Turn the ISO down. Then set the timer and put the camera down on a steady surface. Hit the shutter, and don't touch the camera until the timer counts down and the camera goes off. You'll reduce noise due to the lower ISO, but the picture will still be sharp due to no shaky hands holding the camera for long exposures.

wtfer has an excellent point. If you don't already have something, then Windows Live Photo Gallery is a nice little tool for basic photo manipulation, and it's great at organizing. Plus it has integrated Flickr support, for ease of posting here. :) If you are running Vista, then Live Photo Gallery is the upgrade to Vista's Photo Gallery.

^^^ Nice but the blacks look washed-out. If you turn the lights in your room off when viewing these pics on a computer they don't look half bad. I'm just showing that my LCD model (Olevia 747i) can play these older game systems so that potential owners that are old-school gamers can rest assured they don't have to hold on to their dying CRT's for dear life. Anything before Dreamcast is a crapshoot on HDTV's unless Gamer Mode is activated before connecting the older game system, which is the trick for this particular TV to display these games.

So, while we're waiting for "GTA IV" to hit (the calm before the storm) anybody want to manipulate my just-taken images of Saturn and N64 games in action on my Olevia 747i? I mean, since we're reminiscing and such!

I'm also in the middle of what you could call a hardware refresh. I just got the Denon which replaced a Onkyo TX-SR601. I'm hoping to get a Sony 52" XBR6 (if it doesn't have clouding issues). And then I think I'll shop for subs. But I don't anticipate dropping the SuperOnes any time soon...

Bose is a lifestyle product. As such, they are very easy to set up. They fit in very well with any relatively modern decor. They are very easy to use. You buy it, you put it in place, you do the excellent 5 point calibration, and you forget about it. Bose makes some very nice product in that regard. Additionally, they take very good care of their consumer.

uMusic is another great thing about Bose. You will not find a cooler MP3 system out there. uMusic pays attention to what you are listening to and dynamicly builds a playlist based on what tracks you skip past, or repeat or manually vote +/-. Combined with it's internal database of like tracks and artists, you find that you are only listening to stuff that you really like, with no real input or intervention of your own.

In short, Bose has nailed the user experience.

Audio quality is crap, and the product costs about 10% of it's retail price to manufacture, but these are not things that a Bose customer cares about. You really won't find an accurate opinion of Bose here either, as the Bose customer is the exact opposite of the AVSforum target market. :)

i doubt the bose customers know the truth.........id take good sound over good looking product any day. For what their systems cost i could buy a kick ass 8.1 speaker set-up and maybe have money left over for a very good bass. I kinda laughed when i saw a bose infomercial and this lady who was evaluating the product said "you can feel it in the ground." as another poster said, bose customers don't know much about home theater........I don't hate them, i just feel sorry for them because they shell out so much money for such a useless product. Do any of their "receivers" even support hdmi??? you pay 3k$ but you dont even get pcm........come on people.

Hey Viper, how come you loose so much detail in the gun in that last shot. Is it just a personal preference for the look or the camera/picture? When I pause the same shot I see the lines of the gun and details on the side of the gun. Just wondering if we are not seeing what you see because of the camera or something else. Your images are always stunning, just wanted to check.

taking pictures of tv images usually crushes contrast while providing a sense of pure black. kinda like a samsung, ha! ever wonder why these pics look alot more realistic than yours? because its the camera shot inducing false black levels on the image making it pop more. also has the same effect on color and contrast. i wish there were tv tech that could reproduce blacks like that.

You just sanded the wall down for smoothness and then painted it as your screen? I like that! Did you use a special reflective paint, or just go with a flat white? Gives us a picture of that wall with the lights on, please. :)

I wouldn't use reflective paint. I just used flate white. And I used the puddy they use on sheetrock to plug holes and cracks on the entire wall and sanded it because I bought a screen and it had ripples in it and looked horrible.

but guys, this game got 10's all over the place!!! hell, my grandmother even gave it a 10!!! :rolleyes:

In my opinion the only other game that comes close in scale to GTA4 is Crackdown. So, the only game you can compare GTA4 graphically to is the same. Granted, they are two different artistic styles, but GTA4 spanks Crackdown in draw distance, textures, lighting, and HDR. For anyone that wants to say that Bioshock, CoD4 etc. etc. are better looking games, I would hope so! Real estate is the name of the game here people! The reason why GTA4 has recieved 10s in graphics is because of the extremely impressive SCOPE and SCALE of the world. Could CoD4 level graphics been obtained here? Sure. If you don't mind loading screens every two blocks or less.

Anyway, just tired of the constant moaning of graphics....

Texture variety is better in GTA, texture detail is better in Crackdown. Draw distance is about the same. Lighting in GTA is "better", but is also far more flawed. HDR is HDR, there has yet to be an actually good implementation that I have seen in any game. Crackdown is also a hell of a lot sharper, and actually looks like 720p, instead of really well detailed 480p. :)

I played the hell out of Crackdown for the first time two weeks ago, and I also spent 8 hours playing GTA4 yesterday. GTA is great, but graphics are by far the weakest part of the experience. There are piles of game on the 360 that look far, far better, regardless of how big the environment is.

graphics may not be on par wit some other 360 games but they are still good considering the size the map for GTA IV..this game is amazing, the people, the driving, etc everything is so life like like i was in a real city...f**kin awesome its just so diverse but i do agree the graphics arent as great as they make them seem but they are still pretty good for such an open world game like this

As for the projector, it wouldn't work out as it would be off center due to the door on the left hand side. My next project God willing, will be a dedicated home theater in my basement. I would def go with go with a 1080p profection setup with a set of B&W towers. I have my eye on the Pioneer projector that was just released.

As for the collection... That's something that has been built up over time. I'm just now converting everything over to Bluray.

Given that Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, Bioshock, and Orange Box are all better games that have come out in the last 9 months, I would think that it isn't that unlikely that we will see several things better in the next 9 months.

Given that Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, Bioshock, and Orange Box are all better games that have come out in the last 9 months, I would think that it isn't that unlikely that we will see several things better in the next 9 months.

Yes, GTA4 is pretty rad, and a lot of fun, but it isn't the best thing ever.

Best game ever made? I don't think so. But it is very good. Bioshock is on the same level, simply because of its storytelling. Half Life 2 as well. But the other two he mentioned can't even hold a candle to GTA4.

It's amazing how often people forget that early reviews are always inflated. In the last year, 3 of the 4 games I just listed were rated higher than Ocarina for almost a month. The later reviews that came out lowered the scores to merely Top 20 status. This would of course be because the later reviews are by people that actually got to spend a decent amount of time with the game instead of just being horribly rushed, and therefore got to spend more time with the flaws.

You should have seen the uproar in the comments section of the IGN review for GTAIV. It was HILARIOUS. Nintendo fans were up in arms, complaining about the lack of 10.0 scores for Super Smash Bros. and whatever the newest Mario game is.

You realize the terribly flawed logic that you just displayed, right? :) The same ridiculous argument could be used for every game. "Halo3 dropped in average because of PS3 fanboy reviews!!!1". "Mario Galaxy dropped in average because of Xbox fanboy reviews!!!". Nothing about GTA4 makes it so special that it will be the first game in history to ever be touched by human bias.

Again, GTA4 is pretty rad. It is sitting in my 360 right now and has about 20 hours on it already. It says it only holds up to a 40" TV, but it fits my 42" perfectly and is rated for more than enough weight on the top shelf to hold it.

$1439 for the tv and $299 for the stand:o(americans... this is considered an excellent deal in Canada!)

There are a ton of parallels between Body Harvest and the GTA series. 3d environments, a variety of vehicles that are all able to be controlled by the player, free roaming missions, etc.. He was talking about the gameplay, not things like the visual appearance of the characters.

Edit - Oh, your link was of Space Station Silicon Valley. The connections between that and the GTA series aren't really clear to me, but Body Harvest clearly influenced the series.

I remember when the YSP-1 came out. The thing was damn impressive. The manager of my shop at the time picked one up and wall-mounted it with a 32" Sharp LCD and added a small Velodyne sub, all in his pool table room. It was a damn nice little setup. :)

Sadly, the 79 is the most quiet from my own experiences. The first 360 I ever got had the 79 and it's still more silent than any...including the BenQ. However, it's also the most painfully moody and bitchy drive out of all of them. :(

Heh. Sorry. It's just that it's the first controller I ever bought and/or modded, so the sentimental value is there...much like your first car, however spectacular or crappy it may have been. I've probably had hundreds of controllers go in and out of my house, yet this one has stayed. The only other controller that I ever used so much was a Logitech wireless for the PS2 that I bought years and years ago, yet still gets used to this day. :)

there's a person here in town who fixes them and he's been doing it for 2 years now and charges a flat rate of $60, he posts on craigslist and makes good money fixing them. Not my cup of tea, messing with xbox's but if you like tinkering around with gadgets lol - go for it!

I have a very modest setup...I also need to take pics at night since we have floor to ceiling windows we get a ton of natural light which is a pain with the glossy screen of the 71f series.

i definitely recommend eventually picking up the Polk CS1-CH (the CH stands for cherry finish, to match your fronts) to timber match your fronts, it makes a world of difference, and in general a good center speaker is one of the best things you can do for your HTS. you can get it for about $129 from J&R, with free shipping, and it will definitely complete your front speakers.

yes it crushes blacks terribly
and it messes up colors

blacks aren't quite as deep as the kuro or z85 from panasonic....... but it more than makes up for it with it's colors

No kids (surprised? ;)) and that's my whole studio apartment minus the kitchen and bathroom (which even I did't dare photograph! :eek: ). I'm pretty close to reaching my own limit of tolerance so I felt like immortalizing how it looks now so I can laugh about when (if?) the major clean-up occurs. And yes, that was Country Time Lemonade on that bottle. :)

Some managers are just happy when you pay the rent on time and don't bother the other tenants.

I have almost no roaches (normal amount for a small city apartment) because (a) I fumigate regularly and (b) I leave no open food container, leftovers or drinks out in the open. I take the trash out every night and only leave the plastics (which I recycle every three or four weeks) so even though you see a huge pile of crap on top of each other there is no food trash left out in the open to attract the roaches. I've lived here for nine years and trust me, if I had a roach problem I'd clean up my place in a jiffy. I hate them mothers with a passion!

i have the same sub, well i dont use it, it's been replaced by a 12" cerwin vega sub, but i still have the yamaha in the box in the closet.

Dad, I too live in the city, and I do not have any kind of pest problems but... roaches do not necessarily come from garbage being left exposed, they come from an uncleanly enviornment. Such as congestion, spilled soda or juice, crumbs, dishes or residue of dirty dishes etc. Roaches are also cannibals and can live off of the condensation from the plumbing in the building walls, hence the reason the problem is so difficult to resolve, once it arises.
You also mentioned that you fumigate regularly. There is no way that fumigation can be efficient, when there's so much congestion in your living area.
I saw this post in the PS3 forum and this is what I had to say "If I were youyr landlord, I'd charge you $100.00 per sq. ft."
Please do yourself a favor, clean and disinfect that place. It really isn't healthy for you or anyone that comes over (if anyone comes over which I highly doubt anyway).

Hey Tapout, is your pio calibrated? I am truly impressed with the black levels. Your GTA photos have to be the best I've seen so far. I have an XBR5 in my bedroom and I hate it, I should've bought another 71 series (have on my HT setup in my living room (http://s297.photobucket.com/albums/mm214/lcjrodriguez/?action=view&current=233.jpg)), but now that I see your Pio, I'm taking it into consideration. I just don't like the aesthetics of the set.

There is just no way to make GTA4 look good in still pics haha
