View Full Version : So, post your 360 screenshots and tv u r using
longhorns 02-21-07, 05:17 PM if you have a USB drive, save the picture on it, plug it in via the usb port on the 360, and when you find the picture, in the bottom left of the screen it will say the x button applies as the wallpaper, just do that. but you can only have 1 picture for ALL of your dashboard :/ which kind of sucks. BTW that's the easiest way unless you have your 360 hooked up to your home network, in which case it's the same, find the picture and click x.

Basically Energy RC-30's powered by a Denon on the sides of the 50" Sony set. Rears not shown, but little Energy speakers on stands. HSU VF-MK2 will be coming soon :) You can make out the 360 on the left, HD DirecTV below, PS3 and Denon receiver on the right. Cube sits in the closet until I play it which is rare these days.

cocoasprinkles 02-23-07, 11:23 AM Just went through all the pages after 2 or three days, now i want a 360. :(
Get One Soon..............
bxbadboy90 02-23-07, 10:44 PM im planning on getting a 360 also but idk if i should get it at bestbuy for retail or costco $475. If I get it from costco im goin to have to save up more money. Any suggestions?
FiveMillionWays 02-24-07, 01:27 AM Get it from Wal-mart. I don't know why it would cost you that much considering the price of it is 399.00 every place else!
bxbadboy90 02-24-07, 01:42 AM the reason it cost more at costo is because it comes with an extra controller and the playncharge kit wit a game.
Short-lived maybe, but garbage? Definitely not. I still have fond memories of the first time I booted up NFL 2K and Soul Calibur.
To each his own, but I would argue the first year's worth of games on the DC were much better than the first year of PS2.
yep
nfl 2k is still pretty much the best football video game imo
marvincbr 02-24-07, 04:21 PM the reason it cost more at costo is because it comes with an extra controller and the playncharge kit wit a game.

formulanerd 02-25-07, 03:02 AM i think the original soul caliber is probably my all time favorite fighter.
actually now that i think about it, i've played fighters since, but i havent really played a fighter since... if that makes sense.
killer instinct was a favorite, and tekken/doa have alway been decent, but none really have that feel.

They changed it. 30 days now.
IIRC, and from what I've read here (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=651373&page=112&pp=30) it's 90 day return
bxbadboy90 02-25-07, 06:03 PM since costco changed their return policy i will probably get my xbox 360 at Best Buy or Target. Which store has the better extended warranty.

No, but I'll sell it to you for the low low price of $19.99. It fits a Tivo perfectly. Man, that setup sucked. It's a wonder my wife ever let it go as long as it did. Looking back, I can't believe I ever had people over with it looking like that. Ugh.
And thanks for the compliments. It's not a dedicated theater, but it does blend in well with the rest of the house and conforms to the WAF standards.
We had looked at buying a big EC like that, but they were in the $3000 range. So I decided to build my own, and it ended up costing around $1600 to build. It's about 10 feet wide, so I had to buy a 10' piece of oak plywood for the top (where the TV sits). A 10' piece of oak plywood will run you about $175, as opposed to the $65 8' pieces. I was pretty nervous about making that cut.
It came out nice though, and I'm really happy with it.

One question though... with all your components stacked on top of each other, are those two little cooling fans enough? I would be thinking more of air conditioned air going in there to cool them as they are...
mproper,
You 360 will die being in that tiny little spot. I see so many people having there 360s like that and then flame when they die. Hmmm. Wonder why? Heat cant escape.

i'm sure the fans help, but those little 80mm's are loud and dont push enough air.
i'd put like 4 120mm or 210mm fans

Thanks for the concerns. However, I have been keeping a tight eye on the heat in the cabinet, and it's been fine. I did have concerns when I added the 360 (because it's notoriously hot), so kept an even tighter eye on it for awhile, and the temp in the cabinet stays at or near room temp.
It's not readily apparent from the photos, but if you look closely at the top of the sides of the cabinet, you'll see that it's open to the adjoining cabinets on either side, so it's not really a closed-in space. Also, behind the components is a big hole cut into the plywood to release more of the hot air (you can sortof see this in the one construction photo, but it's not readily apparent). The fans are near the top of the cabinet and blow the air out. Cool/room temperature air is pulled in from the hole/adjoining cabinets/spaces around the doors.
Also, while the fans aren't the quietest on the market (I just ripped them out of an old PC and hooked them up to a compatible AC adapter), I mounted them with felt spacers, and they are barely audible with the doors closed. You have to listen closely to hear them from the listening position. Once the TV is on, they are unnoticeable. And frankly, once the XBOX fires up...well, you know that thing is about the loudest thing ever (Honestly, I don't know anyone can stand the thing if it's just sitting out in the open).
I may replace them with bigger fans if it looks like it's becoming a problem though, but for now, as I said, the cabinet temperature stays at or near room temperature. I keep my house at 72 degrees, and the highest I've seen the cabinet temperature was 76.5 degrees, which was after an extremely long gaming session with the XBOX running. I believe that is a reasonable temperature (please correct me if I'm wrong though).
Also, in retrospect, I wish I would've made the entire thing about 6-8 inches deeper for cleaner wiring. I didn't have anywhere to set the hugemungous XBOX brick other than on top of the components. Ugh.
Cyborg6971 03-07-07, 11:38 PM I like the new paint on the walls to proper looks great, gives it a pop effect that the old set up didn't have.

Would your wiring and access holes allow you to put the brick outside of the cabinet and just run the power cord inside to the Xbox? That's what I did, and since the brick is one of the biggest sources of heat, this helps keep the temp down inside my cabinet.
Alas, I too was forced to enclose my 360 because of the noise. It was extremely distracting, especially when watching DVDs.
BTW, awesome job on the center. I wish I had your carpentry skills. It would've saved me about $1000...

I should try that. It might actually work. At the very least, I might be able to move it to one of the ajacent cabinets (they're currently empty but I am building a shelving system to hold games/dvds in those empty ones.
Hedonist 03-08-07, 11:10 AM ...frankly, once the XBOX fires up...well, you know that thing is about the loudest thing ever (Honestly, I don't know anyone can stand the thing if it's just sitting out in the open).
One word for you props....Volume.
Mine 360 sits in the open and I honestly can't hear it when I'm playing. It's either due to the volume of my receiver or to the fact that I'm concentrating so hard on trying to kill Holy that I can't hear anything else. :D

I know, I have to save for them. I may do some DIY stands. Mye and Sound Anchors cost almost as much as the surrounds I have.

Its an HD70 with a dark flat grey DIY screen. the contrast is great but at night i need a lighter grey screen. As you can tell light control is not one of my concerns at the moment.

I used a couple of Vibrapods under the little swinging stand to raise them up to almost level. Cheap fix that works just fine. The stands are ridiculously priced!

PatrickB101 03-12-07, 05:14 PM One word for you props....Volume.
Mine 360 sits in the open and I honestly can't hear it when I'm playing. It's either due to the volume of my receiver or to the fact that I'm concentrating so hard on trying to kill Holy that I can't hear anything else. :D

assasyn 03-26-07, 11:09 PM Can you post some shots from the original angle pre-remodel?
The Outlaw Torn 03-26-07, 11:25 PM Tapiozona, that is insane. Its crazy the time and money spent on stuff like this. But in the end you can see its worth it if its done right.
Tapiozona 03-27-07, 12:49 PM Thanks for the good words all.
Ill take some more pictures from further away tonight or tomorrow. Cost wise, it really wasn't a huge stretch to build the theater. Minus electronics and furniture, I spent maybe..$1000-$1500 on materials to build the room (Probably on the lower end of that range).
Time wise though..probably about 3-4 months in all. It was a bit overwhelming at times, especially once the major construction jobs were done and I had to work on the details (i.e. @$%#&*! molding). Sometimes it seemed like id work day after day and it'd look exactly the same.
The sad part is, one of the biggest reasons I did all this...
Was for Halo 3.
Long live the geek in me.
gamegod2x 03-27-07, 01:47 PM definitly let us know when you have more pictures, very intrested on how it was built etc.
Shizelbs 03-27-07, 02:21 PM tapiozona, GREAT work. Gorgeous.
Question. What size room did you convert?
tapiozona I can't see any of the pics sadly (just the little red X's on white squares)
Do you have a link I could follow to view the HT?
Cheers
Calvin
Tapiozona 03-27-07, 06:08 PM Not sure why you'd be getting x's. Yesterday I had that problem as the site hosting my photos wen't down for a bit but it seems to be working fine now. Try refreshing and giving the page a few seconds to load completely before scrolling down..The page i host them on seems to be delicate in a weird sort of way.
I have a construction thread for my theater here on the avs forum..here's the link to it. Has more detail and photos of the construction process (which compared to most of the awesome theaters on that board could hardly be called construction).
It's a bit outdated and ill be adding updates to it shortly..probably after I get the large curtain to cover the room opening..

There's the thread.
longhorns 03-27-07, 06:57 PM Well then, why don't you download the little halo 3 and halo wars trailers and show us how good it looks? lol

Does that have a glossy screen? And does it allow for zero overscan on 1080i and p?
I'm thinking about picking one up in a couple of months.
Oh... one more question my 4051d samsung likes to crush blacks, how bad is it on this sammy?
savage1005 03-30-07, 03:16 AM it does have a pretty glossy screen. i don't notice any glare when the set is on though unless i am viewing off-angle when its really light outside.
it has 1:1 1080p pixel mapping for vga and hdmi, but does overscan around 2% of the picture over component .
as for crushing blacks, i am pretty sure this set doesn't do it. i am no expert. others on the owners thread said that they noticed no black crushing though.

Just parts of her portable play yard. So far she has no interest in getting behind it and best of all the remotes work right through. Once she goes to sleep we can move it out of the way and have a normal looking living room.

Shizelbs 04-02-07, 06:51 PM Yeah, I'm calling BS on that too!
^^^^ The colors are waaaay off though. The chiefs suit on my tv is slightly green which is what it is supposed to be-yours almost looks white. Check your settings you may have the color too low.-Of course if that is really coming from a tv.
longhorns 04-02-07, 07:57 PM I believe it's real. And btw, it would be awesome if chiefs suit was that color.

Yes, the ventiltation is proper. There was a back panel to the center console. It just took it off. The AVR and DVD player don't get all that warm, but I generally crack open the doors and leave them open when I am using them.
I keep the 360 in the left tower. Now that I HAVE to keep open or it gets hot in there and the 360 fan spins like crazy.

No problem Scott, and congrats on your new purchase! What's funny is I made NO adjustments after switching from component to VGA! Literally 5 minutes after the first time my TV was powered on I did Eliab's recommended settings and that's it! I have made no further tweaks or changes.
I have also made no changes to overscan.
BigJeff 04-06-07, 07:49 PM Does anyone recognize what the 360 is sitting on?
Laser Disc player?
Sofa King Tired 04-07-07, 10:39 AM Laser Disc player?
Well... yes, but it is a Pioneer Laser Active Player (CLD-A100). Not only plays laser disc movies but also has an expansion slot where you can slide in either a Sega Genesis/CD pack or a NEC TurboDuo pack. With the appropriate pack it will play Sega and NEC games on 12" laser discs, Sega Genesis carts, Sega CD's, Turbografx Hu cards and Turbografx CD's. There is also a karaoke pack if you're in to that sort of thing.
I only have the Sega pack.

Mind pointing me to this post? I did a quick search for 'eliab recommended' and couldn't find much.
Much appreciated!

Like night and day. Certain games it makes the game. Like shooters for realistic effects. Scary games, like Condemned, the sound is incredible, it will freak you out in surround sound. I would never watch a movie without the surround sound, makes all the difference in the world.

I don't think anyon would deny the impact in movies. It makes you feel like you are in the movie. You movies with the sound correctly encoded you can follow things around the room as they move around the screen.
Games - I can tell you in COD2 I prefer to play on live instead of split screen because of the surround sound. This is because the sound actually helps you locate your opponents. If they are not crotching while moving you can hear them move and in the direction they are from you. It also helps locate where the shooting is actually coming from. This helps you move from window to window if you are in a good sniper spot to locate the prey, and keeps them from sneaking up on you!

No a 5.1 system with 2 standing speakers out of the 5
so 2 standing speakers to go next to my tv
then 2 non standing one's mounted on the walls and then the sub by the tv.

in the thread he said 3 white LEDs, but plans on adding a cold cathode to showcase the 360 better.
fahrenheit 04-24-07, 07:59 AM Yip, I added a cold cathode at the top front to shine down the front of the glass.
I've also cut out most of the center of the alluminium shelf which is vital to keeping the bottom of the console cool and helps the console draw in air.

That's a Magnavox 42MF521D/37 (42" LCD). To the right is my 360. In front of that is my Wii. On the shelf (which appears to be "sagging" in the picture, but it's not) is a Yamaha HTR-5930 A/V receiver, Toshiba HD-A2 HD DVD player and DirecTV R15-300 DVR (I'll be upgrading to the HR-20 HD DVR soon).

I think it is now a discontinued model (last time I looked for it) , sorry :( . It was the shortest and longest stand that I could find after searching about 10 different local retailers and they had it on close out when I purchased it (it was the last one) .
Maybe not discontinued as it still appears on a website here : http://www.imagesfurniture.com/Webpages/ProductInfo.asp?description=60inch&model=BX-6010
I have removed the glass doors (for better air flow) and recently removed the middle drawer due to the addition of a second 360 .

TRALFAZ 04-26-07, 05:10 PM WOW... That DLP looks great :)
zero002021 04-26-07, 05:24 PM Ditto!! The wall color is kinda gay but clean and sweet my friend. Is the sofa custom made?
Yeah, the sofa is 150" wide, custom made. Seats 6+ people comfortably. I ordered it online from FoamOrder.com.
As for the room color, I'm not a fan either. I would love to paint the ceiling black and the walls dark red/maroon. It'll definitely happen some day, but first I need to upgrade my audio equipment. :p
