Yes, it is very cool. However they only support about 30 channels on it here so far (Phoenix area) and several are redundant (non-HD and HD versions of History for example). Hope they add more soon.
I agree that Cox's limited channel selection is a disappointment. Here in OKC Cox has not included any of the ESPN, Fox Sports, or local channels so no sports are available. The stuff that is available is mostly movies and public affairs related. Despite its limitations, I also agree that the Cox iPad app is, indeed, "pretty cool."

I wonder if it has to do with channel contracts? Maybe when the 30 came up this was added to the contract.

So here's the deal on the lineup. Depending on when the contracts were negotiated nonlinear viewing did not include streaming. We can only add those as contracts are renegotiated. I doubt ESPN will be included in this app due to the investment they have made in their own app. I hope you guys notice we are taking new approaches and launching things & then iterating on them once they are out. We plan on being much more aggressive.

Wonder if it will or can include the big networks abc,NBC,CBS,fox? But the ability to watch the local station out of market.

We are working on local affiliates but not out of market.

Basically the same 30 or so IPad channels as every other cable provider, due to streaming rights not allowed by the originating producers of the content.

I meant say I'm from Omaha, but go to on vacation to another cox location and login would we get Omaha's local channels? I just re read it and this is only to work in the home, but why can't it work via the cox.net accounts. ?

It's kind of interesting. You have to use the login of the house you are at. If I go to my parent's house 15 miles away I can't log in with my account. Though it can be annoying it is impressive security.

It would be locked down via IP then?

Cox says they are working on an Android app, but really it would be up to Amazon if they want one.

Anyone know if Cox sends out Dolby Digital Plus audio or is it just DD?

After 11 years of being a Directv customer, I'm thinking of switching to Cox as D still isn't delivering my local channels in HD and apparently have no plans to do so. Hence my questions for Cox customers, especially those of you in Kansas:

Are you happy with the HD choices available and the costs;

How is the resolution delivered? Is it native; 720p, 1080i, 1080p or is the HD signal 'down-res'd' for bandwidth issues?

How is the HD DVR?

Anyone using a Tivo HD box with cable card? Does Cox give you a hard time using the Tivo and does it always work well? Cost to rent the cable card monthly?

Any other thoughts/comments appreciated.

Not sure if you've got your answer yet but I have Cox in Phoenix with a TiVo Premiere & CableCARD and am ready to switch to Directv...

Cox charges $2/mo for the CableCARD and $5/mo for "advanced TV" (basically each TV you have a "device" on) even though you can't actually enjoy any "advanced" features on the TiVo because you have no access to the ondemand. Then you have to stack the TiVo monthly cost on top of all that. The whole house DVR of Dtv seems far more appealing.

Oh and I looked at the Cox HD-DVR and man is it outrageously expensive and the guide is horrendous.

I'll probably stay with Cox for the internet and phone and switch TV to Dtv. Will probably end up costing more in a few years but until then I'll be saving.

Oh -- and TiVo hasn't updated the rest of the Premiere's screens to HD yet, so even though you get a painfully slow but nice looking menu, as soon as you go one level deeper you're tossed back into the SD full screen menu. It's been years. How long does it take??

No or few programs are encoded in DD+. It is more prevalent in Blu-ray discs, and some of the streaming media. The audio is embedded into the ATSC package. Cox passes on whatever is in the ATSC package.

Don't know if someone said it or not.

Baton rouge now has the need multi room. At least she said it was added last week.. So they are coming Monday..

$79 install fee. All in all between having 2 Dvr it changed my bill like
-$5.. lets see if it is any better..

Reason i called was to complain cause for the last 2months non of my shows would record. Well play after recorded. Got mixed answer from store and phone rep. Got a credit from phone rep and new service added. Store rep said u have to have the Newer box(never said anything bout multi Dvr.) cause older box won't take the update from 2mths ago..

What kills me ia i been calling from time it started till now and just found out some boxes didn't like update. (phone rep)So the credit was two moths digital service knocked off.

Just recently added TV service, since they offer a package w/ free DVR.
