I had the same concern but picked it up anyway. It really doesn't look bad and unless your up very close you do not really notice the white. I will try to post some pics tonight when I get home from work.

Hey, Frank - I'm assuming you're happy with your skin? Any problems applying it? Is the only white peaking out at the vent holes.

Looks very nice in the pic - I'm kind of afraid that it might look a little cheesy, but I like the way yours turned out.

The skins were very easy to apply. It sticks to the plastic, but its not permanent. Its easy to remove and reapply if you do not have it lined up correctly. The skins do not cover the vents. But go all the way to the endges and is quite durable.

I am about to pull the trigger on the SXRD...but in that 3rd pic I see some serious ghosting....is just my eyes or something the camera caught or what?

BTW...why are you running in 1080i? I thought the SXRD takes 720p/1080i and upconverts to 1080p???

Sorry for speaking out of turn, and someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the SXRD is a fixed pixel display that displays everything at 1080p (1920x1080).

The rendering of the Xbox 360 is 720p for most games and I believe has the ability to do 1080i if the software allows, but can output either 720p or 1080i resolutions depending on what resolution is selected in the video menu. The Xbox 360 cannot output 1080p.

When talking about the resolution of HD sets, remember that there are two resolutions: the source resolution and the display resolution. The display resolution can be variable, like with analog CRT or multisynch monitors, or fixed like LCD, DLP, etc. For the later, any input (standard def, 480p, 720p, 1080i, etc.) gets converted to fixed resolution.

So in the case of the SXRD, all source resolutions (480i, 720p, 1080i and more) is displayed at 1080p.

No skins, only using the silver faceplate. BTW how do you guys post the higher resolution pics? I had to down rez to 640x480 and attach.

I think he is more proud of his system than arrogant. He even admitted that there would be better systems than his. The thing is, you don't have to be ultra rich to have a top 10% audiophile/videophile system in terms of quality. It doesn't always scale linearly. For example, I visited some boutique audio brand displays at CES - particularly McIntosh comes to my mind immediately, as shown below. The setup had a bazillion watts of power and more than a hundred drivers in total in ceiling high towers, running off of some uber audio source.. When the audio started playing, I instantaneously felt that it 'sucked' (pun intended). For all the 'price-no-bar' gadgetry in that hall, it did not give me the same feeling as when I was listening to my favorite SACD on B&W floorstanding speakers powered by a humble Denon receiver and a run-of-the-mill Sony SACD player. Sure, the McIntosh setup would blow away my humble reference setup in terms of price, but in terms of quality?? Not to the same extent.

The only thing people can compare in home theatre systems is pricetag. Performance and Experience are entirely subjective. Is the $5000 sony TV better than the $1500 Brand-X version? Are $2000-each speakers better than $200-each speakers?

As everyone here knows, price isn't always an indicator of performance and quality.
SEE: BOSE, SONY, etc.

In our boys theatre a tweaked HS51 is nice, but if I recally correctly alot of people hate the HS51 because its got the worst screendoor of the bunch, and its a fairly dim projector.

So he thinks its the best, others will think its junk...I've got a H31 480p DLP and a Marantz/Paradigm audio setup. I'm totally happy and satisfied, my only potential upgrade will be to a 720p DLP...but even then, its not a necessity...it would just be a nice thing to have.

Wow, do you really think, money is all that makes a system??? Its "proper" setup that makes a huge difference. They may have there $200,000 speakers $40,000.00 Projectors. $500,000 worth of video and audio transports. Does it all relate to that much better performace or a better system? Most of them just have the money and say get it all setup and looking Hott. Some really don't care about greyscale tracking, Color Accracy. Or for speakers proper soundstage, or a feel for the music.

You should really look around you town for Super High End audio Stores, and go see for yourself. I know someone that has a $400,000.00 setup, and still thinks my MUCH smaller setup is better. He uber rich, and is unbias. So $400,000 to him is nothing.

Theres also a think called diminishing return. Is the Denon 3805 at $1000.00 really 6 time worse then the $6000.00 Denon 5805? Nope. the 3805 is about 95% of the sonic performance. and what are you are getting just the extra $$$. HDMI switching, 22.1 channel amplification. So on and so forth. AVS is full of very aware people, but also alot of misinformed people.

Also A very simple and effective DAC - makes the sonic performance of a system better then any receiver out on the market today.

But when at others peoples house who aren't as anal as me, I think we can have a little more fun. I think mostly because I don't like food around my Xbox 360 controllers, and remote controls.

I never said money makes the system either, but when people are showing home theaters that took them months or years to do, or even the people that do have some money to spend on a dedicated home theater, never say look at my totally awesome %10 avs system! If it was said just playing around that is fine but I, AS IN ME/MYSELF/AND I, think that if you are lucky enough to have a nice setup then you should not overly pat yourself on the back about it or claim something ridiculous as having one of the top systems on a forum full of thousands of people. Nothing personal against anyone, just a way I feel about "luxury" items in general. You have a nicer setup than I will ever have, and I respect you for that, but the claim that yours is better than anyone elses kind of killed the respect for me. Back to my bottom %1 setup :(

Hehe.. lighten up dude !! I'll let you in on a secret !! I don't even have a setup to begin with (having just started out on my first job out of school).

My surround sound system is the TruSurround output out of my Sony KV30XBR910.. :D . However I have been fortunate to hear some really musical setups at enthusiast meets, and in my bro's house (the B&W setup I mentioned earlier). No need to feel bad when someone says they have a top 10% AV-phile setup (however debatable that claim might be). My time will come one day.

Hehe well I meant no offense but since many other comments have followed I will explain what I meant . I was not actually just talking about Image & Sound quality (which is still always a debatable subject , for example ... I have seen a calibrated HS51 and I was not impressed by the image) . I was talking more about the set-up itself ( look , design , etc. ) , which makes sense to me since you were basically showing a picture of your set-up when you commented that 'you win' and not a screenshot of the 360 in action (like most others here were doing) .

Nothing wrong with being proud of your HT system but I do have to agree that you sounded a bit cocky by making that 'win' comment ( I too thought you were joking ... :confused: ) .

As I said before I mean no offense here but it sounds like you might have offended some people with the 'win' comment as there is no contest going on here IMO .

The blur or ghost is the camera. It is damn hard to capture good images of the games in true action. I am not capturing things within game, I am capturing externally with the camera. Lights down, TV in its normal mode, the Canon PowerShot on a tripod with the flash off and its exposure time at the minimal speed it can handle and still get a decent picture. Anyway, it's not the SXRD.

And someone else addressed it, but I will confirm, that SXRD displays in 1080p but Xbox 360 puts out at 1080i. So, call it what you will, but I go by the source. If the source is 1080i, then I say, you're looking at 1080i.

OK, so others have also asked for more shots of games. What games do people want to see? I don't have them all, but I have several titles and demos. Anybody want to see the Full Auto demo? I will put them up on Saturday night... :cool:

My TV is a 26" Sony LCD HDTV model KLV-V26XBR1
I've only had this TV for about 1 week, so obviously I'm still doing a lot of tweaking and experimentation with VGA vs. Component

So here goes. More screenshots to follow later. Trying to find the some great settings which are appropritiate for night driving in all four main PGR3 cities.

Nice, I'm diggin that Denon. Clean theatres always strike me as the most visually pleasing, simple contrast..black and white and silver. People get into the red velvets and I kinda start to wonder "Is it a Theatre, or a Funeral Home?".

Yeah, I second that. I have a theory that the men that find Paris Hilton hot are guys who are closet homosexuals, she looks alot more like a teenage boy than a girl ;)

The old ones appeal to us late 20, early 30-somethings who had the originals and Transformers/GI Joe afternoon cartoons. YO JOE!

I have a 46" Samsung DLP and it has excellent pq. In some ways better then my Panasonic AE900 but I still perfer the PJ due to the bigger screen. Over all I'd say the Samsung does a great job with anything I've thrown at it I've played ps2, xbox, x-box 360 and my PC (with both VGA and DVI inputs) on it with no complaints.

It's always hard to tell scale in pics, but the Coffe Table looked real close to the equipment rack, which made it look like the seating was closer than it must be.

Maybe it's just a really Large Coffe table.

I actually think that the 360 has really good ventillation where it is. Since there is no exhaust grill on either of the components to each side of it, and since it has about 2 inches of clearance on each side, I feel like it's getting plenty of cool air.

As for stacking the other components right on top of each other, I completely agree :( , but I have yet to find a solution that appeases both myself and my wife....heck, getting an HDTV in the first place that wouldn't fit into a cabinet was an enormous step. I'm definatly going to replace it when I find the right piece. But until then, I'll look into seperating the components somehow. Thanks :) .

For ventilation of my "stack" I use foam bricks that I have cut up then put inbetween my components. For my receiver I use four old video tapes on each side, which we taped together to form a long "brick" then wrapped with book covers to hide the fact that they were VHS tapes. It provides a good 7" of ventililation above my receiver. Due to the way my receiver is constructed there is a non-vented section in the back left of the receiver so that is where my 360 brick sits. I'll have to take some pictures and post them..

Dreamcast...nice! Interesting that the Dreamcast operating system is made by none other than Microsoft!! (Windows CE)

This is probably a contributing factor to their decision that prompted them to jump into the console market.

You've got the Dreamcast still front and center I see :D Long live that under rated little dream machine (still has games coming out for it in Japan believe it or not ;) ). Had to comment as I'm glad to see i'm not the only one still hanging on and playing with Sega's last gaming machine. Real shame it didn't do better as it deserved to.

I have a 46" Samsung DLP and it has excellent pq. In some ways better then my Panasonic AE900 but I still perfer the PJ due to the bigger screen. Over all I'd say the Samsung does a great job with anything I've thrown at it I've played ps2, xbox, x-box 360 and my PC (with both VGA and DVI inputs) on it with no complaints.

Nearly all digital cameras suffer from slow shutter speeds when you manually turn off the flash. You need a tripod or a surface to rest the camera on.

For truly perfect pics, pause the game and let the camera shoot on its timer..so set it for 2 seconds or 10.....even touching the camera to depress the button can cause blurring.

While you can put the camera in a faster ISO speed, say, ISO 400...you're going to get a very, very grainy picture as a result.

Just put the camera down on a tripod or a surface like a table, a stack of books, a book on your couch, etc....and snap the pic that way without the flash and you'll be good to go.

This pretty much plagues all digital cameras......

If anyone else can offer any input or pics of the Xbox360 running on a Samsung I would appreciate it. All the set-ups are off da hook by the way people. Once I have mine set up will post some pics

Here are a couple I've taken in my room in camp where I have the Sammy DLP. I took the 1st one with the light on and the 2nd one with the light off and used the flash - sorry they are not to great but I'm not a photographer ;)
I used Geo. Wars evolved to show the blacks as that always seems to be the strong point when compared against LCD's.

Taking photos of DOA 4 on a digital unless it's a higher end model like a canon rebel is a real pain. I've posted some in the DOA 4 thread but it took me about 20 shots to get 2 that were decent. (I was using a Canon A75 not the best for that fast moving game).
Best time I found to cut down on blurring is at the beginning and end of the matches.

That is how I pulled the still shots from my TV. Without the freeze button there is no way I could have captured a decent quality picture.

Curtis -- back of the couch is about 11 feet from the screen, so eyes are about 10 feet or so from the screen.

YoungC55 -- got the hot wife. alas, I drive an F-150 Supercrew.

Here's a couple of shots of the back of the room. The fold-up card table/poker table will be eventually replaced by a real poker table. Built-in bookcases to go around the window and built-in cabinets/wetbar to go near the poker table where the fridge/microwave/skybox currently are. The halfwall between the upper and lower half will get a cap so you can pull the poker chairs up to it as a second row of seating.

I've found my Mitsubishi VERY adept at producing a picture bright enough to enjoy. At 62" it's not small. Front row sits no more than 8.8' away. It's like sitting in the Imax!

You know, it's amazing I never thought of it that way, (because I'm a HUGE Star Trek fan), but now that you mention it, yes, that's a pretty good description. The blue 'glow' through out the room is actually a hair brighter than what the the camera shows, so if someone had to get up in the middle of the movie (for a bathroom break) it would be a bit easier.

I really like the room. At first I only saw the dark pics with the blue light, and then I scrolled up the page and saw the room illuminated. I was golf clapping at work.....seriously.... :p

Front projectors are great for people with dedicated theaters buried in their basement under the house, or in some attic with no windows.

This room has the equivalent of 7 windows. To block out all that light is to drasticlly alter the decor of the room. This room is not in the basement, nor is it neatly tucked away in some hidden bonus room/attic room. This room is the formal greatroom and central location of the house. Great thought has to be placed into the 'decor/ambiance' of the room, as much as the 'technology' of the room. Given the decorative concessions that must be made, the DLP is THE BEST over-all choice for the money.

Of coarse a 62" 1080p plasma would have been better, (if they even make such a thing), but then your looking at a tv priced 3 times more than that DLP I have.

IMO the 62" DLP was the best choice for my application.

When someone puts out a 60" plasma with a contrast ratio of at least 6000:1 and a resolution of at least 4320p, for $3,500. then I' might upgrade to that. And believe me, with the rate at which this technology evolves, it wont be long.

You could easily do a projector and a nice motorized drop down screen that blends right into the ceiling for under 2 grand and use it strictly for tv/movies/gaming after the sun goes down. Something to think about.

Hehehe I know, and I agree...a FP isn't for everyone due to lighting conditions.

I think you might be surprised with what a high gain screen and a decent projector could do for that room. Looks like you've already got blinds in place for the windows. All you need is a pull down screen for movie night. leave the tv for the day time stuff. Very nice room though, and I am also looking at getting that type of light, gorgeous.

It looks like the crown molding is 5" or 6" in height and is mounted about 2" below the ceiling. It may be a specific kind of rope light intended just for use with crown molding. I think it definitly looks cool and want to install something like it in my house.

that 360 looks like a heat-trap. any overheating problems? however, it did seem to me like it runs cooler on its side

The side cabinets off to the left and the right. 360 is in the right cabinet. When I have it in the room. Otherwise I use it on my main system in the Living room.

IMHO that face plate is incredibly ugly

i think i've learned two valuable things from these pics

1. 720p-set would be a significant improvement from my 4805
2. i would never be willing to lose contrast and black-levels for 720p

Here's my setup. 100" screen, Sharp XV-Z2000 projector, 7.1 surround through a B&K Ref 50, NHT Speakers and an SVS sub (plus bass shakers in the couch). The room is a remodeled attic that is not complete yet, but I just had to put the system in for the NFL playoffs. The room shot is with a very wide angle lens, so it is a bit distorted.

Well, we all have our own tastes. Keep in mind the front row is a mere 8.5' from a fricken HUGE 62" DLP. A DLP that has a good brightness level. I've already addressed the daylight issue in the room, (yes I watch tv, moves, play games during the day time, and at night too). The room is extremly bright during daylight hours, even with all the blinds closed. (I'm currently looking at putting some drapes/shades on that back wall). This Great Room is also my 'formal living room' so I'd rather not go for a hard core theater look. As far as the snuggling goes, well, your right. Having individual seats has saved me for the 'forced snuggle' bit. But if we want to snuggle, there's that nice burgandy Burkline sofa in the back of the room. We just lay back there on that sofa, snuggle, and listen to a DVD-A (Pink Floyd?), with the lights down low. :p

I'm guessing he just didn't install it tight to the roof in order to leave enough room for the rope light.

Not christmas lights, but not real fancy expensive either. There is one strand of clear, one strand of blue. Because of the length involved I could not get the 'flashing/chasing' module. I think total light cost was around $500.? About $200.00 for each strand (X2 strands) and then another $100. for miscellaneous clips and so on.

TVs that were $2500-3500 are now $1800-2500, which is great. I am still going to hold out this year and wait for a nice $3500 1080p set, hopefully the prices will be around there by xmas.

Indeed, BB had a 50" DLP for $1700 or so, the same set was $2499 when I bought my Plasma two months ago. In a year or two more large screen HD sets will be at the price point that anyone (well almost) can buy one.

Could you be a bit more specific on the type of light kit you used and type of crown molding ? It really is nice and I'm trying to figure out if it would be possible to do the same in my home. I've did some searches on the light kits and have a few in mind, but I'm having difficulties trying to find crown molding that is intended for use with rope lighting.

My friend came over to take those pics. He has a much nicer camera than I. And a tripod. :) Yes, we had to cheat in order to get everything decently lit without having to use a flash. Both shots are "double exposures". First we turned on all the lights, turned off the TV, and took a pic. Then without moving the camera, we turned back on the TV and took another picture. I turned some lights off for that second shot, just to make sure there was no glare on the screen, but that probably wasn't necessary. Finally, my friend (in Photoshop) took the picture from the the unlit shot, and pasted it onto the lit shot. Whew! Why bother? Well, the TV is so bright that when it was on it caused the camera to underexpose everything else in the picture. It's easy to get a picture of what's on the screen, but hard to see anything else...

press the guide button, the go to personal settings, then click on themes, you can change it around in there, whether you do a custom theme or one of the preloaded ones

Open the picture in whatever software you have, save it as an 800x600 or 1024x768 resolution as a JPEG and it should fit well under the limit here.

Won't that cause the picture quality to go down? I'm trying to give as good as pic as some of these other guys who posted here. And it still won't paste to my text.

There's two ways to post a picture:

1) Someone has dropped the overall resolution down to acceptable levels for posting in the thread and now AVS is hosting the physical jpeg file.

2) Someone has hosted the pictures offline somewhere and is using the image tag to link to that external file, which can be as big as you want it to be. That frees up space on the AVS server but uses more bandwidth on both this site and the hosting site since every time the page is viewed the server hosting the image is "hit" to retreive the image.

Thanks for the compliments folks. I changed my blades by downloading a theme as suggested. The stand is a BDI Avion. The speakers are the Definitive Tech Mythos. They are awesome, with a very high WAF.

Yes its the ferrari f430 it seems most of the ferraris have the most details interiors of all cars.

Here is my setup. I originally bought the 360, used it in my home theatre (110" Firehawk/Infocus 7200). I sold it after a month to purchase a new tv for the upstairs. I got such a great deal on my new Sony XBR960 and the picture just screamed out for the Xbox, that I repurchased it.

I also bought the KEF KIT-100 (a 4.1 system) to assist in the audio department. I got an incredible buy on the system ($396 from Ultimate Electronics--$1500 retail).

I zoomed in the pic and couldn't see any slits on the top to vent whatever that is... I've got the Motorola through TWC and mine also gets hot enough to cook off of......

thats a direct tv hd receiver under the 360. it doesnt seem to get very hot at all. i may need to figure another way to set it all up. as you can see, i dont have many options. any suggestions. BTW, the tv is a sony vega plasma. i believe the model is kde37xs955. i wasnt looking for a plasma really but got it for $2k(long story) and i thought that was too cheap to pass up, this was last july.

All kidding aside, I've been working at Best Buy for 3 years now putting in 25 hrs a week during school specifically to feed my home theater addiction. As I think most of you fellow AVSers know, once the bug bites you, it's all over for your wallet. Unfortunately my desired equipment goes a few steps beyond what you find at your local BB, so my discount has been of no help (except of course for DVDs and games... REALLY wish we had some mini-Magnolias here in Michigan), but luckily the guys at my local specialty shop have treated me well. If you keep saving up and adding components piecemeal over a 4 year period it's not that tough to assemble a respectable system. Hopefully after law school I'll be able to start splurging on even more fantastic stuff. There are thousands of highly enviable systems showcased on this site... lots to aspire to. Happy gaming all.

My hats off to you, I am in school and am a corporate account major and I barely have enough time to finish my school work let alone work a job....I know how that feeling is and my g/f hates it but I dont see her complaining when she is playing call of duty and she hears bullets passing by her ears haha....Id like to upgrade to a nicer home theater set my satellites are fine but I would like to get another subwoofer....But I am in the process of remodeling my room and purchasing a new furniture set saving up for vacation and working on getting a ring to propose to my g/f so my money is tied up...

Jeff--nice setup. I really like the look of those JVCs. They look pretty sharp at all the stores I see them in, but how does it size up once you get it home. I've heard some negative things about them (just like any and every other tv). Just curious.

ALSO--can someone tell them, I have 7-8ft viewing distance. Would a 50" be too big? Or should I stick with a 42"? Please let me know. Thanks

celluloideyes, thanks. I like my JVC, but as you said some have had problems. I had read about much of the problems and complaints and still bought the TV. When I was shopping for a TV (August last year) I could find a reason not to buy each technology and each brand. If your serious about the JVCs, read the appropriate owners thread but take that info for what it's worth. The one for my model is http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=528179.

As far as viewing distance I sit about 9' from my 56" TV and it's just fine. Not sure I could get away with the 61" 720p, but a 1080p might work.

Sony SXRDs (nice TV's but not available in black) and 1080p JVCs were not available when I bought my TV. If I was in the market for the same solution today I would have to strongly consider the higher resolution models.

Just lovely, how much for the projector and what brand?

The projector is an InFoucs Screenplay 7205 (using the HD2+ chipset). At the time it was pretty expensive but nowadays I beleive it's 2999 MRSP. not sure though.

Infoucs just came out with a whole new line of projetcors... which means that this one could be had for a good price I suspect.

Does Directv's mpeg-4 HD DVR allow you to record two shows while watching something you previously recorded? Also is there a release date yet for it?

It's nice setup, in fact, it looked great; except,it would be nice to get a bigger tv to fill out the space at lft and rgt hand side. :)

I actually thought about that. My apartment is pretty small though & I'll be sitting about 9'-10' away from the set. If I take the center channel & put it on top of the TV or in front of it, I could bring in the center column in a bit. The Infinity center channel is 30 3/4" wide. My only problem is should I leave that shelf empty or remove the shelf?

ALSO--can someone tell them, I have 7-8ft viewing distance. Would a 50" be too big? Or should I stick with a 42"? Please let me know. I sit about 7' max from a 50" screen, and it just seems so small now (I've had the TV for over three years). I am looking to upgrade to a 60" 1080p by the end of the year if finances allow.

I made a new version. I moved the Pure AV from the bottom left to the top middle shelf. That allowed me to squeeze the columns tighter. I'm a little worried about overheating because of how much space some components are at. For example, The directv receiver, the Denon, & the Pure AV have approximately 1/2" of space on each side. I got rid of the middle shelf for easy access to the back of the denon plus more ventilation space. The other shelves have approximately 3" of space above for all the components except for the Denon. I don't plan on putting glass doors in front.

Behind each component is a cutout for cabling & ventilation. The only difference is that I made separate openings behind the Denon to keep track of the wires. I even put smaller holes for each speaker wire.

I also made a variation of the setup where the top board has about the same amount of space as on the sides of the TV. The board on setup_2 is flush with the top of the TV.

Do you guys think that the PureAV is overkill? That one is priced at $750. The only reason I chose it over the cheaper ones is that it has Phase 6 PureFilter Circuitry which I have no clue what that is compared to the Phase 4 & lower versions. Little help here.

I actually like that he put it in front of his bedroom windows. I hope you have another emergency exit in case of fire. I'd hate for you to have to knock that over to escape.

I have a hd front projector down stairs and have yet to try out the 360 on the 8 foot screen......I want to wait and get another 360 downstairs so I dont have to keep moving it around..........no Im not rich . I just dont go to the bars waist of money, same with casinos..........cheers.

if there is a fire I will get out no problem....you cant see it in the picture but the windows on the sides of the tv are not blocked and can open and close no problem......its the only place in the room I could put the beast.........cheers....

As you can see I'm old school and have a hard time letting my old consoles go. I still play 'em when I want to show the kids how far video games have come in the past 20+ years. One of these days I'll get one of these larger sets you guys have but I'd like to start out small. This was my first LCD TV and my first HD Ready set as well.

nothing wrong with old school as long as you can get them to work. I use an emulator instead to play all old school games on my computer connected to my tv. Nice setup though. what is your 360 sitting on?

A Vantec notebook cooler. Can't remember which one though. I think it is the LapCool 2.

Excuse the blurry picture. My vision for a home theater is a work in process. And a slow one, at that. The wife is having me buy furniture as well, so... The next step is to get a nice television stand. Can't be glass, wife restrictions. So naturally, it's going to cost more. Then I will upgrade the receiver, the speakers, and more fun components!

Would those shelves have any problem holding a 35lb Yamaha receiver? I know my Sonax has thick glass shelves...and I have been looking to add another rack to my system.
