Standoff is the multiplayer map that is being used, which looks VERY good, far better than other parts of Halo 3.

Heres a couple more I had taken of in game. XBR really has accomplished some impressive black levels for an LCD. Only wish I had a camera to do it justice lol.

Ha!
ya man, mine do as well, I have just positioned them away from the wall, and not near the center, and while they get warm, they dont damage or heat anything up around it.
Although in VA a couple nights ago it hit about 5 degrees without the wind chill, so im not minding the little heat the lamps generate :D

ya...wow that looks amazing
The kit from Ikea does plug into the wall .
What I cannot understand (and no offense to anyone that uses them as it is certainly your right to do so) is why would you want glowing LED's in an HT setting . I mean they obviously will not be in use while watching anything (am I over analyzing it) , is it simply to look cool when everything is not in use ? It just reminds me of having to have a blacklight in my bedroom when I was a kid . I mean to me KCWolfPck's system looks fantastic all on its own and the LED's sort of lessen the look of what is a very nice system . Again I mean no offense , just grasping the logic behind the LED's , but then I guess there does not need to be any logic because it's all about personal choice :) .
* I do have to admit that I like the all Blue however , it makes for a nice picture ;) *
** Oh I guess I did not consider that it could be used as mood lighting , that makes perfect sense **
--- Jason
To me it;s like ambient lighting and Yes I think it looks cool. I intend to have it on for certain movies that have an overall color tone, for example red or orangeish when watching 300, kinda extends the screen out to you and I think may be a bit more immersive.

Thanks for the comments. I take much more pride in how my system sounds than how it looks. Of course, that can't be portrayed over the internet, so I'll take the compliments where I can get them. ;)

Oh I have demoed Martin Logans before, they are a great speaker. And aesthetically pleasing as well :)
Still is wierd to me everytime I hear sound homing from the top of them, I keep looking for a tweeter lol!

RTi8s were great. If your gonna run them off an AVR I would sugest around 90-100 watts per channel, as they are easy to drive, but sound a lot better with power. As im sure you know, they use a cascading cross over, so they do a pretty good job uping the midrange and bass over the RTi bookshelves.
With the closeout prices from the new RTiA line the previous RTis are an absolute STEAL.

stealthv - do you have any pics of the rear of the tv? like the wall mount (recessed) power for the tv and the wall plates for the cables?

And that is fine for a direct view or rear projection television (CRT/Plasma/LCD/DLP/LCOS/etc.) but with front projection even the smallest little LED on a receiver/dvd player/amp/etc. can effect contrast . It would actually have a negative impact on image quality with front projection which is why I over analyzed it to begin with ;) .

Oh, well I live in the bottom floor of my house (just turning 18 FTW) and the wall i mounted it on shares the wall with my boiler room. As a result i just drill a hole and wire that wires behind, walk into my boiler room, and drill another hole at the bottom, and wire it back through. So I was able to cheat
Normally you would have to fish for the wires.
antwon412 01-23-08, 07:40 PM heres a crappy pic of my "party game" setup. Its only used for GH2&3, RB and Scene it.
Its an older Hitachi RPTV. Not calibrated or anything. But for those games, it doesn't need to be.
I'm looking to replace it with a 55"+ plasma in the very near future....
edited to add : the 360 is no longer on the floor by the sub. I only did that real quick. now its all nice and tidy with the 360 on the tv and the RB usb hub mounted on the side of the TV.
when i get home i will get a decent updated picture of my "adult" gaming setup. the 32" sammy lcd and headphones I use for Halo and COD4 that pwns scaesare setup ;)

I too want to wall mount my LNT4671f and then have a separate media center and somehow make it so you cannot see the cords....
Advice. What are all my options? or our options?

Like the other poster, I had a room behind the wall I used. Poked a hole behind the tv and just ran cables straight back.
There's the option of running the cables through the walls, ceiling, or floor. More work and finishing.

Juicyjucie3303 01-24-08, 02:09 PM Haha.....I knew the redness of the room was going to get some comments. Also...looking back....moving into the house took the long part...getting the tv/systems etc. only actually too a few months. (I had a 10yr old 19" tv before). The red room was already red, and the white...ugly curtains...were like that when we moved in.
The red matched the Texas tech stuff we had, so we decided to keep it....it's different, but it looks nice when u actually see it. The camera made it look a lot more harsh on the eyes than it actually is. The white curtains are getting ready to be replaced to match the shorter blacks.
PS.....I know it's kind of "far out", but it does have a pretty cool look to it when you are standing in it...the room is quite a bit bigger than the pictures show too, which is part of it i think.

Nope :)
I've had to put the center channel in the closet until we get the plasma mounted on the wall. But I do have a Focal CC 800v center channel that will soon set on that black stand. Also, there are 2 Speakercraft Aim8 surround sound speakers mounted in the wall behind that couch.

Caswell 01-24-08, 06:32 PM Here's my humble media room. The Wii is out in the living room hooked up to my Panny 42" plasma.
The wife didn't buy into surround sound / HD / etc, so it's been done on a shoestring budget. I think it's around $800 minus the 360. Still, I've been really happy with the results.
My wife wanted the room setup so that it looked "normal" if you passed by in the hall, which actually works given the layout of the room.

The Olevia actually handles blacks better than than the Canon point-and-shoot digital camera I used, which just seems to turn anything near black completely black. Sorry!

What DVD shelves are those? They seem perfect for storing lots of games and movies. That room looks very well put together as well.
Starlord 01-25-08, 12:08 PM Here's my humble media room. The Wii is out in the living room hooked up to my Panny 42" plasma.

My wife wanted the room setup so that it looked "normal" if you passed by in the hall, which actually works given the layout of the room.
[Cut out the pics so I don't get yelled at]
You get extra points for the Y-Wing Starfighter and Lambda-class shuttle model on those shelves. ;) Very cool, fellow Star Wars fan. :)
Caswell 01-25-08, 12:18 PM What DVD shelves are those? They seem perfect for storing lots of games and movies. That room looks very well put together as well.
Can't remember the brand. I'm pretty sure we found them at Target a few years ago when we bought the house.
I really wish I could remember, because they're decent quality. There's no sag in the shelves that have been full of CD's and DVD's since we got them.
Need to get something else to hold my GameCube / Xbox / 360 / DS games, because I don't like them sitting on top where they are now. I'm considering a cheap wire rack just for those games.

What about the TIE Interceptor down with the CD's? Or the AT-ST up on top?
I went a little nuts over LEGO Star Wars about a year ago. There are a few other sets unbuilt or still sealed up in the closet. Just a little bit of childhood wish fulfillment, I suppose. Funny thing is that now I get them as presents (the Y-Wing was last birthday from the mother-in-law).

Star Wars, HD gaming, and a bass in the corner. Are you sure we aren't related?
Seriously, what kind of bass is that leaning in the corner?

Holy crap, that's an awesome set.

Just an entry-level Ibanez (GSR200). I've been playing off and on since college. It's been extremely humbling - I was taught piano and bassoon (stop laughing) and was very competent, but in a very mechanical way. I've basically started at ground zero on actually understanding music theory.

SirDucky 01-26-08, 04:16 PM Ducky: Info on the stand please? Great setup!
Stand is a Salamander Synergy Tripple 10 with a 10" riser added.
Dimensions are:
Height: 22 3/4 (from floor to top)
Depth: 19 3/4
Width: 65 3/4
What I really like about the stand is that the 10" riser area is totally open, no bar supports to get in the way of the center channel. Given the dimensions of my cc, you can see I had a long search for the perfect stand.
Center channel dimensions are:
Height: 8 5/16
Depth: 16
Width: 25
Thanks for the nice compliments guys! :)

Someday my picture taking skills will improve. It is hard to show how a TV really looks on a picture.
darklordjames 01-26-08, 08:48 PM I really like the way you have that panel wall mounted between the two doors, and with only the two devices hooked up to it. Very minimalist! Have you concidered dropping down to just the 360 as the sole media device, and using it as a Media Center Extender, with a PC somewhere else doing the tuning and recording?
Kevin4092D 01-26-08, 09:11 PM Thanks! It works great. Although it was the only way to do it really. We had a 32" CRT there before but it stuck out and we kept tripping on the stand. I like the simplicity of the setup. I thought about using the 360 as a MC but we went with the Philips for $300 since it had high WAF (wife approval factor). It works great for what we need. I just networked our house and will make the 360 wireless soon too. So, down the road who knows, I might use the 360 as a Media Center.
The room is a simple setup and my shots look crappy but at least there isn't a red couch. j/k
SirDucky 01-26-08, 09:34 PM Looks good Kevin4092D! Thanks for posting up some pic's!
Someday my picture taking skills will improve. It is hard to show how a TV really looks on a picture. (quote from Kevin4092D)
Man, I hear you there. It took me a couple of hours and probably over 70 pictures to get what I felt were good enough to post here. The difference is usually huge on what ends up being posted vs. what we are actually seeing at home. I am sure that most people realize that.

RafaelSmith 01-27-08, 06:43 PM Doesn't look like it. Check out the finish line right below the blurred wheel.
Its just result of either my moving the camera or the camera not doing very well with the moving object...the car. I tried taking that pic just as that race started...My car was not in motion yet and the car on the left had just taken off.
its obvious my camera skillz leave a lot to be desired...I can never get lighting correct and taking images of a scene in motion.
Viper98 01-27-08, 07:21 PM People should not comment on black levels or crushed whites in a picture of a display. It makes them look silly. :) A picture of a display, jpeg compressed, then shown on a *different* display has no chance in hell of showing what the original display is capable of.
not to mention the black levels will only look as good as that of the monitors that you are currently using
darklordjames 01-27-08, 07:57 PM "not to mention the black levels will only look as good as that of the monitors that you are currently using"
That was kind of my point. :) A real world image, passed through the constraints of:
a) the camera's CCD
b) the camera's ISO/f-stop/etc settings
c) the camera operator's skill
d) jpeg compression limitations
e) the end user's display
f) the end user's room lighting conditions
...has no possible chance of being representative of the original display's quality level. As some of the pictures here have shown, it is quite possible to produce an artistic impression of what the original display feels like to watch, but technical details such as crushed blacks/whites can not be even remotely judged. As I said, commenting on crushed blacks makes the commentor look sily. :)
SSpectre 01-27-08, 08:00 PM on this pic, is the just the camera thats making the focus blur on the left side?
That's a result of the shutter speed. The shutter stayed open long enough for the car to move that much.
RafaelSmith 01-27-08, 08:06 PM That's a result of the shutter speed. The shutter stayed open long enough for the car to move that much.

RafaelSmith you use the office MS VGA cables or a third party? i ordered a third party for my 360 for my Vizio GV42L and it looked really bad compared to the component
RafaelSmith 01-27-08, 11:27 PM RafaelSmith you use the office MS VGA cables or a third party? i ordered a third party for my 360 for my Vizio GV42L and it looked really bad compared to the component
I use the MS one. On my Vizio 47" LCD VGA i much better than Component.
I have heard some bad things about most of the 3rd party VGA cables.
I noticed monoprice now has a XBOX 360 VGA cable. I would bet theirs is good.
But i took the safe (albeit expensive) route and got the MS one.

yeah, about 105. with the new curtains, much better picture during the day. just got the material and made the frame. Used picture mounts to hang on the wall.
mrTAPOUT 01-28-08, 01:18 AM Looks like you are giving up a lot of shadow detail in pursuit of Kuro black levels with your settings. Or it might be the camera.
Turok, the cave part especially, is really dark. ask anyone that has played it.

Yeah, mrTAPOUT, yeah!!!!!!!!!!
Atrocity 01-28-08, 02:17 AM lol. My bad. I just did a search and found lots of screenshots. Man I swear the TV is awesome!

those were the ones that looked bad on my screen. Maybe i'll just get the MS ones and see how they work. Hopefully it was the cable and not my tv.
Caswell 01-28-08, 09:21 AM That is a really nice futon. Could you tell me where you bought your futon?
I can't believe I remember this...

Our first house was tiny, so our office was also our guest room. The futon and mattress together were around $700. Sleeps really nice, Certa mattress.

Yes!! finally tapout starts posting his pics in here. I have been posting them for the longest time now.
Were you running at 1920x1080 resolution?
yea i did.. looked very washed up and blurry. i then tried it on my computer monitor and still looked the same. It was as if the cables weren't running at 1920x1080

Thats odd. Its hard to tell from my crappy digital pictures but VGA looks amazing on my set. Since yours looked bad on 2 different displays, sounds like a bad cable to me.
The only problem I had when I originally hooked the VGA up to the Vizio was that the Vizio took some time syncing...it actually turned itself off and then on twice before it was all done...but it hasn't done that ever since...it comes up 1920x1080 all the time.

last question: is there a noticeable difference between the component and vga picture quality? just wondering if its worth the purchase
SirDucky 01-28-08, 12:34 PM Nice setup sirducky! The whole ambiance is quite nice... especially the rug. I have the xbr2 also so I was wondering what you have your picture settings on? Thanks.
Oops, sorry I didn't answer this earlier. I don't want to bore everyone here, so I will just give you the short answer.
I tried a bunch of custom settings that others were posting in Owners ONLY thread >>> 60"/70" XBR2 <<< Settings/Tweaks.
I didn't care for it too much overall, I thought it just looked to bland, and it also had kind of a yellowish, greenish tint to it.
So...I just turned off the torch mode. (vivid) And used the standard mode.
RafaelSmith 01-28-08, 12:38 PM last question: is there a noticeable difference between the component and vga picture quality? just wondering if its worth the purchase
For me there was...VGA was much more crisp...and color much better.
Also, at the time I bought my TV I was using the HDDVD addon for the 360 which pretty much required that I use VGA or upgrade to an elite.
thanks for the help RafaelSmith

It wasn't really just that one shot, I just hate copying a bunch of pics in a quote:). I saw several others where I know there is detail missing because it's so dark. The Gow shot I noticed it, and a couple of the Halo shots as well. Again, it could very well be the camera/computer and not what you are seeing in person.
Have you ever calibrated the set? The colors look great.

hmm, I know my turok ones came out dark, I didnt think the halo ones did to. My monitor is dim, so its hard telling which shots I take come out more accurate.

I'm gonna try to take some RezHD shots today.
longhorns 01-30-08, 08:49 PM Hey MrTapout, Forza 2 never looked so good! That's an amazing picture coming off your tv. It would definitely be at the top of my to buys, if i had the money for it.
This is my re-worked setup. Got a decent stand from Target, nothing special but it'll work. I'm going to try and put some fans on the back of it eventually for hot air exhaust, then I can put on the doors that came with it so I can't hear the 360 as much. The room has also been painted.

I have a somewhat similar setup. Putting a 42" plasma above the fireplace was money for me. Wife loves it and it looks sharp. I was fortunate, though, and had a room behind it to run the wires straight back to the equipment. No wires visible from the front.

Pic is grainy because the more walls that I paint I just cannot seem to get enough light in the room so I have to use high ISO mode (ISO 800 for this shot) . If I use the flash on any shot with the screen in it then the screen lights up and the rest of the room is almost black (shows just how reflective the HiPower screen truly is) .

I've said it once, and I'll say it again, that's a very nice room. You've got a nice crib, pimp. I usually stare at that room about 5 minutes before tearing myself away, honestly. I think the floor could use a couple of naked girls on bearskin, while playing COD4-pimp.

your getting about 6% or so on the sides, and i'm guessing the top is about 5% or 6% too. on the PC monitor i was using, i was getting 5% overscan on the sides, and the top and bottom of the Marketplace tab was a few pixels away from the left edge...
check the 2nd post in this thread:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=984605
and save the overscan jpeg to your pc, then stream it your 360 via the dashboard if your PC and 360 are on the same router, it will show you exactly how much overscan your tv displays...
darklordjames 02-02-08, 12:30 AM So your overscan is about 4% on all sides except for ~3% on the left. It's a small enough amount that I wouldn't worry about it. :) 1.85:1 movies will fill the whole screen instead of leave small black bars, and you won't ever really miss anything in that iamge area. As long as you are happy with the rest of the picture, then it's no big deal.
DaGamePimp 02-02-08, 12:55 AM Thank You for all the positive comments guys , much appreciated :) .
Gamepimp - If I were a person, I would call that room "Done!", now.

The differences tend to be extra features like color screens, rechargable batteries, or different layouts. Layout wise, I am a big fan of the Harmony 360, 520, 550, and 720, as they all have a very similar design. The Harmony 360 is the cheapest of the group, and the 720 that you linked to is the nicest of the group.
The 676 you linked to probably has the best button layout of the old-style Harmonys, but the 659's layout is horrible! Who's idea was it to put the DVD control buttons at the very bottom! :)

If you go here, you can set up a Harmony account and make sure all of your devices are in the database (they are :) ), and also see if you like the way you go about setting up the remote. You can also go to Logitech's site and grab the desktop software to test out that method of configuring the remote.

At $100, the Harmony 360 is damn nice to own, and it can be found just about anywhere. I'm sure you would love that 720 as well. :)

Harmony 880 for $149.99 at Amazon. Amazon and Dell typically run these for as low as $120 every few weeks.

Dell ships DHL, so I'd order from Amazon. I perfer the looks of the 550 (which is why I bought one), but I'd upgrade to a 880 for $120, and even $150 isn't a bad price.
darklordjames 02-03-08, 02:05 AM The 880 button layout is pretty terrible, though. For the same feature set, the better button layout of the 720 makes alot more sense.
pidgedman 02-03-08, 03:00 AM Greetings everyone! I just purchased 2 sets of the IKEA dioders to backlight my LCD TV. My question is that I can't get one of the lights (yellow) on all the strips to remain lit. However the other colors seem to stay on indefinitely. Do I have a defective strip or is there a setting or button push that I should do? Thanks. It really looks nice on the TV BTW.

It's just a joke I use when talking about my HDTV to friends... I mention my TV has "twice the resolution of real life" and people do a double take. It's fun to see the look on their face.

I have an 880. You do get used to it. But if I were going to upgrade at this point, I'd get a Harmony One. That thing is gorgeous.
Caswell 02-04-08, 09:05 AM BBS - Functionally, all of the Harmonys are the same...
Just to add, in my limited experience Harmony remotes add significantly to the wife approval factor.
I've lived with the built-in speakers on the Panny plasma in my living room for over a year because the wife doesn't want to deal with a receiver. I recently got a Harmony 360 remote for our small media room and she loves it. She goes in, hits the button next to the activity she wants (usually just "Watch TV") and that's it.
I'm already pricing a decent receiver and speakers for the living room. Just have to budget an extra $100 for a Harmony 550.
:)
ZaZeeMan 02-04-08, 01:50 PM Yeah, my wife loves the 880! I used to have a Marantz RC2000 and it was complicated as hell to use with the projector, receiver, and the various inputs. It was a nightmare to use although my wife did figure it out. Works great with the 360 after some button re-arranging.
Can't say enough about the wife-acceptance-factor for the Harmony remotes. They work great. Except the 880's teflon-coated surface. Too slippery!
Also, I got my 880 for $99 from dell.ca's post-boxing day sale. You can always find it somewhere for about $150
KernalROM 02-04-08, 07:49 PM My wife didn't care for the 880 due to the button placement... Jeez... Can't win sometimes!
Angry Bear 02-04-08, 08:48 PM That's pretty funny. I have the same TV and the same speakers. Pisses me off that the A3000's IR window is dead center. Right where I want to put my center channel.
But man, there is no better deal in home theater than those Athena speakers. I got them for $140 for 5 speakers on Ebay, and they sound phenomenal!
Wow, and I have the same TV and same stand as NickG1215...
BBS G35 02-04-08, 08:49 PM What can't the Harmony's do? Would there be certain things that I would still need the dedicated remotes for?

It will work with everything but the Wii and the PS3 (no IR sensor on either). Not sure what you would do with a remote on a Wii anyway. :)
darklordjames 02-04-08, 09:38 PM The Harmony won't power on the Wii, but in order to use the Wii you have to have the Wiimote in hand anyway, so no biggy. The PS3 remote is also bluetooth, and as far as I know, there is no built in IR sensor on the PS3. You would need to keep the PS3 remote for Bluray movie watching. Yeah, it was a dumb design decision. :)
Everything else has an IR sensor and will work great with the Harmony.

Yup.
The black levels on the 5080 have really taken Bioshock to a new level for me--it's even more incredible when you can get such rich deep blacks and maintain detail.
I think that this is how my set up will stay for a while, I got rid of my computer desk and have the PC hooked up to the TV. Overall I want to get a new bigger couch and a lower stand for the TV and components.
