Hey does anybody know anything about the Hitachi PJTX100 projector. I saw it at Rosas today and I really wasn't all that impressed with it. It is a WXGA LCD projector and it says it was originally $4000 and now it's about half price. I was just wondering how this stacked up to other WXGA projectors, but I must say I really wasn't all that impressed with it and it was hooked up with component. Could anyone tell me how this might compare to something the the Panny AE900U? They both to be about the same lumens but the panasonic blows the Hitachi away in contrast ration it's only like 1200:1 while the panny is 5000:1. Thanks for any input

nevermind...found the other thread
The TX100 is a pretty good projector. Kin of like a tx200 but with no Dynamic Iris, so the contrast is not as good.
The price would have to be right for me to buy this. By right, I mean like at a big discount to new projectors like the Optoma HD70.

I've had mine for 2 years now. It's a great projector for the price I paid back then, I ordered mine from Japan for a fraction of the US list price ( paid less than a third of what you mention the list as being now). Nice picture, SDE not a problem from 1.2x screen width, pretty bright, great for HTPC monitor. The zoom and lens shift are great, make setup a breeze. Scales s-video from SD Tivo pretty well. BUT I've been to see the newer DarkChip 2 DLP's, and there is no contest, the newest DLP is far better (and can be cheaper).
For the downsides... In my experience, with my projector in my home:
My first bulb lasted <1700 hours, my second is still going strong at 1700, but my blue LCD panel is failing. It isn't dust or the blue polarizer, the blue LCD is failing to block blue light now. You can actually see the individual pixels showing blue when the screen is displaying black. This isn't to knock the Hitachi in particular, the D4/D5 panels just don't seem last all that long before failing.
For me, it was my first projector and provided many hours of HD, PC gaming, along with lots of DVDs. But I won't be buying an LCD projector to replace it. Looks like I'll be buying a HD70 to replace it. Just gonna be hard to beat the price to reward ratio for that projector. It will certainly tide me over until 1080P is down to a price I can't resist.

Hi Cobraphx,
the same thing is happening to my PJTX100, after a year an a half. What can I do to fix it? Do I need to replace something in it?
I appreciate any advice,
Thanks,

I'm sorry but where on earth is that other thread? The used to be an insanely long thread on this PJ, and I can't find it.
