I wanted to get a new thread started for discussing features, settings, impressions, etc. of the Denon S-101 or S-301.

I have had the S-301 for a little while and I think its awesome. Without question, its not as good as a 5.1 to 7.1 surround sound set-up, but it has some outstanding benefits...namely a near surround sound with great 'sound' producing speakers. Its solid for movies, stereo, cd's, mp3s, etc. I gave up my old 5.1 setup for space reasons and I was tired of the wires everywhere. I do plan to have a home theatre set-up in the near future, but for now, this Denon works very well for me.

I have also found the upscaling DVD to be nice when coupled with my Sony XBR.

Only downside is price, but what's new.

Your thoughts.

True, but those threads are not by actual owners.

showthread.php?t=632166 is by owners (unhappy ones though) but the problem is solved with my set-up.
Very pleased with the performance, although I'm not an expert.

Now to a lesser problem ! Anyone know how to force my tv to automatically switch to hdmi when playing a dvd on the s301 connected with hdmi, it works with scart but not with hdmi.
TV is Panasonic Viera 42inch
Thanks

Any new news on a new replacement for the S-301 for year 2007? I hope their speakers will be a little shorter because I can't fit them on my book shelves. They're too high!!!

I wish to use a usb hard disk for storing mp3 files for playing on the S-301. I bought a WD 60GB Passport HD, but have problems connecting it to the Denon.
Its light flashes on and off every few secinds and "Disconnect" appears on the DENON display. I will return the HD tomorrow.

Does anybody have any experience with other types of USB HDs?

Hi, I have the same problem. I tried 2 sticks and 1 drive, always same reaction: after a few seconds S301 display shows DISCONNECT. Anyone who can help?
