 ft. We will watch movies, TV is likely with company over while playing pool in the other area next to the bar.... Would you say that I can go as large as a 106" or what would you recommend size-wise? Also, what manufacturer would you recommend knowing that I want the best I can get, but am trying to keep the screen reasonable price-wise... (2K or so) Is there an electric screen with the trap door that opens and closes in that range? Sorry if I asked too many questions.... I am trying to make a decision soon as my basement is being finished as we speak.. Thank you, Robert walkabt 09-30-05, 07:36 PM Anyone know how to install the darn Cineperm screen? The instructions are a joke...or maybe this rocket scientist is making too much of too little. The frame has these plastic pieces around the ends, but the instructions don't say to leave them on or take them off. I have tried to take them off, but they won't come off and the frame is too small to put them over without cutting into the plastic....aarrggghhhh... poor instructions give me the perception the design is poor too.... Any advice appreciated. Highjinx 10-01-05, 03:02 AM Seeking hands/eyes on experience from anyone who has a Draper 92" diagonal M2500 fabric coupled with a Sony HS50/51. FtL, black level information and how is the over all reproduction? egcarter 10-02-05, 08:43 PM walkabt, The Cineperm is actually meant for boardroom situations, or situations where you will build a frame for it or use some sort of fabric to cover the edges, 'cause it's butt-ugly. You gotta really stttttretch that fabric to make the snaps all snap-on, too. Eric LoveMovies 10-04-05, 02:57 PM My theater consists of a ceiling mounted JVC SX21 w/panamorph lens and a Draper Clarion 16x9 106" w/M1300 and velvet border. Its a great setup, but I keep reading about all the people that claim that going to a "silver" or other high gain screen made a huge difference in their picture. I wish Draper had a "high gain" screen, so I could just unsnap the material and snap in something new. Has anyone experienced the difference between M1300 and M2500? Is it significant? thanks michael threed123 10-06-05, 04:11 PM Highjinx, I have a 125" wide M2500 for my Benq PE8700 and it's great. The material does have history for horizontal streaks and mine does show some as well under bright white scenes. It also has a tendency to hot spot. The color temperature is excellent with great contrast. I get nothing but praise for the image--that from people who don't know or see it's limitations. Bob Thanks for that Bob......my present intension is to couple the 92" M2500 with a Sony HS60(Things could change however!). After reading CKL's review on the Sony, where after bulb ageing, the lumen output is predicted to be around 238 lumens, thats only 9FtL or so the 2 gain draper should see it at 18 in the prime viewing position....now that appeals to me!, but I am concerned about elevating the black level. I hope Draper have addressed the QC issues with the streaking. The hotspotting you mention concerns me, so if I do get the M2500, I'll mount the projector at least 1.8 to 2 screen widths away.(EDIT: Dosen't look like this is possible with the HS-60 1.6 seems the max :(....just checked again....possible :) ) Thanks again :) sbraab 10-07-05, 09:25 PM Does anyone have any real info no the AT1200? All I can find is that it is "comparable to the finest speaker grille cloth" Is there anything technical? How does it compare to the vutec sound screen or the clearpix? Thanks, stefan threed123 10-10-05, 04:58 PM Highjinx, Getting a streak-free screen is a crap shoot, from what I've read and even talking to Draper. They did not recommend the M2500 for digital projectors, only CRTS where the streaking is less noticeable. I, however, liked both the price, size and brightness as compared to other screens and was willing to live with the very vague streaks--just in one square foot spot on my screen. Now what's interesting is, I turned the screen around (backside) to see how the image would show on it and wow, it was pristine, evenly lit and about 1.3 in brightness. I suspect the material used is the M1300 material with a coating to get to 2+. Of all the screens I've ever had, though, the Dailite Hi-Power is without doubt the best, but works best with a floor or desk mounted projector because of how the light is reflected back to the source. So for a ceiling mount, it looses brightness. The M2500 was my next choice and has a better color temperature (less yellowish). I have over 640 hours on my current PE8700 bulb and the brightness is still outstanding. I simply tweaked up the brightness and contrast a notch, but it doesn't appear much different than when I first bought it. Bob My viewing distance will be approximately 2.25 screen widths from the screen to the seating position. From your past experience, assuming the screen is delivered with the dreaded tyre marks, will they be visible from that distance?. Many thanks! nate358 10-14-05, 01:15 AM things are looking like I might be getting a Draper screen. I was wondering if anyone knows which housing is best for a hometheater setup.... one that well help reduce waves in the screen. Looks like my choices are: Draper Silhouette/Series M, Draper Luma, and Draper Luma 2. If anyone know that would be great. I'll be getting screen samples by the end of the week. nate358 10-15-05, 08:00 PM Seeing how this forum is um... how do you say..... no response... I just got all my Samples from Da-lite and Draper. My choice for the 4805 is the HiDef Grey from Draper. It's a tad darker than the HCMW and HCCV from Da-lite, but not as dark as the HCDaMatte also from Da-lite. Now back to which housing? Luma or Luma2..... Is there much difference? I'll probably have to call Draper to find out the answer! :) nate358 10-15-05, 09:56 PM I'm sorry I've got that wrong.... It's not the Hi Def Grey that I like... It's the Hi Contrast Grey that I like. .8 gain ... It's nice! rushisrighton 10-22-05, 02:12 AM Hey guys, I have a tab tensioned electric 92" silhouette v with an installed screen trigger, this is the first projector screen I've owned so I can't compare it with any others except a 106" draper premier that I helped a friend purchase, both were the m1300 fabric. We are both running a panasonic ptae 700u. The screen is great, absolutely NO hotspotting, it seems to me like a neutral gain, not darkening nor lightening the picture, overall I think it gives a very accurate representation to what the projector is displaying. No streaking on the 1300 fabric (that would be a bummer). The screen is very quick and pretty smooth going up and down and the screen trigger for a 100 bucks extra is a great option (better than a remote IMHO) If you are on the fence about this I would say it is a good buy but be aware that I have nothing else to compare it to, but I find no flaws in the ones that I have. Any other questions? flavorguy 10-25-05, 10:47 AM I have a Draper Access V, electric, tab tensioned screen. I purchased the screen in October 2000. Approx 12 months ago, I began to notice horizontal lines, about 1" thick running across the screen in about 8" intervals. They look like a mark that could be made when the screen is rolled and sitting in the housing (like the screen material was worn smoother)... Unfortunately, now that I have the AccessV housing installed in my ceiling, I don't want to replace the housing, but would consider purchasing another Draper screen which can be placed inside the housing. Are the bands which I am seeing the "Horizontal Streaking".... Has any one else had a similiar issue with the screen developing bands (Draper or other makes) with roll up screens... I'd also like to get other user opnions on the M2500 material since if I upgrade to a Ruby, I might benefit by the extra gain... threed123 10-27-05, 03:41 PM Hijinx--sorry on not getting back to you. Yes, you will see the streaking from that distance--about the same distance I sit from my screen. It's a contrast problem created by an uneven flow of the chemicals spread on the vinyl to increase the brightness. The M2500 material is very flimsy (or should I say filmsy) and stretchy and requires a Cineperm tensioned screen frame. I'll try to get some pics of the streaking this weekend if I can. Bob Thanks Bob!........................look forward to those pics! I may have to convince myself to lean toward a High Power and find away to table mount the projector! :) WabashMX5 11-08-05, 07:02 AM Just got my PLV-Z3 last week, and the room's finally set up to where it's time to get a screen. It's a small, budget setup — I'll only run about 80"-82" diagonal, with the PJ mounted on a rear shelf just above the viewers' heads. As a default, I'll take Elite's budget 80" screen (they call it 84", but that doesn't account for the masking borders). However, I'm curious about color accuracy on a Draper Luma with the high-contrast grey material. My wife likes a little ambient light during movies (:(), and the Luma looks like about the only screen I can find in that small a size with a high-contrast material.... Any input? Thanks in advance. WabashMX5 11-11-05, 03:23 PM I'm curious about color accuracy on a Draper Luma with the high-contrast grey material. Anyone willing to share their two cents' worth on this? I hope to upgrade from our temporary screen (a bedsheet  ) to the real thing soon! WabashMX5 11-14-05, 05:10 PM Never mind -- looks like my setup is ideal to take full advantage of a GrayWolf, so I just put one on order. ontheinside 11-16-05, 11:48 AM My theater consists of a ceiling mounted JVC SX21 w/panamorph lens and a Draper Clarion 16x9 106" w/M1300 and velvet border. Is it significant? thanks michael The M2500 is the high gain material from Draper. I like white screens, true colors, no hot spotting, easy to watch. I was at a trade show and a projector was being shown on a silver screen and the presenter said to come back tomorrow when their white screen would be in. Was damaged in transit. The projector looked so much better on white than silver. LoveMovies 11-16-05, 11:56 AM Ontheinside, So, you are saying you saw a particular setup using a silver screen one day and with a white screen the next day (which you preferred)? Whose/which screens did you see and what type of projector was it? thanks michael tbase1 11-19-05, 10:54 AM I own a Draper 7' high contrast grey and it's a great screen for DLP ,LCD ,and DiLA projectors. fhw 11-27-05, 08:02 PM I have a dedicated HT setup in my basement with very dark walls (chocolate brown) and low ambient light. With a panny 900, would the Hi-Def Grey be a better or worse performer than the M1300? It will likely be 92" Cineperm, with a viewing distance of about 15-17 feet. tbase1 11-27-05, 08:31 PM The M1300 works better with crt's. Yes ,the HC Grey works great with digital projectors. fhw 11-28-05, 04:32 PM tbase1, The HC Grey is only available with pull-down screens. Is there a difference between it and the Hi-Def grey in performance (I'm going with a fixed screen). Something that confused me was that Projector Central (the supposed leading review site) was down on the HiDef screen relative to Stewart (fair enough), but didn't directly compare it to DaLite's HCCV. I have the opportunity to get a Draper screen wholesale, which means I would be paying the equivalent of $150 US dollars LESS for Draper than DaLite, and close to $800 LESS than than Stewart. Is there any way to justify that increase in cost, relative to, for example, upgrading my choice of projector or DVD player? shelly 11-30-05, 08:46 PM I'm amazed that the problems with the M2500 have not changed. I went through 3 of them about 5 years ago when I purchased my first pj. Each of them had vertical streaking that was very visible on all light, bright scenes. One had a creased, tread pattern on it as if it was cut from the end of a roll. But, colors just pop off the screen. I guess you can't have your cake and eat it too. I could not live with the vertical streaking but sure do miss the vibrancy of tthe colors. I wound up with the M1300 with a gain of 1.0 (although it sounds like it's 1.3) on a fixed snap frame. It is perfectly smooth with no hot spots. I've considered changing fabric for better blacks from lcd pj but Draper wants me to send back the frame for a perfect match. I just know that there is no way I would be able to get the frame pieces apart as I had to hammer them into each other at the time. I would probably get a complete new screen of 1.3 gain from another manufacturer if I decided to get a defferent material. Draper was great to work with, though, replacing my screen three times for no charge. And they always sent the screen fabric rolled on a core at my request to avoid any creases due to folding. Shelly Holograman 12-01-05, 11:49 PM I read that it is possible that Draper offers an acoustic transmissive screen that may work for my needs. I am getting a Pan AE900 to go with my Focal Sib&Cub 5.1 in a new HT in living room, light controlled but will be some ambient light (as people need to walk around safely) and white ceiling/yellow walls. In our space, the best place by far for speakers is behind screen. As the AE900 does not have very high light output, ideally Iwould use a high gain, but I have read with ambient light best to go with a light grey or matte white at best. Screen must be a pull down (manual or electric) ideal size 106" diag. in 16:9 format. I am hoping not to spend more than 1,000 bucks. Does Draper offer something that is likely to work? Thank you for your time.. Ronomy 12-28-05, 10:10 AM Hijinx--sorry on not getting back to you. Yes, you will see the streaking from that distance--about the same distance I sit from my screen. However, I used a hair dryer to get rid of them on my M2500. I also had a piece of packaging foam that got on the screen when they rolled it back at the factory. So I had a small dot of streached vinal at 8 inchs apart. The blow dryer worked great at getting rid of them. Ron gsmollin 12-29-05, 11:57 PM How grey are the grey high contrast screens Draper makes? A good answer would be numeric, such as an 8-bit grey scale comparison. Thanks for any replies. Ronomy 01-02-06, 10:25 PM I have an older M2500 that has some streaks...they don't bother me much tho. However, I purchased a new motorized version of the same screen for a new room I was building. Purchased it about a year ago. Just tried it out yesterday and I lucked out. No streaks at all! I got a perfect M2500. Sweet! Ron Update! I've watched a couple movies over the weekend and realized I don't have the M2500 screen. It has to be the M1300. I thought it looked a little dimmer but now my new theater room is light controlled with dark marron walls, black carpet and black theater seating (like being in a black hole during a movie...its awesome). I must say I'm happy with the M1300. No hot spotting and the screen holds the same brightness anywhere in the room. No streaks or tire tracks and I never see the screen itself like I could with my old M2500 (because of the tire tracks/streaks). The slight sheen I used to see on white football player jerseys with the M2500 is completely gone now. Colors look just as good. Other than the slightly dimmer picture the color balance looks just as good. Shadow detail looks better with the the M1300 or so it seams but I'm basing this on memory and it's probably the light controlled room that is making the difference. Although I'm happy with it...it wasn't what I ordered. I can't do anything about it now because its been over a year since I purchased the screen. The original box did say M2500 on it but there is no way this is the M2500. Draper packaging mistake for sure. So, I didn't get a perfect M2500! Ron Update! Draper sent me samples of both the M1300 and M2500. I do have a M2500 screen. Thanks, Jim Z chief_gatekeeper 02-14-06, 06:12 AM To Holograman, Draper has the AT1200 and AT Grey surfaces as their acoustically-transparent screens, but it looks like they're only available with the Draper Access/series E, Access Sonata E, Cineperm, Salara, Signature/series E, Silhouette/series E and Targa models. Go to Draper's website and drool over your choices! :D rushisrighton 03-05-06, 01:04 PM I just painted my screen wall..........WOW what a difference  . I finally did it while the wife was at work... (sugar mama :) ) I'm glad I did, the only thing now is I realize how "not black" the blacks are from my projector, when the wall was white the "projector" blacks looked black! Anyway it made a pretty big difference and it makes my wall just a screen versus screen, speakers, tv, clutter. Alot less distracting and easier to watch. You can see my screen by clicking on my sig. It's a draper acces v m1300 tensioned electric, although I haven't put a pic up of the screen down after painting yet, but you'll get it. SYC 05-08-06, 03:13 PM I want to buy one of them. The four corners of Onyx is made of plastic, but is it strong enough? What is the material of the four corners of Clarion? SYC Screen Saver 05-19-06, 05:09 PM I've seen them both. The Onyx and Clarion corners are made of the same material, and it seems pretty strong. The Onyx frame (and therefore corners) are wider, so you might see some extra strength there in large sizes. Both products have a one-year warranty. angryht 08-06-06, 12:37 AM I recently got a used (maybe a couple years old) Draper Clarion 80" by 60" . My question is this: How do I know what type of material it is? From what I understand - the material will be one of the following: M1300, M2500, HiDef Grey, Cineflex, AT1200, and AT Grey. I am pretty sure it's a vinyl screen because it has no backing. That would narrow it down to M1300, M2500, HiDef Grey or the Ciniflex. I took the screen off of the frame hoping the material would be printed on the edge of the screen. It was not. Can anybody help me determine what type of screen material it is has on it. I would like to know how to clean it... -Greg cameronl 08-29-06, 10:27 AM hi there, I'm in the market for a good quality portal (16:9) projector screen. I hear the draper traveller is the best one about. Has anyone seen one of these? How does it compare to a normal screen. I'm not expecting it to beat my 6' luxus modeal A firehawlk but I don't want it to be to far of the pace either. Do draper much a model to compete with the firehawlk by chance? I'd also be happy with a 1.3 gain screen. thanks CaM angel2167882 01-10-07, 11:33 PM I will probably get an Optoma HD72 soon and it will be ceiling mounted... now I was first looking at GreyWolf but it's seems a very poor choice with ceiling mount, because it reflect most of brightness back to the light source and table setup is not an option. So I was looking at the other screens my provider carry (go to Softmagic.ca -> Projectors->Screens, need 5 posts) I saw Draper Luma Luma HDTV 16x9 106" screen with 12" black drop available in either grey matte (0.8 gain) or white matte. Which one will be better? My room is all white painted and seating position will be low above ground (futon couch) so angle is important. Ambient light will be mostly reduced for movie but little more for PC gaming. They also said they could have all the Draper line-up so if there is another not so expensive 106" that fit my need, I'm waiting suggestions! WindsorTheater 02-11-07, 11:00 PM Can anyone recommend a retailer who sells the draper access/e or access/v products for a decent price? I've seen everything on the net from 1500 - 5K.. seems like screens are all over the map. Ideally I'd like to keep the screen around $1K... but if not I need somewhere to purchase just the recessed case first and then a screen somewhere down the road. Budget reasons. Any suggestions appreciated. jayfoster 02-23-07, 09:05 PM I have a ceiling mount projector. I am in a rather large room that is not completely light controlled although it will be a lot darker after I install some exterior locking shutters over the windows. I have to return a Draper motorized Targa screen to Draper because it has a "wave" in it. The one I have is about 133" image area. I suppose this is because it was not the tensioned type. I get a credit from Draper on this screen and intend to purchase a motorized tensioned screen from Draper. Any suggestions? Screen Saver 02-26-07, 09:06 AM The Draper model Premier is similar to the Targa, with a tensioning system. mlowie 02-26-07, 07:40 PM Hey all, I recently bought/installed a 106in Draper Salara PnP and am reallly happy with it. I had a question on the adjustment of the down stop. The manual shows where to adjust it but the two holes are not labeled. Anyone know which hole is for the up stop and which is for the down stop? Thanks in advance. Mlowie dfrench 02-27-07, 09:22 AM The limit closest to the back of the case (or furthest from the audience) is the down adjustment. Use a 5/32" allen wrench or very small flat head screwdriver to turn the limit switch. If you want it to stop sooner, turn the limit switch clockwise. Make any down limit adjustments with the screen up, then run down to check the position. mlowie 02-28-07, 10:28 PM Cool beans, thanks dfrench. Thats the info I needed to keep my screen off of my center channel. Any idea how much a 1/4 or 1/8 turn would equate to in limit change? dfrench 03-01-07, 10:52 PM One full turn will make about 2/3" change on the Salara. This should give you an idea of how much you should turn the limit. It is a little bit of trial and error. mlowie 03-03-07, 05:33 PM I found the set screw and unfortunately turning it does absolutely nothing. I have contacted Kirk from PP to see if he can help me get this fixed. Strange that the front one works to adjust the up stop yet the down stop yields no change. mtobin 05-07-07, 01:00 PM I recently purchased a 133" m2500 CinePerm screen from The final click. The screen was easy to assemble and install. I was concerned about quality issues with the product based on the posts I had read, many people were reporting streaks and tire tracks. I number of posts I read reported that the issues with the screen had been addressed so I went ahead and order it. After viewing it for a short period of time I noticed streaks. I contacted the dealer I purchased it from and they were very nice and another screen is on its way. It looks like there may still be some manufacturing issues with the m2500 screens still. Besides the streaks I am very happy with the screen, bright, good color and no hot spots. I will report back when I get the new screen, I have my fingers crossed. It is perfect, no streaks or marks of any kind. I think it is also a bit brighter. I am very happy with the screen and would recommend it. It is equally bright from all seats in the room. If I get a chance I will post some pictures of the screen with a 1.0 gain piece of paper taped to it. surrey lad 05-19-07, 09:05 AM Recently received my m1300 fabric on a roll, on unrolling the fabric there doesn't appear to be any markings or labels distinguishing what face to use as the front. One side is smooth with a slight sheen to it and the other side is duller, almost matte with a very fine texture. I've been told by the company that supplied the fabric to use the matte side but then I've also read on these forums that the smooth shiny side is the face  Is the shiny side 1.3 and the matte being 1.0 gain.....? JimMac 05-22-07, 12:25 PM I recently purchased a 133" m2500 CinePerm screen from The final click. Bad news, I was thinking about ordering that same screen. I'll wait on your report. Maybe they send the defective screens first to see if anyone notices ? My sample of the M2500 material seemed to allow light to shine through, not a lot but it seems to be a little translucent when placing on top of some printed material. Does your screen have a backing ? Thanks, Jim Laserfan 12-23-07, 01:50 PM There sure isn't much activity in here--is there a reason Draper isn't more popular? I am looking at a Multiview High Contrast Grey and could sure use some opinions: 1. The Multiview E has a second roller-with-motor for side-masking. Anyone have one? 2. What about High Contrast Grey? At 0.8 gain I'm looking at using this with my HC4900 which needs help w/blacks. Anyone NOT happy with theirs? TIA for any input. ambientcafe 02-26-08, 04:42 AM What about High Contrast Grey? At 0.8 gain I'm looking at using this with my HC4900 which needs help w/blacks. Anyone NOT happy with theirs? I'm using a 2.35-AR, 140" Luma 2 High Contrast Grey screen w/a Panny PT-AX100 pj at a throw distance of approx 20'. I'm also using a Panamorph U85 VC lens, which is supposed to slightly increase brightness. I was initially worried about overall brightness because of the screen size, throw distance and the pj's lumen output; but because the AX100 is a very bright pj (2,000 lumens!), it's able to overcome the screen material's lower gain (0.8) and deliver a very satisfying picture (even if it is only 720p). I went w/the High Contrast since I prefer a little ambient light on at all times and because of my pj's contrast ratio spec of 6,000 -- which is average, but not stellar. I think if you kept your screen size b/w 100 - 120", and as long as your pj specs at least 1,000 lumens, you should be pleased w/the results. If I could afford it, I'd pull the trigger on Stewart's Firehawk or Grayhawk. Otherwise, there's no denying that Draper offers the best value. And yes, I totally agree w/your observation that the Draper thread is uncomfortably quiet....maybe we're too busy enjoying our respective H/T's! (lol) In my case, I'm busy monitoring the HDDVD 'fire sales' ! (lol again). CaRaBeeN 04-24-08, 11:21 AM Hi all, I am planning to purchase Draper Luma 2 16x9 58"x104" screen for my Panny ax-100 with glass beaded surface.. Any recommendation or tips? stub 06-19-08, 09:51 AM Looks like it will be a long shot getting a reply in this thread but here goes, Can someone check this screen out and give me pro's and con's on it. Looks great to me and the price cannot be beat. It's a Draper w/ 4:3 aspect, 136" diag, 1.0x gain and is matte white/fiber glass. It will be used in a HT setting for DVD's and Video games. Since its a 4:3 it can always be ajusted to use with 16:9. Direct link wouldnt work so go to ebay and type in item #230104399900 angryht 06-19-08, 10:08 AM You are right, that is a good price. Do you have a PJ already or do you have one in mind? angryht 06-19-08, 10:10 AM Do you have control of ambient light? angryht 06-19-08, 10:26 AM Here is the LINK (http://cgi.*********/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230104399900&ru=http://search.*********:80/230104399900_W0QQ_trksidZm37QQfromZR40QQfviZ1) to the screen. I have a fixed draper screen with 1.0 gain. I also have complete control of ambient light and a DLP PJ. Pros: 1. low gain usually equals less likely to have hot spots 2. Pull down = convenience (if you have kids - nice to be able to get it out of harms way) 3. 4:3 can be easily masked (I use styrofoam wrapped with black felt) 4. Price 5. Price 6. Price (you get it) Cons: 1. Pull down screens can suffer from 'waves' 2. If you can't control ambient light, the gain might be too low. 3. Can't think of any other cons. stub 06-19-08, 10:38 AM Sorry ment to post both of those things, Living room setting, zero ambient light if i choose, so 95% of the time it will be this way. Projector will be the Optoma HD65 distance would be 15.5-16 feet to achieve 136" diag with this PJ. stub 06-19-08, 10:42 AM Same seller (i think) also has a Da-Lite 136" screen for about the same price, i think the gain on that is 1.1 so its a little higher. Currently i dont want a fixed screen since i dont own this house im in. Electric would be nice but not a must, im currently using a Da-Lite 4:3 screen that gives me 120" diag and im very happy with it. angryht 06-19-08, 10:44 AM I'd say go for it! That's pretty big. What will be the main source(s) SD DVD, Blu-ray, hdtv, hd dvd? That looks like a nice PJ, too. angryht 06-19-08, 10:47 AM How close is the sweet spot to the screen? Depending on your distance you may get some screen door effect. stub 06-19-08, 10:53 AM Not sure what you mean by how close is the sweet spot to the screen unless u mean the PJ, it will be about 15.5 feet away, i will be using..... DVD = Oppo uncoverting dvd player at 720p via HDMI cable (since using 1080p wont look quite as good on this PJ since the native res is 720p w/ upscaling option to 1080p) Wii = 480p via component (best res on the Wii) HTPC = DVI to HDMI Sat = 480i, dont care to pay the extra $ for HD tv right now. angryht 06-19-08, 10:55 AM Not sure what you mean by how close is the sweet spot to the screen unless u mean the PJ, it will be about 15.5 feet away, i will be using.....The sweet spot is the place where you sit. stub 06-19-08, 10:57 AM about 12-13 feet from screen. angryht 06-19-08, 11:25 AM That is a pretty large viewing angle. I would be a little concerned about being able to see pixels. Projector central (projector calculator) recommends minimum of 14 ft away for 136", so it's probably not too bad. angryht 06-19-08, 11:26 AM What will you use it for mostly....gaming, dvd, htpc? stub 06-19-08, 11:30 AM mostly for all 3, dvd, & gaming on various systems, i can probably get away with being a little further back though. basically i just wanted to make sure the matte white/fiber glass & 1.0x gain is fine with this PJ. thx for all your input thus far. angryht 06-19-08, 11:40 AM I think it would be just fine. Do you have a different PJ now with the 120" screen? stub 06-19-08, 11:49 AM I just sold the Viewsonic PJ556D i bought three weeks ago, i needed more inputs on the back and with a dvd upconverter you have to use the HDMI output, this model only has a HD15 input on it so as you can see its not going to work. As good as this PJ looks its still a business class PJ, the HD65 is going to look a lot nicer. I'll have one ordered by Sunday i think. I'll prob use the screen i have for awhile, dont think i can make a 136" work w/o moving my reg entertainment center out, i need a bigger room!!! :) angryht 06-19-08, 12:05 PM I hear ya. I've had a Benq PB6200 (B for business) for about 4 years now. I am real happy with mine because I've spent a lot of time calibrating it. I learned alot from the experience, too. I am also itching to upgrade due to the lack of hdmi. And I know what you mean by needing a bigger room. My little basement theater is only about 9.5' x 13.5'! I am looking at this screen as well. Any experience here with this screen? SoonerDoc 08-14-08, 10:36 AM Any help appreciated. Pretty new to front projectors, but have done a lot of reading. Have a 24' x 16' dedicated theater with complete control of lighting. Theater guy ordered me a 119" Draper Clarion M1300 screen that I am pairing with the JVC RS2 projector. Two rows of seats one at ~13 feet, second on 12" riser at 17.5 feet. Anyone see a problem with this? THANKS bhadsell 08-15-08, 05:38 PM SoonerDoc, The screen size really depends on where you will be sitting, not the throw distance of the projector or the size of the space available for a screen. We like to consider the Primary Seat, the Money Spot (where the guy who pays for the theatre is going to sit) as the starting point. If you will be doing most of your viewing from the front row, you can start your calculations there. A 13' viewing distance would suggest a 92" diagonal screen. The 119" screen is the right size for the back row, but may be a little large for the front row - there will be a lot of eye movement and head movement to catch the action on the screen (think of watching a two hour ping pong match). You might consider a 106" screen as a compromise between the two. Bob Hadsell askeppy 08-25-08, 09:09 AM I have a choice between 1: the Draper access v series with the high def grey screen or 2: steward 'Luxus Model A ElectriScreen' Electric Retractable Projection Screen in the HDTV (1.78:1) Format, (16:9 Aspect Ratio) 100' diagonal (49" x 87" viewing area) with the new Stewart 'StudioTek 130 G3' Viewing Surface or the Stewart 'FireHawk G3' either close in price? I sit 12 feet away and although the room can be 100% dark, there is usually some light in the room thanks for any help. CaRaBeeN 08-26-08, 03:31 AM It's nice to see some Draper employees here. Billdemart 12-17-08, 08:17 PM My theater consists of a ceiling mounted JVC SX21 w/panamorph lens and a Draper Clarion 16x9 106" w/M1300 and velvet border. Is it significant? thanks michael I'd love to know this as well. Was going to order one of these tomorrow to pair with the HD65. Kilroy 06-09-09, 11:54 PM I'm having a tough time deciding between a 16x9 106" or a 1.85:1 99" Draper screen. Putting aside the screen size difference for the moment, can anyone help me sort out the pros and cons of each screen's aspect ratio? The primary intended use is movies, with HDTV use secondary. This makes me think that 1.85:1 may be the best pick. Which is less obnoxious visually - projecting 1.85:1 images onto a 16x9 screen or projecting 16x9 images onto a 1.85:1 screen? Also, if a 1.85:1 DVD is "anamorphic widescreen," does that mean it will project just fine on a 16x9 screen? Thanks for any guidance. audiodane 08-08-09, 10:34 AM Anybody have any experience (positive, negative) with the Draper Diplomat tripod projector screen? Draper Diplomat Portable Screen (http://www.draperinc.com/ProjectionScreens/ScreensProducts.asp?detail=151#) I have an opportunity to pick one of this up for around $60 and I'm trying to gauge how good a screen this is for that price. The one available to me isn't new, but is in decent condition (I'm told).. I'll be going to look at it in a couple weeks when visiting family, and if all looks good I'll take it home with me (shipping would be crazy since it's such a long tube) I have been looking for something portable, convenient, and quick. Would prefer acoustical transparent material, but those are just WWAAYY too expensive (even on eBay), and the AT screens I have found aren't very portable (tripod, etc). Looked into DIY, but for the large format I'd like (>100" diag), a collapsible frame would be about $50-70 by itself (interlocking aluminum), which is what I can get this portable tripod screen for.. Anyway, I'm interested in hearing what other people think about this screen? Good bang for the (very low) buck? Looking for honest feedback (good and bad).. FWIW, the screen available to me is matte white, which from what I've read is probably a good choice for us since we have a very wide viewing area (family room, tripod setup along the long wall).. thanks! ..dane audiodane 08-24-09, 02:23 PM Got it over the weekend.
