View Full Version : My rear projection home theatre akto 12-15-05, 08:45 AM Please jump to post # 6 I need... akto 12-15-05, 08:46 AM ... five posts... akto 12-15-05, 08:46 AM ...to be... akto 12-15-05, 08:47 AM ...allowed to... akto 12-15-05, 08:47 AM ...post URL's... akto 12-15-05, 08:47 AM First of all; excuse my English ;) I’m not new in here, but I haven’t got many posts, due to the fact that we have some great Avforums in Norway, where I live. But it’s always fun to look at other people’s home theatres. In that matter, we are all made of the same stuff :-D My HT is build from a concrete basement; in fact it was a hell of a job to just make a normal room out of it. Now, 350 hours later, I’m finished! Enjoy the pictures, hope you like it! Front wall, where you can see the speakers, Focal Jmlab Electra 936 and CC901. Home made rack for C speaker. The screen is a Stewart AeroPlex 90”. The front wall is made of textile panels, which can be removed. http://gallery.avsforum.com/data/503/IMG_4168_Custom_.jpg View to sweet spot. All seats are individually adjustable, and there is 5 seats total. Rear speakers is Focal Jmlab Cobalt SR800s. Upper wall and roof is made of carpet, to avoid first reflection http://gallery.avsforum.com/data/503/IMG_4157_Custom_.jpg Rear seats. The reason for using the chairs behind the sofa, is because I must sit in the center of the front speakers when I listen to music. http://gallery.avsforum.com/data/503/bakre_plasser.jpg Screenshot. Right now I use a Optoma H56 projector, until I get finished with the room in front, where a Barco BD801s will be primary display device. http://gallery.avsforum.com/data/503/IMG_4149_Custom_.jpg WTB terminals on front speaker and center. http://gallery.avsforum.com/data/503/IMG_4139_Custom_.jpg Electronics are Denon, Yamaha and Vincent. Using a HTPC for DVD player. I use two subwoofer system, one SVS PB12/Ultra-2 and a pair of bass towers with 2 RCF 15” in each tower. The system plays with a tremendous pressure down to 16 Hz ;) http://gallery.avsforum.com/data/503/IMG_4153_Custom_.jpg Hope you will enjoy the pictures. point_and_shoot 12-15-05, 10:31 AM Wonderful looking HT! Has to be one of my favorites to date. Great job! Are those JM Lab Electras? SightSeeker1 12-15-05, 10:37 AM Holy crap that's nice! That couch rocks. akto 12-15-05, 12:14 PM Thanks guys! :-D Front and centre is Jmlab Electras, the four rear spekers are Jmlab Cobalts. Jmlab Electra 936 Jmlab Electra CC901 Jmlab Cobalt SR 800s akto 12-15-05, 12:17 PM The couch is made by a Norwegian company called Ekornes. This type is called "Pegesus" Each seat is 75 cm wide, more than enough to be comfortable mercmaster 12-27-05, 10:55 PM Holy Moly!! mercmaster 12-27-05, 10:56 PM That's one awesome setup you got going there akto!! mercmaster 12-27-05, 10:57 PM Now I now what you mean by the 5 post rule. :) mercmaster 12-27-05, 11:00 PM I bet that Imax "Magic of Flight" looks awesome on your setup. It looked great on my H31 until last night that is (took a dump on me after a month and a half of use). :( pg6922 01-01-06, 08:41 AM OMG that is amazing. Kudos to a very clean install and amazing HT pg6922 01-01-06, 08:41 AM Ahhh number 5 reverse 01-01-06, 01:00 PM Looks great! Love the seating also. weatherfan 01-02-06, 01:21 PM Wow, what a nice setup. I'm drooling. Synder 01-08-06, 02:27 PM Very impressive! drhack 01-10-06, 12:38 PM Fantastic setup - very "European" look :) What are the room dimensions? Apart from the front wall do you have room treatments? adpayne 01-10-06, 06:31 PM Very, very, nice set up! When I saw "rear projection" in the title, I didn't expect much. Boy, was I surprised! :) Art akto 01-27-06, 03:43 AM Thanks guys! Europeean look :D Nice! We love wood you know :) This is the original drawings for the room http://home.online.no/~monicoe/artimages/hjemmekinorom_med_barco_i_taket_bakprojeksjon.jpg This is the dimension http://home.online.no/~monicoe/artimages/dimentional_drw.JPG This is my latest investment :D Focal Jmlab Electra 946. I am 6'2 high http://avforum.no/gallery/files/1/8/1/5/akto_jmlab946_1.jpg akto 01-27-06, 03:48 AM Almost forgot... The SUB-Bass is taken good care of by a SVS PB12 Ultra/2. This one is placed behind the chairs, and the whole system plays with a linear frequence respons from 16 Hz. akto 01-27-06, 03:57 AM A picture of the center, the couch and my dog. Just before I was finished with the HT in tha basement http://home.online.no/~monicoe/artimages/IMG_3383_(Large).JPG akto 01-27-06, 03:59 AM This is how it looked like when we bought the house http://home.online.no/~monicoe/artimages/cnv0002.jpg akto 01-27-06, 04:04 AM The front wall is taking shape. First I built it like an ordinary front projection theater, but after reconcidering the benefits of rear projection, I had to rebuild the front wall. The problem with rear projection is the price you have to pay for a good screen. My Stewart AeroPlex 90" screen costs 7800$... Almost as much as the Electra 946... http://home.online.no/~monicoe/artimages/ACFASARJaOJc.JPG http://home.online.no/~monicoe/artimages/IMG_4011_(Large).JPG akto 01-27-06, 04:22 AM Another thing.... The front wall is mainly made of a material similar to velvet, so it's completely transparent for sound waves. That means I can work with the acoustics inside the wall that separates the two rooms without having all those sound traps visible. akto 01-27-06, 05:10 AM Here is the equipment list: Subwoofer: 1 x SVS PB12-Ultra/2 :-) 2 x Bass towers m/ 2 pcs 15" RCF in each (DIY) Speakers (7.1) 2 x JmLab Electra 946 (front) 1 x JmLab Cobalt CC901 (center) 4 x JmLab Cobalt SR800s (surround) Denon 2106 2 x Vincent SP 331 Supra + + + Picture Epson TW-600 (projector) Barco BD801s Lerett : Stewart AeroPlex BenQ T701 17" LCD for adjustment of HT Sorces DVD Yamaha S-2300 DVD-Audio/SACD X-Box mod with 50 games on HD HTPC: ASUS P4P800-E Deluxe ASUS 6600GT Accent 400 P4 3.0 GHz Zalman, silentX M-Audio Rev 7.1 win xp pro Theatertec 2.2 Rahl 01-27-06, 06:43 PM Love your theater! Nice photos!! akto 10-19-06, 03:56 AM Thanks guys, I really appreciate your comments! Yesterday I sold my two beloved Nakamichies and went for a second hand Conrad Johnson MF 2500A. Very nice indeed. ImDiesel 01-19-07, 10:27 PM gotta agree with the masses, that is simply beautiful... congrats on a job well done... i liked seeing the before pictures, and what you tunred it into... akto 01-20-07, 03:13 AM Thanks guys. Thought given to sound treatments is great, although I must ask: Is that carpet thick enough to work well below 1 kHz? (I bet you get good diffusion from that ridged bottom paneling, too!) i70x7 01-29-07, 04:04 PM Thanks guys. There has been a lot of changes in my HT. I think the speakers would completely distract me from actually watching the movie. ssabripo 02-02-07, 03:37 PM Good lord!! very nicely done my friend. :) I have enjoyed your work in progress, and it has been going in the right direction!!! Now, all you need is to get rid of those tiny little Plus/2's and get some real subwoofers like mine and you will be in very good shape :p http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=756408 all and all, very well done! ;) like.no.other. 02-03-07, 12:23 AM The first part was the most cleanest, elegant looking home theater I have ever seen. Nice job. But I didn't like that horn speakers because it made it look off. Genius74 02-05-07, 04:27 PM No way is this better than amdfanboy's setup!!!!! Enough jokes.. Just curious, why did you choose rear projection instead of front? Do you use that room for something else (where the projector is)? If you mentioned that already, my apologies, as I haven't read every post. Nice. I do like the original setup better, very clean. Those speakers are god-awful BIG!!! wagsgt 02-07-07, 01:03 PM First pictures are very clean Kai Winters 02-10-07, 08:31 AM Wow what a beautiful room. That sofa is really nice. As others have said it is very European...clean lines...not overstated...just right. Enjoy and thanks for the photos. Doctafun 02-24-07, 04:21 AM holy cow, thats sweet dude elec999 03-09-07, 02:00 AM WoW this looks like an amazing setup. Just I am just instrested how do the JmLab Electra 946 sound just for music listening and how much are they. Thanks ekalvi 03-09-07, 02:57 PM Freakin' ridiculous setup! I appreciate seeing the evolution of this system. Perhaps you could charge admission? I do have to agree with i70x7, though, that the horns would be distracting. qwig 03-09-07, 08:02 PM Wow that looks awesome man! LuckyTage 03-22-07, 11:14 PM Is your setup in any magazines? If not it should. Amazing.. akto 03-23-07, 02:50 AM Hi, thanks! I've actually been in a couple of magazines, but they are all in Norwegian language, which probably just a few of avsforums readers can understand. Tomorrow I will get the new Avantgarde DUO with the right color - Porshe Atlas Grey Metallic. I will also get my new center speaker, which is a Avantgarde Solo. I'll post some picktures soon. EnzoPolotso 04-07-07, 11:45 PM Wow, that's the first time I've ever seen Avantgardes used for home theater. What are you going to use as surrounds? eightninesuited 10-13-07, 01:48 PM Visually, the Martin Logan setup looked much neater and cleaner. Now it just looks ridiculous (in a good way). akto 10-14-07, 05:35 AM Hello. There has been some changes lately, but here goes: http://www.aktomedia.no/hjemmekino/1_web.jpg http://www.aktomedia.no/hjemmekino/5_web.jpg http://www.aktomedia.no/hjemmekino/8_web.jpg http://www.aktomedia.no/hjemmekino/4_web.jpg http://www.aktomedia.no/hjemmekino/2_web.jpg http://www.aktomedia.no/hjemmekino/6_web.jpg http://www.aktomedia.no/hjemmekino/7_web.jpg http://www.aktomedia.no/hjemmekino/9_web.jpg eightninesuited 10-14-07, 12:15 PM You really are crazy. I can't imagine the SPL in that area from the subs. akto 10-14-07, 01:34 PM The SPL is quite high, but I really haven't measured it after I got 3 of that Plus/2. I have placed an order for 2 x PB13/Ultra and 2 x PC13/Ultra, so I will probably measure the SPL when I get those. It isn't very important, as long as it sounds clean and tight (which is the goal, more subwoofers = more headroom and more accuracy) By the way; I have got myself a decent rack for the components, so it actually looks’s a little bit cleaner in front. The most impressing for me isn’t the SPL from the subwoofer's, but from the center speaker. 100 dB/watt sensitivity, and a internal amplifier on 250 watt makes the shooting in Open Range a physical experience I've never heard anywhere else (you can include the top models from Revel, JBL, Focal, etc.) The driver is a 12" :D Triaxtremec 10-22-07, 02:11 PM I have to say your system is damn amazing. I wish I could visit your theater. akto 02-21-08, 07:03 PM Some new pictures here: http://avforum.no/minhjemmekino/show.php/akto http://avforum.no/minhjemmekino/users/wmorig/b5cc1d818593d16865948b93ede4e86f.JPG croseiv 02-21-08, 08:35 PM That has to be one of the best theaters in the world man! That's quite a statement :) ldgibson76 03-05-08, 11:17 PM Just simply OUTSTANDING! The attention to detail is mindboggling. Bravo! The pics of the theater are stunning. (The theater itself ain't so bad either. ;) ) Fit2Run 05-06-08, 02:16 PM The speakers with HORNS ON THEM like the devil coming out. It looks amazing but almost scary. I would be afraid to be down there alone. Stunning absolutely stunning. Not sure if you should be in AV mags or Horror Mags. IM talking about those front speakers. They look like their ready to attack. akto 05-06-08, 04:34 PM Thanks guys. I work as a reviewer and photographer for a Norwegian magazine called Hjemmekino, which means Home Theater in English. I also work as a wedding photographer. The horns looks mean, but really, they are not. Quite dynamic doe, but with the right kind of amp and preamp it’s a perfect speaker for both music and movies. Maybe he will update you guys himself? Fun to see your setup in here :) ddgtr 01-20-09, 10:25 AM sannathx, thanks for bumping this! Very impressive!!!! Aaron Gilbert 01-20-09, 01:40 PM akto, That is a highly impressive room and system! What an amazing change from the raw state of the room. :) That 'couch' and the matching chairs are absolutely beautiful. Those are my favorite home theater seats ever. The speakers are, of course, incredible, but seem to be in a constant state of flux. ;) Daman S 01-20-09, 02:13 PM What a fantastic room! Wish i could have a room like this :D I love everything about it from how clean the whole install is to your seating and all the equipment. Thanks for sharing! akto 01-21-09, 06:59 PM Sorry for not updating this tread for a long time. I use a Canon EOS 5D, with various lenses. The picture of the screen is taken with the EF 17-40mm f/4.0. (and keep quiet you Norwegian ignorants :D) It's actually a big step up from the Avantgarde Duo ... http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=130651&stc=1&d=1232582191 http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=130652&stc=1&d=1232582191 http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=130653&stc=1&d=1232582191 sannathx 01-22-09, 05:30 AM Very very nice :) I will keep my mouth zipped :D eightninesuited 01-22-09, 01:38 PM http://www.aqsu08.dsl.pipex.com/DIBB/homer-drool.gif Daman S 01-22-09, 02:19 PM Sorry for not updating this tread for a long time. I use a 5D myself and must compliment you on some very well taken shots :) Though i cannot guess the speakers.. but is that screen material dark grey? Almost blends in with the walls and looks fantastic. sannathx 01-23-09, 08:04 AM I know the frontspeakers are full active. A little unsure about the center, but think it's the same. Have not heard them myself, but the guys who have are stunned :) akto 01-23-09, 08:46 AM The speakers are from a German company called ADAM Audio. The front and center speakers are from the Tensor series, and is called Tensor Beta and Tensor Center. The Beta's are fully active 5-way speakers with 5 in-build amps (5x350W). The Center is a 4-way fully active with the same amplification (4x350W). The front speakers have another sub driver (11") on the back side. The dynamic drivers on the Center is 2 x 9". The tweater and midrange are Heil modified A.R.T drivers. http://www.adam-audio.com/hifi/english/tensor/beta_data.htm http://www.adam-audio.com/hifi/english/tensor/center_data.htm Retail price (in Norway) is 32.000 USD for Beta and 8.400 USD for the Center. ldgibson76 01-23-09, 09:03 AM Hello Atko.:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::D The title of the post....., Your system is exactly that! Oh my God, Man! When I first saw your state of the art theater room, with the huge horn-type speakers, I was amazed with the attention to detail and attributed the mind-boggling images to having an excellent camera! But, I was missing the target with that observation. You could have taken the photos with a 1.3 megapixel camera, and your system would still look outrageous! With all of the speaker change outs, and you've had some awesome speakers in that lovely room, are Adam Audio's satisfactory? Do they at least meet your expectations or do you think you will become bored within 3 months and find another obscure obscenely expensive speaker system to evaluate?!:D Atko, you are the man! Excellent system! Regards. Aaron Gilbert 01-23-09, 01:54 PM ... The Beta's are fully active 5-way speakers with 5 in-build amps (5x350W). Since mine will get at least 6dB beyond reference level above 80Hz, I can barely imagine the potential in your system! 350w each for a midrange and tweeter, that is just crazy! :) sound dropouts 02-19-09, 02:27 PM holy crap I want those speakers :D mrdems83 02-19-09, 06:30 PM Holy crap!! I just took a crap!!! Dbuudo07 05-08-09, 01:49 PM Beautiful setup. I like that you kept the room design simple. Did you sound proof it? What is some of your favourite demo material? Is your projector mounted as high as in the 3D drawing? Have you ever heard of Meyer Sound? If you upgrade again, check them out. Also look at some of Mark Seaton's designs for bass. They may stop your upgraditis;) mikieson 05-10-09, 11:32 PM Can someone please tell me the bennifits of rear projection? Amarvir 05-12-09, 11:01 PM wow your setup looks really nice i wish i can do something like that... very nicely done. Jedirun 05-12-09, 11:09 PM Can someone please tell me the bennifits of rear projection? The main benefit is that you do not have to control the light in your viewing room as much as you do with front projection to get a good picture. BllDo 04-12-11, 12:08 PM Gotta bump this, cause it's just nuts. BrolicBeast 04-12-11, 01:17 PM Yeah I concur with Billdo--that theater and the equipment that power it is spectacular. It's also unique in its rear-projection setup. Very interesting. akto 04-13-11, 03:02 AM Hi guys. Thanks for bumping the thread. Right now my theater is being rebuild. In a couple of months there will be updates :) |
