View Full Version : Any Philips LCD panels with the Aptura technology in them yet?
http://www.lighting.philips.com/gl_en/global_sites/application/lcd_backlighting/index.php?main=global&parent=6450&id=gl_en_lcd_backlighting&lang=en
philips site has a link to a new technology for their LCD panels that seem to completely eliminate ghosting!
It looks promising but they have no information on when they will have any panels with that technology out or if they even already have them out
anyone know about the Aptura from Philips?
rairhart 05-02-06, 09:30 PM The article suggests that it will be in the next line of LCDs, which we expect to get around June-July.

hmm that doesn't sound too bad, another 1-2 months is bearable.
thats if it is only another 1-2 months.
conan48 05-02-06, 11:14 PM Wow. Sounds very promising after reading the web page. I wonder if any other LCD panels are gonna use this other than Philips and LG.
Here is more info about the releases:

Cutwolf 05-23-06, 09:10 AM Anything in the US market with this yet? The press release says its available?
warlock187 08-17-06, 02:18 PM Both of the following models are available now...
42PF9731D/37
42PF9831D/37
I saw the 42PF9831D/37 model in a local store yesterday, and the picture quality was very impressive.
whats the difference between those 2 models. Does the 9731D not have ambilight? I've mostly seen about the 9831D and it has 4 sided surround ambilight and does look pretty good.
So it has that Aptura backlight technology for sure?
if i can unmount and sell m 42pf9630 plasma and get a 42pf9831d for a good price I would think about it as long I wouldn't have to add too much for the upgrade as it isn't any larger.
also does the ambilight come out of the black frame and onto the white outer frame? or does it come out of the back of the white outer frame anyway. Cus the way it descirbed was that it has its own white panel to reflect the ambilight off in case you dont have a light colored wall or something.
I don't really need that as i have mine mounted on a white piece of furniture with same color back panel made for mounting plasmas.
Blackraven 09-07-06, 06:40 AM These are the Pixel Plus 3 HD units right?
According to a cnet asia review, the 9831 only uses a WXGA panel (1366x768) while the 9731 is the better buy with the full HD panel 1920x1080.
Both though have response times of 3 ms so it is faster than any Bravia right now (unless the 8G units get sold next year).
Problem though is that Pixel Plus does bad for gaming so you may wanna turn it off whenever you plug your console to your set.
so the 9731 is better? is it 1080p? what other differences are there? is it 4 sided ambilight like the 9831? and otherwise just as good or better then the 9831?
is the 9731 with higher res more expensivethen I assume? why the lower model # then for superior model?

The Philips site and other sites I looked at the 9721 as 1366 x 768p. I don't believe that any of Philips latest line is 1080p.
I couldn't find anything on the response time of the Philips. Where exactly did you read that?

P.S.
Btw, the editor notes that during the Philips Ambilight party in Belgium, the 37PF9731 only showed a 1080i image (yet the panel is already 1920x1080 one)
yeah samsung already has flat panel 1080p lcds in 40'' and 46'' so philips needs to make theirs 1080p to compete. and if they make one larger then 42 it might be worth upgrading to eventually from my 9631 ambiligh 42'' plasma because I'd be upgrading in size, reolution and adding 4 sided ambilight over two so would be an eventual worthy upgrade. not sure if I'd want to go to 50 or just 46 from the 42.
the fact that the current 9831 4 sided ambilight flat lcd is only 42'' and not 1080p makes it not worth it as an upgrade and not compete with the samsung flat 1080p lcds.
have old ed plasma in office but want to upgrade to a 1080p flat lcd for gaming and connecting pc. prob go with the 40'' samsung flat 1080p lcd for that as 42 is a little big for that room.
PhilipsPhanatic 01-24-07, 01:36 AM Hey, fellow Philips flat-panel owners
I may have e-mailed some of you the Philips Tips Sheet, which is mostly plasma thread posts but also has some use for LCD owners. I own a Philips 9631 plasma myself.
As some of you may know, I contacted Philips corporate in The Netherlands a while back. I am going to speak to a high-ranking executive (right-hand man to the CEO) later this week on stuff like customer support, marketing, warranties, repairs, etc.
If any of you have any issues you want addressed, post it here or PM or email me.
Thanks, happy HD viewing ! ;)

Something's not right there.
The Philips site lists both the 42PF9831 and 42PF9731 as 1366x768 panels. I think both accept 1920x1080i signals though.
The only major difference I can see is in the case color, and the Ambilight (the 9831 is more 'surround' than the 9731.)
The 9731 is about $1000 cheaper too. Somethings not right about that CNet article.
Philips only just released a 47" 47PFf9441 that has a 1920x1080 panel, but so far all docs say that it only accepts up to a 1080i signal which is also strange since it's being billed as a 1080p set.
[EDIT] Ok. I just realized you're comparing a 37" 9731 to a 42" 9831.
I'm comparing 42" on both.
Not sure why the 9731 would be different between 37" and 42" though.

Just wanted to bump this thread as the sellers are blowing out these 1366x768 models at just over $1000 since (june 2007) the introduction of the new 1080p versions that should be appearing around august 2007.
