View Full Version : Harmony 880 Official Thread. For all info and FAQs
I currently have a Harmony 676 remote, I've had it for a little over a year, and it has gone to complete ****. Half the buttons barely work, I have to mash the stupid rubber buttons and jiggle them around to get them to work, and only sometimes will it work. A lot of times it'll double push. That's awesome when you're hitting previous channel, cause you'll end up on the same channel you were watching when you hit the button! Oh yea, and the foam that presses down on the batteries is worn out so the buttons pop up some, that coupled with the fact that the plastic tab on the bottom of the battery cover snapped off, and you get a remote that shuts off occasionally because the batteries have popped loose.
Alright, enough off topic.
I'm about 3 button mashes from hurling this thing against a wall, so I'm going to need a new one soon. How do the 880's buttons hold up compared? It seems that they would be a little better due to the design of them? Has anyone had any similar problems with the 880?
Thanks everyone.
You could probably fix your 676 fairly easily if you wanted to try that first. You can pull it apart and clean the button contacts with a bit of rubbing alcohol. Do a search on Remotecentral for remote cleaning to get more info.
You can also get a new battery cover by phoning tech support. They'll probably replace it for free, but even if they don't they only cost a few dollars.
Go to the device settings and select more options - then "adjust power settings".
Select next on the 1st screen. It then asks how to turn it off and on. Select the 2nd option - a button for on, and a different button for off. Then it will ask what command to use for power on, then another for power off. I selected "eject" for both.
Thanks for reply.

I didn't know about the battery cover, that's pretty cool. I may take it apart again and see if theirs anything else I can do about it. It's worth a shot I suppose before I go and drop a bunch of money on a new one. I'll check out remotecentral and maybe see if there is something I missed.
Thanks man!

montster_x 08-30-06, 03:45 PM hi all --
i'm using a harmony 880 with a samsung hl-s5087w and onkyo receiver. i just got an hr10-250. after going through the setup with the harmony to reconfigure the settings, i've run into a problem: whenever i hit "watch tv," everything works correctly, except that there's no audio coming from my speakers. i can adjust the audio, change channels, all that, but no sound comes out. if i shut everything off and turn on the TV and A/V receiver without using the harmony, the audio works fine. previously, i was using the harmony with the same setup, except with the standard directivo, and i had no problems. before i call harmony, i thought i'd ask if anyone else had this problem. (apologies if this was ever addressed earlier; i searched the thread and didn't see anything regarding this.) thanks.
edit to add: i have the directv receiver connected to my tv via HDMI, and i have a digital optical audio cable running from the tv to the A/V receiver.

Sounds like the 880 isn't puting the Onkyo in the right mode for audio. Maybe you need to tell the 880 that the receiver isn't responding to commands correctly and see if that fixes it.

i checked that already, and it's the correct setting. when i power up the TV and Onkyo on their own, the audio works fine, and it's the same setting on the Onkyo ("Video 1") that the harmony sets it to.
blazeblaze 08-30-06, 04:20 PM You could also try relearning the commands from the original Onkyo remote (versus using the commands from the Harmony database), which are used to switch modes. It would only take a minute to try. It's possible that they have a bad command in their database.

hey, that worked! thanks! how strange, though: when i checked the list of Onkyo commands through the harmony setup, there was nothing next to the "InputVideo1" command. so i had the harmony learn the command from the Onkyo remote, and that seemed to fix it. the strange part is that when i was using the harmony with my standard directivo, it had no trouble switching correctly between inputs on the Onkyo, including "Video 1." oh well, thanks again for the suggestion.

actually, i spoke too soon. just turned on the tv again using the harmony, and same thing: no audio. i tried switching the Onkyo to another input and then switching it back, and nothing. then i pressed "watch a dvd" on the harmony, waited for everything to switch over, then hit "watch tv" again to switch everything back, and the audio was working. so i'm not sure what's going on. i've already contacted logitech, so we'll see.

I think you can even get a new keypad membrane(the thing the contacts are on) from Harmony for about $10.
Pullo66 08-30-06, 07:45 PM My Harmony remote should be arriving tomorrow.
I was taking the "Test Drive" on the Logitech Website and noticed that it prompts me to input info for my cable box, and a PVR (which I assume is the same as DVR) box. Now my cable box and DVR box are one in the same....Should I simply enter the information twice? Or should I just enter it into one (then should it be cable box or PVR)?
I have a Comcast HD/DVR box.
Thanks!

Not sure about the comcast box, but for my DirecTV TiVo I just configured the PVR and it works fine.

Put in the actual make and model, and you only need to add one device.
ie Motorola 6200
Comcast has nothing to do with it.

Maybe it's a timing issue with the commands going to the Onkyo. I believe that there are settings that you can change to increase the amount of time in between the commands that are sent. I'm guessing your 'watch TV' does successive commands to the Receiver like turn on, change input, etc. Maybe the command before the change input command isn't done when the harmony sends the chang input.

This happened to me. In my case Logitech adjusted the "Power on Delay" setting and it helped.

yeah, i messed with those settings, to no avail. i figured out that if the tv is on any other input than HDMI 1 (which the HD DVR is connected to), then when i turn the tv on and it switches over to HDMI 1, there's sound. if the tv is on HDMI 1 when it's turned off, then for some reason there's no sound when i turn it back on. so i went back through the set up and where it asks if you want to add a command when leaving the "watch TV" activity, i told it to switch to HDMI 2. now, when the tv is powered on, it's never already on HDMI 1, which was causing the problem.

i experimented with that, too, to no avail.
thanks for the suggestions, everyone.
Arthur Hancock 08-31-06, 06:38 PM NEWBIE QUESTION! I just ordered the 880 and I'd like to know if it can do the following:
In order to listen to SACDs on my Denon DVD-2910, I need to go into setup, go to HDMI audio, and change it from Mulichannel (Normal) to 2 Channel (to allow the 5.1 analog outs to work).
Can the Harmony be programmed to do this?

If you can do it exclusively from your remote that came with your denon then yes you should be able to... it might take some tinkering and making a custom activity just for SACD but it should be possible...

Given enough discrete codes the Harmony can do just about anything, and can learn what it needs to from the original remote if missing. Remote programming is more of an art than science, but, when it works it's magical. If in doubt call Harmony Tech to make sure of compatibility. They've seen it all.

You need to adjust the activity by going to the wizard and adding the appropriate steps to the beginning of the activity and complimentary ones to the end of the activity to reset everything.
I posted the steps to do a similar adjustment a few pages back in this thread.
BTW - I have a Listen to DVD activity where I do exactly what you're wanting to do but with my Denon 2900/3803.

Yeah, It should be right above the Channel Up button
raghu1111 09-01-06, 03:27 PM Watch DVD : Devices : DVD, TV, and Receiver
Watch Tivo : Devices : Tivo, TV
Since 'Record' button does not do anything in DVD mode, I want to set it to TV's 'Aspect' command. Fine, I set it to 'Aspect' under TV for 'Watch DVD'.
Well, this smart Harmony interface, sets 'Record' to 'Aspect' under Tivo mode as well.. Ofcource 'Record' is already set to Tivo's record.
Why on earch can't I set 'Record' to what I want in the mode I want?
I can probably get around by adding some dummy devices etc.. but why should I have to? Its pretty simple thing I want it to do. Btw, is there any penalty to adding multiple Dummy devices?
To get around this, I specifically learn the button from the other device into the device that I want custom buttons for.

thanks. I was planning to do exactly this. I am surprised how rigid Harmony's configuration is.
highlander21 09-02-06, 01:19 PM Hey everyone I am thinking about buying the 880 but I have a question when my Isf guy comes to calibrate my tv He is going to give me a macro to turn the overscan off. So I need a remote that can do this. Will the 880 handle this or should i be looking at a different remote? Thanks in advance :)
dirtydan 09-02-06, 02:54 PM You should be able to send that macro to the 880 from your existing remote. I could be wrong, but a call to Harmony tech would answer that question.
BirdKey 09-02-06, 03:09 PM I've had the 880 for about a month and so far I think it does a very good job handling the configuration here at my house. I've spent time setting up the 880 to do just what I want. I also have an apartment with a different set of devices. How can I easily load the specific devices and activities for which ever place I am going to be? I assume I can put them all in the 880 and have TV1 and TV2 etc, but this seems cumbersome. I'd like to have each configuration be a separate load without having to redefine them each time I tavel.

How is he going to "give you a macro"?
A macro is simply a sequence of commands, so if all he's doing is telling you a sequence of buttons to press, you can program that into the 880 as part of the activity start sequence.
If he's got something programmed into another remote that he wants to teach to you, you can learn the sequence using RAW mode.

It would be much easier to just get a second remote for the apartment. You can get a 520 for under $100 in the US I think, and it will work just as well as the 880, just without the color screen and rechargeable battery.
If you don't want to buy a second remote, the only other options would be to set up a second set of "Apartment" activities like you mentioned, or you could set up a second user account for the apartment and log in and update the remote for whichever location you will be using it in.

Harmony remotes are activity driven, you need a remote that is device driven with macro capability. Maybe Universal?

It might be a good idea to learn all the individual commands that make up the sequence, as well as the sequence itself. This will make sure you can get it to work, and give you a bit more flexibility in setting in up.
I just purchased the 880 and I'm anxiously awaiting delivery. I have a 2 year old 659 that has served me well but two of the hard buttons have worn out and rendered it almost useless. So I would love to be able to copy the settings to the 880. Is this possible? Can I simply save the 659 config file to my desktop and do a restore to my new 880?

I think if you add your 880 to your current account it will absorb the settings of your current 659. I did that when I went from my 676 to 880. I set up a seperate account (email) for the 676 to isolate it from the 880. You'll have to tweak a few things because the key layout is different, but most of it will transfer.
Just got a new 880 and I am quit happy except for the long amount of time it takes to register the channel three digits from media/favorite channels. I have to keep the remote pointed to my cable box/DVR (Scientific Atlanta) until all three digits are registered or it does not work. I tried to change the preferences in the Logitech website but the interkey delay is already "0"... Is this something i will need to live with?

sleepaholic 09-04-06, 11:04 PM Need a little help. I've done multiple searches and I think I need to adjust the inter-device speed setting or the repeat value, but I don't know which way for which device.
I have the volume on the 'watch TV' activity controlling the TV. That works fine. Then I press 'sound' then my volume control buttons goes to my yamaha reciever. But when I press the volume controls, both the receiver volume and TV volume controls are responding. how do I stop the tv volume from being affected?
Any ideas what to do, other than remapping the receivers volume to different keys? Cause that wouldn't make any sense to anyone.
Thanks in advance.
dirtydan 09-04-06, 11:45 PM You can create another Activity and have it turn on the Yamaha sound and turn off the TV sound, when you switch from one to the other only the sound source changes.
Hey guys I got a problem with my 880. Just returned a 2nd remote because of the craddle problem and got a 3rd one. Got it setup but now this remote's title function doesn't work. The settings has it turned on but no amount of tilting or even slight shaking will make it turn on. Only pressing the GLOW button will make the backlight come on. Anyone have this problem?
gogators93 09-06-06, 12:22 AM I picked up a harmony today and have to return it tomorrow. The Activity button does not do anything when selected. I looked all the website and I could not find a phone number to call. Going through support took me to an email support site. Did I miss it or is there no phone support for these remotes?

I have the 676, but just ordered the 880 which should be here by Monday. My question is whether I will simply be able to delete the 676 from my existing Logitech account, or will I need to set up a new one to program the 880? Thanks.
Did you setup the activities? I know that sounds stupid for me to ask but it doesn't automatically have activities unless you program them in.

Yes. I setup the complete remote with all activities and was testing it. I could select an activity when displayed for the test but the the activity button did nothing when pressed. It did not even light the remote. I got a new one today but have not tried it yet.

Thats not related to his problem. I have the same issue with my Moto 6412. This has been mentioned before with no replys that I am aware of.
msattler 09-08-06, 04:45 PM So I have a Harmony 880 and a Phillips Plasma TV and when I look at the remote controls I see actual IR commands for each Individual Input/Source such as AV1, AV2, AV3, HDMI 1, HDMI 2, Side, etc.
Now when I chose an activity it seems the remote itself is instead using the Next Input IR command. When I run through the wizard it only asks what input to goto, not what IR command to use to go to that Input. Is there a way to change this feature? I would just love not having to wait while it hits next input 4 times to go from AV1 to HDMI 1.
Thanks,
Marcus

Do these actually work? Harmony has these codes for my Panasonic also but they don't work. I guess those work only for some models that support them.

Once the direct codes work, I think you can specifiy a command to use to switch to the input. I have to double check the interface.

They do work, when I switch to the TV device, I see them there and can go directly to the source I want. I just don't know where to select it, or change it, so that it goes directly to the source when changing activities.
I did however go in and change how fast it can change the source, from 500ms to 0ms, which does make it faster. Still seems silly I can't just tell it to goto HDMI1 or HDMI2 or AV1 directly.

From the web configuration, for me it is under 'More Options --> Advanced Options couple more screens and then "How do you change inputs for your TV using the original remote?" : There are 4 options :
1. Flip through
2. Go direct
3. some thing ..
4. press button to bring menu and go direct.

msattler 09-08-06, 09:08 PM From the web configuration, for me it is under 'More Options --> Advanced Options couple more screens and then "How do you change inputs for your TV using the original remote?" : There are 4 options :
1. Flip through
2. Go direct
3. some thing ..
4. press button to bring menu and go direct.

Thanks, I forgot about that option screen. I did go in earlier to change my devices to have seperate on/off commands for those that allowed for them. It works like a champ now!

Now I'll have to find my receipt for my extended warranty.

FYI:
The repeat signals page you were in is just for common communication between the remote and the device.
All commands are sent repeatedly. Sometimes devices need more or less repeats. If you for example hit the scroll key in a menu and when you stopped scrolling the menu scrolled a few more lines you would back off on the repeat setting.
If on the other hand the scroll didn't work every time you hit it you would increase the repeat setting.

yea, i've tried that but it still doesnt work. i think there needs to be a longer delay between the two commands. i have the delay set to 500ms. i dont want to increase it that much more because then adjusting other things on the projector becomes sluggish. any ideas?

Try going into "remote settings" and disabling the tilt sensor.
Update the remote
Go back in and re-enable the tilt sensor.

What Harmony software did you use for the update and have you updated it since your last succesfull use?
I ask because I recently updated the Mac version from 5.x to 7.x and everything went to hell, including the tilt sensor not working anymore. Reverting back to 5.x restored the tilt sensor function.

chadamorrill 09-13-06, 09:20 PM Hey everyone. I did do a search for Olevia and Harmony 880, and LT37HVS and harmony 880 and couldn't find a thing, so I'm going to post. Here's what I got.
Syntax Olevia LT37HVS
Yamaha receiver
Dish HD 811
Mac Mini
Fisher DVD S1000
Dish DVR 825
So the Harmony 880 I have will control all of my devices no problem, and if we're only watching tv (through the 880) the remote functions perfectly. The problem becomes when we want to switch to a different activity. EVERYTHING switches as it should EXCEPT for the video setting on the TV. It will bring up the input menu, but that's it. What's really weird is that I set an extra "input button command" at the end of each activity, and if you go back to activities and hit "play DVD" again (second time total after first viewing TV) the input on the TV will change correctly. It makes no sense why it doesn't work the first time. It is like that with EVERY device I have. It only works if you were previously watching that activity or you select the same activity twice (does this make sense at all?!?!) I have not made adjustments to the time setting, but I'm not actually sure that it would help, honestly. I've contacted Logitech support so I'm anxiously awaiting reply from them, but I thought I'd try here too to see if anyone had any replies. I love this remote and would hate to take it back, but it's driving me a little nuts!!
Thanks in advance!

blazeblaze 09-13-06, 11:55 PM Does everyone's 880 sound like it's got a piece of plastic rattling around inside it?]
This question is asked often in this thread, the answer is: it's the tilt sensor.
Hey everyone. I did do a search for Olevia and Harmony 880, and LT37HVS and harmony 880 and couldn't find a thing, so I'm going to post. Here's what I got.
Three things to try...
Go to "Adjust Inputs" for the TV device and answer all the questions carefully.
Increase the Inter-device delay and the Input delay for the TV
Call tech support!

Cause
This issue occurs when you update the remote using version 7.0 of the remote software
Solution
Manually reboot the remote.
1. Remove the battery from the remote.
2. Re-insert the battery
3. The tilt sensor will now work as intended
Note: The remote software team is working hard on software update that will address this issue so you don't have to remove and re-insert the battery after the update. The software update will be released shortly.

Gently press down on the indentation on the battery cover on the back of the remote (almost in the center of the remote), while at the same time sliding the cover away from the center of the remote. It should come right off.
I've tried searching the forum and researching on-line, but am having trouble finding an answer to this question. I have a Scientific Atlanta SD8300 DVR from Time Warner Cable and need to know if any of the Harmony remotes can be programmed for the A B C buttons on the OEM remote? In order to operate the guide you have to use the buttons which is asinine to me. They should have left it to Menu, Info, Exit, and arrow keys like every other manufacturer. I'm guessing that these buttons can be programmed, but how are they displayed on the remote? Can you add them to the LCD screen via the USB hookup? Any input is greatly appreciated because setting up my home theater using the factory remote is proving to be a pain. Thanks for any info.
What kind of device should an Ipod be assigned to? My Denon 2807 A/V receiver has an Ipod Dock, but I don't know the best way to assign it to my 880. Thanks!
Chuck

You can either map them to hard buttons on the remote, or to the LCD screen. There are "Menu, Info, Exit" hard buttons...so if you wouldn't need those for anything else in your "Watch Cable DVR" Activity, then you could probably just use those.

They should already be on the LCD screen on any activity that uses the 8300.
If they are not and you want me to fix them just PM me.

Wouldn't the Denon 2807 device have these controls built in, if it's got an Ipod dock? If so...I wouldn't think you would need to add the Ipod as a seperate device. You probably would want to create an Activity though, such as "Listen to Ipod", just as you would have "Watch TV", "Listen to Radio", "Watch DVD", etc.

Well, for a Pioneer Elite VSX-82 (and 84), you need to add a new device called:Digital Music Server - Pioneer Digital Music Server (Elite VSX-82TXS (iPod)) It is in the Harmony database. With it, you can create a Play iPod activity. In the case of the pioneer it maps the keys to iPod control. As far as I could find, there was no (simple) way to do this with the Pioneer Receiver device.
So you may want to try to add a new device -- a digital music server -- and see if your Denon is listed.
Hope this helps.

Hope this helps. That was a big help, but still doesn't have me set up correctly. Harmony does list my iPod dock, but seems to want to have it set to "tuner" when, in fact, it is set to "dock" or most certainly - not "tuner". So far, I've found no way to change this setting - plus the Harmony 880 doesn't mimick the Denon remote for the control of the iPod. I'm a little confused since it listed my Denon iPod dock by number. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Brandonw27858 09-18-06, 12:41 AM Is it just me or is this battery a pain to remove? I have to get a knife and literally pry it out of the remote. Also is it possible to set the remote to change inputs differently for different activities. For my TV you can select inputs just by pressing input 1,2,3, etc. But if I want to watch local HD channels and switch to the Antenna A input I have to go through the input list and scroll to the input I want.

It was hard for me as well especially I didn't actually know where to press. I did not want use more force with out knowing much. Finally above advice helped. The trick is, you need to press on the depression (indentation) hard untill it makes a 'click' noise then it easily slides off.

It's hard to know (since I've never set up a Denon), but you should be able to change the input type by reruning setup for the new play Digital Music Server activity. As for key mapping, you can do that manually by "Change the behavior of buttons" under Customize...
The other option (probably better) is to call Harmony Customer Support -- I've always had good results with them.
AV Land 09-18-06, 08:19 PM I've had my 880 for 5 months now without any real problems. Since a week or two, my unit will not recharge.
I've read a lot about the cradle problem in this forum but it always seemed that people were having problems right from the start (sure, it's always been a bit fussy and I had to wiggle it a bit to get it in the right position but now no matter what I do it just won't charge). I tried cleaning the contacts and even putting a piece of cardboard behind the battery (as some suggested) but still nothing.
So, has anyone experienced that behavior after 4-5 months use (could it be the battery itself or can it still be the famous cradle problem)?
Thanks,

I don't have an iPod but when I configured my 2807 I had to call tech support because a lot of the 2807 settings were wrong (it seemed like a cut and paste from another model). It's probably better now but they might not have the iPod Dock settings right if nobody pointed it to them (remember this is still a rather new model).

Granted, it's a royal pain!
I use a small flat blade screwdriver, carefully pry it out. Needs one of those pieces of ling fabric others use to pull out tight batteries, like my Axim.

Wow! Are we still talking about the 880? If I remove the battery cover and turn the unit upside down, the battery will fall off!! Well, I might be exxagerating a bit but the battery is so loose that a lot of people had to put a piece of cardboard in order to get the battery to make good contact. Is there a new generation of 880s out there?

There must be, my two month old 880 has a very snug compartment for the battery, it's not loose at all.
nellie7799 09-20-06, 12:48 AM I am having the standard problems with the remote, i.e. trouble making the contacts line up correctly, black residue on both sets of contacts, etc. I would be happy to RMA it but I bought it used off of ebay, and thus, Logitech will not honor the warranty.
My remote's battery is now dead and I am wondering if there is an alternate way to charge it.
For example, is there a battery charging device that would charge my 880's battery if I took it out of the remote? It would be annoying but I'd only have to do it once every week or less, and it would be worth it so I would be able to use my remote.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
bri1270 09-20-06, 10:15 AM I'm having issues with my 880 as well. I received my new charging base and battery and it still won't charge. It beeps and the screen saver starts up but the battery charge indicator doesn't do anything. For the heck of it, I checked the continuity on from the charging pads to the contacts in the battery compartment, and only one has continuity...wonder if that's a problem...
I am up against an ebay purchase as well, but I bought mine "new" and Logitech is telling me that the remote was logged on before under someone else. I remember opening the box and it certainly hadn't been opened before. I went back to the seller (not that someone would admit to having lied) and he said it was unused. I've asked Logitech to provide me with more details...The interesting thing, and I pointed this out to Logitech, is that they gave me a new charging station and battery under warranty without question.
Codeman 09-20-06, 10:41 AM The 880 charging interface is poorly designed. 3 contact points with insufficient weight to insure postive contact at all 3 points is not an intelligent design. I'm glad some folks have gotten good replacements. I went with a low-tech solution. I bought a tube of BB's from Walmart and tubes of CAIG'S DEOxIt/ProGold contact cleaner/conditioner from Radio Shack. Every couple of months, I use the CAIG products to make sure I've got good, clean surfaces. When I put it in the charger, the cardboard tube of BB's is ample to get a solid contact everytime. Problem solved.
Shame on Logitech for such a poorly designed feature. They should have looked at a very common device that most of us have that don't have this problem - cordless phones. Duh....
bri1270 09-20-06, 02:13 PM Agreed...I hate the design, and It's making me consider an alternative remote. I have a Pronto TSU2000 but by comparison, it's very bulky. I like the Harmony from an Ergonomic perspective (compared to the Pronto). But this whole charging this is a total Joke.

I must be the only one that has not had any issues with the charging cradle. Maybe you guys got ahold of a batch of the old defective units. Hopefully Logitech can take care of it for you by sending you a replacement.

I just put mine on the charger and didn't get the screens to light, so I cleaned everything real good, and now the screens light, but I have never had a charging light light up but it still charges just fine.
leftkidney 09-21-06, 05:32 AM For what its worth heres my 2 cents (maybe a little more) sorry it is long but hope it helps
I have had 6 880's in the past 10 months and I am still having trouble with mine
A side note in the owners manual I have that came with the 880 it shows the full batery as being solid green not 3 green bars but I have never seen it solid green and I had it on the charger for a week or more when I was gone
here are the problems I have had
1. For some reason I have noticed that if I pick up the remote and the display is turning off (it takes about 1 second for the display backlight to completly turn off, the actual LCD takes about 10 to 12 seconds to turn off, you can tell if you shine a flashlight on the LCD or it is bright in the room)
anyways if the backlight is turning off and I pick up the remote and the tilt sensor turns the backlight on again it either Reboots, or the tilt sensor stops working but if I press a button it lights up and I have to reboot it to fix it, or locks up and the screen wont come on I have to remove the batery to reboot it
2. Sometimes the Backlight will be Bright or Dim and when I pick it up and activate the tilt sensor or just press a button the Backlight will go from Bright to Dim or Dim to Bright and I can fix it by either Letting the LCD completly turn off (takes about 10 to 12 seconds) but sometimes this doesent work, or press the "Glow" button and wait for it to turn off and then back on again, or never stop until I reboot it (and yes the batery is atleast 2 bars most of the time 3 a full charge it can even be red and wont go this Dim)
3. Ever since 2 weeks ago I updated my remote and it now displays Monday as M.. and Wednesday as W.. where as befor it was Mon and Wed, Logitech has no idea and they never do when I call for a problem
well that is what I have had as problems and I am still having these problems
also maybe it is just me but whenever I call any Customer Care for any product or service I have, 95% of the time the words that come out of the Reps mouth more or less is "... you are the first person that has reported this problem" or "...I have never herd of that before and I know a lot about (insert name of product or service here)" most of the time it is a Level 2 or even 3 Tech and they have never herd or ot

please help - I cannot get my 880 to work with my Denon 2807, it will not change the input (i.e., vdr, dvd, etc). I used the Denon remote to help the Harmony learn the codes but it still does not work. Thanks. I'm using the 880 with my Denon 2807 just fine. Have you set the Denon as a device, and what activity are you trying to use that is showing the difficulty? I (we) can help you solve the problem, or you can call Logitech tech support at 1-866-291-1505 - they were real helpful in helping me solve my setup problem for the iPod docking station.

Hello,
Any advice on what I can do here. I have an 880 and when I start my PVR activity the first thing to go on is the Westy. Sometimes it comes on and sometimes it doesn;t aand I need to walk through the help to get it on. Minor inconvenience but is there anything simple I can do to increase the chances that the IR codes (two in this case - tv power on and tv mute commands) are both "caught" more frequently by the the Westy when starting the activity? There is usually no in between, if the power turns on the TV is always muted so it is either all or nothing.
Thanks,
epie
Chuck - thanks for your response. I set the Denon as my amp, it can turn it on and off, however, if I try to "watch TV" it is unable to change the input on the Denon to PDR (assuming it is on something else, like DVD). I can manually change it (with the Denon remote) to PDR, then assume I want to "watch DVD", again, it cannot change the input to DVD. I even used the Denon remote to help the Harmony remote "learn" the codes.

I also have a 2807 and have no problem switching inputs. I can only see 2 things that could be wrong:
1- When you look at the settings status on the web interface, you should see a line saying 'AV Receiver set to XXX' for each activity. Is the XXX the right input for each activity that you programmed?
2- You're not waiting long enough with the remote pointed in the right direction so that the last command (switch input) is lost.
Other than that I can't see why it wouldn't work.... If you find it to be something else let us know because i'm puzzled!
Thanks everyone - I called tech support, they were very helpful. First they had me download the latest software (version 7.0?) which is much better than the original software that came with the remote. For my problem, it appears that I incorrectly attempted to have the harmony "learn" the Denon remote codes. When I did it correctly, everything works fine.

ingenue007 09-23-06, 08:54 PM ugh i can't find my disk for the original harmony software (v4 IIRC). does anyone have a link where I can download it. the newer versions are HORRIBLE.
ingenue007 09-23-06, 09:07 PM oh just found it http://images.harmonyremote.com/EasyZapper/Downloads/LogitechHarmonyInstaller4.4.exe
but it doesn't work. doesn't recognize remote.

Yep, they are forcing the v7 download, I recently added a new Activity and when I went to update it, I was forced to install v7
ingenue007 09-23-06, 10:03 PM I hate the logitech app. I let the app load. I close the window, but leave the icon in the systray on. Then I go to members.harmonyremote.com and do everything I need form there. Much faster. When you update remote, the update window pops up and everything works from there.

I have done that also, but forgot the web address. I just tried what you listed, and it doesn't go to Harmony.
Update, I Googled "member harmony remote" and the first item took me right to my log-in.
nellie7799 09-24-06, 02:00 AM Well, I may have come up with an easy charge solution.
I purchased my remote used off of ebay, so the warranty doesn't cover my remote and i don't want to pay for it to be repaired by logitech.
Googling harmony 880 and charge and battery came up with tons of results and I found someone posting something saying that he had a generic nokia phone battery labeled 'BLB-2" that, although it had 4 contacts instead of 3, it could still power the 880, but the cradle wasn't able to charge the battery. So on ebay I bought a generic nokia battery charger that's compatible with "BLB-2" batteries and I'll see if it can charge the logitech battery. If not, I'll just buy a pair of generic BLB-2 batteries and swap those since they definitely power the 880.
This is a pretty convenient solution. I can get rid of the stupid charging base which looks ugly and just swap a pair of batteries in and out that actually hold charge longer (more mAH's)
I'll let you know how it works out.
twinpeaks 09-24-06, 02:32 PM Those many of you with Westy TVs, just got my 42w2 yesterday, my cursor buttons in the center of the remote are not working. The OK button works as ENTER (on the original remote) and the original remote works. I've done "custom" as "analysed" and as RAW with no luck, I just don't understand why RAW won't work.
twinpeaks 09-24-06, 02:50 PM OK I got it working with ANOTHER RAW update (?) but the presses are terribly slow. I see the delays section but inter-key is 0 . Suggestions please.

I just picked up one of the 880's. I am having all kinds of problems programming it but I will persevere. But the battery trick works fine for me. I have a bunch of BLB-2 batteries around that I use for various Nokia cell hones I have also standalone chargers for them. Charged up one of the batteries, stuck it in the 880 and it powered up fine. My BLB-2 batteries only have 3 contacts on them so they match the 880 ones fine In fact when I first got the 880 I couldn't help notice how similar they were to the BLB-2 batteries. Maybe Logitech got a good deal!

twinpeaks 09-25-06, 03:58 PM - Aargh!!! My tilt sensor is no longer working either. I haven't updated my remote in over 6 months, so I'm guessing it either died or there is something else wrong.
Now I'll have to find my receipt for my extended warranty.
Seems to be a bug with the tilt sensor going away after doing many updates quickly. Take our your battery and it will reset.

yep same thing happened here. This is why I hate the "user friendly" Harmony software. A simple toggle for the handset itself on or off needs you to power up the computer, plug in the remote, fire up the browser, web page, click thru pages, wait to download update, wait to reboot ...
stupid.
But they did leave an option for you to watch a slide show in the menus. Thanks Harmony, that's a real timesaver.
Of late my backlight has started to not switch off fully and drain my battery all night. I was hoping an update would fix it and it did. By not making my backlight work automatically.

- I haven't had a chance to follow up with Logitech, but I don't know if they can even help.
I didn't update my remote for over six months. The tilt sensor stopped working. So I tried the following.
- Took battery out for 5 minutes reinstalled. No good.
- Updated the remote again. Removed battery again. No good.
- Went into settings, turned off sensor. Updated & removed battery. Went into settings, turned sensor back on. Updated & removed battery. No good.
At this point, I'm not sure if Logitech tech support can even help. I did update my other 880 upstairs and had no problem with the sensor.

removing the battery doesn't reset anything so it doesn't help and there's no way to completely erase all the info to set it to factory condition. So try it this way:
- plug in USB
- remove battery
- turn off the tilt sensor
- update the remote without the battery in.
- turn on tilt sensor
- update remote again
- unplug from USB
- insert battery
- cross your fingers
whenever there has been an update problem, I've found that updating without the battery in usually helps.
twinpeaks 09-26-06, 05:26 PM My tilt sensor comes and goes at will - after an update. Try something simple like changing an option then changing it back then updating. I'll be surprised say after 4 updates if it does not return.
twinpeaks 09-26-06, 05:29 PM I really need some help from you West 42"LCD owners. I spent 3 hours on the phone with Logitech yesterday. I was highly impressed that they went to the level of detail that they went to on the phone. WOW.
I still have problems with changing inputs. My Westy does DVI->DVI2->HDMI as a toggle for firmware 1.19 . The TV also remembers where it left off.
The remote often does not get it right. It seems to me that sometimes the TV drops an input. If that's the case the Logitech just won't be totally reliable. Please let me know with 1.19 and with 1.00 if your DVI/HDMI is a toggle like this and if your 880 is successful and dependable at toggling the inputs through activities.

- I understand the bug could happen from the update. Problem is that before my tilt sensor worked, I hadn't updated for over 6 months. Meaning it just stopped working.

Having just gone through a BB EW deal, don't use it unlessit's your final option. You will get a gift card for what you paid for the remote and your time is over. So you'll be out the cost of the EW and dead in the water. Only use the EW if you have no other options. Keep dealing with Harmony until the original warranty is over. They don't give you a new remote, just what you paid. For me it was an XBox 369 that I bought with a $100 discount from AmEx. I got $325 back and now have to pay full price to replace it and lost the $50 of the EW inside 8 months. Net loss $150.
Bought my replacement at Costco.
I have finally managed to spend some quality time with the unit. Initial impressions were not good - it kept on turning off my cable box and TV (which takes 30 seconds to shut down and another 30 seconds to startup - JVC D-ILA), would not go to the right input (the TV has no direct input selection so you bring up an on screen menu), and when I tried to rename the inputs, got some strange message about the TV tried to set the state which was unknown!
Anyway after spending about 30 mins with Tech Support, have sorted out all my problems.
My setup
JVC D-ILA TV
ADB digital cable box
Samsung HD841 DVD player
Akai VCR
Home built PVR using Hauppage remote sensor and gbpvr PVR software
Found settings on the Harmony for direct selection of inputs which got over the input selection problem. For the one input that is not available via direct selection, programmed the input before and then a next input command (cute)
Logitech helped me with not having the cable box be turned off all the time and also to understand how to maintain the right state with devices on/off and the remote itself.
Not sure how it happened but when I programmed in a Hauppauge PVR the remote knew all the commands for gbpvr to stop/start FF/Rew/Esc/Up/Down/Left/Right the PVR software which is really cute.
As an added bonus followed the hint on this thread about batteries and am now using OEM Nokia BLB-2 batteries as backups. They work fine and I don't have to put the unit back on the charger all the time but instead keep some spare batteries at hand. That is good because I am encountering the problem where the remote doesn't sit properly on the base unit so I have to wiggle it all the time.
So in conclusion - this remote appears to be able to do all you want it to do - it just does needs work and it not necessarily a plug and play solution or something you can just pick up and use. But the investment in time brings benefits.
One cool thing my kids and wife like are the icons for the channels for favourite channels. Now they can look at the icon and press the channel they want rather than having to enter 2 or 3 digit channel numbers! Real cool.
Isn't the tilt sensor just a mercury switch? I don't know for sure, but that's my guess. Mine has acted up a couple times and is just shook the remote to free up the switch and it seems to work better after that.
Brandonw27858 09-27-06, 11:54 PM The tilt sensor/update problem is known issue for Harmony. They are working on a fix right now.

My tilt sensor worked fine until.... The v7 upgrade. The above procedure fixed it, however. Thanks!!
Brandonw27858 09-29-06, 02:16 PM The sensor doesnt stop working for me everytime, just about 90% of the time. If it does happen, I just take the battery out, after I find the sensor isn't working, let it sit for 30 seconds and pop the battery back in. That's it, everything is back to normal. My sensor was doing this before the v7 upgrade, they are working on a fix though.
tokerblue 09-29-06, 03:03 PM I'll know more this weekend when I try the upgrade. Although I currently am not using the V7 desktop software. I link directly through Logitech's web based application.
Dragon Reborn 09-30-06, 08:19 AM Having a problem with my remote and my gear:
Oppo dvd player using DVI-D connection to an Optoma HD72 projector.
SA8300 HDPVR using HDMI connection to pj.
While all my components are OFF, when I select the activity "watch a dvd", the projector does not always switch its input source to DVI-D. And somehow, even though the PVR power is off, it still sends a signal to the projector and the pj outputs this HDMI signal on screen. Only once in 10 tries did it switch to the proper DVI-D input.
However, when the projector is already on (e.g. "watch TV"), and then I switch to "watch a dvd", there is no problem and it switches to DVI-D.
:( :( :(
Any ideas???
Sounds like you need to increase the Power On Delay for the projector. Most projectors take ages before they are ready to accept commands when turned on. The Power On Delay for my projector is 15 seconds.
Look under Device -> More options -> Adjust delays.
Codeman 09-30-06, 07:12 PM I've got some good news for everyone. Today I added a few custom buttons to a couple of activities, all of which were commands for my TV. Well, even though I only added one to one activity and 3 to another activity, all 4 showed up under both activities. Thinking this was a bug, since this hadn't been the case as of my last change back in June, I called tech support. After speaking to a 2nd tier person, here's what I learned.
1. When adding custom buttons for a display device or a volume control device, those buttons are now automatically added for all activities for which that device is assigned.
2. The first device listed for an activity, however, regardless of whether it is a display or volume control device, does not have it's custom buttons shared.
#1, for my use, is a pain, because it means I'll have custom buttons on activities where I don't want them.
#2 will help some with #1, since an activity that has my TV listed first has 2 entries - tuner, then display. Assignments to tuner are not shared, those for the display are. This may not be news to some, but it finally tells me why we have tuner AND display.
Here's the really good news. Thanks to our calls and complaints, in the near future, we will have complete control over the ordering of custom buttons. Right now, we don't have control over which device's custom buttons are place first for an activity, just the order within that devices custom buttons. With the upcoming change, though, that won't be the case. We will finally be able to put everything in the exact order we want for custom buttons. That means, the additional buttons from #1 above will be capable of being placed at the very end. They'll still be there, but at least we will be able to put them out of the way.
He couldn't tell me when this change will be made, but it will certainly be welcomed by me, IMO, YMMV. I suspect I won't be alone in welcoming this change.
blazeblaze 09-30-06, 07:18 PM Since they are making this change with the custom buttons being shared between activities...it would be nice if they could go ahead and put a HIDE toggle so you could have a particular custom button show up in some activities, but not in others. It's nice to see them keep adding functionality...even though sometimes it screws up all of us that have learned how to work around things.

I don't see it as adding functionality as fixing things that should have been there when the 880 was released.
"we'll give it a 8 option, multi page LCD display but no way to order the buttons easily! We'll make the user have to delete, type in and redorder everything manually!"
I guarantee the "hide" option will not be there. Maybe in 6 months. It took them a year before they removed the "update TV listings" from the 880 browser page because they never implemented that feature. They still advertised the 880 as having built in TV listings until then however.
Dragon Reborn 10-01-06, 09:32 AM When using the 880, I notice that my PVR (SA8300HD) does not respond as quickly to my commands (e.g. fast forward, play) compared to the PVR's remote. There seems to be a split-second delay.
Under Devices, the "inter-key" delay option is defaulted to zero, so I'm not sure why this is happening.
Does anybody know why? :(
hdmi4ever 10-01-06, 10:28 AM Can the Harmony 880 control a TV in ways that the TV's own original remote doesn't allow?
In particular, I have a Samsung HLS-4666W (46-inch DLP HDTV). To change the input source I press the "Source" button on the remote until I arrive at the source I want to watch (cable/DVD/etc.). The problem is that the number of times to press "Source" to arrive at what I want is dependent on which source I'm currently at, so a macro won't work if all it's doing is emulating a sequence of buttons from the original remote. Can the 880 just directly set it to a particular source with one button click regardless of the source I'm currently watching?
I haven't bought it yet, but this is an important feature if I'm going to get the 880 instead of a cheaper remote.

Probably not, though some equipment does sometime support IR codes for which the corresponding remote wasn't designed. You would need to contact Samsung to find that out. If the TV itself does have discrete codes for each source, then the 880 can directly set them.

I would say most likely yes, as I had a Samsung LCD (until it lemoned out) and my Harmony had discrete codes for it. I'd go to the AVS forum supporting your model TV and see if an owner there has any Harmony remote, all share the same database, and see if discrete codes exist for it.

Googling brought up some hits for other Samsung DLP models ... I'll probably find some for my own if I search a little more.
However, since researching other remotes I'm getting the One For All 9910 remote instead. 7/8 as capable* as the 880 at 1/8 the cost. I also have a tiled floor, which makes it more important to get a remote that is cheap to replace if it's dropped and broken. The 880's color LCD screen is really cool though, it's almost worth buying just to see the "wow" expression  on my friends' faces. :D

blazeblaze 10-01-06, 08:14 PM If discrete codes aren't available for use on your device, another option might be the use of shortcuts if your device has those available. Such as being able to hit the SOURCE button, then "3"...to select the third source in the list...for example. I believe that some people have posted about this earlier in the thread, but I don't know if these are available for your particular device.

A Harmony 880 outputs discrete codes for input selection on my HLS6187. I used the code for a HLS6188 in their database.

Even if it doesn't have discretes available, the Harmony will still operate it fine. A Harmony doesn't use old fashioned "macros", it uses "Smart State" which keeps track of what input you are on and knows how many "Source" commands to send to get to the input needed. This is one of it's biggest advantages over other remotes.

Bravo! Great job!
I recently purchased a sony KDL-40V2500, and am having trouble switching between digital and analog signals. Switching to the analog input works fine, however, I can't get the remote to switch to digital. I tried the tuner1 and tuner2 options with no luck. If anyone has a solution to this problem, it would be greatly appreciated. I also had this problem with my 32" XBR LCD, so I'm assuming the remote codes are the same.

The fonts changed for me, as well. Pretty small. My tilt sensor still works fine, however.
TT
Me too, updated today. Tilt not working, fonts changed to small.
WAY too small. I hope the Harmony folks put out a fix for this soon. Not liking this small text and no tilt.

I have simmilar problems with my Sony. The discretes between ant1 and ant2 don't really work. :(
hdmi4ever 10-02-06, 04:52 AM A Harmony 880 outputs discrete codes for input selection on my HLS6187. I used the code for a HLS6188 in their database.I found that the HLS-4666W does have discrete codes.
The introduction of the version 7 software also introduced problems with the tilt sensor. Even the update the other day to 7.0.2 did not fix it. This is confirmed through Logitech level 2 support and they are still working on a fix. Regardless, some people have got their tilt sensors to work by removing the battery for one minute and reinstalling it. I am not one of them.

Small fonts - but tilt sensor still working here.
Robert.
tokerblue 10-02-06, 11:45 AM I tried every single update method and battery removal method with no success. I even updated with the battery removed.
I would blame the tilt sensor not working on the update, but like I said, my 880 wasn't updated for over 6 months, well before the "update" bug.
Now I have to figure out the best way to get a new one... Logitech or Best Buy.
raghu1111 10-02-06, 01:52 PM I hope logitech fixes the small fonts issue.
meanwhile, acceptable work around is to change the 'theme' to 'Large'. Though it not same as default.

I have a JVC D-ILA set. To change inputs you have to either keep cycling through the inputs (and there are a lot!) or bring up a menu and scroll to the input you want. The Harmony downloaded direct input video selection codes for the TV which was great. This is because when I tried to create an activity like watch DVD, if the input got out of sync, then the Harmony would cylcle incorrectly to the wrong input. Now it doesn't care - it just goes to the correct input.
raghu1111 10-02-06, 08:31 PM How do you do that?
On the web, go to "My Remote Preferences", there one of the links is "Select A Theme". You can select "Harmony Large Print" there.

the reason the Harmony has the codes for the JVC is that the first generation models had direct input selection on the remote. So the codes were already in the code bank from that model.
If the Sammy never had direct input codes available at some point they might not be in the bank.

Very good, I discovered that by accident once, never thought to post it! Doh! Good job! Another great source is LyngSat (http://www.lyngsat-logo.com/tv/a.html) but sometimes I still need to edit the icons to look better on the 880.

Having now used the 880 for about 2 weeks and pretty much loving it, I wondered what the clock is used for? I haven't found any function that allows you to set timer based activity activation (i.e. plonk the Harmony in front of your HT setup, and tell it to start an activity at a certain time/date) which by the way, could be quite useful, so what does the clock do and if the time/date is incorrect, what issue does that raise?
Just wondering

Sometimes a clock, is just a clock. ;)
David Kiker 10-03-06, 05:48 PM I have changed my Theme to Large. This spread my activities and devices across more then one page. I was able to reorder my activities to get the most common ones on the first page. Is there any way to reorder your devices (without deleting them and recreating them)?

I guess ;) I know if I want to know the time I would look at my watch first. Having used controls where you could fire off macros at certain times/dates, that would be a cool feature for the Harmony.
Imagine setting it to turn on the TV, switch to the News, turn on some lights etc. just before you get home from a hard day at the office ;)
TSuellentrop 10-03-06, 09:53 PM Is there a way to put a sleep timer on an activity so that in say 30 minutes it acts as if I hit the power button and turns everything off

Great post! No really though, I actually love having the clock on the remote, since there aren't any other clocks in the room. This was one of those smart but simple little features they put on this great piece of CE.

If you're talking about the order in which they are shown when the Device button is pushed, deleting and re-creating them is the only way that you can change them. Logitech Tech support, however, might be able to do it for you. I wouldn't want to delete/re-create them, as that might mess up, or even delete, your activities as well.

I think the clock is great too, very handy in a theatre. It'd be cool if there was an alarm clock on the remote. I use my remote for my theater and in the bedroom (Activies are set up as: "Bedroom: DVD" "Bedroom: TV" etc).
An alarm clock on a remote would be genius, I think!
But, since the last update, not only is the font's too small and my tilt not working, but the 3 letter Day shows up as just the first letter followed by periods, (ie. "M..." "T..." "W...")
Never shows all three letters anymore. Anyone else getting this?
VisionOn 10-05-06, 03:59 PM Sometimes a clock, is just a clock. ;)
in the 880s case it might have been residue from the failure to implement the promised TV guide listings. The remote would have displayed the listings for your current time.
We just got the clock left behind and it was probably never intended as just a helpful clock.
Sdallnct 10-08-06, 02:58 PM I can't get my remote (working fine for nearly a year) to complete the software upgrade and thus cannot update the remote.

Anyone else having problems downloading the update?
Is there a way or work around to set up favorite radio stations like the "Watch TV" activity has with the "Media" hard button? I know I could use the "Next Preset" / "Prev Preset", but I would think being able to upload icons of the stations logo, or even if I make my own "genre icons", would be a nice capability. Any ideas/thoughts?

I didn't realize ther are no favorites in receiver mode. Maybe a feature request to Harmony, it looks like an oversite to me. Great idea though! Same should be to satillite tuners.
OldSenileGuy 10-08-06, 09:21 PM Is there some way to put the remote into a certain activity without going through all the IR commands involved in starting that activity? Sometimes my Harmony will randomly go back to the default "everything off" setting while my entire system is still on. The only way to fix this is to point the remote into a pillow or something and start the activity. Is there some method of getting around this?
Also, what's Logitech's policy on replacing remotes? More and more frequently, I've picked up my Harmony only to see a black screen, then a funky looking screen with green squares, then a screen that says "Testing..." or something like that. It's not even a year old, but I'm not sure if I still have the reciepts and everything for it. Will they help me at all?

Sounds like your battery might be losing contact sometimes. Logitech is very good with replacements if you want to go that way, or you could try fixing it yourself by wedging a bit of folded paper in such a way to hold the battery against the contacts better(rough, I know, but it might help in the short term until your replacement arrives)

I did something similar to this using the create a new activity "listen to satalite radio" to create an activity for cable digital music. I was then able to use the media function for 16 of the favorites. I was then able to upload icons for those channels. It sends a string of channels to the STB like 4-1-2, etc... not sure if that will work for you with radio stations. I think what you are trying to do is create a macro (multiple command string) and assign it to a soft key, which unfortunately, the Harmony cannot do.
JayMan.
Or how about add a TV that you don't own and teach it all appropriate commands from your Amp's remote and set it up so when you're changing channels or favorites it's actually controlling your amp? Will this screw-up the Harmony data base on this TV device? Pick a really obscure TV?? ;)

tokerblue 10-11-06, 11:32 AM A solution to my tilt sensor saga. I returned the remote under Best Buy's EW. A simple swap. Plugged the new 880 in and updated it. Everything works perfectly. So it looks like there was an issue with the old remote.
I did notice that the LCD display was a lot better than my original 880 and my other 880. No washout issues. The charging cradle also charges no matter how I place the remote.

You think I need a replacement battery or replacement remote?
Call tech support. They will probably replace the whole remote.
So I updated my remote about 3 days ago now before upgrading to 7.02 and my tilt sensor died..... So tried updating the remote again last night using 7.02 and my title sensor is now functioning....
During either update I never noticed the small/unreadable text problem.

chinadog 10-12-06, 09:54 AM Just got off the phone with Harmony tech support. My remote was dead. I received a message stating that it was low on battery even though the remote sits in the cradle for 22 hours a day. After talking to them, the guys said there was an issue with some cradles and that the remote doesn't get charged. I got an incident number and need to call back in about 10 minutes when they open and speak to level 2. I've lost some commands over time, not sure if it was related or not. I don't think I've ever scene the battery indicator on the remote show 'full' either.
I'll post after I speak to level 2.

I noticed that my 880 wouldn't charge a week ago. I looked at the contacts and they didn't seem dirty, but one of the contacts on the charging base was partially black. I wiped it several times with a paper towel and the black stuff came off. It has charged consistently since then. If it happens often, I'll try some Cramolin I have (no longer available but replaced by DeOxit).

I am doing this, you need something like this.http://www.smarthome.com/4040.html, to convert 880 IR to rf, then get whatever modules you need. So far I am only using one module to control plasma panel backlighting. By the way I just got an email from Smarthome and they are offering .99 cent shipping until Monday.

nouseforaname 10-13-06, 07:26 PM in my Watch TV activity, the 880 correctly turns on my SA cable box and Tv and picks the right input for the TV (tuner) but it then always wants to put the TV on channel 3.
since the TV is always on 3 it's a step that's not needed. we can't do anything until the remote finishes sending the command and it seems to take a long time just to send "3" .... I would like to delete this step all together but can't seem to do that.

I had the same charging problem as you had (some days it would charge and others it wouldn't). When I called CS they checked the PID and told me I had the newer cradle model (bought in april 2006) and they decided to replace the whole thing.
I received it this week and I'm not sure it's such a good deal. The display on the new one is dimmer than the original, the battery is as loose in it's compartment as my original and some keys seem to be flaky (it almost looks like a refurbished unit even though it came in an original package).
Maybe I should have invested in some contact rejuvenator/cleaner instead.

I am controlling a denon 3803 receiver with my 880, there are discrete codes on the Denon 5803 for setting the volume to -20db and -40db (these codes work on other denon models but their remotes dont have the buttons). I set up a 5803 as a device but it didn't give me those commands. Is there any way I can get them into my 880? I dont have access to a 5803 remote.
Thanks.

I'm not sure its a cleaner issue here. I think it just doesn't sit right in the cradle. When I first got the unit, I had it (and the cradle) on the the armrest between my Berklines. It seemed like it would beep and charge with every slight moment of the chair. Finally I moved it elsewhere. Based on that, I think the problem was potentially always there. I'll let you know what happens when I get the new cradle.

If it's only the one key that has the problem, it might be that the key itself is sticking a bit sometimes.
Try mapping the FFwd function to one of the soft buttons and see if the problem still occurs.

I tried mapping Fast Forward to another button and I still see the problem intermitently.
It seems to occur most often when the 880s display has been off for a minute or 2 and the first action that turns on the display is Fast Forward.
Any other ideas? This seems like a perfect remote otherwise.
Anybode else with an 8300HD seeing similar issues?

Rob,
That was one of the first things he asked, whether or not the connections were corroded. Pretty scary you need to do that so often!

I have a similar problem in that I have to wiggle the control on the cradle to get it to charge. Once I gave the PN to Logitech they said it was in a batch that had this problem and would send me a replacement.
As for a slight delay on getting the remote to send a key sequence after it's been not used for a while. I find if I pick it up and shake it a bit first (so the sensor inside activates the control), there is no delay in sending commands

Hmmmmm 5.2.3 software.
I purchased my H880 in August '06 and the software on the cd was 7.0.x and it didn't work for snit. I downloaded 7.0.1.3 and it worked very well. In early October there was a an update to 7.0.2 which caused some people problems with their fonts (making them smaller).
From what I gather, the 7.x software is also causing some problems with the tilt sensor. It disables the tilt sensor (although pressing any button turns on the backlight). The "fix" is to reset the remote by removing the battery (which does work for me); or, you can remove the battery before doing the update (which also works for me).
Hey, if 5.2.3 works, I don't know if there is any reason to upgrade to the 7.0.2 software.
Steve
Thanks for the idea.
In that case, the only other thing I could suggest is re-learning the troublesome command....try learning in in RAW also.
Arutha_conDoin 10-16-06, 03:23 PM I'm trying to setup the Activities button to Watch a DVD. I need to set the order for the TV to come on first, the Reciever, then the HD-A1 player. I can not find the option to do that with the remote sotware 5.2. I checked under the activities section, but it always list the HD player coming on first. What am I missing?

You have to call support and have them set it up for you.
JustAsk 10-16-06, 08:55 PM I am thinking of buying an 880. Does anyone know if they have the codes for controlling a Lutron GRAFIK Eye?
Thanks,

Do you have a model # for the Eye? My 880 software is asking for it. I can tell you if I can get the model #.

Thanks it is 3104 or GRX-3104. It is a 4 zone controller.

Please let us know how it goes. If I buy an 880, I will need to control an HD-XA1.

JustAsk 10-16-06, 09:36 PM I just got a new 880 and I'm waiting for my new theater room to be completed.
I would like to set up the 880 to be able to control the dimmer functions on the 3 lighting zones in the theater.
Has anyone done this? What type of dimmer switch did you have to use? I have researched the Grafik Eye and others, but don't want to pay that much if I don't have to.
I am using a Grafix Eye 3104, which I am sure you know is a four zone controller. I love it. But, wish I had gotten the 3106. I needed a zone for just the step light and did not have one, because I already had four zones. So, I had to put the step light on the zone with my back sconces.
See the post I made earlier. Junior34 is checking to see if they have the codes for the Grafix eye.

Right now it works just fine on my HD-A1. There are really only a few buttons I use for the HD-A1 player since the buttons were pretty much mapped out for the 880. I like having the Display button handy (to verify what Audio source is running). I pretty much just like to put my movie in and hit play and sit down and watch.
Quick question. Do you guys know if it supports a series 1 tivo? Yup... still have a series 1. I had upgraded the Hard Drive about 2 years ago and seems to work fine so no reason to upgrade yet. :)
VisionOn 10-17-06, 02:15 AM Anyone have Fast Forward issues with the 880 and the 8300HD?
Sometimes when I click Fast Forward on the 880, the 8300HD thinks that it was pressed 3x or 4x.
I have the "If it is responding too much, then try decreasing the setting." set to 0.
And have the "Inter-key Delay" set to 100.
Any other settings work for people?
Do I have a defective 880?
Thanks
those delay settings are in milliseconds so decreasing the setting actually means increasing the number. If it's responding too rapidly you want to increase the delay to make it slower, try 1000.
I think I confused myself there. That's how I remember it from the last time I played with it.
Dishiki 10-17-06, 11:28 AM Not sure if this has been asked before, but this is my problem. I have an 880, A Maxent 50 inch plasma, and an 8300HD DVR. If I have an HD channel on, whether it is 720 or 1080, and then I turn everything off, when I turn it back on, that channel defaults to 480. So I get grey bars at the top and bottom of the tv. I have to change the channel, then change it back to get it to show in the proper resolution.
Is there a fix to this?
coonanan 10-17-06, 03:31 PM Is anybody using Their 880 to control a D* HR20-700. The problem I have is to jump to the beginning or the end of a recording, a button on the original remote must be held down for 3 to 4 seconds, and holding down Play activates slow motion. Is there any way to get the Harmony to mimic this? Any help would be appreciated.

Hmmm I have it controlling my HR20-700, but I haven't tried jumping to the beginning or the end of a show. I'll try to experiment later today and see what I come up with. I usually use it to fast forward through the commercials is all.

Junior,
Thanks I appreciate that. I ordered a RC9800 from Amazon Sunday. But, I may also order an 880 tonight. I can give them each a run for their money this weekend and return the loser on Monday.

Arutha,
Probably not the right place for this. But, how do you like the A1? So, far I am really enjoying the HD-XA1

John Titor 10-17-06, 09:30 PM I'm probably overlooking something but I cant figure it out...
I just picked up the 880, i went to set up "favorite channels" where you can add images & channel #s, but when I goto "watch TV" on the remote, none of the channels show up....so far I added fox and espn (put an image with fox) but they arent there....what am I doing wrong? (I've already updated the remote twice)
pbmpharmacist 10-17-06, 10:08 PM in my Watch TV activity, the 880 correctly turns on my SA cable box and Tv and picks the right input for the TV (tuner) but it then always wants to put the TV on channel 3.
since the TV is always on 3 it's a step that's not needed. we can't do anything until the remote finishes sending the command and it seems to take a long time just to send "3" .... I would like to delete this step all together but can't seem to do that.
This has nothing to do with the harmony. Change the settings for the SA box so that it quits automatically going to that channel when it is turned on. Hit the settings button twice on the SA box remote and you'll find it ther.e

Press the "Media" button.

After updating, in the Watch TV activity, you ARE pressing "Media", right?

Dihiki,
This is not an 880 problem. This is a bug with the new software in the 8300HD. The bug as reported in these forums (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=471859) states:
8300HD Turns On In 480i Mode - If the General Settings/Viewer: Power On is set to an HD channel or Last Channel (if that was HD), the unit will be in 480i mode when you turn it on. If you then tune to an SD channel and back, it will change to the correct HD mode. However, this can be minimized by setting the Power On option to an SD channel. It will then power up in the correct mode and change to HD when you tune to an HD channel. Another workaround is too simply cycle through the zoom modes using the # button.
Now can we create a workaround using the 880 that jumps to a SD channel and then back to a HD one? I really want to know that too!
guitarlp 10-18-06, 02:59 AM I searched through this thread but couldn't find something similar to my problem.
There are a few buttons on this remote that don't always do what I ask it to. For example... pressing the pause button works about 1 out of every 5 times. Same thing with the channel up button.
At first I thought it was a cable box issue but I think it's a problem on the remote. Every time I press a button I can say an image show at the top of the remote showing that it's sending out a signal. But, when I have the problem of the TV not pausing when I press the pause button that little image doesn't show. When it does show, the tv does pause.
So is my remote defective? Any ideas?
tokerblue 10-18-06, 09:52 AM guitarlp, it sounds like may have an issue with repeats and delays. There's a sticky at the top of the forum about setting them.
If it's not the repeats/delays, you can try relearning the command from the original remote.
guitarlp 10-18-06, 03:00 PM Thanks for the information TokerBlue :). I'll give it a shot tonight when I have some time to mess around with the remote again.
I have another question though too.
My TV has 4 inputs (50PH9UK). Input 2 has 2 inputs itself (Input 2A, Input 2B). I'm only using Input 2B. The problem is, when I use the remote to switch from 1 input to Input 2 (or from power off to input 2), the Harmony remote automatically sends a signal to switch to input 2. Good right? No... because if it sends a signal and the input was already on 2B, it will change that to 2A. How can I fix this problem? There must be a setting I missed to not change the input. From the software I told it when I hit the "Watch Cable" button to select input B... but if I power off the remote, press the "watch cable" button, everything turns on and the TV will change to input 2A. If I power off, and repeat the above, the TV will change to Input 2B. If I repeat again, it goes back to 2A. So even though I told it to always choose 2B the TV will alternate between the two.
