@ least this thread is still open. Over @ the TXB were on our 3rd 360 HI-DEF Gaming Thread because people just can't be civilized.... The 1 thing I've noticed on both sites is people are sooooooooooo sensitive about their set-ups & have a hard time taking criticism.

If you can't take criticism may it be Good, Bad or Indifferent maybe you should refrain from posting pictures of your set-up & just be a LURKER

Sheesh people , didn't all ur mama's teach you no betta' ? :D

I could tell it was just in good fun but you still have to be careful not to offend , we all have different tastes after all and if we all had the exact same looking HT's then what need/fun would there be for a thread like this one ;) .

Back to the thread topic please ( ah , I see Shape got us back on track , thanks :) ) .

Ahhh. The truth comes out. Someone can certainly dish it out but can't take it. Let's look at your post that started this whole argumentative thing first:

For The Love Of God Please Put That Sony On The Wall. Keep The Bikini Pics Coming Forget About 360 Shots, Lol

Also The Dude With The Red Sofa, Go To Target And Spend Like $80 Buck On A Sofa Cover.

And now mine:

For the love of Glare, please put an area rug down on the floor. Keep the tree pics coming and forget about 360 shots, Lol.

Also, as to the floor lamp, go to Target and spend like $10 bucks on track lighting.

Look familiar?

Wow...this thread has certainly devolved big time! I thought most people here would be adults to be able to afford all these setups.

What is really the point for anyone on this thread or this forum in general to call any other user stupid? Attacking another user, even if they feel it's in defense, really doesn't do anything to promote a higher standard.

Before anyone cares to pounce on my non-screenshot post, I have already posted screenshots of my setup in this thread ...so I feel I do have some leeway to make this post.

I have enjoyed looking at all the screenshots, but the last few pages of adolescent finger pointing really has no place on any AVS thread.

Ok...maybe now I should take some fresh pictures to post...though I STILL have been too lazy to hide all the ugly wires. One of these days I'll stop gaming long enough to clean up the wires.

Its funny how u can talk about someone elses setup and you cant even show ur own. LOSERS. The site moderator should ban them from posting anything on this thread.

Actually mine is the HLS5687W and I looked at the HLT5076S and IMO the 87W has better pq as well and less issues with bowing due to a more sturdier frame and bezel. When I checkout the thread for HLT almost all the posts were about issues with bowing and people went thru 3-4 sets that all had the same amount of bowing. I also noticed it at the store. I spent about 30 minutes with the sets until I settled with the 87W.

Sorry for late response. Been over at TXB thread.

Yeah turns out I bought the 6176s. It was a major disappointment!! Nuff said on that!

Funny thing is, I originally thought he was refereing to DaGamePimps couch since that is the only red couch pic posted prior to his post about a slip cover. The irony of seeing how he felt when the shoe was on the other foot, so to speak, and his responses, was quite hilarious.

Anyway, enough about that subject. I agree with you and think everyone here wants to see this thread continue. To that end, if all of us just let those few acrimonious posts quietly fade away from our memory, this thread can continue as before.

I thought I already had some pics on this thread showing the 360 on my old Infocus 4805 and 120" SilverStar but I can't find them. I've since upgraded to an Infocus 7210 and need to take some new pics anyways and I'll do so this weekend.

Samsung 1080p 120hz LCD LNT4671F

I saw this set at BB and was absolutely amazed at the 3D look of the POTC and Pearl Harbor clips they were showing on it. Hands down, the best I've ever seen. I've been thinking of getting one for the family room but personally don't know if I could get used to it.

Most movies are shot on film and they just don't look like film on this set. It's almost too realistic and feels like you're looking at a live news video feed. It's definitely a different look than what we're accustomed to. Video games are an entirely different matter and I'd imagine they'd look unbelievable on this set.

Congrats on your purchase. Look forward to hearing how you like it and definetly seeing some 360 screenshots on it.

Shape - How are you liking that TV? I'm considering buying it after the holidays, although it not being wall mountable has me on the fence. You really can't beat it for the price, so I'm not really sure. Nice shots.

Max Lomax - The thought of 100+ inches of COD4 is what keeps a projector on my list, even if it would take double the work to setup, and alot more of a space commitment.

They have the 52" setup at a local Circuit City and another one at Fry's, it is simply amazing. I definitely want 120hz on my next set. That and the Sony XBR4's are breathtaking. I'm tempted to bring in console just to see how it looks, probably a bad idea as I'd be sold I bet

You should definitely buy one man! amazon.com currently has the 52" for $2555,46" $2100,and finally the 40" for $1550. The 40" to my eyes is still a great size HDTV and the 3d look makes it stand out so much it does not seem so small. That should mean alot coming from me...and my previous 61" DLP.

The 3D look that you are afraid of getting used to is only there if you have AMP turned on. AMP has 3 different settings. High,Med, and low. If you shut it off the amazing PQ will still be there and according to the owners you still get 120hz and a picture only rivaled by the pioneer kuro and plasmas alike and ofcourse the XBR4s and 5s. Though I will say the guy who took those pics I showed earlier had the xbr4 and took it back for this sammy LCD. He noted the samsung had deeper blacks and a more crisp image.

If you get one GET the samsung.

Heres more from TXB off the samsung 71f series LCD!

I thought it would be interesting to note that the 360 pics posted thus far have all been off component and NOT HDMI which to me is impressive considering the extreme detal and sharpness of the image. and they are JUST pictures on top of that. Also currently the set was calibrated by the owner for movies and not games. This set is TRULY amazing.

The detail is what I am looking at anyway. I love how in your pic you can see the water hanging off individual facial hairs. Its sick!

Btw, many have taken back their 81fs noting that the PQ is not great enough to justify the extra cash. But it won't be a bad HDTV thats for sure. For that matter neither will the sony xbr4s. Samsung so far though is beating it even though cnet rates the sony above the samsung our test at teamxbox proves otherwise.

I don't even care about the small difference in video quality

I just want the 81f cuz it's LED based so it should get a tremendously longer life right?

Here is a quote from a guy here on AVS lntxx71f owners thread who had the 71f and took it back for the 71f who goes by the name JoelTron.

"Okay...after a bit more testing...I'll be returning my 81 and going back to the 71.

My reasons...I really like 120hz AutoMotion on the 71...works very well for gaming. Really...the 71 is a nice jump from the 65...but the 81 not so much from the 71...very disappointing. Playing the Medal Of Honor Airborne demo on 360 makes me want to puke on the 81.

Picture quality on the 81 is very subjective...it really depends on what youre watching. I personally liked the way things looked like on the 71 a little better. I kinda want to try out the XBR4 now...but I'm pretty sure management is going to be pissed off if I try that out and go back to the 71 anyways.

My 2 cents...save your moneys for the 71 or the XBR4...LED local dimming isn't really ready to go yet." End of quote.

Get the 71f. If thats not enough go ask in the thread.

I understand you wanting the LED whihc last longer, but when researching LCDs I come to find out they can last (if taken care of) a maximum of like 70-80,000 hours. Definitely 40,000!

So if you watch that screen 16 hours a day 365 days a year for 3 and a half years...you will have use just over 20,000 hours...so you got 3 and a half years left.

I doubt anyone will do that. So i'd say you are good.

Wow. I've read the last 2 pages of this thread and I can't believe how little pics of setups are being posted. And I still don't understand why people continue posting pics of an HD image on their tv instead of the setup. We all know that everybody here owns a set capable of displaying HD. We all know that we also can't objectively tell how great your set's display abilities because the of the camera that took the pic and the display we may be using to read this web page. Let's start posting pics of SETUPS.

Shape, how are you liking the A3000? Noticeable improvement with motion in games with the 120hz tech. or is it simply sources like 24p that reap benefits? I assume it does the interpolation like the XBR4 and XBR5 lcd's as well?

---
Pretty amazing how a lot of these pics look better than the ones websites put up!

I love the A3000! Yes, it will do interpolation. However, I leave it turned off for video games. If you think about it, the TV would need to have 2 frames of video in order to display the interpolation of the frame inbetween them. This means that video will always be delayed by at least 1/60th of a second, and probably more with interpolation turned on. There is no way around it.

Interpolation works well with some stuff, like football. For movies, like Transformers in HD, the interpolation leads to a seriously creepy effect. Enough to give you nightmares. :) The motion is too smooth. Really hard to describe why it looks so wrong. It makes movies look more like video, for one.

However, when you have the A3000 in Cinemotion Mode 2, it does an AMAZING job with 24fps film. There is no panning judder whatsoever. The picture is very film-like. I'm really impressed with the performance with movies.

The color of this TV is simply incredible. It is almost spot on once you take it out of Vivid mode.

I don't think there is a better value in a big screen TV right now than the A3000.

Stargate Atlantis is simply one of the best HD broadcast pictures I have ever seen. No macroblocking at all, sharp as a tack, and the color is incredible, as you can see. Much better than OTA HD. In fact, it is closer to HD-DVD and Blu-Ray.

Screw Time Warner. :) Go DirecTV! :)

The topic title is " So, post your 360 screenshots and tv u r using". Isn't that what people are doing? :)

I believe a while back that someone attempted to start a "Pictures of your Set Up ONLY" thread that got locked down by the mods. Personally I thought it was a nice idea - but I guess the powers that be felt differently. :)

I also like the set up photos. And the wiring or cabinet set ups. It is so fun to watch. But the the dialog was even better. I felt like I was junior high again.

Sounds freaking sweet! Thanks for the feedback.

I was asking at the LCD forums on a set about if the interpolation would cause lag on games and didn't really get an answer. You pretty muched said what I thought would be the case.

So for movies and stuff, do you have to delay the audio slightly to your receiver or does is the lag so minimal you don't notice audio delay? I watch a ton of movies blu-ray and HD DVD (will need to upgrade to a 24p player eventually)

I haven't noticed the audio preceding the video due to the frame interpolation. I think that 1/60th of a second isn't enough time to notice audio sync issues.

No, I had Charter cable. The PQ of DirecTV, even with the old MPEG2 stuff was miles better than the crap that Charter was pushing.

I think that the new MPEG4 HD channels that DirecTV has look really great, and there are tons of them. It all depends on the source material, too, of course. Some episodes of Mythbusters, for example on Discovery HD are pretty soft, but I think that is due to Discovery, not DirecTV.

Does the PQ fade and/or picture go out when its raining, cloudy or snowing??

Shape

I might get rain fade once or twice a year. The picture just goes away completely. I've never considered it a big issue since it is brief (less than a half hour) and so rare.

Plus, if you ever miss a show due to it, shows on cable channels are re-run all the time. And shows on networks are available on the internet. I've never missed anything due to rain fade.

Snow can pile up on the dish, which caused issues with my smaller, old dish. Never had an issue with the big one (5LNB dish for HD) and snow. If it does give me issues, I just brush the snow off.

I've never had any issue with clouds causing interference.

You are lucky. With the newest DishHD sat dish, our picture drops out all the time (It once dropped out because of a storm 10 miles away ><). It's gotten to be some irksome that we are considering switching to DirectTV, or even back to Comcast (even though Comcast has horrible compression artifacts during any popular show =/). When it's working it is pretty incredible though. Something like 25-30 HD channels, with a much better PQ than we ever got from ComcastHD, not to mention the DVR that destroys the DVR from Comcast.

Does DirectTV get the NFL Network? Or the Voom suite? (Kung Fu HD, Gameplay HD, etc)

Yes NFL network also in HD and they launched about 60 new channels in the last 2 months for HD with a total of 100 by the end of the month is planned. The New DVR does not accept accept an off-air HD antenna so be prepared if you are not able to recieve local HD through the sat. It is not available every where. I am in Little Rock Arkansas and I have to use an off-air antenna to recieve them here.

Here in the suburbs of Kansas City, the off air HD signal is excellent (luckily), so that isn't a concern. 100 HD channels? Is that for the basic HD package, or is that including HBO etc?

If it goes out again, I'll probably switch to Direct TV. If Direct TV goes out, then it's back to cable I go :(

On another note, I know COD4 is essentially the same game on both the 360 and the PS3, but it's games like COD4 that make me glad Xbox Live exists.

Just for information purposes. At Circuit City if you Buy an HD display and sign up for HD Directv you get $300 off your display instantly and 1 year of HD service. So you pay the basic charge for example HD DVR package runs for 69.99. Normally you would pay 11.99 in addition to the package for HD.

It has been reported on one blog so far. Crutchfield says the SXRDs are very popular and that they haven't heard anything from Sony about this. It would surprise me if they dumped RPTVs. But the article is out there, making me think they might have something. :(

We will have to wait for Sony to say something.

I honestly wouldn't switch services (if your satisfied when its working) just because of the fact it goes out when bad weather.

It would take just as much or less effort making your situation right than switching to Direct.

Im guessing its not getting a high signal... I'm also guessing that the dish is getting a clear view because you said you lived in the suburbs.

The new dish that dish uses for HDTV is not as easy as the old dishes to tune in so if you might of got a less experienced person to install your dish... it also depends on where they mount it... it needs to be mounted pretty solid. Id call in and say your losing signal alot and you think it is to do with the way the dish was installed... and thats your problem anyhow.

Max Lomax - You just sold a copy of The Matrix in HD, even though I already own it on DVD. Good lord.

Id call in and say your losing signal alot and you think it is to do with the way the dish was installed, which is more than likely the reason.

Satellite isn't for everyone. Channel line ups don't define the quality or flexibility of the service. I have 6 TVs in my house and if I had to have a box with all of them I..well I wouldn't have them all.

Plus, in my experience with them, DirectTV's service and installation techs are TERRIBLE, you're lucky if they don't swiss cheese your house when putting in the dish. They get paid like $95 an install/activation, so most of them just try to get it done as quickly as they can so they can run off to the next abortion clinic install they have on the list. All the ones I have worked with usually tried to find excuses why they can't do the install the moment they arrived on site. If it's not laid out on a silver platter and they know it's going to be tough to do quickly, they try to leave and pass it on to the next tech that gets sent out.

The boxes you get are usually refurbs, and they try to sell you extended warranties on these old used boxes, claiming you will have to pay to replace them after 90 days or w/e if you don't have the extended warranty, which is BS. They also lock you in to two year contracts.

I have gotten 4 DVRs from DirecTV, and I've never once had a refurb sold to me.

If you get an equipment discount, then yes, contracts are the norm. I like staying with one service, so that isn't a problem for me.

And I only have 2 TVs in my house, so no issue there. If you have 6 TVs (golly!), then yeah, satellite probably isn't for you.

If you want the most HD channels available right now, though, Satellite is the only way to go.

A Ton more? I think not. Here's Dish HD...

Yes, a ton more. :) I didn't include the 35 RSNs that DirecTV carries, whereas your list does include RSNs. I also didn't include the 15 PPV HD channels, whereas the dish list includes it. And I didn't include all of the special DirecTV sports packages. And I didn't list NBA HD twice. :)

Anyway, here is the full list.
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=914047

If you compare the two lists, DirecTV really does have a ton more HD networks (i.e. not Kung Fu and Monsters HD) available. Dish is missing a lot of the available HD networks.

But I agree that this is the wrong place to be discussing this. This will be my last post in here on this subject.

Hopefully I can remember to post some XBox game play pictures tonight.

New Sony KDL 52W3000 with this shot I'm using the HD Component cables. This TV allows for 1080P through component, so games look nice. However I have an HD DVD add-on so I've re-connected my 360 via VGA to get 1080P.
This shot though was day 1 with no calibration through Component:

Here's the setup in the living room of my one bedroom apartment. The picture is an Akai 42" HD plasma. Consists of Samsung glass with lazy scalers. Great for HD/ED material, sucks for 480i. Good thing the only thing left in my system that is 480i is the occasional PS2 RPG. :) Audio consists of the beautiful Yamaha RX-V2500 with 4 Energy eXL-15s and an XL-C100. The Wii, Dreamcast and 360 are stock. The Xbox is softmodded to run XBMC and is my main media source. The PS2 is softmodded with a HDD in it. I of course have all of my legally owned games sitting on said harddrive. Rounding out video sources are my Samsung DirecTV HD box being used as a local HD tuner, and my Philips HDD DVD recorder. Everything is controlled by a Harmony 520.

Full Setup with flash on. Everything is nice and bright, even the flash in the middle of the screen!

My wall o' media. The left 3 racks are audio and PC, middle 3 games, and the right 3 are movies. Each rack holds 180 CDs or 88 DVDs. Over the last 2 years, this has actually shrunken alot. Lately I have been pretty vicious and gotten rid of a lot of stuff.

Did You Know Quiz: Did you know the Samsung LNTxx71F is argueably the BEST LCD on the market. It took on a faceoff against the pioneer Kuro and lost, but it was noted and it was just as good as the Kuro in some areas. Kuro was then named in this particular battle the BEST HDTV on the market leaving samsung's LCD 2nd place. The exact model of the samsung in the battle was the 81F series..yet through reviews here on AVS have led many to prefer the 71F over the 81F in terms of PQ and ofcourse price. Therefore the samsung LNTxx71F is argueably the BESTLCD on the market.

Cool looking forward to them. Actually if you go into the 360 display settings and set it to Extended for black level. It fixes the washed out colors. Leaving it on standard leaves them all washed out. The 360 had a update where it fixed the signal. Something about the 360 sending a 7.5IRE and the vga signal from the tv/monitor was expecting a 0IRE but instead was getting 7.5IRE. Now setting it to Extended the 360 it sends a 0IRE to the tv/pc monitor matching what the tv/monitor is expecting 0IRE as well. Maybe someone else can explain it better. I believe that is the jist of it vga wise. I love how vga pretty much does the calibration for you. I call it the lazy man calibration color wise. :P At least on my Samsung lcd. Everything is locked out accept Contrast and Brightness. Another benefit running vga. It isn't jaggie central anymore. I can notice a big difference in jaggies using 720 component and 1360x768 vga.

Joey Cusack- Do they have a 60 inch version of that TV? Even at 52, those shots are making me consider a samsung (or more specifically, an LCD). That is undoubtedly the best blacks I've ever seen from an LCD. Maybe those shots aren't quite as glorious as the shots I've seen of the Pioneer plasmas, but at half the cost, I'm tempted.

I've waited too long anyway, and with a snow storm coming, I'll have to wait till after Christmas to look at them in store, but mama mia :D So many sets to choose from.

Even though I own the game (COD 4) and play it extensively, looking at other peoples screenshots still makes me shake my head and it really sinks in how far games have come.

I mean seriously, look at Shape's screenshots. LOOK AT THAT F'ING GAME! YES THAT IS ACTUALLY WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE WHEN YOU ARE PLAYING OMFG. Erm, sorry.

I gotta say it still blows my mind that this is the little virtual world that we get to go play in..I was playing last night, unloading my M4 on people and reloading it while ducking behind cover, really looking at the animations when I was reloading. Really studying the guns and how they work and shoot, how they sound. Studying how the bullets hit objects and people and the effect it has on them and the many different animations when enemies die. Sometimes they get blown right off their feet as if they were getting a carpet pulled out from under them. Sometimes when you get a headshot you can clearly see your enemy collapse like a sack of potatoes as if you just flipped a switch on him. God.

I clearly remember thinking to myself that this is the perfect game. Plain and simple. Just an insanely perfect shooter. After almost a month and a half of playing this game extensively I still find things that amaze me about the way it looks and plays. That is the mark of a classic.

the samsungs and sony's look nice, but I'm noticing alot of black crush. If the tv really has good black level you should be able to get the deepest blacks and see all the shadow detail. When I get a better camera I'm gonna flood this thread with elite kuro ISF calibrated shots, that show the true beauty of that TV. BTW I am really impressed with the samsung 71 for LCD. The black levels are not even close to my elite, but the color is very good out of the box. Sorry guys the A3000 doesnt do anything for me. The primaries are way off out of the box, but to the defense of the TV I havnt seen one that was ISF calibrated. Anyone got a suggestion for a good camera around $300 bucks? Something good for low light, and for focusing with a decent shutter speed.

Not really a fair comparison. A few things come to mind. Some people do not have there sets isf calibrated like yours. Some people are using DNIe. And especially using the black adjustment. On low, medium or high. Its known to crush blacks big time. A fair comparison would be no extra stuff on and it being isf calibrated. I use to be all over DNIe. Now with all that garbage off. I really notice tons of detail I have been missing out on. I will never go back to it. Sure it adds pop to the picture. But at a huge cost of details and finer details like shadow detail for one that you mentioned.

In fact, they liked the A3000's color accuracy much better than the Kuro's, which had some trouble with greens.

For that superb color fidelity we mentioned, choose the Standard setting for the Color space. We measured the primary colors of red, green, and blue for both Standard and Wide, and found Standard to be very close to--you guessed it--the ATSC standard.

Overall performance on the Sony KD-S55A3000 was excellent, and its standout characteristic compared with other HDTVs is color accuracy. When the Sony is set to Standard color space, the primary colors of red, green, and blue are nearly dead-on accurate to the ATSC specifications. The color decoding is accurate for both SD and HD sources, and the grayscale from the Warm 2 factory preset came mighty close to the broadcast standard. A quick tweak in the advanced menu under white balance made the grayscale nearly perfect. For our full user-menu settings, click here or scroll down to the Tips section below.

Kuro review:
http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/pioneer-kuro-pdp-5080/4505-6482_7-32476901.html?tag=prod.txt.1

The Pioneer's green is also quite yellowish--a common issue with plasmas--and while 300 lacks the give-away greens that illustrate this issue, we did notice a subtle yellow in other green-dominated scenes, such as the jungle during an episode of Sunrise Earth on DiscoveryHD.

We appreciated that the Warm color temperature preset came relatively close to the standard of 6,500K, although it appeared a bit minus-green and plus-red overall. As we mentioned above, we really missed the ability to fine-tune the grayscale, and since the set lacked this ability in the user menu, we did not perform an "after" calibration (see the Geek box below). Of course, we're sure a professional can get the 5080HD a bit closer by accessing the service menu. For our complete user-menu adjustments for a darkened room, check out the Tips section below the review.

While my pictures look pretty good, they are also much more contrasty than the actual picture on the TV. You can't really tell how the TV looks from pictures since you ar relying on the fidelity of the lens, camera, and the monitor you are viewing it on.

That is why it was being asked , if Crank is a 2.35 film and the display is making it look like 1.78 or 1.85 . 2.35 (or Cinemascope) does not fill an entire 16:9 screen unless the source/display are in the wrong AR mode ;) .

All depends upon the view distance for the average person with 20/20 but many people can see the difference from about 40" and up .

I'm sorry I misspoke! Originally I went and looked it up on Amazon and it said "2.35:1" so I assumed that it was it. Did a bit more research online and it turns out that it's a MISSPRINT on the package. Indeed it is a 1.85:1.

Well if you are sitting 7' or more away from the TV you are making yourself see the difference.

I have 3 HDTVs.. in my main living room believe it or not is Pioneer Elite 1130HD as you see on my screenshots.. I sit away about 7-8' from it. I have a Panasonic 50" 1080p plasma in my office and I have Samsung 46" LCD in one of my bedrooms.. I sit about the same distance from them as I do from Elite.. I see absolutely no difference in resolution. To be honest with you 1130HD still has the best picture quality out of all 3 (colors, blacks) while still giving unbelievable sharp images.

I will be upgrading however to 92" 1080p projector soon.. and that's where I expect to see a difference.. huge screen, 1080p is a must.

"the samsungs and sony's look nice, but I'm noticing alot of black crush."

Sorry, but you are missing some really important things. The camera used more than likely has a lower dynamic range than the TV is spitting out. You don't know what kind post-processing went into the picture. And then of course there is the minor problem of your monitor displaying a picture of another monitor. You can't point out black/white crush under these circumstances. That is like the guy a couple pages back trying to tell another dude that he saw dead pixels in a 640x480 pic of a HD panel. Yeah, right. :)

Ok I agree with you there, but my statement was also based on seeing those sets in person. You cannot get the black level nearly as good without losing shadow detail on the 71 and especially the 81. I'm not downplaying the sets at all, I personally think they are the finest lcd's I have seen. The 71 would be my choice since the 81 has really messed up gamma, not to mention the local dimming needs to simmer a bit. Two more years and back lit lcd's will look better then current kuro's, but by then the kuros will be ahead of them at that time. Just my opinion

Not that I doubt you, but according to who?

And I guess that perfect (if the Kuro is perfect) would beat "nearly dead on accurate." But damn, talk about splitting hairs. The A3000 has spectacular color accuracy.

But I guess for 4.5 times the price of what I paid for the 60" A3000, the Kuro Elite definitely should be better. :)

Edit: The Perfect Vision also agrees with CNet. The A3000 is more color accurate than the Kuro Elite. The Elite is slightly better in greyscale tracking, however.

Seriously. I don't mean to insult because if I was rich like bill gates I would buy a Kuro. But in my opinion it seems like a ripoff yo. The samsung LCD was actually compared to the Kuro and in detail category they scored the same! for 2-3 grand more the HDTv should kill ANY other tv in EVERY category. They should not even be compared!!! PERIOD! thats all I will say.

Pioneers Rule. I love my Pio.

Then you or whoevers display is a piss poor of a set than if you seem to believe it doesn't look that good for most of us to claim it is full of jaggies. Not the case for both my setups.

If you were trying to confuse me with your wording, you certainly did. I'm not gonna waste time trying to decrypt that, so what are your settings for Halo to make it look like that? My TV is not bad, a 32" Samsung 720p so should be fine.

I can't tell if you were trying to say it is full of jaggies or it isn't, but it certainly is and how is there any denyin that? Its bc its at such a low resolution. In those pics Joey posted it looks like a high res.

It depends on how much i spend. If i spend $500 i remove after 5 days, if i spend $1000 i remove after 10 days and so forth and so on.

well, thats kinda like what I was thinking. except i was just wary to remove said stickers then have some bad mojo on the tv and have it produce some backlighting problem or dead pixel. however its been 14 days now. TV is calibrated now using settings found here at AVS Forum. And I can't complain about anything on this tv, so I guess its a keeper.
Stickers have now been removed and but most of my incoming pics still show them.

I really wish I hadn't seen those. The comparison shot is unbelievable! I don't see any black crush. It does look almost 3-d. Once the new LED tech reaches 60", I'm upgrading. Hopefully, in the meantime, I can avoid seeing pics like these.

Not to rub it in, BUT GEARS LOOKS SO MUCH BETTER IN PERSON ON THIS HDTV! ITS INSANE!

OH AND DRAKES FORTUNE!!!! GEEEEEEZ....THATS JUST TOO FREAKIN CRAZY LOOKIN ON THIS HDTV! LED is a type of backlighting for the picture. I don't think the Samsung 4671 is LED backlit, but the 81 is. There's still issues with it in it's early stages, for LCD LED anyway. It gives a more vibrant picture, but as you can see, the 71 series is no slouch.

Well I don't have a HD camera. Dude on teamxbox does but we have the same tv and use the exact same settings so I post his.

So I'm so mad cus I wish I could invite you all to my house and show you what I am seeing RIGHT NOW! which is absolutly INSANE! It looks so good.

The AMP feature does more than just make things smooth and fluid just FYI. I don't know how to explain this but the way that AMP on high makes film look like video it does THE SAME FOR GAMES! Unbelievable? Believe it!

We tested it! with AMP on high it makes Drakes fortune look alot more realistic.....put it this way...AMP makes film look like video....and it makes game look like film! YES SUH!

Its sicktastic if that was ever a word. Drake's Fortune has some artifacts on high, but heavenly sword IS STR8 PERFECTION with amp on HIGH! and Gears of war!!!!??? dON'T GET ME STARTED NUKKA!

Man yall need to buy/send me a HD camera cuz I aint got no money left lol.

My last bit of cash is going to get a 360 with HDMI.

If you were trying to confuse me with your wording, you certainly did. I'm not gonna waste time trying to decrypt that, so what are your settings for Halo to make it look like that? My TV is not bad, a 32" Samsung 720p so should be fine.
I can't tell if you were trying to say it is full of jaggies or it isn't, but it certainly is and how is there any denyin that? .

I have a 70" XBR2 with Halo edition 360 with HDMI. Another LCOS 60" XBR1 with a launch 360 Premium with Component. Sorry I don't have the list of settings I have done on both displays.

Its bc its at such a low resolution. In those pics Joey posted it looks like a high res

You have now confused me.
Are you thinking those shots are from HALO instead of HALO 3 with the comments about low resolution?

XMotoX
12-23-07, 07:15 PM
Halo 3 was developed with a low resolution, so it doesn't matter what its upscaled too there is still gonna be the same source... that's what I was talkin about..

And I guess i'll just have to play around with my TV once i get my 360 back :(

Not as low a resolution as Call of Duty 4, of course. Both games look amazing, though. I don't see how it matters.

XMotoX

Low resolution not only causes more jaggies but no AA does as well... thats my only complaint with Halo 3... on an HDTV with a high res you notice the jaggies worse bc the display has more pixels than H3 is giving it...

If you set far away its not really noticeable though, but if your up close it looks like crap!

...saying it looks like crap is pure BS.

Not if you qualify the statement with the words, "Compared to many other 360 games, like Bioshock, Assassin's Creed, CoD4, etc, etc, etc..." Then it simply becomes a matter of fact, rather than opinion.

XMotoX
12-23-07, 11:37 PM
Exactly... knowing what the 360 will do left me unimpressed with Halo 3... Not what I was expecting at all for the next gen Halo... but whatever... I guess the framerate would of been horrible if it was made in a higher res...'

A simple google search will tell you I'm not the only one complaining about jaggies, because they are definetely there:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&q=halo+3+jaggies

Also, even though it says 720p on the box... its not... apparently its 640p then upscaled.

http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/28/halo-3-not-hd-runs-at-640p-pixel-counters-claim/

Anyhow, that's besides the point bc I was only wondering how that one guy got his Halo to look so dang good, because a better TV should only further show the faults in something thats already not great.

Here is my latest setup (yes, I have to leave this at home while I'm at college- its not worth the risk if you ask me, plus this stuff makes it kinda hard to study).

I just upgraded my speakers to 6 of those Insignia's from Best Buy, I really like 'em and I got them on sale. I love my Toshiba 32HL67, I went through 5 different TV's before I settled on this one and it hasn't let me down (I'll try and get some good screenshots but my camera has been grumpy lately). :)

"Hey DarklordJames can you tell me what kind of shelves those are that hold your dvds and games. Also if you can tell me where they can be purchased too. Thanks. Nice setup BTW"

I sure can!

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/07305310

They are Ikea's Benno CD Tower. They hold the most amount of media I have ever seen in the smallest mount of space. And at $40 a piece, they were only $360 to hold my $10,000+ worth of media. :) They don't make the metallic grey color that I have anymore, but the red and black-brown are really nice looking too, if you like dark colors. Otherwise they have 3 or 4 light colors available.

They have stood up to the last 8 years of use with no signs of wear, and have lived through 1 move and 3 or 4 living room rearrangements. They also have a notch cut out of the bottom-back corner to allow for baseboards or cables. The only complaint I really have about them is that a couple that I have are not perfectly flat, so the sides bow a little bit. I would assume a product of shipping/storage/cheapness. I'm sure pressing them before assembly could fix that. Also, when a couple of them are next to eachother, it can show off how uneven your floor is. These are things you only ever notice if you look for them though, in my experience. Overall, they have been great for me.

when I was in college, our place was just filled with trash. Your setup is nice for a college kid. Nobody cares at all in college if your setup is wack or not, seriously. These truly are your golden years. Chicks don't expect you to shower them with nice dinners or presents because they know you are a massively poor college student. Nice stuff just gets smashed anyways. We had a 27 inch standard def tube tv in our apt in college back in '01. We would just flick bottle caps at the thing and spill beer and pile garbage on it. We did have some great perfect dark and tony hawk 2 sessions. Oh yeah and tekken 3 was big. Oh and don't even get me started on buying nice furniture for an apartment. We actually had a somewhat decent sofa get totally wrecked by people doing somersaults while drunk onto it. So that's my advice for you college boys. Don't buy anything you're afraid will get wrecked because more than likely it will.

Shape, would you say your TV performs as good or better than the same size LCD or Plasma?

It was CHEAPER than the same size LCD or Plasma. :) And a quality 60" LCD or plasma is probably 2.5 to 4 times the price of my RPTV.

Each technology has its issues. With RPTV, vertical viewing angles are pretty narrow, but side to side viewing angles are pretty good. Viewing angles are better with plasma and LCD all around.

LCDs vary greatly for black level, and so do plasmas.

This particular RPTV has an excellent black level, but it isn't as good as the best LCDs or plasmas.

The A3000 has excellent color reproduction. Better than pretty much any other TV on the market from what I have seen.

RPTVs won't be as sharp as an LCD or plasma, but the difference is pretty minor since we are talking a 1080p display. If you are a few inches from the screen, you might notice that the pixels aren't as well defined on a RPTV compared to an LCD/plasma.

Whats the diff between RP and DLP? Which is superior?

DLP is a type of projection, so I don't really understand the question.

Between DLP and SXRD, I think that SXRD is the superior technology.

XMotoX

That clears it up, thanks.

I think it if were me, Id buy what you have (if I had the space), because considering your not gonna be as close to it as on a small set your really not gonna notice much if any diff in the pixels. Too bad I really have no more room for anything higher than a 32" lol

Oh and yea I meanat SXRD compared to DLP... Sony just calls it rear projection on their site (they prob call it SXRD too I just didn't look hard enough)

Parts of PDZ look great, others not so much. PDZ really wasnt given the credit it was due. I would guess that this is because people expect better out of Rare, therefore judge them harder.

I didnt expect anything out of Rare, I just thought it was a really really really crpy game. Those images make the game look nicer then it actually was.

PDZ is a superb game

I'd still put it in the upper echelon of 360 FPS games... even above Halo 3

Well, here's my setup: an Optoma HD-70. I don't think I could go back to a smaller screen. Call of duty with the volume cranked up is awesome on this.

Nice pics.

I'm interested in the HD - 70. How far is your projector sitting away from your screen? Is it on a table or wall, ceiling mounted?

Thanks ahead of time!

Looks really nice... I like the organized look.

I was wondering about the amount of heat your electronics stack produces..

Do you have heat related issues at all?

Really? I personally dont like the look of 50 boxes on top of one another lol. That would be distracting from the screen for me.

Amazing wire management tho.

Thanks for the replies.

To each their own on component stacks - my space is pretty limited (as my pictures show) - so the BDI Vista stand was the best use of the limited space I have. I wish I had a better way to hide all my components too - but I don't. I guess it's nice that I can dim the hd-dvd and avr if I want.

As far as heat goes - starting from the bottom. The APC generates no heat at all - so that's why my Xbox 360 is on it - the Monoprice switch sits neatly atop the Xbox 360 between the left/right vents. All that is still about 2 inches below the middle shelf.

The middle shelf just houses the H/K AVR - only thing on that is the center channel (which I'm not happy about but oh well) - and it just barely covers a couple of the very front vents of the AVR - otherwise the AVR is completely vented. There's about 5 inches between the AVR and the top shelf.

The top shelf has my Toshiba HD-A35 hd-dvd which has no vents on top of it - which is why my Pace cable box is on top of it. The only thing I'm not wild about is my PS3 being on top of the cable box as it does cover a fair number of vents (I sure wish the PS3 was stackable - I HATE that stupid rounded off top) - however the sides and most of the back are open on the cable box - plus if the PS3 is on - the cable box is off and vice versa.

So to answer your question - no - no heat issues at all.

Rocketknight, I'm very happy with my HD70. I upgraded this summer from a BenQ PB6200, and it's great. My projector is about 16 feet back, wall-mounted.

It's just a single standard CinemaQuest Ideal Lume.

http://www.cinemaquestinc.com/ideal_lumesb.htm

And yes - it's a HUGE help - especially late at night while gaming or movie watching with the lights out. It helps enhance the black levels, hues, shadows and so forth - and also a really nice side effect is reduced eyestrain for me and my 40 year old tired eyes. :)

^Lol, I really don't know what age has to do with it (besides the fact how did you afford all three systems and a really nice TV? hehe Just curious), but thats good.

Howd you get the 360 wires to the TV? I'm assuming you drilled holes through the floor... but I won't assume.

By the way I have that same stand and I'm pretty sure it says to not stick anything over 32" on it :P (Idk why, its really sturdy, but it does)
