My opinion regarding BOSE is that they are way overpriced and that you can do MUCH better for the money. They sound ok....I guess, that is until you really try to play them loud and hard. You can hear them hit the wall pretty quick. What I mean by that is, the bass gets boomy if not distorted, treble almost seems to crack. They are just unsatisfying, and your ears will tire pretty quickly.

Now for the cool things about bose.

They are very easy to set up. Great for people who don't know too much about audio, and don't really want to learn much either. They also don't take up very much space. Hmmmmm....more cool things about bose....well that's about it.

I do have the bose wave radio/cd player that I got as a birthday present and for a clock radio it is fantastic. But what do you really expect out of a clock radio.

I guess if a bose system is free in your situation, then hell ya it's cool. Otherwise, friends don't let friends buy BOSE.

How can they change such high prices if they are really so piss poor. I mean I am not stupid, but if these systems are no better than say a HTIB or a $90 dollar xbox 360 5.1 surround sound system how the heck can they actually change $2900-$3900 for these things....I mean I have heard of rip offs, BUT MY GOD!! some people say this thing won't sound better or will sound worse than a xbox 360 surround sound system and they can charge 2-4 grand for these things!? haha thats not a ripoff its a freaking murder case! I am surprised the manufacturers or whoever have not been sentenced to lethal injection or perhaps the electric chair....

Roll on 2!

Oh and btw thanks alot for your response.

Couldn't put it better myself. A free bose suround system is still better than no surround. Just use it while you save up some money for something better.

I have to agree with SirDucky. Those are both good qualities with Bose, but it pretty much ends there. They also have a really high wife acceptance factor, so if that's all your wife will allow, then that's that.

I am, however, not a fan of Bose. To answer your question Joey, they can sell them for so much because marketing and name recognition. Bose has put a lot of time, money and effort into creating the Bose facade. That is, majority of their money goes to marketing. A lot of people (those without much home theater knowledge) associate Bose with high quality sound, which is exactly what Bose wants them to think when they hear the word "Bose."

I'm not going to bash someone for owning them, they don't deserve that. People will spend their money on what they want and desire, and who am I to completely ruin that for them. If they ask my opinion, I'll tell them but not in a know-it-all way.

That is a very good question in that, " how can they charge $2900-$3900 for these things?" I think that they spend so much in marketing for their products, that they literally have to charge that much. They also have very good control of their price points on their products. Not just anyone can sell their stuff.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think you are stupid or anyone else for that fact, who buys BOSE. I just think that the vast majority of the people who buy BOSE, have not taken the time to compare their products. I remember when I was a kid thinking that nothing was better than BOSE, I mean.... BOSE was just the best that you can get. Well, that is until you go out and learn some things about home theater.

One last thing, I do think they sound better than a $90 xbox 360 5.1 system. I don't think they sound much better than an Onkyo HTIB. I think the Onkyo's systems sound quit a bit better in the midrange and high frequencies. They just sound smoother, warmer, and just more satisfying. And can be had for much less.

Make sense?

Bose is a lifestyle product. As such, they are very easy to set up. They fit in very well with any relatively modern decor. They are very easy to use. You buy it, you put it in place, you do the excellent 5 point calibration, and you forget about it. Bose makes some very nice product in that regard. Additionally, they take very good care of their consumer.

uMusic is another great thing about Bose. You will not find a cooler MP3 system out there. uMusic pays attention to what you are listening to and dynamicly builds a playlist based on what tracks you skip past, or repeat or manually vote +/-. Combined with it's internal database of like tracks and artists, you find that you are only listening to stuff that you really like, with no real input or intervention of your own.

In short, Bose has nailed the user experience.

Audio quality is crap, and the product costs about 10% of it's retail price to manufacture, but these are not things that a Bose customer cares about. You really won't find an accurate opinion of Bose here either, as the Bose customer is the exact opposite of the AVSforum target market. :)

Yo guys without starting a flame war I would like to ask EVERYONE's opinion on BOSE home theater systems...

Joey,

If you really want to know what makes a Bose so special, go to an authorized Bose dealership and check out one of their wave radio displays. There should be one that allows you to pull the front casing forward, thus revelaing the "amazing" wave technology.

Sadly, this also reveals the 5-cent paper cone inside!

How can they change such high prices .........

Because there are people willing to pay what they charge. Simple as that. An uneducated (in the audio realm) consumer is their best customer.

No Highs, No Lows, That's Bose.

Just moved into this place, so I'm still trying to figure out what to do. Will eventually get a new tv/component stand and will move away from the fireplace. The cable jack is currently only on that wall. Also can't figure out if I want to wall mount the satellite speakers or get stands - maybe a mixture. I use the 5 year old laptop wifi to connect to live and to host every episode of The Office, love it. The LCD is actually a cheapo MAG brand, but IMO the HD picture is very nice. Will also eventually replace it as well.

Looking at your setup, I would get a TV stand that holds 4-6 components, get rid of the tall, relatively empty brown cabinet, and wall mount the speakers. It would be very clean looking at that point. With a 2 component wide stand, you could probably just leave those small speakers sitting on each corner of the stand instead of mounting them. That left-hand window makes mounting the left front speaker an interesting excercise. :)

Yo guys without starting a flame war I would like to ask EVERYONE's opinion on BOSE home theater systems.

NO, I am not looking into buying one nor am I looking into to buying any HT system prolly ever. I just am enjoying my new HDTV and my uncle bought a BOSE HT system and he is going to let me use his for abit while he is down here.

In a thread I made I got some responses, but it seems people really hate BOSE and I cannot get it through their head that I am not paying for one...nor is anybody...I am only using one for my HDTV.

So lets pretend all is free.

Your opinions please. Also to ensure that I have not completely wasted your time I will post some pics that were posted by a friend of mine over at teamxbox who now has the EXACT same HDTV as me and uses the same settings.

That is what it looks like on a good display device. The shadow and lighting detail when you are moving around is what makes it look the most realistic though.

Also, I actuallly looked at the reflections in the scope lens, and they are in fact reflecting what is behind you. Try it!

They are pretty good for LCD but it's no Pioneer Kuro, not by a long shot. A PDP-5010 would lay waste to this LCD, regardless of refresh rate gimmicks. And you need to see them actually working not just screens to get a real idea of the performance.
Not trying to downgrade the new LCD's but I've seen them and 120hz isn't a silver bullet, and they still have relatively poor black levels.

Not exactly, the scope shows you a reflection of relative location, for example in the beginning of that level, all ghillied up, if you go inside the shed, the scope (if i remember correctly) shows the reflection as if you were on the outside of the shed, so it is close, and extremely cool, but no cigar lol. Sony 120Hz TVs have the same feature. It interpolates frames in between the actual frames.

This is VERY BAD for gaming. Turn off frame interpolation if you are gaming. The TV will delay the display of each frame of video by at least 1/60th of a second, maybe more, if you have this turned on. It doesn't matter so much in a game of chess. But in a racing game or shooter where every split second counts, this display lag is only going to frustrate you.

Circuit City has a demo of the units with 1/2 the screen having the AMP (Auto Motion Plus) feature on and 1/2 the screen off. While it's sind of cool in a strange way, it doesn't look natural, and certainly detroys film-based materials. Most owners end up turning the feature off altogether.

They are NS series: 777, 333 and c444. I had rx-v2600 before and sound was very good with them but with 3800 and HD audio they sound amazing. I try not to think about upgrading them, for now that is.

They are not worth upgrading, SQ is top notch in music and movies (my ns-555 are) to find something a lot better than these you'll need to spend serious $$$ (IMO). Again great job on your HT.

Not really. The samung was pitted agaisnt the Top Rated Kuro and while overall the Kuro was a better HDTv they scored the exact SAME in the Detail Category. Also 120hz is in effect with AMP off...They are not entirely the same.Hard to explain. MotionFlow is a feature that a Kuro does not have and if the the motionflow is working properly(the models on display at BB and CC suck) it adds a whole new experience to movies.

Plus I still don't understand how someone can pay a minimum of $1800+ MORE than the LNTxx71F just for it to be a decently better. I mean lets be serious here....the Kuro is better, but 2 grand or more better NO....just NO.

Detail is great for taking screenshots, how a display handles motion is far more important. Processing gimmicks usually end up looking like just that; overly processed and unnatural, and the 120hz Samsungs and JVC's fall into this category. And don't forget contrast ratios/Black level performance. Nothing touches the Kuros where it counts, especially not LCD's. I've seen them all, not at BB either.

This months issue of Home Theater Magazine reviewed 7 HDTV's of various techs (LCD, OLED, RPCRT, Plasma, DLP) and the entry level 50" 720p Pioneer 5080 took the review by a long shot. I would easily put this display @ $2500 ahead of anything I've seen from LCD to date. A $4500 1080p PDP-5010 would not even be a fair comparison, as it along with the ELITE version are considered the finest flat screens available, regardless of technology, period.

I haven't been paying attention to the Pioneer Elite's lately, but do the still do 3:3 pulldown for 72hz display, switching back to 60hz for video? If so, why would anyone care about 120hz without a 120hz input?

I'd probably go with Scmedic and turn AMP off for film. There's just something about the way we've watched for so long (particularly after years of watching on a 100" screen via FP) that makes it feel unsettling to watch with AMP on. Though, for sports, I'd agree that it has potential to look very good.

I think he may be laughing at your attempt to put a dollar figure on the difference. You already admited that the Kuro looks better, therefore the dollar difference is irrelavent. We all now know that you can't personally justify spending the additional $2000 for the better image, that does not mean that it is not worth the additional $2000 to others.

Along the same lines, I see a value of $0 in an LCD for watching movies. That 120hz Samsung LCD you love so much, I would pay to have that crap removed from my house. My opinion of it does not change the fact that you enjoy it, and see $2000 more worth of value in it than I do. :)

Ya gotta admit, those are some great shots! This is getting interesting. I see more debt in my near future, but first, I need to know just which tv IS numero uno. Tv's are advancing rapidly, but the next set I get, will have to be king for the next 5 years at least. The big new feature is 120hz, but is it a big improvement (especially for gaming)? AMP-necessary? 3-D tv-any good? LED-any good? DLP's offer the biggest sizes for the cheapest prices, but isn't LCD still the best tech for games and otherwise? Just which features are must-haves? I just want a set with as many of the best features as possible. And, are there any good reasons to wait? I'll be making a trip to BB to check 'em out soon, but first I would like your opinions. Yeah Yeah Yeah. I have seen them myself. Its just a TV and I don't see a 2 grand difference. Maybe 500-700 difference though.

How about for the same $ or less?

The PDP-5080 Kuro outperforms the Sammy even at "just" 720p and can be had for roughly the same price. I can actually get them for less than $2k since the last price drop. And yes the Pio Elites and new Pio 1080p displays are quite a bit more but the margin in performance between them and new LCD's is even greater, especially after an ISF cal.

LCD stops being a good value after 32" where they win by default. But hey, you don't have to worry about IR as much, I guess.

I deal with a lot of customers coming to me fresh from their Best Buy 1080p/Blu-ray/LCD enemas, loaded to the brim with catch phrases and phoney irrelavent tech babble regurgitated from whatever clone they spoke with. One look at a state of the art plasma in the proper setting with good source material is all it takes.

With the new Kuros, Pioneer basically pulled off the equivilant of Tiger woods stepping up and smashing a 450 yard drive off the tee in a close match. Everyone else is left holding their suddenly flacid and wimpy little sticks, wondering what is the point. LCD on the other hand, is the Phil Mickelson of flat panel tech.

It's highly doubtful that ANY display from ANY manufacturer is going to sit on the throne for 5 years. Your best hope is that a current contender is good enough to survive the next 5 years without you becoming so enamored with whatever comes up that you can avoid upgraditis without too many withdrawals.

Listen very, very carefully to what the salesman tells you at Best Buy...nod your head, and repeat every word...absorb all the words intently while keeping a blank expression...then laugh in his face and walk away. (There is a chance you might get a knowledgable person though*)

So LCD has no IR worries, but you don't get as good colors (just BARELY less then a Kuro). You can however get lag in an LCD and get motion blur. Off axis is not as good as a Plasma. Other then that they are really close. You would be set for a couple years with either set. Just think about how much gaming do you do at one time without switching games, etc. If it is extreme then maybe LCD. If its not, maybe Pioneer Kuro. You also have to consider price. As pointed out, no set will be on top for 5 years. Heck, Pioneer even topped themselves with their new 9G models at CES this year. Pure blacks, 1/4" thin TV's, etc. Samsung will probably come out with a new line for their LCD that will keep them right there with the Kuro too. Just get something you like now, its the only way to do it.

Well it was the top end pioneer elite that was pitted against the 81F (which remind you many have tested that the 71f is more crisp) where although the 81 got its butt kicked overall they both scored a perfect 10 in detail.

Anyways who cares about that Kuro that most people have now that at CES I am hearing they released a new Kuro Pioneer that was shown behind closed doors. The reporters said that in a pitch black room the tv couldnt be seen when it was on and showed a completely black screen. They said that they didnt even know it was there until they fed it a video source. It is supposed to be a lot better than the current Kuro sets out today in terms of black level.

Thats why spending so much cash for the best of the best is insane. Because it won't be that way for longer than a few months.

Anyways atleast we are all happy with our HDTVs!

That's quite a bad-ass speaker setup to have such a cheesy looking silver 360 near it. :)

Oh, and back to the Sammy 120hz argument...The Kuro is a nice Plasma, no question... But for f#cks sake, can we be a little more realistic than, "I just spooged on my Kuro?".. The difference between to two sets is pretty slim when calibrated correctly, well minus that extra $2k.. The AMP feature is what makes the sports look awesome, not the 120hz..That's on at all times, you can' turn it off.. AMP predicts and interpolates frames inbetween normal frames, to smooth out fast movement.. It's a work in progress, and only offered on the top of the line sets.. I believe Sony has a similar feature that doesn't work just right either...

Kuro's are nice and all, but I don't really foresee you gaming for hours on it..

BFJ 96

If your not gonna go Rear-Projection & your use is not gaming exclusive, then I would agree that PLASMA is your next choice. If your gonna go HIGH-END get the KURO... If your on somewhat of a budget I suggest going PANASONIC..

If for some reason you do wanna go Rear-Projection & CRT is a possiblity I would jump on it. Don't worry bout burn-in because if calibrated correctly Burn-In isn't an issue. This also goes for PLASMA.

I have not seen a picture that can beat a Professionally Calibrated CRT or PLASMA when it comes to properly displaying D6500K

I would say that's a bit of a biased opinion, because burn-in concerns/complaints are all over these boards.. It has not been completely removed from Plasma tech by any means.

i must say, as much as i HATE leather sofa's, i really like this set-up. i'm a minimalist, and that room looks to be the PERFECT size for a small entertainment center, great job. the room i play in is way too big for what i use it for, but it's the only room other than my living room where i have an internet connection, and when i tried XBL via the wireless connector it was HORRIBLE...

Thanks for a honest opinion. I'm open minded so what would you sugest instead. I thought about getting 3 seat HT sofa but still in leather altho in black or dark blue. I'm not thinking about upgrading now but there is always room for improvment. If you can provide few links that would be great.

and i'm just curious, what's going in the 2 empty sleeves on the wall above the sub?

In not sure if you are asking about the wall next to it on the left. If you do, there is a laundry on the other side but in the near future I'll be getting rid of it and open up that area. When I do that it'll iprove the sound quality heaps more and I'll get more space for the back surround as well. Most likely I'll do that during the next christmass break and I'll post the pics before and after of it.

I'll never make that mistake again. 52" is the starting point.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Seems like the Samsung 5271 will be the new king. IR is still a concern, especially with all night GOW sessions. I love GOW, but I don't want Cole's ugly mug burned into the screen. If anyone can find it lower than $2199, please PM me, thanks. It seems I'm about to begin the Ramen Noodle diet.

I myself would only be able to take so much of being told "it's just a joke" and having everyone tell me how my set up looks like the entrance to Marios castle. All those posts are still here though, so i guess as long as you add a " it's just a joke" to the end of every topic where you are flaming somebody the mods will let it stay.

Nice summary bro.

I think if I had the money I would consider the Kuro. The way this samsung looks though is soooooo coool. Making movies look like video makes you feel like what you are watching is actually happening or has already happened somewhere in the world. Man its crazy cool.

And AMP does wonder for games. For anyone that has not messed with AMP on high for games too much..Do yourself a favor and rent Heavenly sword and put that sucka on high. You aint seen nothing like DIS!

Off-topic, but thats pretty lame that uptown got banned IMO. I'm partial though cause he's a fellow NY'er and a Yankees fan so..

I would agree that it sucks when people get banned and I did not even see all of what happened with Uptown but again this is the internet and sometimes we all can take things a bit too personal , I know I have on here before but the right path is to just let it go and move along (unless somebody is physically threatening you of course and then there are other methods in dealing with people that feel things need to resort to violent behavior , especially now that it is considered a federal felony to do so) . I mean should we really be insulted that people have different taste in consumer electronics , or furniture , or clothes , or anything . We all have different opinions and we all have a right to those opinions but I certainly do agree with the old addage of 'If you don't have something nice to say then don't say anything at all' . Bottom line here is not to take it as a personal insult when people comment about your A/V gear (it's just electronics not your loved ones) , none of us have set-up's that everyone on the planet is going to like . Oh and realize that most people on here mean it if they say that they are just kidding , most of the time it's just in good fun ( I did go back and see many of the posts directed at Uptown's system/room and I would agree that some of them were insulting but most were just light hearted fun and meant no harm ) . I actually liked his set-up and thought it was very original , I guess those of us that liked it should have stated so a little sooner before things got out of control .

After being here at AVS for 7 years now I have seen some really rude behavior but I can say with absolute conviction that 99.99% of the people here are very friendly and just trying to enjoy the hobby , isn't that what brings us all here to begin with .

Best Wishes ,

Well if anything that is a testament of how great of a site AVS is , I know I would be pretty bummed if I got banned . Please no more speculation and no more discussion , let's let it go and move on so that the thread can get back on track and we can all enjoy it :D .

Ace Combat VI is absolutely jaw-droppingly, over-the-top amazing. I saw the ad in Playboy that had 4 pics where it said, "One of these images is real, the other 3 are the game. Pick the real one." None of my firends got it right. I only got it correct because I'd played it already and didn't recognize the real shot.

Thanks , the red couch comment from smithfarmer was a joke because there was another 'redish' couch in this thread that people were poking fun at a while back ;) . This couch is something that my wife saw and just had to have it , when it ends up in the dedicated HT (bat cave) then it won't look so out of place . But yeah we like it , it's very modern looking as the whole couch is rounded everywhere . I really wanted the full leather sectional with the built in dual recliners but she had to have this red couch and I like to see her happy . Honestly no pictures seem to truly capture the correct color of this couch , they all either come out way too red or very faded , it is an odd red tone (not very common) , in a darker room it almost looks like a burgandy color . There are some other redish accents behind where the picture does not show , we have some framed movie posters that have the same red tones in them . I was considering doing the valance to cover the screen case in a similar color but cannot make up my mind to match the couch or match the black velvet drapes .

I am running an ISF'd Mitsubishi HC3000u DLP , screen is a 120" DaLite HiPower model C , Denon 887 7.1 receiver , Boston Acoustics VR series speakers (7 channel) , CV 15" powered sub (.1) , Belkin PureAV power center , Toshiba A3 HD DVD player , Yamaha SACD/DVD-Audio player , Sony PS3 , Xbox 360 , Nintendo Wii .

Yeah there is nothing like a projector , I have other HDtv's and they all pale in comparison to the experience of watching HD movies at home on a 120" screen ( I could never go back to only viewing on a TV , even those 73" monster HDtv's from Mitsubishi are no comparison) . Which is not to say that I wouldn't luv to own a Pio Kuro or 71 series Sammy but at those prices , for something in the 60" range , I can buy a kick a$$ 1080p front projector and an even bigger screen :D .

I'd probably go with a black valance to cover the screen housing. I know i wouldnt want any colors close to my screen to distract me, but thats just me. do you have anything behind the screen when it is up or do you leave it down all the time. I built my 1st screen out of a thinn sheet of mdf and wood border and loved the experience. there are tons of threads going here that got me into the project and i loved the experience; it was very rewarding. but as i didnt have a dedicated theatre room, the screen kind of took up too much of basement space that i am in, and i didnt want that, so i went with a retractable. It does its job but i notice rolls occurring in the material. eh, what can you do? its remote controlled motorized and does its job and doesn't detract from the room when not in use and was only 175bills from ebay ;)

When I took my photos of COD4, since it has no video playback and pausing the game makes the screen go dark, I set the camera (Nikon D80) up on a tripod behind me. I set everything up (exposure, etc...) and then used my IR remote trigger to take the pictures while I was playing the game. :)

its actually quite hard to take a decent photo of a tv displaying an image and have it look good. so if it looks fantastic here, it can be breathtaking in person. of course because the image is so much smaller it also hides imperfections that you might notice in person. I am still floored by how incredible some people's pics come out though.

I am glad you guys brought up the issue of PQ compared when seeing it IRL or just through a picture. TAPOUT takes great pictures no doubt, but I can tell you that in person the HDTV looks about 30% better maybe more.

Yeah it will probably be the black velvet valance once I can find it , the screen has a good deal of drop on it though so any dark color would fade into the blackness once the lights are out ;) . There is nothing behind the screen but a painted wall (we leave it down 24/7) . I was going to hang the screen out a bit and put our LCD flat panel behind it but that was not happening with the current PJ as I could not get enough throw/zoom to fill the 120" screen . One of the better features of the DaLite HiPower material is that once the light hits it you do not see any waves at all , they vanish (and yeah mine does have some waves in it) .

is that the original look of the room or did you guys renovate? technically that would be considered a family room?

It is the original room other than paint work and it is a family/living room .

wow man. very sweat setup. isf callibrated hc3000? damn. so is the proj calibrated individually for each source (ps3, 360, wii, hddvd)?

Yes, each source has it's own calibration set in the memory .

I hear you. does gaming at that size get you sick ever? I know i've turned a couple weak stomachs that came over to play burnout or halo on the big screen. ;)

Yes I have been slightly sick several times from playing , only with certain shooters though . The last game that made me really sick was Doom3 , could not play that one for more than about 15-20 minutes at a time . Burnout and Halo don't bother me a bit though .

very cool

Thanks ;)

I have only noticed jaggies not seen in pics once....thats on NBA 2K8. As I hear though NBA 2K8 just has jaggies like that. Hopefully next year they will clear that up. Less jaggies makes things more real.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the better the TV the more faults it will show in the picture? There is no denying Halo 3 is full of jaggies!

"Correct me if I'm wrong but the better the TV the more faults it will show in the picture?"

The other way to think is that a good TV will show you what is actually in the signal, instead of a processed aproximation of said signal. :) While Halo 3 is full of aliasing, the even lower resolution Call Of Duty 4 is not. Alot of that is simple art direction of color palet choices.

Hmm well you may not be completely wrong then... I played with my TV settings as per what others have found good with this particular TV and wow what a difference. When I sit farther back from my normal 3-4 ft playing games I notice hardly any jaggies. I also figured out I had my TV on STRETCH mode instead of Dot by Dot. This messed with things making them look blurrier and more jaggies. Wow now I want to make things look even better by properly calibrating it but I dont know how ?!

As you guys know I own a 46" LCD and I am looking for a stylish way of setting it and my components(360,PS3,receiver...etc) up. I want something that will have my TV standing just as high above the ground as in this picture here. Don't mind the mess. I have it set up differently and my PS3 and 360 are also on stands now.

http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x235/TheLastName/Personal/yessuh037.jpg

As I was saying something that has my TV that high above the ground and has a MINIMUM of 3 shelves going neatly straight up. Something like this below only at the top a shelf to stand my TV.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=4254988&type=product&id=1051384792286

Can you guys give me some ideas. I want to be a wire management ninja and have this stuff looking a whole lot more neat. even though I have already made lots of adjustments. if I am gonna have a HD receiver and then a bose HT system I gotta make things neat and make some room in a stylish way.

Suggestions? and pictures if possible. Remember going for clean and sexy.

Also what do you guys think of wall mounting and what would be the best (black...has to match) wall mount for my room. That way I could just use a simble 3 or 4 shelf media center thingy or whatever for my components. Btw guys how do you make it so it looks like there are NO cables connected to your tv when its wall mounted? that would be so neat if I could do that.

EDIT: I don't use that quilt anymore so don't make fun of the roses. I got a Bedset that matches with the TV.

The most important factor in my decision is size, so, I'm upgrading to the HL-T6187s. But these pics will always be on my mind.....unless the 6187 surprises the hell out of me. 120hz is a nice feature also (especially for gaming and sports), but all of the tech talk about blacks I never understood. No, I want to have it done professionally as I hear great things from this set once done. I have made some convergence adjustments on the HDMI input using Hnet's test pattern but that is it. The 360 is hooked up via component so I have not made any service menu adjustments on that input. Is something looking off? I was hoping for some input good or bad after I posted my pics but so far your it.

Spyder, can you buy that in stores? Or something similar?

Avia might be available in some B&M stores like Best Buy, but I've never looked for it there, as they would likely mark it up to 3X normal price. More likely, they won't sell it, as they want to charge you $150+ to "calibrate" your TV themselves. You can get it on trustworthy sites like Amazon for around $30.

If that's too much, you can use the THX Optimizer on discs like The Incredibles, though the quality of these "calibrators" can vary to some degree. Nowhere near as thorough, but better than nothing.

Items "similar" to Avia? Lots out there, but...

Only thing I noticed so far is vapors. I have not seen TBE...ever.

TBE is very overrated and ppl fail to see that ALL issues regarding this flat panel are ONLY EVER noticed through the use of AMP. with my HDTv with firmware 1009 I have never noticed TBE and I always have AMP on high for everything. I don't have a HD-DVd player though. Just a PS3 with blu-ray.

The ONLy source where I have turned AMP off is when watching SD content via regular cable.

The kit from Ikea does plug into the wall .

What I cannot understand (and no offense to anyone that uses them as it is certainly your right to do so) is why would you want glowing LED's in an HT setting . I mean they obviously will not be in use while watching anything (am I over analyzing it) , is it simply to look cool when everything is not in use ? It just reminds me of having to have a blacklight in my bedroom when I was a kid . I mean to me KCWolfPck's system looks fantastic all on its own and the LED's sort of lessen the look of what is a very nice system . Again I mean no offense , just grasping the logic behind the LED's , but then I guess there does not need to be any logic because it's all about personal choice :) .

* I do have to admit that I like the all Blue however , it makes for a nice picture ;) *

** Oh I guess I did not consider that it could be used as mood lighting , that makes perfect sense **

DaGamePimp.....you're right, they wouldn't be used during viewing. I like to do a lot of audio listening and the effect of having the LEDs slowly fade to different colors is pretty relaxing and does add a lot to the mood and the enjoyment of listening. Yeah...they aren't necessary, but I think they are cool. Especially w/ Martin Logans as the backlight accents the speaker's transparency. They certainly aren't for everyone.

On the contrary, I think it probably looks more expensive then it really is.

meh.....im not feeling the theater room from scaesare.

Obviously hard to tell from a simple picture, but it just looks kind of.....low budget.

Wow.

Generally people have been positive about it. I know it's not the most tricked out theater around, but I thought the room turned out pretty good, considering my $1800 budget (not including furniture or equipment).

But I apprecate the feedback.

I guess everybody here really hates red seats, huh.

antwon412, do you have sme suggestions for what maybe i could do with the black front you mentioned and maybe what I could to to make the red seats not stand out too much?

whatever man. I spent more then that on my setup.

I dont have any pics right now but i can get some.

I have a samsung 32" 720p and a bose soundwave right below it. And at night I use some tritton x3 wireless headphones. It looks and sounds amazing.

I guess you have a projector. I know that they pretty much pale in comparison compared to an LCD. And for only $1800, it must be maybe only a 480p unit.

If you want, Pm me, and maybe I can get you some tips on how to upgrade your equpment a little bit. You can usually get some real high end stuff from Best BUy for a decent price. You might want to check them out.

Duuuur thats what he spent on the room. If you look at the top left corner of the picture you can see a 1080p SXRD projector hanging from the ceiling, which throws a MUCH better and bigger picture than anything you have I bet.

Oh sorry. I typo'ed that. It was $18K for that room (not $1800). That was for construction and treatment. Budget for the whole basement including the game/bar area, gym, bathroom, and "lab" area... plus all the equipment was quite a bit more than that, but honestly I don't even want to post it, because I don't think it's about the amount spent. I've seen some GREAT setups I'd love to have, that were done on really modest budgets. It's all about what you love.

I really hope you enjoy your Samsung 32" and Bose setup.

Pharcyde23, i dont know if they are owned by BB or what, but in the one we have here locally, there is a room inside the main store that says magnolia home theater on it. And the guys who work there all have different uniforms on. they must lease out the building space or something.

They have all sorts of stuff there. mostly the real big tvs, like the ones where the light shines from behind them. but they have a sony projector there too. they have it in the same room as that $14k tv i mentioned, and it looks horrible compared to the lcd. super washed out.

thats why i mentioned to scaesare about the store. I don't know the guy or what he knows, but maybe he walked in not knowing much, and a salesmen was able to sell him something low end but told him it was real good. I mean for what he spent, he probably could have gotten a real big 1080i plasma or something.

I did design, and then I hired out framing/cabinetry and drywall.

I did the rest myself: rough in plumbing, rough electrical, tile, laminate floor, HVAC, low voltage, finish electrical, equipment installation, DIY screen, finish plumbing, paint, room treatment, and projector mounting.
