Doesn't the bottom of your 360 heat up the onkyo a bit?

It does quite a bit actually. I wanted to have the 360 by itself on the top shelf, but the cable box gets crazy hot. Way hotter than the 360, so I rather everything has an equal ammount of space to breathe. I have to buy something with more shelfs to put things on.

for the time being you could scoot the onkyo to the right and put the 360 vertical on the left. don't want to get any red rings.

I figured that, but am deathly afraid of someone knocking it over. I've seen pics of people putting it behind their TVs. I might give that a shot. I could also put it next to the TV, where the speaker is.

Edit: Well there we go. I remember now that I never did this because the fiber cable I had was the one that came with the receiver and was only 3in long. So I bought a 6ft one later on and forgot why. I like this a lot better.

Quicksilver, nice setup. I would advise against putting anything on top of your cable box, becuase they get extremely hot.

Hi all,

Just yesterday, my receiver started overheating. Belive it or not this is the first time this has happened as I just put together my living room HT about a few weeks ago and it just recently started getting very hot where I live and we do not have AC.

I believe part of the problem is what you said above, the cable box is at the bottom of the stack and it runs extremely hot. I think the other part of the problem is that the hot air rises and stays at the top of the enclosure, right where the receiver sits and the receiver runs pretty hot as it is. This, coupled with the fact that its just genuinely hot in my area and no AC is leading to the overheating.

Question, anybody have a solution or idea to improve air ventilation in my Audio/video shelf? I have thought of the obvious, manufacturing something along the lines of the Xbox 360 intercooler (3 computer fans and a casing) but I was looking for something a little more specifically designed for this type of application.

Also, I have changed the order of where the components are located and they should run cooler, but I'd rather be safe than sorry if you know what I mean.

Sorry for the length and thanks for any help.

The best thing to do is at the very begining of the fight you'll notice that he lowers his head to the ground for a few seconds. Run up to his head and go to town on him. This will take away about a quarter of his strength. You have to be quick about this though.

The worst place to be in this battle is the ground. Get on the platforms that raise you in the air. Being up high like this limits his attacks. He can still do his biting attack which is the worst one by far. Two ways to avoid this. One, just simply watch for it and dodge it. Once you dodge it you leave him open for attack. Two, if you can't dodge it and see him coming, hit your magic button real quick and it will make you temporary invincible. So when he tries to bite you he can't. Then swing like crazy on his head.

But the most important thing to remember is at the very beginning of this fight, run up to his head and swing like crazy. This takes away a good bit of his health. I have also heard some people talk about using the APFSDS arrows as well. If you hit him in the head with 15 of them you can get him down to 75% of his health left. This is all before you actually have to start swinging your sword.

Just practice dodging that stupid BITE he does and you'll destroy him. Like I said the magic is a good way to save your ass if your having trouble dodging that attack.

Just wait, after you beat him, you have some good surprises waiting for you. Especially a new enemy coming up that can be a real pain in the ass and there are hundreds of them in areas. One word: FISH.

Thanks for the tips. I will try them out if nobody's playing Halo 2 today. I've already beaten the whole game on the regular version. I was trying to rebeat it again on the Black version. I loved killing all the fish. I just use the bladed nunchucks, and go to town on them.

I absolutely love it. My favorite thing is the fantastic black levels. Great PQ. When I got the TV all I did was turn down contrast and the PQ already looked awesome. Then a few days later I sat down and calibrated using my Avia disc and then watching HD and DVDs just looked amazing.

I'm extremely happy with the TV choice, my only complaint is not having picture in picture, so you can see how happy I am with it :p

Also, I got it when BB had it on sale for $3060. But if you get coupons from BB in the mail for 10%, its the same thing. I dont know how much you're looking to spend, but I just wanted to point that out.

I have the HLS5687W and I completely love mine. Like Taha said, the only downside is no PIP but the PQ and black levels will really blow you away. Also, these TV's handle SD really, really well. I have a 30" Sony HD CRT upstairs and SD looks like junk on it, but on my Sammy, it looks pretty good.

Meh, that's the phone they gave me from work. I'm gonna see if I get them to give me a Palm Treo instead, I some times don't get emails until hours after they are sent. Don't know why... plus I think that the Treo is way cooler.

Tell the guys at work to find out what they did to screw up your BES. Treo is a BRICK compared to the 7100. Heaver and blockier. Nice as hell screen though.

Thanks Taha and Quickzilver. I'm looking at the 50inch version. I went to Circuit City today actually and they had the HL-S5087W listed for $2449.99. Was almost tempted to buy it and put it in storage.....lol. But I won't be in my new apartment until February/March at the earliest, so I can wait, and who nows how much cheaper it will be by then!!

Well see, if I left out the dvds someone would have said 'you should set your white level to prevent burn in' ,so, by teliing him to use it he would have been pampering his display by avoiding white or black crush etc.

I should preface these pictures with the fact that my digital camera is like 10 years old and only does 2.1 mpixels. So, that being said, I would just like to say that these pics don't really do my HT justice. Enjoy though.

Yea that's the Saint's Row Demo. I think Hitman may actually look a bit better than Saint's Row. That demo doesn't look all the great plus the demo is pretty glitchy.

Here's a shot of my home theater room. It was designed with movie watching and music listening in mind, but works great for gaming too. I have a PAnasonic PT-AE900 projector projecting on to a Da-Lite High Contrast Da-Mat 106" diagnoal screen at the front of the room.

I still haven't perfected taking screenshots with my digital camera, the shots don't seem to do it justice, but the games look great. (I'll see if I can do better and update my post if I can) On a creen this big, the enhanced graphics and resolution of the new 360 games really helps - old XBOX games blown up this big don't look nearly as good.

I took a pic on my set set on vivid to see if I could get my black as detailed like yours. And the VIVID Setting was the one that looked closets to your Mass Effect pic. Iknow your set is just better technology so it's all good.

I was under the impression that the A20 were inferior to the A10. Thanks, your shot looks good too. I have only had it for a week and am neck deep in tweaking it. I found some corresponding tweaks to Dark Rains in the A20 service menu but no luck with the red push fix. I do not see it anyways. The set is backlit if that helps.

Best LCD for gaming! I know the response time is listed at 8ms, but I've heard there are two different ways of measuring that response time. And the Bravia uses the honest scale of 8 ms... seriously, its the fastest response time I've seen (or never saw if you think about it). The only game I could get any bluring to pop up in was Geometry Wars, and even there its just ever so slight. I can spin in circles in FPS's and stay oriented.
I haven't had the set calibrated yet either, so it can only get better.

The XBR2 also comes equipped with a game-mode that allows you to turn off any extra filtering that the set would normally use for tv/movies.

Being a serious gamer myself, I know I made the right choice.

Congrats man! I hear you, that is why I bought last year. I figured the 720p generation was about as good as it was going to get and this set would hold me over until the 1080p sets had matured and come down in price in 3 years or so. Hopefully a 50" SED will be obtainable for about 3k in 3 years time.

This is a 110" diagonal image on a 120" 4:3 - 1.5 Gain Pulldown Da-Lite screen I've purchased for testing until I get into my larger space where I'll move to the new SMX-720 acoustically transparent screen and a 140" to 165" screen.

Love the Syntax, blacks could be a little blacker but apparently that's not unusual for LCD. Regular TV looks good, HD TV looks great, DVD's look great, 360 looks great. For the price it is available for online today it is a steal.

IMO if the choice was between projector or LCD it would depend on what I did most of, if watching movies then projector. If playing 360 and watching tv I'd go the LCD route. I played the 360 soley on my PJ up until recently but found myself obsessing about bulb life. Room size/seating position is important too.

I guess that'd be a matter of opinion, I prefer the TV personally, at least for the 360. Unfortunately, the pictures make the LCD look too bright and the PJ look too dark so I know it's hard to judge by them.

Most of those guys are testers or developers. If you look at their games, most are not even out yet.

That is far far far from the truth. A lot of them are students with too much free time and not a single one of them a game developers. Do you think a developer has this much free time? I have played with some of them to get achievements before and they are average joes with one thing in mind....achievements. One site has interviews with most of them just in case you want to read up on them. I think its top360tag.

edit-most of those games are japanese or euro releases, they simply have another account in order to get some games or import them here.

Thanks I usually play a couple hours a night but I don't actively just go for achievement points. The reason I have so many points is I have alot of games. If you check my gamertag at http://www.top360tag.com/FindGamertag.aspx?sess=true you'll see I've actually only finished a few games 100%.

I'm sure I'll hit 20K by the end of September though as I'm planning on picking up a few games in the next couple of months.

I wish I had the kind of time to play games as the top players but I wonder how much they really enjoy the games playing just for points like that.

Its a wolf in sheeps clothing. It has kind of a cool story. it was inspired from the design of deep sea pressure vessels (hence "PV" 1). It features ICE power designed by Bang and Olufson and can output 500 watts of power. Compared to other subs its considred to be very musical and extreemly accurat, but a little pricey compared to subs that can shake windows...not that this one cant. An interesting thing about it is that even at full blast you cant feel any vibrations if you place your hand on it..only from the drivers. This is grat for appartments. It has also won the ESIA sub of the yer award.

Looks good, sounds good, is designed good, but may be pricey based on pure performance.

If you're open to a suggestion, then I would recommend on getting an Omnimount Center stand that is designed for tvs that have a slope in the back, which your case does. Your center channel would sound a whole lot better than having it tucked underneath.

That is exactly what I did with my Sony KFE42A10. I have a paradigm CC-370 Center and the mount i used fits it perfectly. I think it was only like 30 bucks when I got it. I do worry about the weaight of the unit on the tv bezel.

I was about to say the sun being right there must suck, you would almost need to have the curtains closed all the time when watching tv.

Actually it is only bad aroudn supper time at this time of year when the sun is right on my deck. I do close the curtains when I watch tv at that time. The thing is I usually am not home until after the sun has gone down. As u can see I have nice dark curtains and they do a good job of keeping the light to a minimum. Unfortunately it is the only way to have my HT setup in my living room with the layout of the room and the woodstove.

The only bother is some video noise with dark dark scenes (as expected with some DLP's) but it will keep me happy (heck, I'm only 19) for a long time I expect.

This is just for testing. I'm using a 7.4 system for the finished product once I move the PJ into the new home. I'll be using the 333 on a 150" to 165" 16:9 SMX acoustically transparent screen. All the details are in my construction thread in the games and theater construction forum so I won't go into it in detail but this is just a temporary testing room for a few months while my house is been built. The new speakers and subs to be used with this system are all in-wall so I can't use them until they are installed.

I just went to Home depot grabbed some 4" or 5" thick baseboard (MDF the cheapest they had) and a can of flat black spray paint. Total cost $13 bucks :D Looks pretty decent. The black throws I picked up locally at a Costco for $19.99 each and combined they help a lot :) the image is far better with no light reflections.

I've looked into getting the BEHR Silverscreen or the Goo stuff - but I'm happy with the picture so I don't know if it would be worth the trouble. Plus I'd like to move everything into the basment once it finished.

The Headboard of the bed sits about 24 feet away from that far wall so watching tv in bed on anything under than a 65" screen would be pretty tough. There was no way I wanted to carry a 65" RPTV up a flight of stairs when I could get anywhere from 100" - 150" for the same price if not cheaper.

The projector was actually pretty cheap. It's my first projector and I got it about 4 months ago. It has since been discontinued. The bang for the buck on this projector is out of this world. stupid question, how does it show up with such as great sharp picture without even being a 720p projector. I assume you are running at 480p? That is just a great deal after looking at that projected image.

I have the 360, an HDMI upconverting DVD player, and my HD cable box all outputting at 1080i. I don't know how it works, I just know that all the reviews I read stated that the HD picture on this projector was comparable to some of the 720p projectors which could cost anywhere from $500-$1500 more. This being my first projector, I took the bargain projector under the premise that if I wasn't 100% satisfied, I could return the product to Costco. Obviously, I am 110% satisfied.

Haha, long story. My xbox 360 was inside the TV stand and kept overheating so I tried to elevate it by putting it on top of a VHS tape and it didn't help---so I now have it on the top---but didn't remove the VHS tape before I took the picture.

this is not pointing fingers at anyone but,
people need to learn to stop quoting an entire picture post, just use 1-2 images or none, I see the same pictures over and over and over again on every page. Most of the questions and comments are overshadowed or not even seen because of post after post of quoting with every single picutre attached.

No, thats a KDFE42A10 I got it back in May. I may get a 50A10 if I can find one and if I can't I'll go for the 55E20 but probably not for another year. I'll enjoy this 42" for a bit.

Oops, wrong person. Anyways, it's the camera. They're "brown," not red. haha. I'm using an older sony digital camera. It's notorious for pushing reds.

cedclark nice screens, but is there a reason you have it on Vivid mode? You can have more customization if you put it on custom mode.

I use vivid mode because the textures stand out more...and the colors have a "pop" to them...
And for them being blurry its b/c some of those games have motion blur and I took the pictures by hand and cant forget the fact all those pics but the madden ones the games were in motion when i took them.

anyway, i read a couple of other threads about taking the pics and i guess a tripod is the way to go...any other tricks?

as a sort of OT aside, another hobby of mine is mountain biking, and in the mags i read i often wondered how they got the bikes to stand perfectly straight in the pictures for reviews and whatnot without anything or anybody holding them. a couple of months ago a user wrote in with the very same question and they revealed their trick. the photographer readies the camera while someone stands just out of the frame carefully balancing the bike with their hands. the photog counts out 1-2-3 and the assistant quickly lets go of the bike and gets out of the way. in the split second before the bike starts to fall to the ground, the photographer snaps the picture...

^^lol i was thinking the same thing to if he was holding up his tv with the 360 box.........yea and dont forget those photographers use those like freakin huge lens digital cameras thats like 10 megapixels

My settings are:
Mode: Custom (tried movie and game modes, didn't like 'em)
Contrast: 92 (high, I know, but it makes games pop)
Brightness: 40
Color: 40
Sharpness: 20
Color temp: warm 2
Energy saving: off for these pictures, usually medium at night
Digital NR: off

Aleman, VGA makes a huge difference at least to me. Colors are not dull with samsung lcd's, and the sharpness is huge. I have the microsoft cable. just make sure you adjust your lcd's pc settings as to get things sharper. use auto adjust if you don't want to stare at pixels to perfectly match 1360x768.
My settings:In CUSTOM contrast 95, brightness 70( any lower and you will lose detail in some games ie FN3), cool1 for color (more videogame like colors), and low energy savings backlight.

CommanderCool, check out Costo. Vizio 42" Plasma with NTSC, ATSC, QAM for an excellent price. Sometimes they have coupons as well. I've also seen the 42" Vizio LCD on sale for the same price (usually about $300 more than the Plasma).

hehe, but the box is holding the shelf up because the TV is too heavy for it. It used to be for my 23 inch Sammy but I got rid of that (too small for games).

Why would you care? Personally I like to see what the comments refer to, and dont find it much of an issue to scroll down a few extra inches.

I just got a new camera, the Sony DSC-N1. It is 8.1 megapixels, but I am having a little touble taking good pics. I get these scrolling diagonal lines (you can see them in the shirts). Is it because I am taking pics of an LCD? I am using the timer with a tripod. Any Help?
