View Full Version : Mitsubishi WD-62526 62" LCD
Buddy C 05-10-06, 03:32 PM I went to my local Costco yesterday and they were selling this 62" Mitsubishi 720P LCD for $1999 on the floor. I go there about every other week and this is the first time I've seen this model there. The price includes a stand also. I told my wife we ought to buy one. She said she didn't like the visible screen grid while standing directly in front of it about 3 feet. I said nobody watches TV that close.
Anyone have this model? There's not much on the web about it. I currently have a 5 1/2 year old 65" WS-65857 CRT model. Of course there is no visible screen grid on that one so the LCD might be a hard sell to my better half. I tried to tell her it would look much better in our living room than it does on the Costco sales floor. I don't think she bought that one. Is she right? Should I stay with the old CRT?
It's not on the Costco web site. This sounds like a great price. What does anyone think about this model?

Dave327 05-11-06, 05:40 PM I have the 62527 which is similar to the 62526. I love my set but I sit 10-13 ft from the T.V. How far from the set will you be sitting. That is a good price. I paid that price without the stand.
marshman 05-11-06, 06:43 PM Does this LCD has a dynamic Iris like the sony, if so, I think it will be a good buy, as I to am looking at this set for my Bedroom. But for me, the Visio is still the front runner. :-)
Buddy C 05-11-06, 08:12 PM We would be sitting 10 to 14 feet away. I think I can convince my wife, but if I get it home and the picture is worse than my 5 year old WS-65857 (in her eyes), I'm dead meat and I'll never hear the end of it. She'll rub it in light salt in a wound.
Will HDMI make a noticeable difference in picture quality over component? My Comcast digital cable box has DVI (my current TV is only component).
Would an upgrade from my current Pioneer DV-563A component only DVD player to an upconverting HDMI DVD player make a noticeable improvement?
If I take the plunge, I'd like to have these potential input upgrades in place.
I can't find any iris (dynamic or not) info on this set. Maybe Dave327 can shed some light on this.

cKGunslinger 05-11-06, 11:52 PM I would be interested in this as well. I've been shopping for a sub-$2K TV to replace my 27" CRT for about a week now. I had almost decided on the Sony 50" A10 DLP and was at CostCo to check out the AKAI 50" they had sitting next to it when I saw this giant Mitsubishi. It looked great, was huge, and just at $2000 with a stand.
But yeah, the first thing I noticed was the screen-door effect. I couldn't back up far enough to not see if (the aisle was kinda crowded.) Also, it may just be the model on display, but I noticed something like the opposite of LCD bleed-through (the 4 corners were all much darker than the center.) :(
I really like the size and price, but I'm still tempted to get that AKAI 50" DLP for $1600 with stand. I couldn't see much difference between that and the Sony sitting next to it, other than the $600 price differnce.
ii just got the wd 52528 with stnd for dirt cheap too. Its the 52 inch version. Over all its a great picture. Bright whites and the black levels are pretty good. The only thing is that there is a bit if SDE, but if u are sitting back enough its not that noticable. I just did the basic video calibrations off the avia disc today via hdmi and it was a huge improvment. Just make sure to turn off the edge enhancer, the deep field imager and set it to natural low, and for the price, it can't be beat!
missmatch 07-25-06, 11:56 PM I got the WD62526. can't believe that these new TV still don't have VGA inputs for me the connect my laptop. It made a big difference on my projector vs. a S-video connection. I might return it just for this one reason. Anyoneknow of any TV's that usually have a VGA connection?
I also spotted the Mitsubishi WD62526 at a local Costco. The first time I was convinced I would buy it, but then they sold out. The second time they had it in stock the picture quality was much lower than I remembered, but that has to be a poor signal feed since they split it 20-30 times in the store. The price is $1900 with stand.
Any updates to this thread, BuddyC? What did you decide? I'm looking for more information/experience about this set from anyone so I can make an informed decision. It would replace my 6 year old Hitachi 61HDX98B. My viewing distance is 12-14ft.
Thanks,
Ken
HHGregg has it for $1900 (without stand)..........they are having a 20% off sale this Wed too (Just got a sale flyer in the mail)
bajabill 01-19-07, 12:53 PM I just got the WD 62530 from costco, price is lower than it was 4 months ago obviously, and now the 2007 model is offered. One night, and I am happy. At the current price with stand, I did not do much comparison, I just assumed the Mits was a good unit and for roughly 1400 for the TV itself (stand was included in the higher purchase price - 1600) I cant go too wrong. Anything I find missing in this unit will be correcten when I buy my next HD tv, because all of our SD sets will be replaced in the next few years.
