Would those shelves have any problem holding a 35lb Yamaha receiver?

Nope, not at all (I bought this $69 Walmart special last summer, what a deal... it certainly doesn't look/feel like most of their made in China garbage). I think they still sell it too. I bought the matching TV stand for my kitchen/hearth room HDTV (a 32" Sony tube that weights 160+ lbs).

Anyway, I have a Yamaha HTR-5790 sitting my tower (which weighs 33lbs according to the manual). No issues at all, other than being a tight fit.

Nice to see the Dreamcast still in the picture.

How can you have a dreamcast and not a PS2. Dreamcast died years ago and for good reason, it was garbage, no games to play, and that is what consoles are all about. So I know that Cast is just sitting there.

It's all about the games alright, and the DC had many good games. If you were really into your games you would have gotten a DC too. I still have my DC and about 15 games.

Speaking of old consoles, last night I even played some Gran Turismo on my old PSX, boy, graphics have sure come a long way, but the gameplay was as good as ever!

Short-lived maybe, but garbage? Definitely not. I still have fond memories of the first time I booted up NFL 2K and Soul Calibur.

To each his own, but I would argue the first year's worth of games on the DC were much better than the first year of PS2.

I do have a PS2. My g/f has it at the moment. I have had 3 PS2 actually :) . Matter fact, I think I may have had just about every single console made since NES, Including 3DO and jaguar :( . I love all systems, no hate towards any console. Once the rev and PS3 come out, the gamecube and dreamcast will be removed from the throne.

P.S I have about 50-60 burned Dreamcast games and still do play it every now and then. Puzzlefighter ownz!

say all you want about the dreamcast, but that was one of the best built consoles ever, you really had to try to break one of them. i used mine in my car for years, and it got hit, stepped on with muddy shoes, kicked, thrown around, and left in 100+ degree weather, but it still works. although it is kinda yellowish and faded.

the ps2 would never handle that abuse

I still play my Dreamcast that was purchased at the midnight launch and it still works like a champ , I have gone through about 5 PS2's since its launch .

-- The DC is still one of my favorite consoles , it was ahead of its time and holds up well now considering it came out about 6 years ago . My DC is currently connected to my 26" LCD HDtv and it looks great , many DC games look better than the PS2 IMO .

Funny how this thread is turning into a 'remember the Dreamcast' thread.

That said, I loved my Dreamcast and wish that it got a better chance. I challenge anyone to say that Soul Caliber, Sonic Adventures, Jet Set Radio, Shenmue, Virtua Tennis, even the original Crazy Taxi and Resident Evil Code Veronica were bad games.

It even had its quirky games like Chu Chu Rocket, Space Channel Five, Grandia, Phantasy Star Online, that one fishing game (Sega Fishing?) and kicked off the NFL/NBA 2k series, the two best sports series, in my opinion.

How cool was it to have the VMU? It made football play calling super secret and allowed some play on the go, like having a little portable.

Poor Dreamcast, you never got your chance to shine.

Dreamcast was definitely ahead of its time. Only to be diminished by the many PS2 fanboys who would not support. I think most of its games were definitely better visually and gameplay wise than most of PS2 1st year launch if you had a VGA adapter. I wish the Xbox or Sony picked up on the VMU feature of the dreamcast, especially for games like Madden where you could have called plays on VMU instead of the screen.

The service menu, it's kinda tricky though.

I had a 65" Mits Platinum Plus back in the day (01-04) and it had a ton of overscan from the factory. I read up on accessing the service menu at another forum and was able to get it down to around 2-4% around all 4 sides.

Are you absolutely sure nobody hit (I think it is called "format" on Mits TV's remote) the zoom feature? I would double check that first. It should be input specific so it may only be activated on the 360. That is an awful lot of overscan, I find it hard to beleive the factory would let a TV leave with that much overscan.

Zoom is not enabled. And I actually checked the overscan % with a JPG someone on here posted and it was in the 'acceptable' level. But obviously it's an issue. It's a CRT btw, not a DLP as someone commented above.

-pause the game
-no flash
-long exposure (ie. 1/2 second or longer, play around with it)
-use a tripod (or set the camera on a shelf)
-use the timer for the shutter so pressing it won't move the camera and cause blur

Chodite, you the same guy from MaddenMania? Anyways, fixing overscan is pretty simple. If you'll search here or over at *************** you'll find out how to get in the secret menu to fix it. If the press start on NBA 2K6 is partially cutoff then you're dealing with quite a bit of overscan.

I made a new version. I moved the Pure AV from the bottom left to the top middle shelf. That allowed me to squeeze the columns tighter. I'm a little worried about overheating because of how much space some components are at. For example, The directv receiver, the Denon, & the Pure AV have approximately 1/2" of space on each side. I got rid of the middle shelf for easy access to the back of the denon plus more ventilation space. The other shelves have approximately 3" of space above for all the components except for the Denon. I don't plan on putting glass doors in front.

Behind each component is a cutout for cabling & ventilation. The only difference is that I made separate openings behind the Denon to keep track of the wires. I even put smaller holes for each speaker wire.

I also made a variation of the setup where the top board has about the same amount of space as on the sides of the TV. The board on setup_2 is flush with the top of the TV.

Do you guys think that the PureAV is overkill? That one is priced at $750. The only reason I chose it over the cheaper ones is that it has Phase 6 PureFilter Circuitry which I have no clue what that is compared to the Phase 4 & lower versions. Little help here.

I added a 3D version that I made with Bryce & photoshop. Has anyone seen any reviews for the Infinity Cascade Series Seven speakers?

Just got a Sceptre 42" 1080p LCD. It's replacing a 1st gen 50" Samsung. The Sammy was a good TV, but I am amazed at how much better the black levels and color are on the lcd. Note how the light pouring in from the window has no effect on picture quality. This a great gaming TV.

Looks good.
What changes to your setup did you need to do when changing from a 4805 to your new pj as far as location?

Did you change the location of the mount, or is the throw similar?

Thanks ;) .

The HC3000 has a different throw than the 4805 for both offset and distance . I had to move the mount back and the screen sits lower . I did not have this size screen with the 4805 however , I was only using an 84" 16:9 screen with the 4805 .

--- The upgrade to the HC3000 was substantial for HD gaming and other HiDef sources but for DVD viewing there really are very limited benefits (even though my DVD source is a fully tweaked HTPC) . As a matter of fact I now notice all the flaws in DVD's much more often (vs. viewing on the 4805) .

--- The Xbox 360 on a 720p DLP is just fantastic and the immersion of a screen this size is astounding (even though it does sacrifice some image quality vs. a smaller screen) .

--- If you are considering an upgrade to 720p then take a look at the IN76 , I think the offset is similar to that of the 4805 (not sure about the throw however) .

Hey Chris Rein I have a 55" Mits also and never realized that I couldn't see that blue line that went around the whole image in GRAW until I played it on my PC monitor... My picture looks just like his.. Of course my HDTV is over 5 yrs old so maybe it's either that or Mits has a problem with it.... Model WS-88519

His tv is probably like mine and Zoom isn't a feature for HD...
My set was the same way as well. Toshiba 57hx83 CRT Rear Projection. Only bad on HD material. I actually had a service tech come out and fix the overscan just last weekend since it's still on warranty. All he did was go into the service menu and adjust the height and width.

I have the XBR 960 too. Game's look spectacular. Just wish I could get rid of the blue bloom in the upper left-hand corner. It gets bad with scenes of high brightness. I know there's a way to fix this in the service menu, but I'm too much of a wuss to go in there.

Mine isn't quite there yet, but I will be playing on a 106" screen, using a Panny AE900 projector. Carpet comes next week, so as soon as it is in, I will get everything rigged up (have the entire 7.1 system sitting in my foyer right now) and get some pictures posted. Can't wait to put Oblivion up on the big screen...

One question though, does this tv have a digital hd tuner? I can search for HD channels through my cable wire but it doesnt find any digital channels. I have the cable going through the VHF connection on the back fo the tv.

btw, i have basic comcast cable channels 1-20 and a few others like Travel Channel, very basic cable.

Thanks for all your help guys.

If it had a digital HD tuner it may only work over antenna and if it was compatible with your cable system you may need a cablecard from the cable company.

Okay if you have basic cable you are not recieving HD or digital channels in order to get your HD channels you either have to get the HD Box and connect by Component or DVI/HDMI or the Digital Cable card if your tv supports it otherwise you are not getting HD. If it is just basic service you have to upgrade to get the HD service. it says ESPN HD because it is broadcasting the same shows and time as the HD channel thats why they are saying you have to pay more.

Not the right topic for this, but with basic cable, the cable company is required (don't quote me on this ;) ) to include HD channels which can be picked up WITHOUT a cable box or Cable card, using a QAM/ATSC tuner. Trust me ... I have 6-7 HD channels with my Basic Cable package :)

Actually with basic cable i can pick up all the Local HD channels like abc, fox, cbs. My tv has a built in HD Tuner. You CAN have HD over the air and without component or dvi.

How can you have a dreamcast and not a PS2. Dreamcast died years ago and for good reason, it was garbage, no games to play, and that is what consoles are all about. So I know that Cast is just sitting there.

Still makes the PS2 look chump-style, though. Run it in VGA mode for best results. REALLY wish I still had mine; may have to find one at a game shop someplace...

Sad that little troll kiddies have to open their mouths.

Oblivion is like a whole new game. I've gone back and started playing Ghost Recon on hard, just because I wanted to see the game again on the new tv.

For all of you that are skeptical about A10s, they are amazing low-budget HDTVs. And OTA HD looks sooo killer!

Again I was responding about the SERViCE with the cable provider. Having a QUAM tuner OR/AND off-air antenna will give you free hd channels. Which have nothing to do with cable or satelitte to recieve. I never said you couldn't get it without the box but you can't get it through the cable or satelite providers without there box or card. That means if you upgraded too the HD package you wouldn't be using the off-air antenna you would be getting your locals through the card or HD box and not require the antenna although that is free. That was the point I was making is all.

Jason, I wasn't taking the Mitsu very seriously until I saw the real contrast numbers that Cine4Home measured- seems better than most Darkchip 2's I've read about. I'll be interested in seeing what Ekkehart gets in terms of real CR from the IN76, but the HC3000 is looking better all the time for the price.

BTW, why the switch from the HCCV screen material?

The HC3000 is not really given enough credit and I think I have a pretty good idea why this is so most of the time . Most people miss the Overscan setting that is kind of hidden somewhat deep within the options , I missed it at first as well . The out of the box settings are not accurate and really requires an ISF level calibration to show what it can do . After proper set-up and calibration the HC3000 is one amazing unit and it would be very tough to beat at its current price point (as a matter of fact I do not think anything out there could beat it for the same street price) .

I actually only used the HCCV for about a week (a long time ago) . I tried just about all the major grey screens out there except the Stewart and they all produced that 'dirty sheen' look due to the gain aspect of the screen . The benefits of a flat grey screen would be exceptional IMO , if one existed (maybe the Stewart is flat grey with no gain?) . I found myself returning to a DIY BOC screen after trying all the grey offerings . I now use a HiPower and think it is great screen even though not the best with those white walls and especially white ceilings when the PJ is ceiling mounted since it reflects back towards the PJ ;) .

My set-up has actually changed a little over the last month or so , here is a current pic .

Well I FINALLY made the plunge! I had been waiting for my bestbuy 12% coupon and it finally came in last weekend (on my birthday too :p ). I didn't want to have to buy an all new entertainment center, so I "modded" my existing ecenter and had just enough space for the sony 50A10. I got the coupon on thursday and checked the local BB to make sure it was in stock. When I checked that night it was in stock and $2300...when I checked friday morning it was in stock and $2000! Sweet, a $300 dollar price drop overnight  ! I left work as soon as BB opened and when I went to pay for the TV they took the 12% off the sale price of $1889, so I walked out the door with it for $1670!
This was the bestest birthday ever! :D :D

EDIT: how do you get the pic to show in the post??

No pics yet, but i'm using a Sony 34" XBR960, of which is unmatched by any HDTV under 40".

I searched for months last fall, until i seen the 960 in stock at BestBuy and less then 10 min's later i had the unit paid for. It's picture quality is unmatched by any LCD or other type of HDTV..under 40", that's on the market.

And I don't need to worry about burn in(Plasma), Rainbow effects, or slow response time(noticable on even the best 6-8ms LCD's) of the LCD's, and while it's 1080i native, running 360 games are unmatched in 1080i upconverted compared to 720p native, for most other HDTV's. (i brought my 360 in store to test every tv)

Nothing under 40" can touch this GOD like HDTV, which ran a decently priced $1500.

Three friends and a few relatives who swore by LCD's/Plasma'/DLP's have seen this set and were amazed how great the picture quality was, to the point two of them picked up the same set for their den, before they were out of stock.

Unless you had seen this HDTV in store, you missed out on the best HDTV..under 40", possibly ever made.

My set-up has actually changed a little over the last month or so , here is a current pic .

What dagamepimp isn't telling you is that he plays his Xbox 360 on the little TV to the right of the big screen. LOL.

I wish I had something like he had. My wife would kill me. :)

Ok, so here's what I have. It's not much, but I call it home:

Hitachi 65SWX20B. Not DLP, but it does the job. I also use a Yamaha RX-V800 DD/DTS receiver and Bose speakers all the way around.

Oh yeah, and the kid in my blade picture is my son Jacob. Hopefully the heir to the Next Level Gaming empire. Heheheheh

Hey Jason....how does the HiPower work with ceiling mounting of the PJ? I used to have my PJ tabletop but I'm moving it up, and I heard the hipower is not the best for ceiling mounted PJs.

Got any suggestions? I can paint my ceilings walls any color. I rule my house!! WAF does not apply in my theater!

My PJ is a 4805

Well the HP screen works great either way it's just that you lose most of the gain and it ends up at about a 1.4 gain when ceiling mounted .

If you can paint the ceiling flat black then by all means DO IT :D .

She actually said to me a couple months ago "You know, I'm glad we got this size TV. I couldn't see us enjoying anything smaller."

I think he is more proud of his system than arrogant. He even admitted that there would be better systems than his. The thing is, you don't have to be ultra rich to have a top 10% audiophile/videophile system in terms of quality. It doesn't always scale linearly. For example, I visited some boutique audio brand displays at CES - particularly McIntosh comes to my mind immediately, as shown below. The setup had a bazillion watts of power and more than a hundred drivers in total in ceiling high towers, running off of some uber audio source.. When the audio started playing, I instantaneously felt that it 'sucked' (pun intended). For all the 'price-no-bar' gadgetry in that hall, it did not give me the same feeling as when I was listening to my favorite SACD on B&W floorstanding speakers powered by a humble Denon receiver and a run-of-the-mill Sony SACD player. Sure, the McIntosh setup would blow away my humble reference setup in terms of price, but in terms of quality?? Not to the same extent.

McIntosh's uber audio setup from their CES booth

would you mind letting me know which B&W speakers and Denon receiver you are running. I'm about to run something similiar and I'ld like to get your feedback on how you like it

My set post-calibration (XBR 960) settled somewhere between warm and medium. Warm was way off, as were the others, but warm (i think) was closest to 6500 kelvin. YMMV.

I tried some of the calibrations people posted and I didn't like them. My tv looked more normal rather than a HDTV. I have a certain idea of what looks HD to me, usually pretty bright and colorful. At least that was for television viewing. I totoally forgot about the component outputs lol. I guess I will have to tweak it.

Oh yeah, man. You have to use component if you want to enjoy 360 in HD. Be sure to set your system to 720p, as your set is 720p native. Also, you might want to see what differences, if any, a VGA connection will give you. I suspect VGA might be the way to go on your TV. MS fixed the VGA wash-out problem with the new 360 update as well. Try 'em both and report back to us!

In all actuality I game on a 52 inch JVC D-ILA from about 10 feet. I don't have the awesome setups like most here but I consider it pretty damn decent. I use a Pioneer AV reciever for audio and KLH speakers 5.1 setup. My next upgrade is probably gonna be a reciever with HDMI ins/outs, I like the Yamahas I have looked at.

The blur or ghost is the camera. It is damn hard to capture good images of the games in true action. I am not capturing things within game, I am capturing externally with the camera. Lights down, TV in its normal mode, the Canon PowerShot on a tripod with the flash off and its exposure time at the minimal speed it can handle and still get a decent picture. Anyway, it's not the SXRD.

And someone else addressed it, but I will confirm, that SXRD displays in 1080p but Xbox 360 puts out at 1080i. So, call it what you will, but I go by the source. If the source is 1080i, then I say, you're looking at 1080i.

OK, so others have also asked for more shots of games. What games do people want to see? I don't have them all, but I have several titles and demos. Anybody want to see the Full Auto demo? I will put them up on Saturday night...

This post was some time ago but for the record, the 3rd pic from DoA4 in question is of a move where Kasumi produces an intentional ghosting effect on the move. It is not a ghosting effect from the camera or the display.

So, you are saying it is unmatched? ;)

I wouldn't be impressed by the display in the pictures... it's the photographer. ;)

Taking a decent photo of a TV is only for the very skilled shutterbug. Even the best displays can look like crap through the viewfinder of most of us. :o

And here is a shot from Call of Duty 2 on the same screen. What you can't see are the unused portions of the 2.35 screen at the sides. This is equivilant to about 110" 16x9 screen.
