Yeah - I know but I really don't want to introduce another gaming system into the house...... they spend far too much time & money on them as it is.

Well I decided to get the Samsung BD-C5500C - was a steal from Costco. Does what I need for now and I'll look at a more upscale player when I change out AVR/PJ in the future.

It decodes both TrueHD & DTS-HD MA, plus it has the Netflix and PC Streaming capability which would be interesting to tryout.

Hopefully play with it tonight...... if does not suit needs it will either go back to Costco's or end up in one of the Kids Bedrooms.

There was a question raised in BIGmouthinDC’s thread about refinishing cabinets. I recently did this in my kitchen and really pleased with the results. I didn’t document the steps with pictures :eek: (AVS Sin)

Basically when we moved into our current house in 2005 the kitchen was your basic builders quality oak with laminate counters….. the oaks was very mismatched and was UGLY! Don’t have a good pre-pictures but this will give you an idea.

When we moved in we immediately changed the counters for granite and all new stainless appliances with intention of upgrading cabinets later. However, then came the housing market crash – I lost about $200k in equity and was not going to drop another $30k into the kitchen so decided to refinish.

Wife wanted an old-country look – cream with brown accents….. so this is what I did.

1) All cabinet doors and draws were removed and all hardware removed.
2) They were then all cleaned with a chemical deglosser
3) All top doors had 2 eyes screwed into the tops, and the bottoms had 2 eyes into the bottoms. This was so I could hang during spraying stage and you would not see the holes left behind.
4) I set up a hanging system in the garage using 2”x10”’s trussed across ladders with 2 hooks spaced along the hang the doors.
5) I set up a spray canopy in front of one of the garage doors so 3 sides, ceiling and floor were covered and just the front was open (to outside). Within canopy was a place to hang 1 door.
6) So process was to hang a door in canopy, spray, move back to staging area..... and repeat
7) My intention was to spray backs and fronts in one step but force of the spray made the door swing so had to create a thingamagiga to steady door and spray one side at a time and return to staging while the side dried.
8) I used 1 coat of Sherwin Williams Latex Adhesion Primer and 2 coats of Sherwin Williams Acrylic latex (custom tint).
9) In the crevices and edges I used a chocolate accent mixed with 1 part Sherwin Williams Acrylic latex and 3 parts Sherwin Williams Latex Faux Finish Glaze.
10) Last step was to spray a coat of clear Minwax Polycrylic.
11) The sides on the cabinets that were exposed were covered with bead board and painted by brush.
12) I added a crown and under cupboard accents with lights behind, also dressed up the island with newel posts and finally added stainless handles.

Think cost me less than $1,500 and that includes buying the spray equipment.

Good catch - I hadn't noticed they switched venue from the Spring location

So mentioned in Cathans thread that was working on our Master bath - doing it in phases. Phase 1 was to change the vaulted ceiling to a tiered soffet and just a paint job. Phase 2 will be to rip out the current jaquizzi bath and tile but that will be later in year if the bonus is good.

Thanks - same reason I did the Master Bedroom the existing unsymmetrical vaulted ceiling made it difficult to do any architectural design (like crown) and it was a wasted heated area.

Well I've not had any issues but I'm no audiophile. Dennis Erskine stated not enough mass. The downside is when I do MKII I'm going to have to redo the stage and create a new sand filled section along the back so can get sub out of the corner.

Oh crap - looks like I have just given Tom an escape clause as any time we mention a tweak/upgrade to out 'finished' HT's he will say we were not finished.

Well, being the PMP that Tom is, and the line of business that he is in (Gvt. Support), I'd have to say that it's not his fault. he's been brainwashed to think that you never really finish annyting, so shoddy work and cut corners are OK...you'll fix them up under a change order in the future. I can see his logic. Here in the world outside the beltway, projects actually get finished and people move on to the next thing.

However, speaking as a PMP, you haven't yet convinced me to CLOSE the previous project.

Dulles Town Center has a Green Turtle. There's a Velocity 5 at Great Falls Plaza (Lowe's Island). Applebee's right off 7 and the and of course O'Faolains. There's also a Glory Days in the shopping center at Rt 7 and Dranesville Rd.

Was there any particular reason you put the soffits behind the drywall instead of on top of it? From a sound isolation perspective it seems like either way would work the same, but it might be easier to frame the soffits if they were outside of the drywall since they aren't part of the building framing at that point.

In hindsight was better methods on doing the soffets.... I pretty much just followed what others had done and also as the soffetts were used to route HVAC and Conduit was easier to have full access.
