View Full Version : Yamaha YHT-370
Grayson73 04-14-06, 11:49 PM I was at Best Buy today and saw that they had the YHT-370. There wasn't a display so I wasn't able to listen to it.
Has anyone heard it? I'd be interested to know if it sounds better than the YHT-360.
Does it come with the same receiver?
Grayson73 04-15-06, 11:16 AM According to the Best Buy website, the mains have 6.5" woofers. The YHT-360 had 3.5" woofers for mains, right?
Also, YHT-370 is silver and YHT-360 was black. I can't tell whether the receiver is different or not or whether the sub is now powered.
Alvarez 04-17-06, 09:59 AM I just bought my mother this system and was very impressed with it (YHT-360 actually). There are NO differences between the old (black-360) model and the new (silver-370) model except price.
Grayson73 04-17-06, 10:04 AM Are you sure? Does the 360 have 6.5" woofers in the mains? The receiver is also the same model?
Grayson73 04-17-06, 11:02 AM Just noticed that Best Buy has the YHT-370 on sale. Now the price difference between the YHT-360 and YHT-370 is around $40. If anyone has insight on the differences, please reply!

Mrkazador 04-17-06, 11:33 AM My 360 does have 6.5" mains. It looks the same just a different modern style.
Alvarez 04-17-06, 01:03 PM the 360 has 3" drivers in the mains I believe. I thought they were larger but apparently not by looking it up on google.
That is the main difference it appears.
Grayson73 04-17-06, 01:47 PM Any other 360 owners want to chime in? Mrkazador says 6.5", but specs say 3.5"
That should have a dramatic difference in sound.
Mrkazador 04-18-06, 12:52 PM Im not sure how one would measure a speaker, i always thought it was from the outer most part.

Alvarez 04-18-06, 01:30 PM next time I am at my moms I will measure the speaker I swore they were 6 inchers. Perhaps they are made to look like 6 inchers but the speaker is actually inset?
According to picture on the Yamaha web site, it looks like the main speakers are 6.5" inches. But when you go into the features pages, it says they are dual 3" woofers.
http://www.yamaha.com/yec/products/HTIB/HTIB_360_1.htm
http://www.yamaha.com/yec/products/HTIB/HTIB_360_2.htm
One of them is obviously wrong.
Best Buy website says the 370 has 6.5" woofer. Other websites I checked show the 360 with 6.5" woofers also. I think the Yamaha specs page is wrong.
Alvarez 04-18-06, 03:17 PM My moms speakers are 6.5" either the spec page is wrong or they changed the later models of 360's?
Grayson73 04-19-06, 11:28 PM Went to Best Buy and confirmed that both are 6.5" woofers. Forgot to compare the receivers.
Grayson73 04-24-06, 05:38 PM So has anyone bought the YHT-270 or YHT-370?
Dave327 04-24-06, 07:05 PM I bought the YHT-360 about a month ago and so far it has been great. My living room it about 15x15 and the sound is excellent. My wife complains that I turn it up to loud.
Dave327 04-24-06, 07:06 PM I bought mine at BB and the price, I thought, was very reasonable.
Grayson73 04-28-06, 05:17 PM Here's a comparison between YHT-360 and YHT-370.
moose1080 05-26-06, 12:36 AM I've had my YHT-370 for about a week now. The receiver and main speakers are very nice, but the passive subwoofer is a bit lacking. I have to max out the sub's levels and set the front, center, and surround speaker levels at just below middle to get the system to sound good. The receiver has a coax sub output for a powered sub input, so I'm starting to look at those now. Maybe the Athena 12"?
HaberstrohBVBC 07-23-06, 11:26 AM No matter what type of media that I play, I can only get 2 indicator lights on the channel indicator (on the HTR-5935) to turn on. Even when I play a 5.1 DD DVD it only says (L)(R) on the indicator. When I bought this from best buy they had all the channels indicated even when playing the tuner. I can not find any settings for this. Could you please tell me what I have to do.
THANKS
P.s just to be clear this is the indicator on the LCD on the receiver.
Dalilama30 11-19-06, 06:06 PM Any further word on the YHT-370? My old analog Sony receiver should probably be replaced and Best Buy has it in the current sale ad with a free LG upconverting DVD player.
brentos24 01-03-07, 12:51 AM I got the YHT-370 for christmas.I noticed it has a passive sub that sucks.I havent even taken it out of the box yet,but I was wondering can I add a powred sub to the system?
yup, you can add one. the included passive sub sounds good, though.
jarellan59 01-13-07, 09:54 PM hi Haber, did you find why you had only 2 indicator. I bought the YHT-370 and I have the same problem
jknuckey 01-15-07, 03:49 AM The crutchfield website mentions that the front speakers don't have keyhole brackets or threaded mounting inserts. Any suggestions for reasonably priced mounting brackets that will work for the front speakers? I did find one type at crutchfield that was $69.99 a pair, which seems a bit steep. Any pointers would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I was looking for speaker stands for those speakers also. I notice the lack of mounting brackets so I'm assuming that any speaker stands I find will have some retro-fitted dodad that will cost 3 times what normal speaker stands would cost. I decided that I'll either do one of 2 things. I'm either going to put 2 small shelves to the left and right of the TV and put the speakers on those or I'm keeping an eye out at the local thrift shops for some old plant stands. This home theater is nickel and diming me to death. I need to get a little creative.

Did you run the test tones? Did all the speakers respond?
You may have the unit in stereo mode instead of surround.
The user manual is pretty good. I'd start at the beginning and go through the basics again.
Good Luck - Jack.

That's what I found out, too. My surround sound wasn't too bad (just a couple cables, new speaker wires, wiremold, mounts, homemade stands on top of the system itself) but it does add up. I would pull the trigger on a killer DLP deal I found, but then I realized I need a stand, a center channel shelf, new component cables, etc. And then my couch would get in the way so I'd have to sell it and get new chairs...
Puts it in a new perspective.
Fragster 01-23-07, 03:46 PM Is the $299 (in-store) deal still on?? I called my local BB electronics department twice and the @#$%^&!'s cut me off on both occasions!! If it wasn't for their specials deals, I'd would have never bothered to buy anything from WorstBuy ever!!

nope. last week only. but pricegrabber it and you'll find similar prices (not as low, but close).
jackbnimble 01-23-07, 04:36 PM I saw it for $299 at BB on Sunday, but saw it for $399 on the web site on Monday. Even at $399 its still a great deal.
BTW - When I saw it for $299 on Sunday, they were out of stock.

I seem to have the same problem with mine. Also I cannot seem to activat pro logic II for movie or music either. The manual is not very clear on this. I picked mine up last Saturday for 299 at BB. The receiver seems nice, but no S-video. Sweet sounding, much better than the Kenwood system it replaces and at half the price!!

What are you using as a source?
Maybe I can try this at home the next couple of days and see what I get.
Davird_Jr 01-24-07, 01:46 PM The source is two channel PCM coming from the optical out on my DISH DVR. I can get pro logic to turn on, but cannot get PLII. The manual makes it sound like PLII is available for music sources by pushing the amp button then the 5 button then the right and left cursors to get to the PLII. This doesn't seem to bbe working for me. I must be doing something wrong.
I bought the system a week ago (YHT-370). Not using the speakers it came with, I am using speakers from my previous system (Onkyo DR-s2.2) on sourround, its powered subwoofer (you should hear the base with yamaha through this, it out of this world). Front and center I am using Athena WS-100 speakers. Love these as well (best buy carries them)
I like the system overall, but could not get some of the digital optical sound working so stuck with digital coax.
jarellan59 01-24-07, 10:12 PM Thanks jackbnimble ... i did run the test tone and all speaker sound goods. It seems that my problems is because I did connect my Directv and DVD equipment to my HT using the RCA cables ( Red & white) instead to use the Digital Audio connectors. What I read is that in order my HT decoder 5.1 sound I need provide the Digial audio signal instead the standards analog audio .
Are you agree ? any comments ?

I would say the composite (RCA) cables are the cables of last resort. You should have an optical out on your DirectTV STB. If you do, then use an optical cable. I know they can be a bit pricey, but I actually found that the there are XBOX optical cables at BB that I picked up for $8, when the optical cables in the home theater section were $30. That will give you your best sound.
Good luck - Jack.
mlciskey 01-31-07, 07:26 AM Does the YHT-370 allow for a delay to be set on the audio inputs to sync audio and video? If so does can different values be set for different inputs?
Thanks,
Mark

2. not that i'm aware of.

Snuba you should give a clinic! You are on top of this machine. :D Thanks for all the help.
mean dean 02-23-07, 09:27 PM I may recommend the YHT-370 to a friend looking for a recommendation. Dumb question on my part; he only wants to run movies in 2.1 (I'm trying to steer him to 3.1 at least), does the 370 allow the surround channels not to be used and if so, will it allow the surround signal to be mixed in the fronts so no sound info is lost. My Marantz AV9000 pre does this, but not for sure if the 370 has that option or not.

the 370 can do it, but, if someone only wants 2 channel sound, they could get get upgraded equipment for around the same price. The full Yammy HTIB is a fantastic value, but, you can buy a comparable receiver and better mains+sub for a similar price. Then if you ever decide to in the future, you would be able to add a center and surrounds.
DarkNessBear 12-27-07, 02:22 PM What type of Subwoofer would you guys suggest getting with this setup?
And the Coaxial Input, what does it look like? And what does the Subwoofer need to have (on the back) in order to use it.
And is it recommended to upgraded the speaker wire?
