To all:

With the exception of 5 custom orders, all Tiko custom orders and standard orders have gone out. The 5 custom orders include volley (being done this week) and a few others we received very recently.

Chris Dotur, your CeRT disc was resent and came back to me even addressed to the new address. Will resend again.

Many of the discs went out in two batches last week, the last group on Friday and they should all be delivered today, tomorrow at the latest.

Aside from the 5 orders being worked on this week, all orders are out and current.

Miek Wiley, will get you your CeRT sticker.

Chris, will resend CeRT

Larry Washam yours is in NH most likely to be delivered today.

PCDoctor, yours is in Georgia today for delivery along with refund. Your dad's disc also went out to him as well and should be delivered today. I didn't get a reply when I emailed you regarding this.

Received mine today. It's pretty good, but to be honest the wife and I were a bit underwhelmed. It's cool enough, but 2 minutes sure seemed like it would be longer when I bought it. Don't think the quick flash of customization was worth the extra $60. Would have been a decent purchase at $15, but at $75 it seems to be a bit of a waste.

The bassimator sounds good, but not as good as the Elephant scene in ROTK (which I have on another disc of clips to show off bass). Not to mention the warning screen that shows up before the bassimator and stays on screen with this annoying loud beeping sound for several seconds. As far as I can tell, there's no way to bypass it.

Also, is there not supposed to be background music during the trivia/facts slides? The dead silence is a bit annoying after a couple of minutes and I had to stop watching. Would have been much nicer with a bit of sound.

I already have the Dolby and DTS trailers, so those weren't really of any use either.

I didn't even see the Classic Animation listed in the menu and haven't tried to find the Shark Tank yet.

All in all, the only really useful part is the actual TiKo section and at less than 2 minutes, I don't think it's worth anywhere close to the nearly $80 I paid.

I'm hoping Richard's promise of a free Blu Ray version actually comes to fruition because that will help take some of the sting out of this purchase.

PS. Has anyone received his wife's surprise item that we were told would ship with every pre-order?

Well folks I finally received my custom order #1136 of Tiko. I liked it but felt that the Trivia would have been better if there was music to it and also if it was like the movie theater were they give you an question and you get the answer after you tried to answer the question I feel that would have been much better. I did like the shark and the Tiko trash bit overall the disc was pretty good, just a shame it took so long to get.

I hate to tell you, but I just got done spending $150 elsewhere for a theater intro that lasted a total of 64 seconds. That was the only useful part to me, but was it worth it. Probably, as I got to see my theaters name on the "big" screen. In actuality the value goes to the person buying the product. For myself I think that both sales were worth it.

Well thanks to Richard for letting me know my disc will be a bit later. Next week. :) No big deal to me. I do have an event planned for a week from this Saturday, so hopefully it will have arrived by then. :)
I think it is a bummer that there is no music to accompany the trivia. I would have thought some sort of low volume music would have been a no-brainer.
To be honest, I bought the disc to have my theater name up on the big screen and to get the lets all go to the lobby jingle. I doubt I will be using the trivia very much.

You can always rip and re-burn the DVD and put music to the trivia.

My $0.02 <--That's in Canadian $$ so not worth much. lol

I guess I got spoiled because I already have several discs of movie clips and each one has my theater name prominently displayed as the 20th Century Fox logo (with appropriate intro music) thanks to reapers now famous thread. It's my own fault, I was just expecting too much. Would have been cool if the custom name was also on the screen in the tiko promo though. I was mostly bummed that the trivia had no music. No way you can watch it without music.

I'll probably end up ripping it and just using the main tiko intro as the start of a bunch of other stuff on a disc.

I then played it on my 65 inch Mitsubishi 1080i crt, it has only component inputs, used sony s550 blue ray player. The picture quality wasn't that great.
I have to try again, because after watcing HD the whole week watching any SD usually looks bad. It could be that, not sure...
Sadly the sony will not playback the HD transport stream since it sees the dvd folder structure.
Burn the ts to a dvd & try playing that on your 65 inch.

Quick Update:

Those of you waiting for your custom discs, they will be shipped out in the next few days (tomorrow there is no mail service).

Regarding the trvia. because it's random we elected not to have audible audio for it (it technically has an audio track but it's silent) because the music would get chopped up every time you played it. We chose it to be random because it's no fun looking through the same 5 slides or so every time you put your disc on while waiting for people to get their snacks and such.

I just thought I should chime in here since I received my Tiko disc last Friday. :)
Thanks goes out to Richard for the personal call to let me know he had sent my disc. I received it Saturday as he said I would… just in time for my weekend get-together.
The disc was a big hit with my guests.
I had my HD-DVD player, (XA2) playing the trivia as guests wandered into the room and I was giving everyone a very brief tour of the theater.
Once we sat down, I was surprised at how people got into the trivia!
I hit the menu button and went through all of the features of the disc. Everyone got a kick out of seeing our name on the screen.
Once the disc concluded, I switched over to the Blu Ray player where I already had a movie loaded and we watched the feature movie.
I have to say, I am very impressed and happy with my purchase.
Are there a few things I would change on the disc… yes. One of the big things I would change as others have noted is the trivia by adding some music to the background.
But I realize you can’t please everyone.
The bottom line… I can’t wait for the Blu Ray version and for Richards next project.
:)

Finally got my Tiko after a year of waiting. I bought a personalized copy. I enjoyed CERT, and thought it added a lot to the "show-off" experience of guests in my HT. Really illustrated the surround channels in my HT. The personalized section always gets a response.

IMO, Tiko doesn't do this. He's cute, and the sound moves around, but doesn't really show off my system. The video quality doesn't seem to be as good as CERT, and even via my Panny RP-82 via SDI to my VP30, the PQ is not great. The text is fuzzy on the menus. The bassimator is OK, but again, kind of a disappointment.

I expected a lot more for my $69.95, including a HD DVD or BD version long before now. I've given up on the BD version, and like many here, am happy to receive something for my money after a year long wait.

Overall, I feel like I've overpaid for what finally arrived, and don't think I'll ever see a HD version. Unless I receive the HD version soon, as in weeks not months, I think a partial refund is in order. Seems like I paid $39.95 for Cert, and that's about what Tiko should have cost, IMO. I think this opinion is probably shared by many other customers.

Richard, now's a good time to speak up. Are we going to see the promised BD version?

I couldn't agree more. Very underwhelmed with Tiko & Bassimator. I think Cert does a much better job at showing off my system. I really thought this intro would improve upon the original --- especially with the length of time it took to finish --- but in my opinion, the only improvement was in the animation. It's a cool intro, but not worth the cost nor the long wait. Was really let down by Bassimator --- especially after all the build-up on this forum and the warning on the disc. The shark was kinda cool --- wish it wasn't hidden. Would like to check it out in the promised BD version.

I actually had a couple of AVS members over to my place a few days ago who, overall... spoke positively of the intro.
The one negative was/is the price was excessive for what you get. I agree. The other negative is the Bassamater is a bit underwhelming. Maybe there was just to much build-up surrounding the BM.

On the other hand, IF Richard stands behind his promise he made to us that he will be getting us a Blu Ray version of TIKO, I'd say it was a pretty good deal. :)

Yep, that's the key.

I too was underwhelmed with the intro. In fact, my wife and I watched it the day we got it and it hasn't been out of the case since. Don't really know if it will, since we'd rather watch some of the demo discs I made when visitors come.

However, an intro in Blu would get some use. Don't think it's gonna happen, but it'd be the only way I'd feel I didn't waste $70.

PS. Can't seem to access bitstreamanimation.com or customintros.com Both come back with invalid host names. That's not a good sign.

I doubt that he would. Sure seems to have made a lot of money from it, without working too hard or at least too quickly.

While some may say that I am being unfair, the fact that Richard has gone absolutely radio silent speaks volumes.

I expressed an opinion in the past that a partial refund is in order since not all of the product has been delivered to anyone (HD version). I'm convinced it will never happen, and Richard's obvious lack of customer skills and communication reinforce my opinion. Way too many chances for him to do the right thing, and all seem to have been passed up.

I feel strongly that I was ripped off, along with the others who believed in him. Tiko was worth what I paid for Cert, at most, IMO.

It's a shame. Could have been a great experience.

But some of us pre-ordered after it was announced that a Blu Ray version would be included when available. I would not have ordered if I didn't expect to get a BD version at some point. I ordered in January of 2007, well after the above was posted. As we all know, DTS Master Audio is only available on BD or HD DVD. We knew then that it would not be available on SD DVD.

The "current Cert owner" discount didn't happen, either.

I re-read this thread and did not see anything that contradicted these promises. Even if "things changed" later, the price I paid was stated to include the HD version. If the HD version was to be deleted, a partial refund, or the option to cancel the order and receive a complete refund was only fair.

Neither happened.

It is clear that Richard did not fulfill his commitment to anyone, including those who got a "mostly-completed" SD version, like me.

What a shame. I'm only out a few bucks, but Richard has lost his good name.

Anybody heard anything new?

Nothing new here. Ordered Tiko March 14/08, sent e-mail July31 08 and received a reply from Richard that my custom intro would be shipped the next week, tried another e-mail two weeks ago, as I still hadn't received my order, which was returned as undeliverable. Looks like no Tiko for me which is a shame as I had previously received a CERT DVD and thought maybe a return customer would be looked after a bit better

Has anyone reported him to the AVS mods?? He certainly used this site to promote and sell his product.

Wow, guys, I had no idea that there was this much outstanding business. I haven't spoken to Rich in a while, but he did return an email last week. I'll let him know that this thread needs some attention.

So disappointed in everything. Just having time to put in my 2 cents, but talk about not really living up to your promises/hype or personal responsibilities. In the end, it all comes around.

My beef: The quality, No HD disc, No music with trivia, and it just wasn't worth the money. I feel for all of you that had a personalized intro done.

Agreed. We watched it the day we got it and haven't watched it since. We have other demo discs that show off surround better and show off bass better. The trivia track is useless. I wish I wouldn't have paid so much for the personalized one and the only reason I did is because I figured I'd eventually get a personalized blu ray version. I already have other personalized SD DVD demo discs.

Mine's in the trash. I'm too embarrassed to show it to my guests. Oh yes, mine was a custom.

I haven't heard from him myself. I noticed that the websites are down, too (my only involvement was to create those sites, and they are gone). I'm not sure what is going on.

$13 was a good deal.

However, most of us paid $69.95 for a "customized" version and expected a HD or BD version to be suplied soon thereafter, as promised. I was also a CERT customer, and felt that it was a good value for the customized version (That's part of the reason I bought Tiko.)

Oh well...

I have only shown mine 3 times.
Pretty big waste of money if you ask me as well.
I think it is sad that Rich is MIA.
I am also bummed about the lack of music in the trivia.

Anyone click on customintros.com lately. Try it. You'll get ported to the Offit Insurance Agency's website. Think maybe Rich has decided on a new career?

Potentially a source for those with ongoing issues to find our guy?

If you do a WHOIS search for customintros.com, it lists an administrative contact street address and telephone numbers for Richard Fairbrother. Google Maps shows the address to be a house, not a business complex.

To all:

Intros have been sent out to everyone. As of last month, even Meddy's was sent to him. So was Washam's CeRT. In fact, many of you who got refunds also got your discs anyway.

As for the Blu-ray, there are still plans to get it done, but as I've said before, there is no timeframe. Our infrastructure doesn't support it at this time. Once software and hardware is released that does, it will be taken care of. This hasn't changed though people's perceptions of it have.

As for the sites being down we are not taking new orders or doing new business until Blu-ray versions are made and I can determine whether or not I want to continue this line of work. Anyone who needs to reach me if they by any chance do not have their disc, can email me at rfairbro@rochester.rr.com.

As far as no music on the trivia, that was done because the trivia is random. I made a decision based on the fact that I would find it to be boring if I saw the same slides in the same order all the time and each time I played the disc. But in order to do that, there can't be music. It would have to be 15 second clips and not a continuous piece. Oh well. You can't please everyone.

As for people saying they don't like it or it's in the trash, I'm sorry you feel that way, Tiko was an enormous challenge and was seen as a better disc for us here than CeRT was. More animations, easter egg, trivia and the like. Frankly, compared to other discs out there that cost $100 plus for customization, Tiko came in at a better price point, with DTS and with more professional grade animation. I'm proud of it, but between the release debacle and the current economic climate, I can't say it's been a success.

Bitstream is still a business entity but there won't be any more discs forthcoming from us. It was fun at first but no longer.

I have yet to hear back from you via email. I have neither received my CERT custom disk nor a refund from my order five months ago. Paypal was unable to retrieve my money from you after I tried unsuccessfully to contact you via phone/email. Then your website has been down for months also. Could you please pm me or respond to my emails I have sent? I'll be happy to provide you the details via pm if you could resolve this ongoing issue for me. Thanks.....

So which is it? "As for the Blu-ray, there are still plans to get it done" or "there won't be any more discs forthcoming from us"?

Richard, I can't say I'm sorry that you didn't have "fun" near the end with this endeavor. Work isn't always fun, which is why you get paid to do it. A hobby is supposed to be fun. You pay for the privilege of doing it. You got paid. In the opinions of many on this thread, much more than the final product was worth. I didn't have "fun" waiting for months for a product that disappointed. And I paid YOU for that!

You promised much more than you delivered, perhaps for good reasons. Maybe the circumstances were beyond your control. In any case, they were much more under your control than ours. The right thing to do is to provide a partial refund.

At least be honest with your customers and tell us whether the BD version will ever be produced.

You guys ever here about what happened to the people that worked at Enron? Or hurricane Katrina? Sometimes it's best to take your $70 hit* and move on with your life ;) :p :D.

*Which in this case evidently means not getting a custom DVD that was quite what you expected.

It saddens me that this project was such a flop.

I was one of the early buyers, I waited, waited,
waited.. and waited. Finally I said enough and
got a refund. I'm glad I did.

Richard still made good and actually sent me 3
copies (first release, second release with audio fix,
Third custom version).

I don't know if it was they hype/build up or that I
really enjoy my custom copy of CERT but TIKO really
just didn't do it for me. I've watched it once or twice
but now it sits in my dvd rack collecting dust.

I'd have to say I doubt any of you will ever see a BD
version.

Who hasn't received their original TIKO order out there?

Meddy

You're lucky Lumpy69, money back and three copies. No money back and still not 1 copy for me !!

I ordered last year around December and never receive anything. Finally had Richard respond to my emails and we exchanged a few dozen emails over the last 7 months. He's promised repeatedly to send my custom Cert disk but still has not. He even said he sent me a free tiko disk for the wait a month back, it never arrived and when I pressed him the past month for updates on my Cert disk he said was mailed, he has failed to reply since. I'm starting to think I have been ripped off. And it seems like I'm not the only one here. Is there anyone else who hasn't received what they paid for yet? I'd like to get together and see what legal recourse options we have here. I mean it was only $70 but it's the principal of the matter, and I offered to accept just a refund and go on my way but he's refused to acknowledge my request. I'm beyond aggravated at this point and will pursue this legally if I don't get what I paid for or a refund here asap.

I had emails from Richard telling me how much work he had done to fix the problem on my disc and how he was sending it to me, the implication was that everyone else had the same issue.

When it didn't arrive I also didn't get any response to my email.

However mine was a generic version and therefore somewhat cheaper I decided not to waste any more time the guy obviously doesn't deliver on his promises.

Well, I received my product, but as I've said before, the only reason I bought was because of the promise to get a Blu Ray version. I have no need for the SD version and other than the initial testing of the product, it's still sitting in it's case unused.

So, yes, I'd consider myself someone that never received what they purchased.
