Would you guys say that you noticed a difference going to HDMI from Component?

I have several 360s, multiple copies of the same games (for LAN play) and a bunch of different type of TVs so we actually ran side by side comparisons of the same game running component and HDMI on several TVs. (I don't sleep much :)) Without a doubt, HDMI video was a little better (and I mean a little). Also Monster component cables surprisingly are better than smaller cables. The big difference was the Elite upscaling regular DVDs via HDMI... good stuff. :)

I used the picture settings from this post (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showpost.php?p=11287410&postcount=1500) the quality is insane.

I also had a 6.1 Onkyo STS-HK240 system. Managed to get another surround speaker making it a 7.1 . I'll probably upgrade to the Onkyo 705 when it drops in price.

Nah not stuck with it. Havent upgraded to HD till they add more channels. Had Dish at my old apart and just wanted to try something new when i moved. If FIOStv hits my area ill prob bolt..Got the FIOS internet and it FAST. For now DIRECTV is cheap and fine.

Got a great deal on the stand. Its from WALMART only $99.

Very easy to put together. Its supposed to have two draws on the bottom but i decided not to include them. The stand is solid.

How is everybody getting these awesome Halo3 shots without jaggies? I already asked this in the Halo3 pic thread, but I must be missing something. When I'm playing in solo campaign mode, I'm seeing alot of jaggies. I don't see any jaggies from the posted pics.

Once again, I see people are just posting pics. I thought we would actually see pics of home theater setups. H3 has a system for sharing pics that were taken directly from the game. I don't want to see those on this thread, I want to see how people are gaming at home.

The TV does not render the console does, The TV just displays what the console is rendering, the image is still produced in 720p but since the TV cant produce a HD image I get the TV highest possible resolution.

Thats not my system. My speakers are much smaller for one. Mine is in the linked pics. I had a good amp. I listened and choose Paradigm. It had great bass and highs. My dads Kefs seem to have a effortless mid range that is better, but I liked the paradigm. Its all personal taste. My game room is cluttered, but it is a lot of fun. I now have a amp connected to the 2nd 360.

It's just hower Halo 3's "screenshot" function works, it renders the images at far higher fildelity than what can be accomplished in real time.

I have read that bungie did not include anti-aliasing in halo 3 :/....hence the jaggies. I will post some halo shots later on. (No I wont post a screenshot, I'll post my tv displaying it :D)

a) COD4 is going to be amazing, definately a must buy, will be as good as
Halo 3 and/or even better. totally different from COD3 game play. The perks are great, the weapons even better and the graffics are awesome. I think ima be one of those guys waiting on line at midnight.
b) hmm the Orbs: got them as a gift 10 years ago. They look kool right. i looked on the bottom for you and it says Caithness Magic Lantern from Scotland. You can google it, maybe you can order them, who knows.

* Lucasfilm's top THX Ultra2 certification
* 130 watts x 7 channels
* three-room/three-source output

do you notice the difference in the True HD sound with DTS? and THX Ultra2 and THX select 2?

That current logitech setup you have isn't very demanding a 604 or 605 is plenty for them.

I'm going to be picking it up, hopefully the price drops in a few months. Want those HDMI ports and Dolby TrueHD and DTSHD capabilities too.

I just picked up PGR4 last night. I'm gonna start posting some pics from my new Samsung tonight.

TrueHD and DTS-MA decoding in the receiver is overrated. All Blu-Ray and HD-DVD players are required to decode the audio and output as LPCM due to advanced authoring restrictions. You just need a receiver that can accept multichannel LPCM over HDMI.

Of course, there aren't any players that can decode DTS-MA currently, but at the same time I don't think there are any that can output it in bitrate mode to a receiver either. Possibly the latest line of HD-DVD players can, but then most HD-DVD titles do not come with DTS-MA tracks. They're far more common on BD movies.

I must be blind. I looked back looking for your hdmi pics. But cant find them? Is it a different game? Halo 3? If it isnt to much time consuming and a hassle. Can you post component vs hdmi screenshots with those screens your talking about with hdmi?

here is my setup, i just got the projector up and getting my 35ft cables on monday. thinking about getting a second 360 so i can have some halo 3 lan play on both screens.

first pic is just of TNT over regular cable, not HD. Second pics arent that great either...ill try to take some better pics but my camera isnt too great. These pics were taken with my moms camera when they were visiting last weekend.

yep its Azura, got it on Target.com when there was a sale and also used the xbox live diamond card discount for another 10% off. once i got it there was small dent on the top piece that happened during shipping so target gave me another 10% back so the final price was about $180 shipped. the sad thing is with the sale and 10% off originally the stand was only about $130 but the shipping was $65. I ordered it about 3 months ago and i dont see it listed on target.com anymore.

I think it is since that you have your brightness and sharpness set to what it is in Movie mode.

I guess you just have to recalibrate it then. What disc do you have by the way?
I want to recalibrate my Samsung using the Halo 3 tool, but they say that is bad. Plus I have the THX Optimizer and Vikuiti.

Got it at Nebraska Furniture Mart here in Kansas City. The furniture company that makes it is Cosmo. I paid $180 for it which is strange because all of the sites online are selling it for around $300-400. I also got 2 end tables for $112 each.

What set is that? Also, if it's a projection tv, do they all have that look with the corners being dark? One thing though, the image quality looks really good.

i was just about to ask the same thing, the Vignetting on every image is really annoying, i could not deal with that on a daily basis, do all DLP's look like that?

Last year or so I bought a brand new 32" samsung lcd for about $1300. I bought my projector a couple weeks ago for $820...the value's unreal. I only use mine for games and movies tho, I watch tv on my regular set.

I'd love to get some photography tips from you guys. I have my 360 connected via VGA and for some reason these photos make the color look very over-saturated. I'm sure there is something I can do to correct this, even with a budget digital camera like mine.

On those projectors. Can you use them on a regular wall or do you need to get a screen?
If you have a white wall and a good projector, you can use the wall, but usually (although not always) a good screen will give better results.

That said, it looks great on my bare wall for gaming. Movies have the colour a bit off (because my wall has a slight green tint to the paint), but for games that doesn't matter much. I don't even notice the colour change in gaming.

BTW, some people make their own screens for cheap, but buying plastic laminates, etc. at the hardware store.

Wow cedclark, whose are some fantastic looking shots. I've been holding off on buying Halo (have my $$ earmarked for Guitar Hero III and Rock Band), but after seeing your screenshots, I think I might have to splurge. (The Orange Box looks awfully tempting as well!!)

Man, this makes me want to go take pictures of my projector and setup! I guess I'm going to have to take some tonight and throw some shots in here. I think I'll snap some pictures of Portal as there doesn't seem to be any here.

thankfully im one of the very few people on this board who seem to actually get so ingrossed in what im watching/playing, the annoyances doesn't seem to bother me.

I was thinking of putting everything behind me thinking maybe it'd look better, but I hardly have time to move stuff around w/ working fulltime and doing my sr year of college.

Sorry, no 360 yet. But heres what Im playing it on. Not HD but I have 7.1 surround and those two HUGE boxes behind the tv are my dual 18's that I made (wink, wink. Sig).

Sorry I got called to work many hours and have since not had the time to get the pics. As far as why you would want the elite is pretty simple. The elite is capable of a much more accurate picture then the non elite. 2 factors come into play here: pure mode, and CMS. Pure mode is a picture mode not found on the non elites that represents color faithfull to the source. Pure mode does not contain the severe errors with red and green being oversaturated. CMS or Color Management System, is the ability to move the primary and secondary color points, allowing the calibrater to achieve color that is close to perfect. No other flat panel display can do color as accurate as a calibrated elite kuro. I had the non elite for about a month, and even had it ISF calibrated by UMR which is one of the best in the biz. The 5080 track grayscale near perfect but has errors with red and green that to me were borderline unacceptable. The elites in pure mode also achieve the best measured gamma of any flat panel set as well. That translates to zero loss in shadow detail. What more could you want from a tv. P.S. the pictures should be up tonight or tommorow.

How do things not overheat in that enclosure?

I consulted with a civil engineer and told him the components I had planned on using and the size of the closet and he figured as long as I had a certain number of air changes an hour, I would be fine. If you look in the corner you can see the intake vent. Behind the rack is a Panasonic whisperquiet vent fan that I got for about $120. It's not even audible if you're six feet away (so you can't even hear it with the door closed.)

I had both and played both, now i have the Elite. The differences are as follows:

120GB HDD;
HDMI connection with cable included;
Black casing;
Black controller;
Black Headset;
Looks nicer in my entertainment center.

^I think hes asking about the "elite" version of the TV- not the 360. :)

Ok guys so heres my problem now i'm getting a samsung 932BW 19" monitor and i have a 360 , and i'm using the monitor for the 360 only(nothing else). I know i have to get a VGA cable, but i as far as sound goes i don't know how to hook up the speakers i wanna hook up. Sound quality isn't that big in my book as long as its clear so i was gonna get a pair of speakers from best buy that are about 15 bucks how do i hook the speakers up without a reciever --on a tight budget

Oh yeah speakers are cyber acoustics 2.1 set model number CA-3006 from best buy.

the VGA cable comes with an adapter that lets you hook the composite audio in to a 3.5mm jack(the size used by PC speakers)

I'm still breaking it in, and it's not calibrated yet. It has about 40-50 or so hours on it so far.

Taken last night during the World Series. I swear it's not that blurry in real life. :) And yeah, it's a cheap TV stand, but it more or less works. Well, with the TV not falling off of it, I guess it does work? :)

The TV is an Olevia 242V 42" LCD HDTV. It's not cream of the crop, doesn't give you the blackest blacks, but still is a wonderful piece of equipment. You'll also see an old Sony 5.1 receiver, HD cable box (Charter), X360, PS2, Dreamcast, GameCube and the center surround speaker.

Bonus points to anyone who knows what the silver box is under the receiver and cable box to the right! :)

I have that stand too but I have the first one from 2 years ago I love the black one I saw that at BB the other day runs for the same price I got mine. My Bush stand has the silver legs and smoke glass tint. That one is just SIIIIIIIIIIICCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKK

I have the same Bush stand! The stand is sooo nice...I have a 50' Panny PZ77U..I will be taking some pics this weekend hopefully. I really recommend it to anyone to is looking for a tv stand, the directions are very well done.

Both TV's are excellent but I don't use them that often to be honest most of my time is spent on the 140" dedicated theater downstairs.

I looked at the mits and the sony as well before deciding on the Sammy it was the best deal for me at the time.

Its a samsung HLS6187. Im not sure who makes the stand, we got it at best buy though. From the posts above it sounds like its a Bush stand heh.
