That song hits close to home. I believe it can for anyone. Very good song. I don't see how anyone couldn't like it. Speaking of country. Also, this thread is a trap! Scott1094 10-10-11, 01:42 PM Sorry I don't know the title but, the theme from the movie Somewhere in Time has always seemed just beautiful to me. chelsea_t 10-27-11, 12:25 AM I have lots of all time favorite songs. Mr.G 11-04-11, 12:53 PM Watched Highlander for the umpteenth time last night and within the context of the movie is a very moving piece. FendersRule 11-12-11, 09:17 PM It's impossible to hold your most "beautiful" song throughout time. It will change, even if it takes months, seems like. I could probably list off several Floyd songs. But these are pretty ethereal and it would be hard to find anything more beautiful at the moment: 2s0-wbXC3pQ F0XEuMr89Jk oink 11-13-11, 01:46 AM It's impossible to hold your most "beautiful" song throughout time. That's a fine choice. ********************************** A quick search of this thread yields that the song below has been mentioned three times already, but it's been about four years, so I'll mention it again (and it's worthy of mentioning again, too). "God Only Knows" by The Beach Boys (written by Brian Wilson, of course, who is/was one of the finest pop song writers ever. It is said that in the mid-late 60s, even the highly esteemed and genius songwriters John Lennon and Paul McCartney were envious of Wilson's abilities to craft a beautiful and catchy tune. This one is his best, in my opinion). Fasijaveed 12-21-11, 06:55 AM Yeah Song is really beautiful.... BTW, if you haven't seen this stunning timelapse video set to "Learning To Fly", it's quite a treat. Unfortunately, due to the popularity of the video, Tom Lowe (who made the video using a Canon 5D Mark II) has since taken down the free full 1080p download and it is now available for sale. Here is a not quite HD sample of the video. http://vimeo.com/groups/eos5dmkii/videos/4038064 Alison Krauss "When You Say Nothing At All" Johann Pachelbel "Canon in D Major" Luciano Pavarotti "Nessun Dorma" by Puccini Etta James "At Last" Andy McKee "Rylynn" Andy McKee "For My Father" Art Lande "Tenderly" Joe Satriani "Always With Me, Always With You" Nat King Cole "When I Fall In Love" Sergei Rachmaninoff "Rhapsody On A Theme Of Paganini" Jonatha Brooke "West Point" Annie Lennox "Waiting In Vain" (Bob Marley cover) 10cc & Godley Creme "I'm Not In Love" From Les Miserables "Bring Him Home" Max Rammitinski 12-29-11, 05:42 AM Alex DeGrassi "Turning:Turning Back" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqqmisiod-c&feature=related That album and Slow Circle are outstanding. dragonbud0 01-01-12, 06:57 PM Not sure if anyone had mentioned these while I'm building my Spotify: - Countess from HK by C. First one I had ever heard was a version by one of the many rotating vocalists in the Golden Palominos. I forget her name, but it may have been the only song she sung for them. And I was vaguely aware of Nico's version. The only other thing I knew was that Jackson Browne had written the song. In any event, the AMG guy sure likes Allman's version, so you're not alone there. Incidentally, it turns out Browne & Nico once had a "thing". Weird. Not a pairing I would have ever imagined anyway. The artsy broodingly teutonic chick and the laid back California dude. An unusual and quite wonderful rarity on 2002's I'm No Angel, Jackson Browne's "These Days" highlights Gregg Allman's tie to folk music forms. Cast in his usual blues-based forms, Allman takes the sincerity and poetry of the youthful, coming-of-age message to heart, and it works wonders. Previously recorded by Nico, of all people, the song has an ageless quality to it, and when Allman adds his jazz-based organ solo to the arrangement, the final effect is pure magic. Perhaps not the definitive version of the song, it nevertheless remains a unique and emotional reading. http://allmusic.com/song/these-days-t862708 rich3fan 03-28-12, 10:51 AM Yeah I knew Gregg wasn't the writter, but I didn't know it was Jackson Brown. Huh. Gregg Allman's version is on his first solo album: "Laid Back". Another favorite of mine from that album is "All My Friends", which I also consider a very beautiful song.
