Here's some shots of NHL 07 on my Samsung HL-S5086W through Component:[[/img]

I plan on buying that tv, but want to know if you ever experienced any lag on it? Most samsungs I hear about all experience lag.

Samsung 46" DLP HLS4666W. I just got this TV yesterday. I've never had a TV bigger than 27" and this is my 1st HDTV. I absolutely love it! Now I just need to find the time to organize my wiring and get some speaker stands.

No lag whatsoever on any game I've played thus far. I've had the TV for a little over a week and love it.

Congrads on your HDTV purchase. Out of curiosity how good is that Pioneer surround system? Pioneer makes great stuff and I just wanted to know.

It's great for our living room. It's compact and very easy to set up. I didn't like it when I 1st saw it because the receiver is built into the subwoofer case. Once I heard one, I was pleasantly surprised. Amazon has/had it for $199 a week or so ago so I ordered on. I'd recommend it to anyone that doesn't have a lot of room for a big receiver and doesn't need to blow the windows out.

It's a sandbox style game, just like GTA. It's based somewhat in the future. You're a cop with amazing athletic abilities. You eventually level-up and can do more things.

It's a bit more innovative in that you're able to do things like jump onto ledges, hang from them, climb up buildings, etc. The graphics, draw distance, etc. are top notch. Truly beautiful to look at. The controls are damn good too. I can't wait for the retail version (which includes a Halo 3 beta invitation)

Do people generally prefer warm neutral or cool color temp settings on their TVs while xbox 360 gaming? I've always had mine set to neutral but Im giving warm a try. A bit too yellowish when I initially switched over but now it seems just natural. Going back to neutral seems a bit too white or blue, I dunno. Any thoughts?

Its a UK model and the model # is right, Sony changed the menu and are now calling it a Bravia in the uk, it has a Bravia logo on the top left of the set.
The Grand Wega is now D/C and the main problem I have is finding settings for it as the menus are different.

Yea but the HLS movie mode uses the HD color gamut according to some experience ISF calibrators. And still provides a very close to 6500K standard. Thats why I game and watch movies in movie mode. Along with some other calibration.

With all that money spent on that rack, I would have imagined an extremely huger tv with the size of that living room. But each to his own. Nice clean setup.

I did it all myself, plus I'm a dealer for everything you see including the Middle Atlantic rack system. Not as much as you think. To me, a 50" plasma is the perfect size family room display. I wouldn't put a larger one up there even if I could afford it.

I concur, sometimes people go overboard when it comes to screen size; but it all comes down to personal preference. No matter how nice things are, or how much work and effort you put into YOUR setup there will always be someone who will either make a smart comment, or express their negative opinion.

Besides I think the entire setup compliments your room well. The television is apart of the room, not the opposite... As nice as the cabin is I know there is much more to do than just sit in front of the tv.... :D

Keep up the good work and keep showing us how it's done.

Really nice setup Max, the rack looks very nice indeed. I do agree that 50" is definitely big enough for your room especially depending how close you sit to it. I think the only problem is that your set DOES look like a 30" set on that huge wall it is on. If it was on say a 9' ceiling height then it would look fine there. Perhaps some sort of wall treatments elsewhere would help, but hey it's your room. The only thing I would suggest is that I assume those are wall outlets of some sort that should be painted to blend in as they seem to just stick out like little sore thumbs. Hopefully someday soon I will finally get a digital camera so I can post pics here.

I was living in NYC when I turned 13 and started working summers in a NYC summer working program. Got my working papers and I was good to go. Been working summers since then. Then started working after school senior year and right into college. Now I'm in Grad School. I'm sure you can find a way to get some type of job. Work for a neighbor or something. If you really have the drive to get a HDTV then you will. You'll be surprised what you do for one. I worked my a$$ off :p .

It's true, I couldn't start working in Los Angeles until I was 14 years old; permit wise.... But I still did things around my neighbor. Being that there weren't many children where I grew up I helped out alot of the older people on my block; mowing lawns, walking dogs, taking out the garbage, things like that.

Maybe you can look into doing some odd jobs like those to get funding for your HDTV fund. (You can get a decent one for under a grand -Viewsonic)

Most states' child labor laws prevent it, but you can apply for a waiver. I did when I was a kid and they let me work.

when i lived in the 'burbs for a few years, my best bud and I had a flyer poster job for pizza place. The manager dropped us off in local communities with a bag of flyers and we ran door to door. Quick easy cash, no tax, and excerise if you like to run your arse off nonstop. we also got a free pizza!

At first, he'd drive us to each block and wait in the car, and kept refilling our stash.
But when we earned +3 trust... he gave us boxes of flyers to keep at our homes, and we could deliver (they called it "promote")...we got paid per box.

Didn't take too long before we began tossing the boxes in the nearby creek, and continued to earn pay (and more trust)!! :D
Bought so many nintendo cartriges those days!!

I'm sure I'll pay karma later in life.

PS: Please dont Rant like you did to that dude on the Pioneer thread. Thanks in advance.

Uptown, duuuuuude, you mean you aint got one yet ??? LOL!

PQ is about equal (HD DVD vs BR)
but BR audio is superior via HDMI 1.3 on the PS3 vs digi/opt on the 360

PS3 plays: DD 5.1, DD 5.1-EX, DTS 5.1,DTS-ES 6.1, DTS-HD,
DTS-HD Master Audio, and PCM lossless tracks.
Most BR's in my collection (23 so far) have DTS, DTS-HD or PCM 8 channel lossless

XBOX Add-on audio options:....DD5.1 that is all

the PS3 sends a test pulse out when you set it for "auto detect"
the problem is the max output is 1080p@60Hz ,and the 5070 only accepts 1080p @24Hz
So it then goes to the next step down to 1080i.

All Blu Ray movies play at 1080i, some games are 1080i some prefer 720p
like Resistance:FOM...which BTW utilizes the 7.1 audio capabilties (HDMI 1.3)
if you have an HDMI reciever.

I think I'll trade up when the XBOX releases an HDMI 360
<provided it will allow better HD DVD audio than DD 5.1>

Hey Longhorns, what TV did you end up getting?

Oddly enough, an RPTV, a Toshiba 50HM66, we saw the price at BB, and no int. till 2010, so i looked up the thread and heard some great reviews, but early on there were lots of problems, now they seem to be fixed. It's a great size for my living room, 11-12 feet viewing distance. And i'm really surprised how well it handles SD. I will be posting pics soon, as soon as i get my Canon Powershot S3 IS, which might be a while :p. And 360 wise, this thing is beautiful. I play the crackdown demo constantly, just amazed at how beautiful the explosions are. Lot's of GOW too. Anyone interested in an RPTV for their 360, i highly recommend it. Just a note tho there's no VGA input so no upscaling dvd's :/

Pionamaic:

No i could not get the PS3 yet due to my car getting towed for parking tickets (NYC parking sucks) and had to pay a grand to get it back and then new exhaust and brake booster on my 87 Vette.

But damn the PS3 sounds a lot better in the sound category only, to bad its not 1080p/24 thats sucks, so wat can I see thats in 1080p/24?

I downloaded NBA Live 06 from the XBL Marketplace and in there is a video test pattern which worked great for my DLP set. I have both Avia & DVE and while the DVD playback looked great, the games however were too dark. This post pretty much explains why that is...

Nice, But my advice is for you to remove your 360 from inside that entertainment center b/c your 360 can barely breath in there which will cause it to crash, like mine did today and mine was breathing correctly.

Thanks, don't worry, all of my components are getting proper ventilation. Luckily I picked up this rack at Ikea and the rear is made of some flimsy particle board which is very easy to slice through.....

It has a 'unplayable disc" error, making the 360 not play games, DVD's, or CD's.

I am not sending it in to MS unless I have to. I am going to Wal-Mart and get a brand new one since I bought a two years product service plan.

It was my fault anyways, I kinda droppped it on the ground about from about 8 inches in the air.

Thanks. Fantastic TV and it looks amazing, except, I'm not fond of the VGA connection. Looks too washed out. Other than that, great TV for everything else.

I got the stand from a place called Eurway. They have a website. A quick google will bring them up. Really nice, quality stuff. Not too expensive either.

It depends. Certain channels look fantastic. WB (or CW now) HBO, Cinemax, ESPN,and I think INHD! are great. Starz sucks, as does the PBS high Def. I noticed artifacting in fast moving scenes on those 2 especially.

I have also noticed some dithering, or banding on scenes with solid backgrounds like skies. I had posted that in the official HP5053 thread. Turns out my HP 42" plasma (the Panny glass one from last year) has it also, but it's not as noticable because the picture on the Samsung is 8 inches larger.

I don't have that issue when playing video games, as the gradients on the screen have a smooth transition, instead of those abrupt bands that show gradual darkening/lightening.

It seems the Scientific Atlanta High Def DVR that Cablevision uses and the garbage compression that Cablevision uses in NY are too blame. It's not the TV, it the provider and the POS box they use to receive their signal. It also depends on who the originator of the signal is. Like I said, HBO, Cinemax, CW, and ESPN seem to have less compression in their signal than some of the other channels.

No! What this shows is how much TNT sucks with regards to aspect ratios. It's a travesty what they are doing with movies and aside from NBA games, it makes one wonder how they get away with calling themselves an HD network.

I mean no disrespect to the original poster and appreciate his posting of the pic as it allows others to see what happens when a network shows absolute disregard for correct aspect ratios. The distortion that happens when you take a 4:3 AR image and stretch it out to a 16:9 AR is readily apparent. What TNT is doing is detrimental to furthering the goal of a quality HD picture for the end user and we can only hope other networks don't follow that same path.

hmmm, actually the AR looked fine in that movie.

that girl looked pretty fat when she was on "The OC", and she looked pretty good in that movie there, and if she was stretched horizontally then she must be REALLY skinny now, skinnier than how she is on "NUMB3RS"

i know this is as far from scientific as it gets, LOL, but seriously, the AR didnt seem too off to me.

Upon closer examination of that screen shot it looks like your camera didn't capture the whole frame so you're likely correct. Comcast took over Adelphia in my area a couple of weeks ago and TNT was one of the added HD channels. The first movie I saw on it was Deep Impact and they were doing the stretch. They were strecthing the movie horizontally and the center of the image was being streched vertically. People on the furthest sides of the frame were shorter and fatter and the people in the center were taller and skinnier.

Over the next couple of days, every movie they broadcast was the same way and I haven't watched another movie on TNT since then. If they finally started showing movies in the correct aspect ratio that is good news. I'll take a look tonight and report back tommorow.

It's a case-by-case thing for TNT. Many times they mess with the aspect ratio, mostly older or less popular movies and shows. But a couple months ago they showed the Lord of the Rings trilogy in HD and it looked pretty good.

yea, the LOTR broadcast was pretty damn good. but they had to jump through hoops just to be able to get it on the air in HD, so i'm sure they made sure everything was done right. they weren't in OAR, but they were cropped so there was no sqeezing or stretching.

It's a case-by-case thing for TNT. Many times they mess with the aspect ratio, mostly older or less popular movies and shows. But a couple months ago they showed the Lord of the Rings trilogy in HD and it looked pretty good.
I took a look a Sleepy Hollow last night. Went back and forth between TNT and TNT HD and everything looked fine. Now if they would only do something about those obnoxious pop-ups for upcoming tv shows. I don't mind commercials so much, but those pop-ups totally suck.

Agreed. I have the top tier of programming the cable company sells. You can see in my sig what I lost from the Comcast takeover. These were replaced by TNT HD, ESPN 2, MTV HD and Versus/Golf HD and none are commercial free. :(

Anyway, sorry to derail the thread.

you're not missing out, mtvhd pretty much sucks.

it's not really like mtv, it's a mix of a few mtv owned networks, and mostly concerts of lame artists.

It's MHD (Music: Hi Def). They combine programming from MTV, VH1 and CMT. I think they have some pretty good stuff on there sometimes. Foo Fighters concert, MTV VMA repeats, late at night they have music video blocks all in HD.

Here's one of my best friend's new setup. He's picking up a 360 this weekend. I'll make sure to post a few 360 screenshots at that time. But for now -

113" screen, Mitsu projector (no idea what model), Denon 7.1 receiver, Klipsch speakers (2 subs), "floating" walls and floor and all sorts of other goodies I probably don't even know about yet. The Super Bowl looked and sounded amazing here.

SVS PB10-NSD sub
Onkyo SR804 Receiver
Oppo971 DVD
Xbox360 + add on HD-DVD drive

Screen is 102" (16x9) also DIY with Silverfire super lite screen paint from the screen DIY forum.

I only have seating for 6 (my family).

Some of you guys really have killer setups!
I am piecing together a gaming setup right now. *I didn't want to use my theater for gaming anymore.*

The gaming press bashed Kameo but i thought the game was absolutly great and better then half the games out for the system. It was a much better game than perfect dark and other game that came out when it did.
