The furniture leaves a lot to be desired, IMHO :D .
JonDotCom 08-31-06, 12:33 AM TRALFAZ, where do you get that stuff?! I'd think that sort of house and addiction would get you on Dr Phil :).

ogbuehi 08-31-06, 08:30 AM HEY GUYS AND GALS. IF YOU REPLIED WITH THE LARGE PHOTOS, Please go edit your post and remove the PICS. You can do this!
Thank you for this. It was pretty ridiculous to look at the same post over because people just replied to the whole thing.
ogbuehi 08-31-06, 08:35 AM I would also be nice if people took photos of their setup, not just the screen. We all know the 360 is capable of HD resolutions. What the thread was designed for originally was to let us see how different people are gaming, not just the display capabilities of the tv itself.
Amadeuz 08-31-06, 12:01 PM Here are a couple pics of my KDS-60a2000 in my living room
I love this TV.. if you want some more pics just say the word!
jacob, can u please post more pictures ? I'm gonna buy the 55 version and I would love some more xbox 360 shots from this tv. I don't think anyone else has posted pictures from this screen.
I finally broke out the 20D and took some shots of K-dizzle =)

I just got a new camera, the Sony DSC-N1. It is 8.1 megapixels, but I am having a little touble taking good pics. I get these scrolling diagonal lines (you can see them in the shirts). Is it because I am taking pics of an LCD? I am using the timer with a tripod. Any Help?

Its a Sony Bravia XBR1. I am starting to think the lines are caused by my camera. It takes great pics of everything else. I only need shots of my setup for this thread, so I guess its ok ;)

Are you sure you have your DVD player setup on 16x9 mode? Spiderman is a 1.85:1 transfer and shouldn't have black bars like that. It also looks slightly stretched, which supports that idea......having the DVD player on 4x3 mode would make it look like that.

I have everything setup correctly, you are just seeing the black bars on the screen blending in with the black outline around the tv. Awesome black levels huh? Or its probably my limited photography skills. :p

I meant "low end" as relative to the many avs forum members who have 50 inch + plasmas or projectors over $5000 on 100" screens. :o

i have seen them and you're right, some of these are unbelievable. but you've got to understand that this forum is dedicated to the hardest of hardcore av enthusiasts. what's here is not a representative sampling of theater setups in general. remember everything is relative. i know of an alarmingly high number of people who had to run out and buy rf adapters for their 360s
i know an AVID videogame nut who's main gaming rig is a 13" GXTV, complete with one of the folding speakers that doesn't work...
i have a friend who has his 360 hooked up to a 20" toshiba sdtv
like i said here a few months ago, i think each and every poster here, from the guy with the $100,000 theater to the guy with the $20,000 vandersteens to the guy with the $900 26" samsung lcd in his bedroom with complete with puffy cloud sheets should be very proud of their setup. trust me, nobody here is low end.
MrMagoo2U 09-01-06, 04:57 PM Hey, can someone who owns a 37" lcd hdtv post some pics. I'm looking to buy either the sharp 37d40u or the hitachi hdl52 ultravision. Just need some perspective. Thanks.
maverick0716 09-01-06, 04:58 PM Tsixp - You know you can take the 3LCD sticker off the bottom right corner of the TV without it making a mark (or leaving the back of the sticker). I took mine off as soon as I got it and I just wiped it with a damp cloth and there was nothing left behind......unless you like the sticker being there that is. :)
lastplace 09-01-06, 04:59 PM tsixp,
I pulled those stickers (3lcd) off my 50a10 and it has a clearner look.
Midnight55 09-01-06, 05:29 PM Here is my setup. I just got the tv which is a Samsung hls-6187, my first HDTV :D , and I am loving it and have experienced no lag what so ever. I just wished I could of taken better pictures because they do not do it justice.

I think they work very well too. Can't ask for more for less then $200. They work fine for me. Any better speakers would probably be wasted since I use a Radio Shack wireless setup for my rear speakers. The wireless amplifier only provides 25 watts per channel which works very well for these small budget sony speakers.
A few more digital inputs would be nice but I just got a radio shack 3 input, 1 output optical switch off of ebay for only $10. Can't believe radio shack use to make these good products like the wireless rear speaker amplifier and an optical switch and no idea why they chose to discontinue them.
The picture quality looks great, but I do see some stretching of the image. I took the same exact pictures you took just to show you what the unstretched image would look like.
You were right, I played the dvd again and now it looked fine. I must of had the tv set to just or another strecth mode when I took the picture. Might be the dvd player too since my tosiba dvd recorders/ VCR's isn't that great. The player strecthes all 4:3 material into wide screen and not pillar boxing them like other dvd players I had.

If you have your DVD player/recorder going through HDMI that's probably why it forces 4x3 material to 16x9. A lot of HDMI inputs do that.

Nope, it doesn't have HDMI output, only component. And when I enable progressive scan, the dark levels gets messed up too and becomes much lighter. I could live with it though since I'm planning to get a HD DVD player when they get a little cheaper and slimmer.

Having 2 HD definitely doesn't get out of the low end just because there are people using rf adapters with their 360. And this site isn't dedicated to just the hardcore. It's for people who have a general interest in AV topics. I'm far from a hardcore enthusiast. I'm just a little more informed than others choose to be.

HannibalTheCanni 09-04-06, 09:17 PM Hey guys I am new to the forum. Those are some nice set ups. I am an electrician and in the last year I have installed 10 or more plasmas and a couple of LCD's. I myself do not own an HDTV yet (one month left). When I say install, I mean wall mounted with all digital cables hidden in the wall, with hidden Ir for extended remote capability, and ceiling and wall mounted speakers. My resume also includes a recent $12K installation:
I myself have a crappy 27" sears special (CRT) apex digital LOL so dont take too much stock in what I say. All I am saying is I am an independant electrician and have seen a lot of different tvs, and setups
My point is, in my honest opinion the installations that are less cluttered are most effective. I do not like the "Alters" that look like worship sites :)
I think with a little time and effort you can create a stealth installation. If you have a closet behind your living room wall USE IT. You can hide a small "eye" to control all of your equipment. I like the paintable Yamaha speakers, as well as Denon. You cant see em but you can feel em !!!
I am currently researching a HDTV LVD in my range (<$2k) and came across this forum. I just wanted to share my thoughts with you. I really like your HD theater setups. All of them currently beat mine. I wish I would have taken pictures of all my installations. AS a matter of fact I am going to house where I installed a 50" Mitsubishi Diamond (or medallion I cant remember) series ($6500US). I will take a snap shot for you.
I am now offically bitten by the HD thing. :(
Midnight55 09-05-06, 05:46 PM I plan to get the 5687 pretty soon. How are you liking the 6187?
Hello Rocko,
I am loving my 6187. Every game I have played wether they be a 360 game or an original xbox game looks and feels spot on. As I have said before I have experienced zero lag on any of my games. I do have the "game mode" turned on for my component inputs although from what others have said it isn't necessary as they haven't had any lag with it off, but I figured that is what it was designed for so I'll turn it on. Also I had my display calibrated and I thought the picture was great before for games, it is now incredible. So enjoy your 5678 when you get it, you won't be disappointed with it, I know I'm not.

It is actually a picture mode, just within a different menu. It changes the colors, etc. so you are probably not getting your calibrated settings when using the game mode. Basically all it does is turn off DNIe and DNR and over-accentuates colors. Your calibrationist most likely turned off DNIe and DNR anyway. Hope you enjoy your new set.
PS: Have you noticed any smudges on the screen or the silk screen effect? Also, how is the geometry of your TV?

Hello Rocko,
Thanks for the info. I didn't realize that game mode adjusted the colors. I thought it just essentially shortened the digital path. And yes my calibrationist did turn off the other items in the service menu. :) So I guess I will be turning the game mode off.
As far as smudges, I have noticed any. And I did bring up a whitefield screen, so I guess I got lucky. I have only really noticed the silk screen effect when it came out of the box, while the contrast and brightness were extremely high. And even then it was on a channel that I think didn't get the full signal. However, since the calibration, I haven't noticed the effect. Also, the geometry isn't that bad to me. Granted there is a pincushion effect but it is slight and not distracting to me.
Enjoy your new set, and I hope you don't have any smudges.

wooah ? Its the best single player experience for the xbox 360 period.. Do yourself a favor and buy this game, its one of the best xbox 360 games out there. And I have 12 games :)
Unless you don't like a story driven, creepy, csi, first person shooter type of game..
But I gotta give it to you, that TV is beautiful.. Looks so good.. Can't wait til I get it..
Oh, have you tried to download some movie trailers from the Marketplace ? 720p etc.. How does it look :D

I downloaded cars and the titanic videos, cars looks amazing, titanic looks pretty good... to be honest- the video experience from the sony 1080i upconverting DVD player I have is stunning via HDMI.. it WAY overshadows the xbox360.. which it should.. do yourself a favor and purchase this DVD player.. and a cheap HDMI cable (got mine for 10 bucks at amazon.com (I think tigerdirect had it).. anyways.. you will not be sorry.. and its only 100 bucks.. well worth it in MPO
any other questions.. be happy to help.. just hooked up my dell HTPC via DVI-HDMI cable.. can tell that the screen is tilted a litle but but I found the fix for the on the kds a2000 tweaks thread.. it looks awesome.. but the viewable resolution on this TV is 1827x1024 from overscan.. it is one hell of a computer monitor! want more pics? happy to oblige!

also.. did you like PREY?? I heard it was supposed to be awesome, bought it and playd a little of it- I HATE IT!! I don't want to be some f@ggity indian with an attitude running around shotting stuff.. I love COD2 because it is just a private.. I guess I don't like the extreme stories in videogames.. just my opinion.. how is condemned laid out?

well PREY sucks, I played the demo.. The indian/alien story I don't like at all !
The Condemned game is very intense with an awesome hand to hand combat (Melee weapons sucks as crowbar, Nail,Bolts, paper cutter, sledgehammer) in first person...The stun gun is your best friend ;) You play the role as a chief investigator looking for clues threw the game to hunt down this serial killer.. Along the way you search threw abandon houses, subways, school, apartment store etc. The visuals, story, action , Sound is just great..
Downside, its a bit short... But to get all the achivements etc, you will enjoy playing it over and over again.. (Only Melee wepaons award etc)
You will love it.
If you aren't real intersted in Condemned, give it a rental. You'll probably like it and finish it in a week if you have some time to play. I thought it was a solid game, but nothing I need to own. It has some problems, but for a launch game, it ended up better than I thought. I felt it was too repetitive, but enjoyed it for the most part. I enjoyed turning out the lights late at night and getting into it. I would imagine headphones would make it even better.

it is the DVP-NS75H
i love it.. the add on drive for the xbox will be sweet, but I have always found better quality picture from actual dvd playing devices, no doubt the drive will do its purpose, I am skeptical that you will lose some PQ going through the 360 with components.. no doubt an upconverting DVD player will do the job better-- however the DVP-NS75H it still only supports normal DVDs, so you would be comparing apples to oranges comparing a normal DVD playing device and a true "blu ray" player on the 360

Condemmed is a great game... I didn't think i would enjoy it based on the demo, but I rented it and it sucked me in - one of my favorite rentals!
It does get slightly repetitive in parts, and there's some placed where you can sort of cheat, i.e. on certain maps enemies have boundaries that you don't, so you can find the boundary and just wack 'em!
Sorry, this is OT. :o

I'm not taking anything away from a fine game here. But, there's some minor things that got to me. The movement sometimes can be strange. You can get cornered into an area and sort of get stuck until you manage to break free of the "corner" you're in. This happened some when I was exploring every inch of a level. Repetition was another "problem" to me. I'm talking more along these lines. Not a deal killer by any means.

Obviously it's not going to be $367. But, I think it makes the $250-$300 range more believable than $199. Especially since the Euro and USD price of the system is 399.
rocko1290 09-08-06, 05:24 PM Hello Rocko,
Thanks for the info.
Enjoy your new set, and I hope you don't have any smudges.Ok thanks a lot man. Yes, I am fairly certain that the Samsung game mode messes with the colors. I think I remember seeing it in the review of the HL-S5687W on CNET.com. If you want to make certain, you should go into that Samsung 1080p owners thread over in the rear projection forum, and they will tell you for sure.
Thanks

Harmony 880 remote....
I've been close to pulling the trigger on the 880. I've never found a universal remote that took care of everything, so I guess I'm just hesitate of buying yet another one. Had the Sony touchscreen one a couple years back, and a great learning remote a couple years before that. Still, none of the had everything I needed.
Poolshark69 09-11-06, 12:59 PM I have the 880 and it runs everything in my setup just fine. You can see my components in my signature. That's funny I also had the Sony Touchscreen remote a few years back. I had the AVR-3000...great remote...just needed an 18 wheeler to use it.
Things that concern me are buttons like OnDemand, arrow keys for the cable box, surround mode button on the receiver, etc. And, even if getting the button programmed is no problem, can I label it somehow? That first nice learning remote was great, but I had quite a few buttons mapped to places only I knew about.
Got any comments on things like that? Might help me decide to get one and give it a try. I guess those sort of things is what makes me hesitate and I've never seen the 880 in action. Thanks for any input you might have. First time I've gotten to speak with an owner that has a similar type setup.
Poolshark69 09-11-06, 01:26 PM Yes you can setup buttons that perform certain functions. The thing to remember about a harmony remote is that it is activity based. So I hit Watch TV button and it turns my system on. Sets the input on the TV to SAT and tunes the yammie to the correct input if not already set. I have set up buttons on the LCD screen that will go direct ot my favorite channels such as "golf channel" , "TSN" etc.
Everything is setup through a web interface so it will allow you to re-map any keys you want to other functions. You can take a test drive of the site and see how it performs over at logitech.com
All the discrete commands are setup for your device online by model number. It knew all the commands for my Yamaha RX-V1500 the first time I set it up. I think it had the most commands needed. My Sony KFE42A10 was second and it setup all the commands on the remote as well.
Logitech Support is excellent as well if you ever need to call.

Harmony 880 remote....
This is the '360' thread. Go for the 360 remote. I have 2. I didn't like the 880 because the transport keys are lower then on the 360. I also like my keys separate with individual buttons instead of touching each other. Sure it doesn't have the fancy color screen and rechargable battery, but the color LCD screen isn't as good as it looks in the photos anyway. If you have more than 12 devices, then the 360 won't work for you. I think the 880 controls 15 devices and also has a 'guide' feature that the 360 doesn't.
Does your DVR use colored A, B, and C keys? Mine does and they match perfectly with the colored keys from the motorola dvr remote!
Get the 360 remote instead of the 880 and buy a game with the money you'll save!
Actually, you can't go wrong with any Logitech/Harmony remote. I've owned both and just prefer the 360 remote. :)

Next time the the 880s are on sale for ~ $100, I'll probably bite. If I can get the 360 one first for a good price, I might give it a shot.

It took some doing. What I ended up doing was running the component cables from my 360 into my AV receiver and then going from the receiver to the TV. The wireless controllers work great from anywhere in the room.

Jason,
Thanks for the link. I'm going to give the manufacturer a call and see if it's sold elsewhere since we don't have a Fry's on the East Coast. It's just what I've been looking for but haven't had much luck finding, a simple clean design with deep shelves and a low profile. I came across a few that were close to a $1K and they didn't look nearly as nice. I agree that it looks much better without the glass doors plus gives you better airflow. I'm sure you're enjoying your secondary setup. It looks pretty sweet. :)

Sounds cool :) .
My place is hardly a palace :) just a normal , average , everyday apartment with many cool toys inside ;) . We were going to get the new house this year but with the market being so high right now we decided to wait for the drop (things are estimated to be about $50k too high right now , at least in my area) . That extra $50K goes a long way , an extra bedroom & bathroom plus more sq. footage overall (we are looking in the 3000 sq.ft range as well) .

Well it became apparent I needed my own 360 when my wife got additicted to Zuma, Bejewled 2, and Jewel Quest! My 360 time was cut back to almost zero. "Honey can I play Zuma?" became a nightly thing afteer our son went to sleep! Plus we use her's as the Media Center Extender for our living room. :D

curtis104 09-27-06, 10:42 AM I have that same Onkyo Home Theater In a Box at my G/F. I think they are a good starter system for the price you pay. I purchased it 2 years ago and it was a 6.1 AV Receiver and speakers for $350.00. Definitely worth the purchase.
At my house I have a Pioneer 1014 AV Receiver with a 6.1 Athena Speaker setup.

It's preferable to cut the light at maximum, but depends on your budget, there is some projector that you can use at full day light but the cost to much, an exemle the Vidikron cost 40 000$, mine cost 2 000$.

Cnet did a test of an early model and it failed one of the test patterns indicating that the tv was not displaying every line of a 1080 signal. Sony released an upgrade that fixed the problem.

Just passing through. From Sony SXRD Forums.
I am afraid you are all have it wrong.
1. The sony SXRD sets including the a2000 do not scale 1080i to 540 1st then to 1080p. They do it right, and do not cut the V resolution in half. It is Mitsubishi rear projectors that do that. Facts - from tests published in Home Theater magazine.
2. Cnet did report as you say. The a2000 does or did have an incorrectly set filter that has been or can be corrected. But that filter did not cut the resolution or number of lines in half, it cut the display resolution just a little bit.--you are mixing the 2 issues up
3. I know no one really cares about all this, but I just have to jump in here with my 2 cents.

MisterNJ 09-29-06, 08:45 AM Looks like an Onkyo HT-S780 HTIB. Either that an Onkyo HT-S540 HTIB. How do you like it? I have heard very mixed opinions about it.
Yes, its the Onkyo S-780. I like the system but sometimes I have to choose between either the TV sound or the surround sound sound because of a slight echo which makes it a little hard to hear what people are saying. I think I need to tweak the settings or lower the bass a little as well. I'm not an audio nut so I really don't know much about what I need to do to change the system around so I get more sound from the back speakers but I don't get sound out of them very often from TV. It is what it is, a starter system---I may upgrade somewhere down the road but I live in an apartment building so I don't crank it up very often. Its 1000W and 7.1---I was never getting and sound out of the two extra speakers so I only put the two back speakers up for it. I got a sick deal on it refurbished in which they threw in a 6-DVD changer which I promptly sold on ebay for $100 making the cheap deal even cheaper.
The center channel speaker is on a shelf above the TV. I know its probably too high but I really didn't have any other option.
teckademic 09-29-06, 10:45 AM your first step would be to purchase a calibration dvd or use your receiver's internal test tones and then buy an spl meter so that you can balance your system out so that all speakers are at the same level. Pay a visit to the other threads under Audio setup for a tutorial and ask questions.

Most of the screenshots in this forum came from LCD and DLP televisions but not plasma. I know some say plasma is a risk for gaming because of burn-in but I hear it's not as big a risk as it used to be.
Anyone have any experiences with plasma gaming, particularly the Samsung? Anyone having lag issues as well? These are all things I have to consider. Also worried about motion blur (watch a lot of NFL) and I haven't seen a plasma that didn't have motion blur probs.

I am still considering the XBR2, but likely the 60-incher not the 70. IMO, the 70 just magnifies flaws way too much for its size and doesn't have that crispness you expect from HD. I love the way the 60XBR1 looks but everyone tells me it can't deal well with a 1080p input and to stay away from it for that reason. A shame because its HD picture is outstanding (I see you have one also). I will be gaming on my future set as well (XBOX 360 and eventually PS3). How does the XBR1 do with motion blur and lag on your 360??
Also considering a plasma in the 50-60 inch range. I am noticing that when you go from 50 to 60 in a plasma you seem to lose a lot of PQ and detail in the resolution, no matter what brand you are investigating. This will not be an easy decision! My living room is quite deep and could easily accomodate a set anywhere from 50-70 inches. The spoiled child in me says to get the 50-inch Samsung plasma and then move it to the bedroom if I love the 60XBR2 when I see it! :) We'll see!

this years mits dlp's do not cut the resolution in half. It actually deinterlaces correctly. the review from ultimate shows that. and when we put up 1080i test patterns from a sencore unit to the wd57831 and turned off sharpedge and noise reduction it showed smooth as silk every singe line.

I highly recommend it! The Toshiba HD-A1 can be found for under $400 and is a great value for what you get. HD-DVDs look phenomenal! I just picked up Batman Begins and it blows away the DVD version. The HD-A1 is an awesome upcoverter too so your regular DVDs will look great as well.
Of course, the 360 HD-DVD add-on is a good option too :)

I was just researching this after you suggested it. My current DVD player is just some cheap 480i unit my wife purchased at Wal-Mart before we were married.
Sony seems to make a well regarded upscaling DVD player, the Sony DVP-NS75H.
I would just wait and get the 360 HD-DVD add on, but I will probably move the 360 to my office where I have a Samsung 26"CRT HD set. It is just easier to game in there when the wife is watching some of her stuff.
The stand alone HD-DVD players still seem a little buggy. I may be wrong on that.

It sounds like you definitely need a better DVD player to take advantage of your HT setup. I would recommend at least a good progressive-scan DVD player. The Panasonic S77 and Oppo are popular choices.
The Toshiba HD-A1 does have a few quirks, namely slow boot times and minor skipping issues. With the latest firmware though (2.0), most of these problems are corrected. I've had my unit for a few weeks now and have only experienced skipping with one title. Usually this can be fixed by cleaning the HD-DVD disc as the HD-A1 is a bit sensitive. There are no problems with regular DVDs however.
I think the 360 add-on will be a great option, but we have to wait and see what the verdict is of PQ. You also sacrifice upconversion and access to the new HD audio formats, but it should be a decent entry-level player.
Jefftaz 10-05-06, 06:55 PM I think that the Toshiba HD-A1 is great. I had the Panasonic 97s before I bought the Toshiba HD-A1 and based on personal experience I can confirm that the Toshiba does a better job at up-converting regular DVDs. Add on to the up-converting abilities the fact that you can enjoy high definition movies and the Toshiba becomes a must buy. I just watched The Fast and the Furious Tokyo Drift and We Were Soldiers in high def and could not believe the picture quality !!! My wife and I were just sitting there in awe. It really made sense for me to pick one up, I have all this high definition equipment that I bought in hopes that one day I could watch high def material it - well I am now enjoying high def movies and cable. Also Netflix now has HD DVDs so I can get all the latest HD DVD releases delivered to my home for $17 a month. I currently have T3, The Lake House and End of Days in route and will watch them this weekend. I have had no issues what-so-ever with the Toshiba and bugs. I have upgraded to the 2.0 firmware and it has worked flawlessly, even the boot times are not as long. I have to say that the Toshiba HD-A1 was the BEST money I spent on my home theater this year, period.

In general...how do u like the set? Would love to know what settings u used to break the tv in as well...if u don't mind sharing.
Thanks!
I think it's one of the best TV's out there right now. Other than the Panny, but the Panny doesn't have a PC input, which I need and the all silver makes it look cheap.
The only complaint I have about the TV is that, at least on my set, I have ALOT of posterization on the HDMI inputs. Not sure why. Component connections somehow look better. It's not my cable boxes or the cables since I have a 42" HP and it looks far better on the HDMI when compared to the HDMI on the Samsung. I've had the TV since last week, so I need to call Samsung. I believe it's something with the inputs on the TV and only on mine as others in the Sammy forum have not complained and when I showed them pictures, they said theirs looked nothing like mine.
I had the settings on each category turend down to 45, on all the picture setting, but I avoided using dynamic for the past week while I broke it in.
And absolutely no lag whatsoever. I believe lag is only an issue to DLP sets, especially Samsungs, because of the upscaling process and slow scalers.
Other than the HDMI issue, the TV looks amazing. I've had friends and family come over and they can't believe the picture. I still need to get it calibrated, so I can't even imagine what it will look like after that. And the 360/XBOX/PS2/GameCube and even Dreamcast pictures is mindblowing.

The posterization concerns me, cause I will be hooking up Blu-Ray or HD DVD to the set. The review on CNET found a lot of video noise in black details when playing HD DVD. Also considering the Pioneer 5070...but it's 700 bucks more expensive...not sure if its worth it. I want a set for gaming/movies but I am also concerned the 5073 is too small? I have a fairly big living room.
Did u also look into the new Sony SXRD...the 60XBR2? I have heard that LCD has some issues with gaming so not sure if I want to deal with it..but may try!
akumaxv 10-10-06, 12:28 AM A sixty inch was too big for my space. Plus, I wanted something I could put on the wall.
As far as DVD's, using the 360 and an older Sony Dream System DVD player, the picture was amazing.
Again, they were connected via component. I think the HDMI issue is only onmy TV as others who have this set (and toh 5073, they are pretty much the same set) have not had any issues. I am having a Samsung tech come out to look at it.
Other than that, the picture is phenominal. When watching the playoffs, it was almost like you could reach through the TV and touch them. No other plasma gave me that experience, and I've looked at a lot. It's my second plasma in less than a year.
tattootearz 10-10-06, 12:34 AM hmmm.... well I'm going for more of a cinematic look... all equipment has been relocated to another room...

Very cool...thanks for the feedback. I also was considering the Hitachi 55 inch but the picture on the Sammy is just sharper...it truly is an excellent picture. Do u agree that by going any bigger than 50" on a plasma, u start losing some PQ and resolution? I just want to be OVERWHELMED in my home theater experience and 50 may be too small. But...the 5053 is not terribly expensive so perhaps I could afford a bigger one and put the Sammy in my bedroom.
Any more pix? Those are excellent screenshots.
Quikzilver 10-10-06, 01:16 AM I promise.....that is until I get this mounted on the wall and finish putting up the shelves.
I also have a 42 inch HP Plasma in the bedroom.
How did you get different background images for different blades of your 360 dashboard? All I could figure out was how to use a custom background that appears in all of the blades. Cool Transformer backgrounds by the way.
Kingcarcas 10-10-06, 01:58 AM Sweet setups guys, I'm saving for a 32'' Sharp Aquos :D Maybe if my dad is willing to "pitch in" we can get a 50'' Sammy DLP :p No worries though, i'm getting a Nintendo Wii first then an X360 after a price drop.

i don't think it's possible at this time. i know in one of the other setup pics earlier in the thread the same question came up and the person said he just took different pictures at different times...

Correct. There is no way to have different pictures for each blade. I just changed the background when I took a new picture.
I hope they implement that option in the next update due this fall.

I think that once you go above 42" you start to notice the imperfections in picture, ESPECIALLY SD. It's like taking a low res jpg and zooming in on it.
However, depending on the feed you're giving it and how close you are, it may not be that bad.
I wanted something larger than a 50", but for my space, it would have been too big, and price was also a consideration since I wanted something to hang on the wall. I could have gotten a 60" Sony or Sammy DLP/LCD for the same price as the 50, but I wanted something I could hang on the wall to get it out of the way. I think it looks niceer aesthetically anyway.
Those shots I took aren't a true representation of what the screen looks like. There'sa weird blue hue and there are some bright spots. It actually looks sharper and the colors look richer in person. I think I have the camera on the wrong settings.
I will take more pictures once I mount it on the wall and finish up the wiring.
Quikzilver 10-10-06, 10:29 AM Ok, that's what I thought, but I figured somebody found a way around that. Thanks guys.

I look forward to them! Also....is there a big difference or much of a difference at all between the 5053 and the 5073? I know the 73 has a swivel base and the bezel is all black and doesn't have that silver speaking lining but that's about it.

I've ordered alot of my stuff form them before, and it's quality stuff. Modern, but not overly expensive. The right side has 2 drawers with plenty of room, and that glass door slides over either side.
It's not in person than I thought it would be and a really nice color. Heavy as hell though.
akumaxv 10-10-06, 03:57 PM Quick question for some of you guys posting up the GRAW pics. I don't ge the whole outline of the HUD on my screen. What cables are you using to connect your 360. I'm using the component cables. Does the VGA cable allow for the whole picture to be displayed?
I'm using a Sammy hp-s5053 PDP. Thanks.

dragonyeuw 10-11-06, 02:49 AM Not sure if I should ask this in here, but it is gaming related(360).I'm about to purchase my first HDTV and I've narrowed my choices to two: the Samsung 42HPS4253 plasma and the Samsung LNS4051 LCD.Both,to my eyes, produce a great picture and good bang for the buck. Here's my question:
I'm moreso a gamer than a movie watcher. For this new TV,it's use will be approx. 60% games,25% dvd watching,15% cable.Taking that into account, those with experience in either of these TV's,which would you recommend? As I said, this TV will primarily be for games(360) with occassional movie watching.
I should also mention that I fall asleep often watching TV,so I'm wondering if Plasma is ideal for me with the burn-in potential.I know it's more or less a thing of the past, but still an issue.I saw a panny HDTV today with 'The Incredibles' dvd menu screen burned in.I look forward to making a choice soon so I can post my setup on here.....
Sorry if this is in the wrong forum......

Samsung LE 32R71W
Xbox 360, ofcourse
I will arrange the cables later on, same with the speakers on the side (not on this picture)
Great Movie and gaming TV for the 360, allthough i have problems with "jaggies" in Halo 2 and CoD2 strangly enough.
All other 360 games workes fine. (GRAW, FEAR, DoA ect)
And for the PS2 i can't play a single game without "jaggies" or really bad picture.
Got the Componet cables and everything. Really tobad since i'm a MGS and Halo fan to the bone.
Anything anyone could help me out on?
NoThru22 10-11-06, 09:38 AM Halo 2 is an Xbox 1 game that is natively rendered at 720x480 and then upscaled and anti-aliased. There will be less jaggies than playing it on the original Xbox, but 2x AA isn't going to eliminate them.

For any of you on the fence between Plasma/DLP/LCD, I finally threw down on DLP and am stunned by the pq. VGA port on this tv accepts 1080p via 60hz, so it should be a perfect match once the fall update is made.

DaGamePimp 10-12-06, 01:37 AM vancouver ,
I just noticed that there is no Video cable(s) connected to your HD DVD player , are you using it as a cd player only ?
Then again you are showing Training Day in that screen-shot so you must have unplugged the cable for the rear of the rack pic ;) .

Yeah i know that it's kinda a Xbox game. I once tried the Xbox with the TV and it looked horrible, couse i used the old scart cable though and i needed the Live update. through the 360 it looks better but still not that good.
But dosn't this with 2x AA ect have to do with the game itselfe? and that's why this new age games (GRAW, Quake 4 ect) need it to eliminate them (jaggies and sharpness) on HDTV's? That's what i though.
Btw, is there any other forum anyone could recomend for these kind of questions?
And, Nice setup [Vancouver]!

The cloth grills hide a set of NHT Superones, and the 360 is in the left-side rack at the bottom (due to the noise and it being white). No overheating problems, and it's been there since June with some 12+ hour marathon sessions.

Very perseptive. The reason my HDMi wasnt plugged in was because I had to turn the who rack away from the wall to install everything. The HDMI was against the brick behind the B&O coable cover.
