Wow! Bigdee, I would be worried that that stand wouldn't be able to handle that size tv.The stand is very durable. It supports up to 150lbs, and my DLP is only 80lbs. The base of the tv matches the width and depth of the stand perfectly. It might not be the best looker, but it gets the job done. I'll eventually get a wider tv stand for aesthetic purposes.

It is the 650, the version under. Basically the same TV but the 750 has an ethernet port I believe. I would highly recommend the 650/750 as the quality is immense. It will simply take your DVD/Gaming experience to the next level.

It is an amazing TV. Before that I had a Toshiba Regza 37X3030D 1080p which isn't fit to be in the same house as the Samsung. I'm a student, only 17, but I saved up for the TV myself and I can honestly say that it is worth every penny/dollar.

Yeah, it's the step about my 71F, so I can vouch for that. As an LCD, the 650-750's are the absolutely best in the market at the moment.

Most definately, the black levels are amazing. I haven't yet got a blu-ray player, but even DVD's in standard definition look nothing short of amazing. Besides, you get what you pay your money for, and by buying this TV, I knew I was getting a special piece of equipment.

mw182006, you need to buy a projector + screen now! otherwise great setup, the 2.1s are being neglected to surround duty, heh. They are definately more potent than well...most other "surround" speakers. And twice the size.

I highly suggest picking up some SACDs to play in the PS3.

I just bought a 52" 650, and I love it. Watching Blu-Rays on it is no longer like simply watching a movie; it's like watching a play.

My next step is surround sound. I know this is not the thread for that, but well.. there it is.

I'm also going to have to check out the RROD thread more carefully, since my 360 just died on me. I'm considering getting an Elite, but am not sure how much the added features are worth to me, especially since the 360 doesn't have a high definition optical drive (how disappointing, Microsoft. Making me buy an add-on, and an add-on that supports a dead format, to boot! WTF?).

*sigh* the money pouring into my bank account is taking a hit. It's still rollin in there.. but much, much slower. Good thing I have beautiful technology to cheer me up :)

HDMI vs. VGA vs. Component issues aside (in reality the picture quality of all three will not be noticeably different), all machines now sport an HDMI output. And with the current Pro unit having a 60gb hard drive, it's a better value than the elite in my opinion.

I have an Xbox 360 Elite aswell as a Pro and I can say that the picture quality via HDMI is alot better then VGA or Component. So, somehow, I don't think I'm doing something wrong. It also has to do with the display you are using as well. HDMI vs VGA or Component is not as cut and dry for most as it is in your case. With my Samsung 4661F the difference is minuscule and not apparent to the untrained eye. HDMI is good because it carries audio and video on one cable, with the right calibration they can look identical.

Exactly! HDMI is, in many cases, little to nothing more than a marketing gimmick invented solely for the purpose of generating new and overpriced sales from people that love, love, love buzzwords and eat up media hype like candy.

HDMI exists for two reasons: 1) audio and video on the same cable (the video is actually not an improvement - it's just a DVI connection), and 2) DRM.

And I guarantee 2 was WAY more of a reason than 1.

We're not stating the camera picks up how a game looks. Obviously they aren't as accurate as direct feeds. However there is no harm in people posting such shots as you can still see the differences between TV's.

Not freaking screen shots of games.

i don't agree. screenshots are important too, to see the color balancing, resolution, etc. from the tvs. the only thing i'd like to see if someone is only posting a screenshot would be if they could tell us what the display is and whether or not it was calibrated.

Everyone should just calm it down a bit. I have loved this thread since the beginning and would like it open when I post my room :)

well, I'm the one who created this thread to begin with and perhaps I should explain it's purpose. When the 360 first came out, everyone was on here asking to see how the 360 looked on such and such tv, so many members were creating many threads to ask the same question, " how does the 360 look on (blank) tv?" So the original purpose of this thread was for members to post an in game screen shot and state what tv you are using, but after awhile it seems that it turned into a whole "post your setup" thread, which is I see no problem.

What bothers me is people that post 20 screenshots in a row of the same dang game , now that is annoying IMO because there are tons of gaming sites to see that much content of a single game .

love it. While the colors aren't as accurate as the a450 was everythign else is way better. Plus there is no dithering which is a big plus and it doesn't have a mirrored finish on the glass :D

Mercs 2 seems ok. Graphics aren't exactly stellar but good enough. Dialog is fairly corny. Aiming and shooting is downright terrible so far. Even with a guy 5 feet in front of you it will take 5-10 shots before he goes down because only 1 or 2 will hit them. Also, I hate games that make you press a button to pick up stuff like ammo. Just pick up the stuff already. If folks want to discuss Mercs 2, we should probably move it out of this thread. I'll get some more time with it tomorrow and feel it out a bit more. Went through the first couple of missions tonight but I'm now tired and going to bed.

I will say the mohawk dude is voiced by an actor I really like. I think that's been the best part so far for me.

The pio service menus really aren't that bad. I have the 1150HD so I didn't venture into the service menu on mine, but I have a friend that actually calibrates tvs and he showed me the service menu in his 5010FD. It was far less scary looking than the sm in the 32" sony I used to have.

Yeah that's it. While not quite the on par with Halo, Half-Life & Call of Duty, even though some part of the game are good enough that could have been from any of those game. It's still far & away better than the crappy games like Jericho, Quake 4 & Turning Point: Fall of Liberty.

If it was released on PS2 or Xbox it would probably have been one of the better FPS on those systems. If you see it cheap, I would recommend getting it.

The mains are Klipsch RF82 with a RC52 center. Not pictured are the S2 rears.

As far as the screen goes, I just noticed the smudges in the middle, but the fuzziness around the rest of the screen is silk-screen.

I've been playing for a few days now, and I really like the game. I liked the previous installments, and to me this is the best one. The graphics are pretty good, and the sound is excellent on my 7.1 system.

Viper did you ever adjust your SM? Just think, full screen whites will be actually white. flesh tones will be perfect. Its really easy as long as you follow step by step instructions, and only takes a few mintues. People make it seem harder than it really is.

The real-time lighting & shadows in that game are very impressive, especially in that last shot with the rotating lights.

Overall: Overall this is a solid game but aside from the ragdolls it is inferior to GTA in every way imaginable

Probably why I like it better. I'd rather do Mayhem or Fuzz or the other activities instead of driving people and dates to a bar. To each their own, but I just wanted to offer a second opinion. Looking forward to playing this the rest of the week. I thought GTA4 just took itself way too serious.

I turned VSync on when I started and haven't really noticed any signifanct framerate problems. At least, nothing that makes it unplayable. Put about 3 hours in this evening. Good stuff.

Here you go VIPER. Be sure to write down your default rgb SM settings before you change them so you can go back if you wish. Just follow directions, its really simple and makes a world of a difference. Let me know how it turns out.

To get into the service menu:
With the TV off on your remote hit the display button and wait 3-5 seconds. Then hit left, up, left, right and then power the TV on.

Once in the SM hit "Mute" until you see the menu called "Panel Factory (+)." Hit "Enter" and use the up or down arrow to navigate until you see "Panel-2 ADJ (+)." Hit "Enter" and use the up and down arrows to scroll through all the RGB controls. Use the left and right arrows to change the values. When finished, hit the "Home Menu" button to exit the SM.

Dnice recommended settings in SM

R-High +3
G-High 0 (no change)
B-High -10
R-Low -12
G-Low 0 (no change)
B-Low -13

Put the color on MID when you are finished. Mtommy and I both did it, just take your time when you do it.

Basically try to get as much light on the subject without using the flash. It's hard to flash photo any flat surface without some reflection. And open up your exposure a few notches if necessary, enough to pull in as much light as possible without washing out the colors.

How big a difference it will make will depend on your display device. My InFocus projectors were calibrated, but they were damn-near perfect right out of the box, so the difference was ridiculously minimal. My current Mitsu showed a noticable improvement, but I doubt the average person would see it unless pointed out to them. Some TVs, on the other hand, will show drastic differences when calibrated correctly, as they look ludicrously horrible straight out of the box. What disc do you own?

I took this picture back during christmas of 2006. Since then my parents have upgraded to a 42" Sony Bravia over the fireplace and have gotten a ps3 for bluray, plus i have a 360 set up down there, ill get new pics of their set-up over thanksgiving

didn't really dig those SM changed settings
set it back to how it was before......... I prefer the warmer tones I guess and it seemed to make blacks appear to have a greenish tint


Yep, i did the same adjustment in the SM long time ago and never looked back. Takes a couple of days to get use to it, but looks a lot better than orig. SM settings with low color temp. Without any change i was getting a yellowish look what i couldn't stand.

SR2 is fun, but more of a expansion pack imo.
Not much changed, cars controls crappy and the graphics only improved a bit.

green tint to blacks? You must have not done something right. Colors are spot on with the changes. Default on low is way to yellow. Did you put color temp on mid after you finished?

dont you have a 6010FD and viper has a 5080hd? Your service menu tweaks are not going to be valid for him. For one sharing settings is not the solution with Kuro for the simple fact they can have a 20-30% variance with grayscale. Two Your 6010FD will track 6500 very different then his. Viper if you want your 5080HD to look the best Hire Jeff www.accucalhd.com He is the best out there for calibrating Kuro's He calibrated my 5080HD, my 1150HD, and three weeks from now he is calibrating My PRO151FD. If you really want accurate color, get an elite.

after playing a few games of each I must say I think NBA Live is better this year. it just seems to flow much more naturally and the controls are easily better than 2k

I must agree, 2k9 is the better game between the two. I downloaded both also I think Live has the better face models but 2k9 plays much better. But its all about what you like I guess. Some people actually liked last years Live too. lol

Viper, I leave it on but I dont think purecinema has any effect on your colors. Perhaps you didnt do it right the first time I dont know, but are you liking it more now? You should still get the warm look without the creamy full screen whites. THe red push should be gone also.

If you are turning purecinema to advance that is what you are seeing. Advance mode on anything but 1080p/24 will drop the light output making the colors appear more muted.
