Yeah, that makes sense to me. In your front row, your non-scope horizontal viewing angle should be pretty similar to your scope image angle in the back row.

This is why I'm planning a constant-area approach -- I won't have a closer row to move to, since the geometry of my room yields unusable screen sizes if I try to get 36 degrees in the second row. And, I'd prefer a somewhat smaller 1.78 image size than I'd get with constant-width, at least for most content.

My actual plan is to use a 1.78 screen (rather than the traditional 2.05 for CIA) so that I can watch IMAX Blu-ray and features like Planet Earth at maximum size, but I'll mask/zoom most 1.78 stuff down a bit, especially some TV content that uses a lot of shaky handheld camera.

Anyway, I'll save the gory details for my own thread when I start it shortly. Thanks for the info!

This is how I originally planned my scope/ flat viewing but after about two or three scope films, sitting in the front row, I couldn't stand sitting in the second row. I felt like I was on a diet and it had none of my favorite foods.

Actually Mark, I DO have BOSE speakers - they were donated by a member on the forum just so I could show people the difference between a BOSE system and what a real speaker system sounds like - I just have to hide the components from view because I don't want people to get the wrong impression.

Behind the screen, I have:
Genesis 6.1 speaker system with the 6.1c for the center and lots of subs for a 7.5 configuration on audio.
Also, I have a Phase Technology dARTS system in there as well, configured as a 7.2 audio system. While each of them sound quite nice, I have a bit more bass with the Genesis system.

They move your seats in sync with the action on the screen. While they have been a success in the commercial installations that have occured in the last 18 months or so, the technology has been available in the home market since 2001. I purchased my first D-BOX system in 2002. To date they have somewhere around 900-1000 titles that have been programmed for motion information.

Size does matter - at least that's what Art's wife told me. I thought I was set but then she said, "What, you think only his screen is big? Boogie Nights was his unauthorized biography."

And I do not have the best model train layout, but I do have the best train of model layouts. Scott Baio is a close second though.

The projector at the moment is still a Digital Projection Mercury 5000 HD. It is connected via DVI.

Last time I got the theater running, I dropped off the forums for a long time. I hope to not disappear this time. ;)
