Yes it is 720p. I sit 10ft away so 1080p is not gonna look any better. I had a 65 mits 1080p before, and this tv looks alot better. Black level and contrast are far more important then resolution, when you sit 10ft away with a 50 inch panel.

Awesome setup Parasite!!! Just a few ?s for you. In your picture of the fallout soldier, the tower in the center of the screen (in the background) is washed out with light. Is that just the picture or is that a good representation of what it looks like? Also, do you think your black levels improved at all after the isf calibration? Thanks again

I had to use exposure compensation on my camera, to get enough light for the picture. Unfortunately exposure compensation sometimes allows to much light, and you get that wierd affect. I have a crappy camera so I have to make due with it.
As far as black level improving, I would say not really the overall black level, but the gamma and shadow detail all the way to 0ire really improved. The colors also made a dramatic change for the better once the tv was tracking greyscale at 6500k. I really would like to know how I could take high res photos with my camera and then shrink the size of the actual picture to show better quality. Anyone know?

None whatsoever, this tv is like bullet proof when it comes to burn in. Is has a orbiter feature that will prevent it but, I even turned that off and watched a letterbox movie. When I turned the movie off and checked on a all white screen, there was not a hint of IR. If you go to the owners thread you will just rinse and repeat what I told you.

I have two hd tvs and one sd tv and multiple consoles and games so I can play with my friends in multi screen. I hate split screen. You can't sneak, snipe, or choose anything without everyone else seeing it. Plus I am greedy and don' want to share my screen. It sucks buying multiple copies of games. I used to just buy one game and load it on modded xboxs. But now we are playing online more and can't use modded xboxes. I generally buy used games or on sale. Non split screen gaming is a blast. We enjoyed campain story mode co op in doom3 and serious sam 2. Now we are co op in gow, the outfit, graw2, and racing. The winner gets the big screen. So battles are hard fought. I just wish I hadn't sold off a bunch of old games to my neighbors kids for super cheap.

Hey PARASITE, loving the pics...keep em coming!

I have a small favor to ask...I am thinking hard about getting your set (the 5080). The only thing holding me back is the glare factor....I've never owned a plasma before and am a little worried about how it might look in a well-lit room such as yours. You seem to really like your set, and I'm sure its for good reason...so I was wondering if you could comment on the glare you're seeing in the daytime (if any). I can see from your shot here that there is a little bit of reflection going on, so what would really be awesome is if you could take another shot like this one, only with the tv on. I certainly don't mean to inundate you with requests but if this is possible, it would be much appreciated!!!

PARASITE

Thanks for the comments.
I do have a large window left of the tv, and use curtains to control the light. I can watch the tv in the daytime without noticing any glare, unless the window is got the curtain wide open, and then its really not that bad. Tonight when my wife and son go to bed I will work on some more shots. Anyone want to see any blu-ray, ps3 shots?

Some displays will pixel map a non native resolution , and while it might not be 1:1 with the displays native rez it is still pixel mapped ;) . This is probably what Viper is doing (just a guess) .

indeed

it also does "aspect" mode which fills the entire 1650 pixels of the screen but letterboxes it so it's not stretched vertically.....
I don't like that mode as much though

I use a 67" Samsung HLS6767 DLP and a 61" HLT6187 LED slim dlp for 360 but i'm looking for a 42" flat LCD that does 1080p over component and VGA (in addition to hdmi that they all do)

any recommendations. what all flat 42" lcds can do this. i'm not a big LG fan but seems the LG 42LB5D can do 1080p over component and VGA but its a little expensive at 2k.

I know you can get a good 1080p lcd now for under 2k.

what others are there besides that LG that can. I imagine the samsung flat lcds can as the dlps do 1080p over component and vga but they are like one of the only ones that do at least over component.

already hve 4 samsungs so dont really want a samsung lcd but it may be one of the only ones besides that LG that does 1080p over component and VGA.

Ahahahaha, yes it's reallllly bad back there. The biggest culprit is a 16 foot component cable that just wraps around and around and around with no where to go because I gave away my extra components to a friend and am too lazy to go buy the 4 foot cable I need.

One of these days i'll get around to straightening out that mess, I know it must make some of you AVS guys cringe :D

yes it's a monitor... to be specific it's a 2005fpw

I'm running in 1280x768 and using 1:1 pixel mapping(for some reason I can't use 1280x720 or it makes the image look horrible)

Hi Viper98,

Do you think Planet Earth is the best HD material I can get to show my stuff?

it's certainly up there

the problem is night/dark scenes don't look so hot and suffer from a lot of grain

but the day/light shots are absolutely remarkable

overall I'd say the day/light shots are teh best you can get on HD format(that i've seen)

but the dark/night shots bring the overall quality down

however I would definately say this, King Kong, Crank(BD), Happy Feet, Ice Age 2(BD) or Ultraviolet are the way to go

again, just from what I've seen so far

the animations do like amazin in 1080p, especially pixar stuff and especially on samsung dlp.

I'd add Over The Hedge (bluray i think, but i viewed the 1080p wmvhd) to the list. Even Monster House.

Happy Feet wasnt' bad. Looking forward to Ice Age 2.

I want to get some imax stuff like Coral Reef Adventure. its right up there with planet earth though PE is newer and prob somewhat better.

people stop quoting huge list of pictures makes annoyingly hard to read. it would also be nice if the same person didnt post a million pics of the same set. posting picture to convience someone to buy a hd set or hd-dvd should maybe be atleast be a HD picture. the HD-DVD (planet earth) pics above looks like ED to me. why cause its not even close to a HD rez.

I totally agree, how stupid can you be to come in here not expecting to see page after page of pictures and setups. Everyone's setups are different and on different budgets. Patrick, the only thing needing cleaned up is your comments, if you don't want to see pictures then dont come in a screenshots thread! only thing i said clean up is where X user post 5-6 shots in a row then someone quotes him without taking x-user pictures out so you get 6 post of the exact same pictures. maybe your intelligence didn't comprehend it the first time.

So what does that have to do with anything you said?

Example: Viper post some HD-DVD planet earth pics and then someone quotes him and in that persons quote are those same exact 5-6 pictures. its very distracting and cluttering.

I could very well see someone quoting a person that post a planet earth pic and editing all pics but one and say "this picture is nice or what insect is that?" But just to ask, "Do you think Planet Earth is the best source material?".

To the person that did it . No big deal but it just distracting and I was just asking someone to go through and fix it so i could enjoy looking at people setups easier.

To clarify... The issue is not someone posting screen shots to show off there TV, although I think seeing people's set-ups is cooler because I'm pretty sure most everyone here knows what 360 games look like in HD. It's coming to the thread to see what's new and having to load a couple dozen pics just to find out it's the same persons showing you "This is Madden on my TV", "This is Forza on the same TV" the next day "Hey... I just picked up Viva Piñata, take a look at it on my same TV." At least show us some pics of your backyard or something, show us whats in your fridge. :) I have 10 TVs in my house, do you really want to see how every game I own looks on all of them.

No offense...

Its just this is a good place to come to check out stuff when @ work (behind the "Great Game Firewall" here).

But lately people have been complaining about some of the CRAZIEST things. Loud tray ejects, too many pics in the screenshot thread, etc.

Anyone playing on the new Sony KDS A3000 sets? I just saw these and they are amazing. I want to see some pics.

I have the Sony 42a10 and I'm not sure if they'll be a big difference upgrading to the 50" a2020 SXRD set. I know it has 1080p, but will I see a big difference PQ wise?

Also, I sit 7 feet back from the tv, but I want a 50" SXRD, will I see horrible SSE or SDE?

They have them listed at Vanns.com as coming soon. Have you seen anyone actually selling them yet ?? I was thinking about a 60 inch 2020 but maybe one of these might be better. :)

Is that the Pio 917 receiver?

No it is the Pio VSX-816:(, you have a good eye though. I'm waiting until 2008 or 2009 before I up grade. This was my first surround sound receiver I've ever owned and am now hooked. I have been saving $$$ all year long to buy a awesome speaker package. In a month I should have enought (1k) to get a pretty decent 5.1 or 7.1 system.

Here is a new picture w/ my new 360 Elite:D. Had to replace the 360 Pro after it went up in smoke:eek:! (thankfully I had a 1yr warranty w/ Gamestop and was able to upgrade. The DVD PQ is so much better via HDMI:) on this Sony KD-34XBR970 than w/ component!) I also have gotten rid of the indoor antenna, made my own outdoor antenna!

Hey, how did you convince Gamestop to let you upgrade??? I was just there yesterday and they told me the warranty is only good on the 20GB premiums (so I had to settle for an HDMI premi). Should I just go up there and give em hell or what?;)

nice work.

just to nitpick your sweet lakeside deck setup since your showing off. It seems a little anti social withjust one lounge chair. you should have at least 2 chairs for multiplayer games.

And yeah you need a sound system, even that white pioneer 5.1 or whatever system made for 360 would be sweet. could put the front right and left speakers in in the plants on either side of tv which btw are a nice touch. even for the rear right and left surrounds just on the ground on either side of chair with wire running along the rug would be fine but for a quick setup and have to take down probably at night i guess its too much. plus in the open space like that you arent going to get great sound anyway.

nice chrome sides of the 360. and nice xbox mat in front. ton of games with more then could fit on the dvd rack. and i see the hddvd player alongside the 360. i guess no tv reception out there but would be sweet to run some movies with friends while drinking out there. again you need to pull up some more chairs. At night it will be even better for gameplay and movie watching.

How did you get a TGI Friday umbrella?

and just to critique the tv doens't look liek that great of one and kinda small.

otherwise great setup and had to nitpick cus your showing off and overall it is pretty 1337.

Yeah, that picture on the deck is cool...but I wonder is that a staged picture? Would you really play the 360 outside like that?

More importantly...that TV doesn't look that stable on the little table...I'd be worried about it falling over or something. Otherwise...digging the composition of the picture, great job! That is the perfect post for this thread...

Thanks for all the positive feedback guys. Believe it or not, the picture is not staged, we have two setups like that outside, I hate split screen. Co-op and LIVE on the deck are great. :) The speakers in those TVs suck but I'm looking into getting a couple Bose 2.1 systems for a little more sound. The tables are solid metal and the TVs are pretty light so no problem there. The Friday's umbrella was picked up at a garage sale by a friend of mine for 5 bucks, still in the shipping plastic. It only takes a few minutes to move it all in the house in case of rain, that's why I have small 32 inch TVs out there, I want to be able to move them by myself if I'm the only one around. So... if you have a shady spot around your house, I highly recommend a little outdoor gaming.

nothing like coop local lan on sep screens. but I just realized that noone asked where you are plugged in for power. looks like some of the cables go through the deck slits and i'm assuming down or under and across to power somehwere?

do you have to use extension cord? so you have ethernet cable plugged in also? or using wireless. must have to be long ethernet cord if that.

speaking more strictly just about local lan play, that means you have to have another 360 also connected with ethernet and then do tey both hae to be into the same router? Then how do you connect for a local lan multiplayer game (coop or vs)?

Because I realized I have 2 360's in my house both connected via ethernet cables through the walls to the router (router on 2nd floor, elite on 1st floor, premium in basement) so I should be making use of that and be playing some local lan multiplayer and/or coop.

Being totally separate floors of house though, we might have to use headsets? and then it mine as well be live online though i guess you can do that too? both get on live and play or do both 360 have to have a live account or can one be a guest. i'/m thinking you can only have a guest when they are onl the same console like some ppl did with gears of war, playing on live but they were 2 ppl on one console split screen.

i guess maybe you could connect 2 tvs to one 360 if the game support that. but i dont think id say be able to have someone on one tv with 360 and me on teh other and have us both get on live using my one live account.

I should definately be able to do some local lan action though right? or do you need 2 copies of the game? if so I can take care of that too but that makes it a bit more of a pain.

Sounds like you've got all the makings for a LAN co-op/vs. setup there my friend. You do need multiple copies of the game you're playing and some games don't support "system link" so you need two LIVE accounts. My son and I play C&C Tiberium wars against each other on LIVE, with seperate accounts, sitting in the same house. EA doesn't do system link in their games. :(
We have 10 XBoxes and 4 360s all wired up through out our house, so finding an ethernet port is never an issue, inside or out. :) Headsets are a must if you're in seperate rooms for co-op. I use surge protectors for power everywhere in the house, including outside where there are plenty of oulets. If this all seems a bit silly, I'm a home improvement nut with lots of friends neighbors and coworkers who like nothing better than to get together, fire up the margarita machine and game the whole night away. :D Good luck LANing !!

OK... back to the set-ups...

I dont know what this other guy is saying about candles and mosquito nets but obviously nothing worth even responding to and then you have alway the one dumb person to laugh at the useless comments of another who misunderstood (whether on purpose or just sheer cluelessness) and tries to be funny and flame ppl but i'm glad we understood what the other was saying and were able to communicate.

anyway...

awesome man, thanks for the clarifications on what you need to play coop and vs. on a home local lan. Yeah sounds like I can do it, should be fun. Man I thought I was over the top with 2 360's and 2 in wall jack wired ethernet ports on 3 diff floors of my house but its def the way to go.

tough part is having the multiple copies of games and live accounts, i can get extra copy of some games and Live those 48 hour live codes may come in handy.

Thats awesome you play C&C with your son, I have a daughter on the way and was afraid my gaming days were coming to an end or at least severely stipened but i'm sure there will be opportunities to play.

I have to get some pictures up of my setups (67" 1080p dlp and 7.1 surround & 61" 1080p LED with 6.1 in wall surround both with wired ethernet wall jacks). thanks again for the info and motivation to do it up right. and sweet looking and sounding setup. I may have to pm you to get some additional gaming rig setup pics for ideas for the future for current and next house. For the beach house I usually just bring my elite and plug in via hdmi on a 47" ambilight 1080p lcd and thought that was living large away from home.

Actually now that I think about not that you need any help to make things much better but I have a few ideas that will help with your extra copies for lan gaming and add to your HD movie collection.

Whoa there number 4. If you didn't like the mosquito post...fine. If you don't find it amusing as I did...fine. But there is no reason to call anybody dumb and start flaming yourself.

You are only going to bring more flaming once you start calling people dumb. All I commented was that his post was funny. I didn't insult you or him. If you don't like his post...take it up with him.

Show your adult nature (I assume you are one) and refrain from personal attacks on the people that post. As I take great offense to being explicitly called dumb.

10 xboxs and 4 360s. Wow. I do have a lan question. How can you get headphone sound out of the elite. We have 2 elites in the same room and one sterio. The other guy needs sound. How do you get non voice headphones to work? (not the voice chat, that is easy, but the environmental sounds)

I also wonder why Ea never does system link on console games. C&C has lan for pc, but not for the 360. Lame!!!! We don't make margaritas, we drink malt beverages stored in a mini fridge. Game nights are a blast.

EA blows for not including system link on 360 games, Battlefield on game night would be the s**t. As for the headset thing, Turtle Beach and I'm sure some others make headsets that would fit your bill nicely. http://www.turtlebeach.com/products/gaming-headphones.aspx

undecided right now. In the last room I had it below the screen. And I found that for people in the back row it was hard to hear as the speaker was too low. So I am trying above the screen for a while. I wired the wall so I could have two centers, you can see the jack in the middle on the bottom, and I also wired for two prescence speakers for down the road.

No, above is better.

1st choice: Behind (an AT screen)
2nd choice: Above
3rd choice: Below

newfmp3
09-07-07, 07:20 PM
well, there is another reason why mine is above....a stud. I had a knee wall going around the room, it is a basement room. So I had to build the screen wall up a little to obviously be able to mount the screen. So I put studs in where I needed them. However, in the center of the lower half of the wall, that is the original part of the wall and of course there is no @#$@#$ stud where I wanted to put the speaker even if I wanted to install the center there.

Anyways, I'll try this for a while, see what it sounds like. At least it's one more speaker off of the floor that I don't have to worry about some kid kicking or drunk landing on :)

Since my last pic I have also upgraded to an elite and bought a new Sony 7.1 AVR to replace the Pioneer one I had (although I'm only using 5.1)

I rearranged my component stack, replaced my Xbox premium with an Elite and replaced my Oppo dvd with a new Toshiba A30 hd-dvd - want me to post an updated pic? ;)

Well...Ya! :D

I last posted here in Fall 2006. Made a couple of changes since then. You should be able to tell what the first one is.

I used the picture settings from this post (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showpost.php?p=11287410&postcount=1500) the quality is insane.

I also had a 6.1 Onkyo STS-HK240 system. Managed to get another surround speaker making it a 7.1 . I'll probably upgrade to the Onkyo 705 when it drops in price.

360 , HDDVD , PS3, Blu Ray all look incredible on this thing. More pics of my setup in my sig.

Yeah after watching TMNT on Blu Ray last night, I'm gonna buy a ton of HD movies soon. And when the new LG or Samsung combo HDDVD / Blu ray drops in price ( its 999 now ) I'm definitely gonna pick it up.
