I use VGA instead oc component

I find it makes the image better

The Sony IS an HDTV. If you meant to ask whether I'm planning to upgrade to a flat panel display, then the answer is no. I have no plans on replacing my current set with a flat panel until black levels on LCDs improve or something better comes out (SED, OLED). Black levels have been getting much better on LCDs lately, so maybe next year if I'm impressed with how the sets look I'll upgrade to a 40" LCD. Until then, I'm happy with my Sony KV-36HS420.

So I spent a good 2.5 hours gaming tonight. First I played Castlevania:SOTN, then Gears of War, and finished off with Crackdown. I can now say that HDMI most definitely looks better than VGA. Colors are more defined and deep, yet clearer, compared to the more washed out look with VGA. The picture itself is noticeably sharper, especially in the details. Floors, edges, textures, and text have more detail than I've seen before. I am someone who scrutinizes graphics and likes to notice the "little things", and I can most definitely tell the difference. Even my wife commented on the Red Omen (the skull you see when you die in GOW) being much more of a deep red color than before. The edge detail is noticeable in Crackdown as well. Anyone who has played this game knows your character model is "cell-shaded" and has a black border surrounding the player. The character model looks much better w/HDMI, with more detail all around.

Overall the graphics look cleaner and clearer. It's like cleaning a dirty window and being able to see clearly through it now. I am pleasantly surprised by the difference, especially since I was not expected a huge change from VGA, which already looked excellent!

Does anyone know how the picture quality of the Samsung HL-S5687W DLP (Viper's TV) compares to the newer Samsung LCD's?

Nobody should be making purchase choices based upon screen-shots . I give Viper credit , he posts some of the better screen-shots , but people need to consider how many variables come into play when taking and posting screen shots . This is not a knock at any displays either just some friendly advice ;) .

** Oh and I am not trying to downplay how cool & fun it is to look at screenshots , I am just as guilty as most when it comes to clicking on the screenshot threads :D . **

I don't remember the exact model numbers but they are in my thread. I also perferred the 46" Sammy LCD over the new Sharp Aquos which I looked at buying at the same time.

Only turn off is the viewing angle, but I think I can live with it.

I think he meant that it is a myth that if you get a Plasma you will get burn in. You can prevent most of it if you do proper break in, etc. And that most people scream burn in when in fact it is just IR that can be eliminated.

I agree, I have a plasma and it works great. You do get IR(image retention), which would scare most away who do not understand it correctly, but the benefits of the tv (color, contrast, black levels) far exceed the burn-in issue.

What you describe is image retention, which again it is easy to correct if it does happen but even easier to simply avoid ever seeing in the first place. That is not to be confused with the burn-in that can trash a CRT.

OH GOD, here's a hint never ever ever ever use wikipedia as a source of factual information. ANYBODY who has a computer and internet connection can post whatever information on that site as they see fit.

Wikipedia is great for finding information when used properly. You just have to be carful to check the validity of it's sources, which in this case is sorely lacking.

Everything looks purple to me. I posted some settings for my Samsung 4051 in the LCD forum thread that you also posted in. Try those and see what you think.

The bass is really good. It's nice,tight and loud. I actually dialed it down a bit because it can be very loud. Thanks for the compliments guys!

How did you get rid of your wires?

The wires are tucked away under the baseboard. I'm glad I was able to do that. Makes it a lot cleaner looking.

I hooked up the xbox in the rack downstairs and tried it out on the living room HT and it works well (just as I hoped through the floor with the RF controllers :))

Surprisingly I work 250 to 300 hours a month, travel a lot, and lately I've been moving and working on the new house with that occupying most of my time getting the 3 HT's up and running. I haven't played my 360 very much at all in the last 3 months I think I cracked the 40k gamerscore end of Dec 06.
:) I do like to unwind and play a couple hours a night on the weekend I'm home though.

No pictures of my setup (Should be getting new speakers + receiver tomorrow so I'll post pictures then with the wires and everything all setup. Plus I had flood damage, so alot of trim is missing and stuff).

I do have this picture, though, which I had my friend believing was a real photograph. He even owns the game in question. The TV is a 37'' Olevia 237v.

The bass is great especially in my little room.

I have the Z-5500 in my living room for now until I go "all-in" again and purchase a receiver and all new speakers. The bass is quite good. I'll have to take some new pics to show how it's set up.

Wow, what a huge improvement, blacks blacker, colours brighter, better contrast... It just made a great picture even greater...

I didn't read up on the update. So VGA has been fixed...I haven't tried it before. Can someone who owns a Sony a2000 and has VGA tell me (or post pics) of how it is. I can't get 1080p through component on my set and don't want to buy the elite...

the vga on the a2000 doesn't send 1080p to the TV, its only for a pc input and the max resolution makes the a2000 have black bars on either side.. sucks i know...

By the way Forza 2 is pretty good, I think it will be better online and Area 51's graphics are very hot but I think my finger is going to fall off after I compete the full version. Anyone else feel that way?. The demo is definitely a teaser tease, I was about to hide from that big monster that came out at the end. haha.

i honestly expected it to be in japanese as well. i do know that there are quite a few japanese people (younger crowd, including gamers) that "love" the english language, like they'll wear a t-shirt that says "ketchup" just because it's an english word (even if they dont understand it)

i'm not sure about japan, but i know a few countries in europe teach many years of english in their schools, so it's slowly becoming a "universal language" IMO.

i just read someone from japan said all the menus and text is in japanese, so it depends on what system you're on or what language your system defaults to.

i just changed my language to japanese, and the in game voices are still in english, it must be NTSC-J dependent, and since i'm on an NTSC box, i wont get the japanese languages.

Yea the picture looks great and sharp when the picture is paused but when you watch sports or anything fast moving on a Sharp Aquios all you see is pixelating. Horrible tv all around, sorry.

yea but they offer 1 year warranty if the tv falls or anthing happens they replace the plasma and i didnt want to take the chance with my Pioneer 5070 that cost, well you know wat it costs. So wats another $600.

hey guys been lurking here for a while, have to say great thread! love the pics! they are amazing!

Que: how do you all take screen shots with your digicam of your vid games? i mean i know how to set the cam up and everything but how do you pause your 360's and get such clear shots? i usually use the in-game pause on the controller but the screen dims and says 'pause' on it? how do you all avoid this? I want to take some pics of my system also

Que: how do you all take screen shots with your digicam of your vid games? i mean i know how to set the cam up and everything but how do you pause your 360's and get such clear shots? i usually use the in-game pause on the controller but the screen dims and says 'pause' on it? how do you all avoid this? I want to take some pics of my system also

hey guy. Thanks for the advice, Great shot handheld! my hands arent that steady :rolleyes:

my suggestions for getting a good shot are: setting your point and shoot camera up from at least the distance you view tv from or farther is better. put your camera on any flat surface (bookcase, chair, table) zoom in and fill as much of the screen with your tv/display. set your mode to distance or landscape that way focus will be on farthest point from the camera. set the timer on your camera to 10 or 5sec delay. press the shutter button step back wait for the countdown and boom. camera takes the shot and its perfectly steady. optional: if you can overexpose the shot by 1/3 if the camera allows manual setting of exposure. I find this helps bring out shadow detail but can blow the white areas up too much.

thanks for the suggestion on the "B" button on the controller. I have tried this but my screens always show the 'pause' warning. is this game dependent or are their options on the 360 to shut this off?

jeez, there sure is lot more detail in the halo3 pics. the 360 puts out an amazing amount of detail. i know its HD but even on my low resolution 800x600 projector, games look so much more detailed. I didnt think my low resolution projector would work so well with hidef games. once i get the pause thing out of the way i'll try to post some pics.

I agree, often times i would have to use the search engine to find the thread because it would go too far back. IMO if CommanderCool or anyone else wants to post pics of their games, go on ahead, it's what the thread's for. He's not stealing anyones opportunities, he's actually giving people more reason to take out the camera and show us what they have. Thanks for the efforts Commander

I hear ya. The wife approval factor is a big one. Another piece of A/V furniture can sometimes set them off. ;)

As for the 360, with it's fans venting through the back, I think the flow of fresh air is coming in from the sides (which make it more difficult to get air when it's in the vertical position, since the preferations are on the top and bottom with that configuration). I was just thinking of the radiant heat (not exhaust heat) from that A/V receiver, those things get pretty hot (especially with something sitting on top of it) and could warm some of the air trying to enter and cool your 360.
As long as it's your money your spending why does your wife matter??? Then again I wouldn't marry a chick that would be all "OMG, t3h entertainment center is black and not mapl3!!!!" No, i'm not married, only 22 :P

hello i'm new here and thought i would get into this picture thing. here is my set up it is kind of messy right now. i keep my 360 stuff orginised in this cabinet in pick #2. labeled well so i can find the accesories i need fast. Pick #3 got this at an eb and it is my gaming centerpiece. the wife keeps asking when i'm gonna trash it. i reply never i mean it's gears of war and it cool looking.

here are my 360 games. and 2 picks of the forza 2 demo on my vizio 42 inch hd tv. i have the wirless wheel and the force feedback rocks. it is way better than the pgr2 force upgrade. i can not wait untill forza comes out on the 30th.

What is the best way to get screenshots and resize them for posting? I just ran these through a generic photo resizer.

Tv is a Sony 42A10 LCD using the VGA connection and camera is a Casio Exilim EX-Z750 using tripod, no flash and using the timer. There was a little light coming through the blinds when I took these.

My gamerscore is at 16,465. I have most of the xbla games to. pretty low of a score. I'm ok at games. I have beaten quite a few but don't usually fight for the 1000 achievements in many games.

You got me on that one! Now I see why people are having a fit with the demo. I thought it was Forza 2! Ive never played Forza myself. Forza 2 demo was my first time. Im sure the graphics will be more polished up and what not. But still. Not a huge jump at all in terms of graphics. Just more "cleaner" looking.

I think Forza 1 has better environmental textures

yea but forza 2 will be better in the long run over 300 pluss cars. probably an even better paint and create a car mode. true force feedback wheel support. an amazing damage model which is not in the demo. your playing the arcade mode there it only has cosmetic damage. plus the online modes are going to be sick. being able to auction off you car you spent hours creating and usin in the game. hey you may tire of it and sell it off for a few hundred g's. when i play the demo with the wireless wheel i use the hood view which i didn't use in forza 1 because i needed to see how the car was handling. now i can really feel it. the tires slipping the bumps in the road etc. i used to have gran tarismo 4 and the logitech force feedback pro 900% wheel. this is about as close to that experience your gonna get. finally the 360 has force feedback. i always was diapointed that xbox was unable to do it. well not anymor im in heaven. only thing in the demo with the wheel is that there is no analog for the brake but it will be in the game. i'll have settings for everything.

3.2meg pixel is plenty enough to get way past 1920x1080.. Just stay steady and turn the flash off.. That's the size I use and the pics come out great..

Ok, here's some of me and my setup. I have a mitsubishi hd1000 and a huge screen.

Thats a nice setup. A tinted glass door might look nice in front of those components.....

I have pondered putting some glass there, I'm concerned about heat though. Basically all of my components seem to run much hotter than others especially the receiver.

I got the same speaker set as you, good choice man!

I actually called Onkyo because I wanted to order another rear speaker to make this a full 7.1 system. 119 dollars for 1 additional speaker!!!!!

wow, that's rediculous for the one of these, especially since the whole system can be had for ~$300-350.

3.2meg pixel is plenty enough to get way past 1920x1080.. Just stay steady and turn the flash off.. That's the size I use and the pics come out great..
