I will get in game pics soon, the camera is old and weak, so it'll be difficult to get material to stay still.

The equipment:

Mitsubishi HC1500 projector
100" BOC screen
Onkyo R530 receiver
Polk RTi8 fronts
Velodyne CT-150 subwoofer
Polk R50 surrounds

edit: Ya the room's a work in progess. Still needs carpet...and ceiling work.

Hello, got a new TV strand and cleaned up the room a little for the photo shoot

I'm very happy with my setup; for now :)

I have an A/C outlet in my room but I have the fan as an extra cooling device

106" DIY
42" LCD

All componets connected HDMI

As for the sound, the logitech do VERY well as my room is small.

I think it's perfectly ok just for the simple fact that I should be suing MS because of 360 but rather than that I decided just to not support it's game development outside of a few select titles

I'm intrigued. What do you mean by this?

lawsuit over knowingly selling faulty hardware and not issuing a recall of any sort

personally I've had 7 360s die out

There was a bunch of people in the area that were doing a class action lawsuit over the issue but I decided I didn't want to take part....

it disgusts me how they've been doing this for 2 1/2 years now and 360's are still failing at a rate of basically 1/3

sure they extended their warranty... but ONLY for RROD issues.... from my experiences nearly 1/5 360 hardware failures are dead dvd drives, not RRODs

on the plus side you can make an assload of money repairing RRODs. My friend does RROD repairs only for money andhe makes like 2x more money than I do at my full time job:mad:

I need to learn how to do the xclamp repair so I can starting raking in tons of money too

Here is my setup. Use to have the Axiom Epic 80 speaker system and 61 inch Sammy. We have since moved to a smaller apartment in the NYC area so I had to downsize.

The speakers are the Polk Audio RM6750 system. (The sub is in the back corner behind the TV.) The surrounds are behind the tv facing the wall. The girlfriend didn't want wires running all over the place. It actually sounds pretty good how it is setup now. The Axiom system I used to have sounded better for music etc.. but you would be hard pressed to tell a difference in home theater use. These little polks kick and the sub in the corner give them a powerful sound without being boomy. I am pretty pleased with this setup and the girlfriend likes that it is clean and simple looking.

The TV is an LG 37 inch 720p. Model 37LC2D.

Receiver is an Onkyo TX-SR505S

360 Elite

Comcast HD DVR STB.

Pure AV Belkin Power Console.

Pic Quality is a little off. Can't seem to take a clear image.

I disagree

personally I think if you are buying an HTIB the best value is the HTSR800 from Onkyo

or if that's too expensive the Logitech Z5500 is great for ~$200

Most likely he does not need to leave the room (well, maybe to change the disc), there are plenty of Universal Remotes out there that work off of RF and then use IR Blasters to control the devices up to 100' away.

it sounded worse than my 5 year old sony HTIB

You obviously expect too much. Maybe you can buy one of those ipod docking stations for that price and run your system though that. You'll be happy then for 70 bucks. At least it will be portable

Strange Brew,

Looks great. Is there a reason you put the components outside the room like that? Don't you have to leave the room to change the disc or pause a movie, even adjust the volume? Also, are you a professional athlete or something?!

He has an IR extender of some sort, so he can point his remote at a receiver near the screen and control his components in a remote (pun intended) area

You can't go wrong with anything Onkyo
sure you can, i have yet to hear an Onkyo speaker that actually sounded good, and their receivers run as hot (if not hotter) than my 360...

as far as the Spherex system, it does sound much better than the Pioneer system, but finding the complete system now is going to be near impossible. i know you can still get the speakers and subwoofer separately, but i haven't seen anyone sell the subwoofer cabinet with the actual amplifier included, and the last time i checked it wasn't available...

and i personally think the logitech system 5500 sounds better than the Pioneer system, but it's more than double the price, so it's up to you to determine if it's worth it. my 360 is in my spare room hooked up to a separate hdtv, so i didn't feel that it was worth it. if my 360 was in my living room, hooked up to my Panny plasma, you can bet the house that i wouldn't even consider the Pioneer system. then again, i wouldn't consider the logitech in the living room either, i would use my Pioneer 1014 with my Athena's and Velodyne...

strange brew - is it me or is the picture off to high? by a little?

tronn ,

There is a shiny wood surface there above the screen that is reflecting what's on the screen ( if I had to guess ;) ) .

strange_brew ,

Stunning , very nice ! I have local friends with incredible dedicated HT's (such as yours) and I almost have to cry when I come back home after a visit ;) .

--- JasonJason nailed it, there is a stained wood soffit running around the perimeter of the screen that shows a reflection in the picture. It doesn't really distract you while watching a movie (or playing XBox) though.

Most likely he does not need to leave the room (well, maybe to change the disc), there are plenty of Universal Remotes out there that work off of RF and then use IR Blasters to control the devices up to 100' away.

BTW; Nice setup Strange Brew!

http://www.provantage.com/audiovox-lf-irx~7AUDV027.htmThanks for the kudo's guys! You're close. I control everything with a Control4 (http://www.control4.com) whole-house audio / home automation system. Same idea though. The theater controller devices (Control4 HC300's) have IR emitters (or RS-232 serial where possible) which communicate with the components in the equipment rack. The Remote control communicates with the controller using Zigbee wireless.

Hey Viper, how come you loose so much detail in the gun in that last shot. Is it just a personal preference for the look or the camera/picture? When I pause the same shot I see the lines of the gun and details on the side of the gun. Just wondering if we are not seeing what you see because of the camera or something else. Your images are always stunning, just wanted to check.

also, keep in mind the monitor you are viewing these pics on plays a big part. When viewing these pics at home on my 22" LCD with 8,000:1 contrast, I see a lot more details and brightness then when viewing on my NEC LCD at work or CRT on my other computer. In fact, when viewing my own pictures on most screens other than the 22" at home, it looks much darker onscreen then it really is in person.

if someone can give me some adivce it would be great.

short story, i can´t decide if i should leave dynamic CE on my samsung on or off.

i read all over avs i should be using movie mode, since this mode turn off all the extra processing filter on the tv. But someimtes with movie mod the picture looks a bit dull/washout.

with Dynamic CE the picture improves dramaticaly but this crush blacks a bit and also alter the picture depending on dark scene or not.

so any adivice? this is for gaming btw.. 360 of course.

I have a Samsung LCD LNS3251D btw.

Hey all, short-time member/lurker, and first time poster.

I'd like to state first off--thank you to everyone who's posted pictures of their sets, games, movies, etc. The time you take to help people like me is appreciated in immense ways.

I'm going to be buying my first TV larger than a 19" CRT (sad, I know) and in my quest to find the best TV for my needs (which is mostly gaming and some minor movie watching,) I've read through every page in this thread. For all of my painstaking reading/lurking I think thanks to Viper, that I've found a TV that will work for me (in terms of response time for gaming, PQ, price, and size) in the HLS-5087.

Hopefully in months to come as we find the house we want to buy (another painstaking "quest for the holy grail") I'll be able to set up an HT center that'd make you people at least halfway proud. That'll be a whole new ballgame though, since I have no experience in the AV world whatsoever :P

In any case, I'm sorry to make a 'pointless' post, I'd just been doing alot of searching, and felt I'd let everyone know I appreciated the work they did in taking and posting pictures/offering opinions.

It looks like they were referring to multi-player. Here is a snipet of a review.

Playing online is the only time you'll notice any significant differences between the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of Dark Sector. The Xbox 360 version lets you join unranked or ranked games automatically, whereas the PS3 version features a more conventional lobby system. Both systems perform their functions admirably. The Xbox 360 version benefits from some neat single-player and multiplayer achievements, but these are replicated on the PS3 as "entitlements," so those of you playing on Sony's console aren't really missing out unless you have a penchant for gamerscores that span multiple games.

Put your camera on a tripod.
Put it on the lowest ISO possible so that you add the lease possible noise.
Get a good pause on the screen.
Increase the aperture if you can.
Use the manual white balance set if you have it available once you turned the lights off.
Try different metering modes if you can select them.
Put the camera on timer so you don't introduce camera shake.
Turn the flash off.
Take the picture.

One question though, why do you need a Panasonic Blu-Ray player if you have the PS3 right there?

Some don't like to put unnecessary stress on a part of the PS3 that is known to fail from over use. About half of all PS3 failures are blu-ray drive related, the other half are power supply failures (which I personally have had) I'm sure there are other types of failures, but these two are the most common.

Is that carpet on the wall or just a very textured wall?

It appears to be a textured wall. Most likely Behr sand texture paint, and then knocked down using a trowel edge. I did the same thing in my living room, almost the same color as well.

no backing for center column for venting to rears, and no dividers in between each columns. PLENTY of airflow. Never had a problem overheating. Eventually gonna do black mesh doors instead of the frosted glass, but i having no problems passing IR signals and no heat issues.

Privatemaxx,

A few questions/comments:

First off, I'll start by saying that I love the Earthy tones and clean look! While I can see that your style might be considered "sterile" and maybe not for everyone, I think you did an excellent job by balancing with the plants and wood tones. That desk/cabinet combo is superb, and I think the offset makes for a very creative and unique touch. Nicely done.

What are your floors made out of?

Where is your screen for the PJ?

Do you have any other light control not shown in the photos?

What are the little boxes in the upper-left corner, also by the door, and the different box with the two round holes just above the entertainment unit/below the cool light?

Will you get the white PS3?

Privatemaxx
04-12-08, 12:15 PM
@spider696969

thanks!

the little "black boxes" in the upper left corner are normal sockets for future light installation, these sockets are switchable from different places. the boxes near the door is the heating control for the floor-heating.

the floor is made of stone (some italian stone, don´t know the exact name)

the screen is above the tv, i`ll post a picture.(at the moment imageshack doesn´t work on my pc, maybe tomorrow)

i´m currently drying to learn the light´s control to my harmony1000
so i´ve still a few things to do.

oh, yes if the white ps3 will ever be available in europe i will think about it

^^ Nice room treatments. Big difference? Why exactly behind each front speaker?

difference is immediately night and day before calibration. Once you recalibrate with the new panels the sound only gets even better. I have the panels behind the front speakers because i have no side walls to use to treat first reflection points, can't hang the panels off the ceiling and most importantly, WAF, its the best I could do while keeping her happy and couldn't argue with that.

Test Drive Le Mans was by far one of the best racing games ever. I can't believe a sequel was never made. It was so cool playing through a 24 hour race (through I never played the 24 hour varient)

Funny that you mention that. :) I went through all of my Dreamcast games recently, and Test Drive Le Mans is one of the ones that really didn't stand up well to time at all. In comparison to anything even moderately recent, the driving physics in Le Mans were pretty horrible. Needless to say, I got rid of the game right quick. Actually, none of the Dreamcast racing games really held up that well. Not in comparison to PGR2+, GT4, or my favorite, Test Drive Unlimited.

My nephew's room looks just like that right now, maybe worse. He has a 42" Sharp Aquos, a launch 360, PS3, enough loose cables to trap a bear, and a denim-flannel-polyester carpet that used to be hardwood. :D

He takes no care of his 360 and has had it for 2 1/2 years. I have had mine on an open shelf at all times in a relative dust-free environment and am on my 4th...go figure. :)

Don't! Just sell it off and remember how great it was. Don't ruin the memory. :)

Continuing the subject of Dreamcast: Soul Calibur held up very well. So did Jet Grind Radio. Rez of course. Zero Gunner 2 and Zombie Revenge are still rad as hell. Seaman is still amazing.

Funny you should say that. I thought about digging out my dreamcast, hooking it up and then playing Test Drive Le Mans (assuming I still have it.. long story) but then I figured I'm probaly remebering in a Golden Light and I should just leave it that way.

Anyone remeber Toyko Extreme 2 (also know as Highway racer and couple other titles depending where you lived). That game was truely awesome for its time. The one for 360 kinda of sucked (import tuner) as it got the point where you spent half an hour cruising to set up one race or was that just me>?

"Anyone remember Toyko Extreme 2"

Same story. It was rad back in the day, but didn't stand up to time at all.

As a side note, the Dreamcast is the only system that I ever owned a wheel for. There were a lot of racing games on the system, and I had all of them. :) The majority were great for the time period, but they are pretty badly dated now. Sega GT and Vanishing Point were probably my favorites from back then, but when I popped them in recently, they were pretty disgusting. Racing games on any platform back then were really immature as a game type though. It's not like FPS where the late 90's gave us Quake 2, Unreal, and Half-life that essentially defined everything to follow. Yeah, I went through my old PC games recently too. Those 3 games held up very well for their age. :)

"Anyone remember Toyko Extreme 2"

Same story. It was rad back in the day, but didn't stand up to time at all.

As a side note, the Dreamcast is the only system that I ever owned a wheel for. Yeah Vanishing point was awesome back in the hay days of dreamcast. But I played it recently and it seemed like a great concept but awful psychics they should remake it.
Shenmue defiantly holds up through. Last time I tried to play it my dreamcast froze :( Unreal Tournament was a great game that really stood up, just not on composite wires which is all I have (now) for my dreamcast.

Pipeer.. Nice set up. You may want to move the 360 a little further away from the projector, as it generates a lot of heat and may fry the 360.

What do you mean? COD4 has 2-4 player split screen, if that is what you are referring to.

No they wouldn't. While capable players, their interfaces are universally terrible.

I actully like the interface more then an ipod or creative :D :p
My 2nd my player was a archos jukebox recorder 20gb. This was still when music was sorted by "physical" folders so all my music these days is still sorted by folders so its great to be able to go "Tecno/Dj Tiesto/ In Search Of Sun Rise 6 Vol.1" instead of going by Tags which don't very well for tecno CD's since every song is orginaly by a different artist.

"I actully like the interface more then an ipod or creative"

Since you own it, I would hope that you like the interface! :) How much you like something doesn't automatically translate to mass appeal though. The iPod is partly successful because of an excellent marketing campaign, yes. But it is also wildly popular because it gets so much repeat business, and recommendations to new users by their friends. Why? Ease of use. There is no other player out there that has such an easy method of using the player itself, getting content onto the player, and for acquiring new content.

Was/is Le mans that dark?? I have a feeling my copy doesn't work anymore but these shots are really making me want to dig it out.

They're not. I just really, really suck at taking pictures. What looked fine to me on the viewfinder came out looking dark in here. I'm now taking 2-3 pics of each shot I get with the camera aperture set at different degrees of light. Live and learn I guess. And I also don't care what the naysayers think: "LeMans" still plays/looks awesome on Dreamcast! :)

Maybe now I will finally find a few games for my Dreamcast (got the hardware, but no software) I might need some game recomendations soon if they start to become more common.

Seriously, it's good to see all the love for the DC. It shows alot of people realize just how good it was-is. Sega's greatest system. You just know it's time was short lived but not for lack of greatness, and that's sad. DC-forever!

All this DC talk has me close to buying it again w/ Crazy Taxi and NBA 2K and NFL 2K and...wow! It's killing me right now!

Yep the DC is a great system and ahead of it's time , no doubt about it . We have 2 DC's with kb/m , broadband adpaters , wheels , fishing controller , multi VMU's , VGA box and tons of games and they are honestly just as fun today as they were back in 1999/2000 . Of course keep in mind I still play my Atari 2600 from time to time so maybe I just have a thing for older stuff ;) .

I have both systems sitting in boxes right now. I think I need to hook them up now......but I did like the Dreamcast best. Playcalling on your own controller (w/ a VMU) in NFL 2K was the best thing ever! I still wish someone would do that again...

Damn, what kind of cooling are you doing in you media closet?? I would think from just looking that it would burst into flames the when you started using mor than a could of things at once.

But nice setup man. Very well hidden. And the movie collection is ridiculous!

lcjrodriguez

Thx for the comments guys, as for the cooling I have 4 250 mm fans (3 on the bottom blowing into the cabinet and the 1 on top blowing out) controlled by a zalman fan regulator set at 68 degrees with the fans running at 1200 rpms.

As for the completion on the setup. If you look closely you will see that there are gaps on the left and right. We are customizing 2 panels to fill that gap in and we are cutting a huge whole on the side wall where I will have a pull down ladder type contraption so that I access the rear of all the components.

The rear speakers need to be toed slighly for a better sound field and I'm waiting on an in wall sub for the front as I have only one in the rear atm (basic internal amp subwoofer, powercube II).

Lol guys, You know what I have a question. I wanna take some better quality pictures because mine are kind of blurry. I noticed most of you are pretty savy with all the quirks that come with these new cameras to optimize photos. My biggest problem is taking pictures of the tv with the lights off. I have a Sony Cybershot DSC-H3.

Thanks in advance guys.

Turn the ISO down. Then set the timer and put the camera down on a steady surface. Hit the shutter, and don't touch the camera until the timer counts down and the camera goes off. You'll reduce noise due to the lower ISO, but the picture will still be sharp due to no shaky hands holding the camera for long exposures.
