HDDVD rules 05-22-06, 11:30 AM I am 23, but there is a kid movie that I would love to see remastered in hd. Hook. I don't who made it. If it is Sony, that is going to be long wait.
Adam Tyner 05-22-06, 11:38 AM War Of The Worlds (2005) that is universal right?Paramount.
Hook. I don't who made it. If it is Sony, that is going to be long wait.Yup, it was a TriStar release, so that'd put it in Sony's court.
HDDVD rules 05-22-06, 11:44 AM Do you think somebody is going to figure out a illegal way to copy a blueray movie to a blank hd dvd disk in the future. I am not for that. It only seems somebody always does something illegal with these technologies.

I thought Batman Begins and Matrix were coming? Right now I have much better movies on DVHS, yes it is a dying format, or some say it is dead, but the collection of films on D-Theater is going to be superior to HD-DVD for some time to come at this rate.
I would love to see/hear what top gun would be like, great film.
Also the blade trilogy
HDDVD rules 05-22-06, 01:43 PM How about the Lethal Weapan value pack.

rolltide1017 05-22-06, 02:23 PM When is Paramount going to release anything and when are we going to see day and date releases (will V for Vendetta come out along side the DVD)? I haven't bought an HD-DVD player yet but I plan too before the end of the year and would love to see more dual format releases like Rumor Has It. I would buy the dual format release instead of the standalone DVDs right now even without a player. I just bought The Producers(musical) on DVD but would have gladly waited if an HD-DVD version was on the way. I hope MI:III gets a day and date release later this year. I thought King Kong was going to be one of the first titles. I would think that they would release some big titles to try and get the attention of the average consumer. I just don't think Rumor Has It is going to sell players but, LOTR might. I'm sold on HD-DVD (going to get either the 360 add-on or one of the Toshibas) and the only way they loose me as a costumer is if Universal begins to support Blu-Ray but, I'd still love to see more big titles released.
efranzen 05-22-06, 02:29 PM Band of Brothers
Seven
Lord of the Rings Trilogy
Star Wars
Gladiator
Scarface
American History X
Saving Private Ryan
Blade 1 and 2
SurfingMatt27 05-22-06, 02:38 PM Do you think somebody is going to figure out a illegal way to copy a blueray movie to a blank hd dvd disk in the future. I am not for that. It only seems somebody always does something illegal with these technologies.
You simply can't, because Blu-ray is not a DVD..it's disc size and structure are different.
Blu-ray is a totally new different format, While HD-DVD is more related to DVD.
So the simple answer is no.
SurfingMatt27 05-22-06, 02:48 PM Here are my movies i look foward to seeing in HD

Ja Phule 05-22-06, 04:22 PM You can put a blu-ray managed copy on hd dvd r and vice verse. :)
Assuming there's enough capacity both ways.
efranzen 05-22-06, 04:39 PM You simply can't, because Blu-ray is not a DVD..it's disc size and structure are different.
Blu-ray is a totally new different format, While HD-DVD is more related to DVD.
So the simple answer is no.
The physical disc size of Blu-Ray is different?
Paulidan 05-22-06, 05:41 PM confining this list solely to what could be released on HD DVD (no offense as there are PLENTY of titlesI would want from now Bd exclusive studios)

Ja Phule 05-22-06, 06:15 PM Well, there's the European version of T2 from Studio Canal... assuming it'll play on the Toshiba.
FF2Skip 05-22-06, 06:30 PM SurfingMatt, your signature "BLU-RAY: THE ONE AND ONLY TRUE HIGH DEFINITION FORMAT OF CHOICE," is funny. If BR is truly the one and only true HD format, how can there be a choice? :D
Matrix
Jurassic
Twister
Saving Private Ryan
Top Gun
Titanic
Gone in 60 Seconds(the Nic Cage one)
Armageddon
Master and Commander
And don't laugh, but Fast and the Furious! :D I'm 40 this year, but despite the film's obvious technical errors, I enjoy the fast-moving, entertainment-only film that mainstreamed import modding. Granted, I can't stand "riced-out" cars, foreign or domestic, but I would never have been interested in buying my S2000 had I not seen that film.
Ja Phule 05-22-06, 07:12 PM I'm surprised to see Fast and Furious 3 is getting some positive press. It might be the sleeper hit of the summer.
Well, this is my 'starter' list :p:
Apocalypse Now (not Redux)
Braveheart
Crimson Tide
Gladiator
The Hunt for Red October
The Italian Job
la Femme Nikita (not Point of No Return)
The Magnificent Seven
Man on Fire
Master and Commander
Open Range
Platoon
Road to Perdition
Rob Roy
Spartacus (Kirk Douglas version)
Spy Game
To Live and Die in LA
The Usual Suspects
Rams662566 05-22-06, 09:29 PM Anyone know what Lost in Translation would come out for? HD-DVD or Blue-Ray. I'm planning on getting the Xbox 360 HD-DVD add on if its not too much and would love to see Scarlett Johansson in HD goodness. :D
Other movies I would like to see in on HD-DVD.
Top Gun
Pulp Fiction
Resivoir Dogs
Kill Bill vol 1&2
Sin City
Braveheart
Fight Club
and many many more....
ayrton911 05-22-06, 10:04 PM Old movies can be made into HD?

STAR TREK THE MOTION PICTURE
STAR TREK FIRST CONTACT
STAR TREK VOYAGE HOME
and many many other great movies.
WirelessGuru 05-23-06, 02:09 PM CLOSE ENCOUTERS OF THE THIRD KIND
I've seen Close Encounters of the Third Kind in HD, Unfortunately, that film is too old to look good in HD. The film imperfections are enhanced if anything.
Maxflier 05-23-06, 04:01 PM I'd love to see Equilibrium also.
I know it is being released overseas, but hopefully it gets released here also.
FF2Skip 05-23-06, 04:15 PM I'm surprised to see Fast and Furious 3 is getting some positive press. It might be the sleeper hit of the summer.
Off topic, but I find that hard to believe. :D I've seen the previews and it looks kinda corny.
BigMikeATL 05-23-06, 08:50 PM I could have a list a mile long, but here are the titles I'm *DYING* to see on HD DVD... both because I like the movies and they'd look great if they transfers are good.
Back To The Future 1/2
The Matrix Trilogy (coming soon!)
Lord of the Rings Trilogy
Minority Report
2001: A Space Odyssey (might be too old to benefit from HD)
Stargate
Here are some others that will, at least initially, only be on Blu-ray:
Star Wars (Episodes 3, 4, and 5)
Fight Club
Finding Nemo
X-Men 1/2
And a few that will be Blu-ray only until hell freezes over:
Men in Black
Ronin
Starship Troopers
Hellboy
Arutha_conDoin 05-24-06, 02:28 AM Gattaca and the Red Violin since those are two of my favorite movies. Also The Count of Monte Cristo.
Arutha_conDoin 05-24-06, 02:28 AM I'd love to see Equilibrium also.
I know it is being released overseas, but hopefully it gets released here also.
Ohh nice one there. I'd love to add that one too.
williamtassone 05-24-06, 02:54 AM One Eyed Jacks
bitemymac 05-24-06, 03:28 AM Tombstone (this would be a must have in HD or SD)
Add "The Messenger". The SD DVD is excellent. The HD HBO broacast was superb.
What was I thinking? It's Columbia Tristar! What the heck, I still want this one in Hi Res.
Jaws.
The Shining.
Aliens.
Blade 1 & 2.
Dawn of the dead orignal & remake.
Indiana Jones trilogy.
Xmen 2.
These are video and not movies, but I'd be willing to buy some HD-DVD versions of the demo D-VHS stuff that came out early on like "Smart Travels with Rudy Maxa" and the one about Japan that I think Pioneer produced. Heck, Id even like to see a copy of a non compressed HD (Super Bowl?) sporting event. I don't think many of us have ever seen this. I'd also like to see many more concert events and Music Video released.
Maxflier 05-27-06, 02:58 PM Since Universal refuses to release Timecop on DVD in Widescreen (in R1), i hope they eventually release it on HD DVD.
BigMikeATL 05-27-06, 03:02 PM Since Universal refuses to release Timecop on DVD in Widescreen (in R1), i hope they eventually release it on HD DVD.
I'm sure they will. I recorded a HD Widescreen broadcast from HDNet Movies a couple months ago and it looks stunning. The HD disc will only look better.
ChrisW6ATV 05-27-06, 04:22 PM Animal House
Used Cars
The Blues Brothers
The Towering Inferno
North by Northwest
WarGames
The Andromeda Strain
Die Hard (all three)
Speed
Ghostbusters (both)
And a bunch of the ones others have mentioned...
Old movies can be made into HD?
If so, I'd like to see Grand Prix on HD DVD or Blu-ray.
ALL theater movies since at least 1930, except low-budget ones, are "higher-than-high-definition" on film. The only "catch", ever, is how high of quality the original copies exist in.
Grand Prix (in its original 2.55:1 or so format) would be excellent on HD-DVD.
TheRatPatrol 05-27-06, 04:30 PM I'd like to see ALL movies in HD. :D
Paulidan 05-27-06, 04:56 PM The New World
Quest For Fire
The Sweet Hereafter
The Mosquito Coast
Bend Of The River
The Bad & The Beautfiul
Peyton Place
Master and Commander
Is this a Universal title ??
Master & Commander is a 20th Century Fox title, and is rumored to be among their first 20 releases for the Blu-Ray Disc format. It's a title I anxiously await.
nataraj 05-28-06, 02:00 PM I'd like to see ALL movies in HD. :D
I second that ... and since I don't watch movies more than once - I don't really care about movies I've already seen. The rest I want in HD.
I second that ... and since I don't watch movies more than once - I don't really care about movies I've already seen. The rest I want in HD.
And to think, I thought this was a throwback to the days when you couldn't see the movie again.
I find many movies watchable again and again, especially musicals and animation.
(Some ,of course, sorry for viewing once.)
WIZARD8888 06-03-06, 05:02 PM Besides the obvious (Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, etc.)
Hallowe'en
Psycho (1960)
Jaws
Alien
Aliens
The Shining
Dawn of the Dead (1978)
The Thing (1982)
jones07 06-03-06, 07:19 PM Barb Wire (1996)
Battlefield Earth: A Saga of the Year 3000 (2000)
Hardware (1990)
Robert Clark 06-03-06, 08:10 PM Barb Wire (1996)

mikethewxguy 06-03-06, 08:15 PM Goodburger :)
Seriously....
The Fifth Element :(
Shrek
Star Wars: Any/All of them
jones07 06-03-06, 08:33 PM
;)
I know I know, no accounting for taste.:o
Amiable-Akuma 06-03-06, 08:42 PM If I could pick any movies in the world, my top ten would be as follows:
1. The Rock
2. King Kong (2005)
3. Batman Begins
4. Casino
5. The Shawshank Redemption
6. Cliffhanger
7. Eraser
8. Primal Fear
And my last two, since I think it'll probably be a while:
9. Any solid anime film or series (especially Ninja Scroll or Trigun)
10. Any solid Asian action movie (especially Ong-Bak or Hard-Boiled)
Now that I look at it, it's amazing that a significant amount of them have already been confirmed to be coming to HD DVD soon. Yay!
Also, high on my list would be Indecent Proposal (since as a notorious action-junkee, it happens to be the only romance-related film I really like - and one of the only films in general that I don't already have on SD DVD). Anything from the Terminator trilogy would be nice too (I understand only #3 has a shot at coming to HD DVD any time soon though, right?).
EDIT: Hmm, well you could also swap Saving Private Ryan, Gladiator, or Braveheart for any of the above also...
TimothyB 06-04-06, 10:53 PM Anything I'd want to buy on DVD right now but can't because I know it will eventually be an HD release
efranzen 06-04-06, 11:30 PM The IMAX film Beavers. That what my favorite thing to use for demo material prior to HD DVD.
ryoohki 06-04-06, 11:43 PM Definitly BASEketball ! LOL i think it my most viewed dvd ever.. and the transfert is horrible... seriously , it can't be worst than that..
bdizzle 06-06-06, 01:03 PM Matrix Trilogy and Bourne Identity
Paulidan 06-06-06, 01:31 PM American Werewolf In London
Adventures of Superman (color episodes)
The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover
V For Vendetta
Matrix
Natural Born Killers
Pulp Fiction
Fifth Element
Blade Runner
Big Lebowski
Run Lola Run
Any film directed by Theo Angelopoulos
And thousands more :D
Tom Bley 06-06-06, 08:17 PM Big Momma's House 2!
Bill C. 06-07-06, 10:55 AM Hmmm...my personal would-buy-on-sight list probably goes like this:
the Lord of the Rings trilogy
Die Hard
Hero
Spartacus
Ben-Hur
Wonderful Days
The Fifth Element
the entire Ridley Scott film library (honestly I only really want Blade Runner, Kingdom of Heaven, and Gladiator--but if it means we have to get Thelma and Louise and White Squall along with them, do it)
Starship Troopers
Titanic
lduguay 06-07-06, 04:15 PM A few vivid titles... :)
Tango22 06-09-06, 01:50 PM Aside from all of the blockbusters that we would all love to see on HD-DVD, you know what I would love to own in HD? Those BMWFilms starring Clive Owen. Am I the only one that loves those? What a great set of short films! I remember the early days of HDNET when they would play those constantly...boy, I wish I had my HD DVR then!
Hmm...I may have to fire that DVD up prior to our Movie Night instead of Nothing But Trailers. To bad the BMWfilms DVD isn't anamorphic!
bimmerboy750 06-09-06, 03:27 PM Without regard for format and trying not to repeat (apologies up front):

Flash Gordon was a Universal reslease. Are you sure Sony owns it? I have it on SD DVD and it is Universal released by Image.
I read somewhere, Digital Bits I think, that Army of Darkness is coming to HDDVD.
I agree with many of the other suggestions, LOTR Trilogy, Matrix Trilogy, Star Trek, Star Wars, etc.
How about some titles that were never released anamorphically?
The Abyss
Cut Throat Island
True Lies
Flash Gordon (assuming Sony doesn't own it)
Time Cop
The Shadow (SDDVD is full screen)(I have Laserdisc WS)
A Night at the Roxbury
Wing Commander
Howard the Duck (never released on SDDVD)(I have Laserdisc WS)
Escape From LA
I'm sure I'll get ripped for some of these, but my son and I watch these movies and love them all! :D

Content is KING. It is written.
That out of the way, another title I'd love to see that never even made it to SD DVD:
"The Night of the Generals"
So, does anyone have a link to post on the upcoming HD-DVD titles and release dates?
Did everyone stop dreaming? No more wish lists?
Blade Runner.
Give me Blade Runner and I'll be watching it so many times I probably won't have time to post for a few days. In fact, the release date will be a national holiday in my house to be celebrated with reverence for years to come. A shrine will be erected near my DVD rack upon which offerings of food and lit candles will be a daily ritual. :D

my top few are
King Kong 2005
Sin City
Fantastic four
Moulin Rouge
The Island
Into the blue (this is a must just for Jessica alba in those Underwater scenes :D
This is what sucks about hd-dvd/Blueray, movies only available on one format right now
You know, I often wonder just how the studios go about selecting titles for HDDVD transfer? Anybody know?
Bill C. 09-13-06, 10:58 AM I seriously wonder sometimes if it's a dartboard-type scenario, combined with some guy poring over ticket gross figures and green-marker-highlighting things...
Arutha_conDoin 09-13-06, 11:36 AM I would like to see Willow in HD. I think that movie would look pretty dang nice. Top Gun would be a good one too especially with TrueHD.
HPforMe 09-13-06, 01:01 PM When are some good titles coming out on HD-DVD? I am just sitting back and waiting because there is nothing drawing me to HD-DVD yet as far as media. I thought Batman Begins and Matrix were coming? Right now I have much better movies on DVHS, yes it is a dying format, or some say it is dead, but the collection of films on D-Theater is going to be superior to HD-DVD for some time to come at this rate.
No it won't. I believe there are approx. 92 or so D movies. For the length of time that format has been out it is paltry. On the other hand, HD-DVD has been out for approx. 5 months and already there are over half that amount available and by the end of the year there will likely be well over the 90 or so figure for D.
I'd love to see movies by my top 3 favorite directors. I don't know what studios distributed all of them, so I don't know what I can reasonably expect. These guys all make movies with distinctive visual style ... I can't wait to see them in crystal clear HD.
Wes Anderson:
Bottle Rocket
Rushmore
The Royal Tenenbaums
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
Wim Wenders:
Wings of Desire
Faraway, So Close!
Until the End of the World (never released on DVD, at least in the U.S. - probably my favorite movie of all time.)
Paris, Texas
Buena Vista Social Club
David Lynch:
Eraserhead
Elephant Man (coming to HD DVD!)
Dune (coming to HD DVD!)
Blue Velvet
Twin Peaks - the TV show, mostly
Lost Highway
Wild at Heart
Mulholland Drive
These guys all make movies with distinctive visual style ... I can't wait to see them in crystal clear HD.
Now, there's a thought: opulent, decadent, sumptuous eye candy from years gone by. You know, movies bursting with color and cinematic grandeur.
Moulin Rouge (Kidman) certainly comes to mind. What say the rest of you?
I want (on either format):
Gladiator
Reservoir Dogs
Pulp Fiction
The Green Mile
The Shawshank Redemption
Drugstore Cowboys
Kill Bill I/II
A Time to Kill
Lawrence of Arabia
Fantasia
Dances with Wolves
Shaka Zulu mini-series
Forest Gump
The Golden Child
Indiana Jones series
Record of Lodoss War
Big Fish

tm22721 10-13-06, 12:39 PM This entire thread is Deja Vu circa 1998 just after DVD came out.
New vistas.
You know, now that I have seen what Warner can do with older technicolor restorations (ergo, The Searchers) I may just have to broaden my horizons. I'm a thinkin'.
jamieuk23 10-18-06, 08:21 AM How about you?

Big trouble in little china
star wars
lord of the rings

The Twilight Samurai
Chunking Express
Green Chair
A Tale of Two Sisters
Tokyo Drifter
Sword of Doom
Just to name a few lol
This entire thread is Deja Vu circa 1998 just after DVD came out.
History does have a way of repeating itself. Imagine, in a few more years we could be doing it all over again. Just imagine the cutting edge imaging technology that awaits in the digital domain. Not to mention grainless and artifact free originals.
LiftedTacoma 11-22-06, 07:10 PM i wish Fight Club would come out for HD-DVD, too bad its a Fox film
Hmm..

Lock stock, snatch, mean machine (unedited version), revolver (not in US yet even)
Arutha_conDoin 11-22-06, 10:36 PM Green Street Hooligans. I loved that movie. I'm tempted just to buy it on DVD and then redip for it on HD DVD if it comes out down the road.
Braveheart, like many others.
But mostly the thin red line and the new world.
T2, The Thing.
Paulidan 11-23-06, 08:50 AM The New World has to make it out some day...you would think.
The producer was talking about an extended cut for HD DVD in the fall, but New Line decided to hold back everything till next year. I hope they get this one out soon. I'm almost ready to buy the sd version.
I would love to see Badlands make it out soon too. Even the sd is in desperate need of a remaster.
Nightmare Before Christmas would be my #1 choice.
talbain 11-23-06, 01:16 PM Braveheart, like many others.
But mostly the thin red line and the new world.
T2, The Thing.
the thing is out...
for me it would be the indiana jones movies and braveheart. if we're extending the list to non hd dvd supporters, the alien movies would be there as well
speeeedy 11-23-06, 03:34 PM Saving Private Ryan and Open Range! I am begging for those two DVDs to come out. I have always used them as my reference DVDs. I would pay 50$ a piece to watch those two great films on HD-DVD.
eapleitez 11-23-06, 04:40 PM How about The Bear or The Mission, for some awesome cinematography?
Arutha_conDoin 11-23-06, 10:56 PM The Game and The Princess Bride. Looking at IMDB.com looks Princess Bride is heading to BR eventually :(
Love to the fifth element on HD-DVD.
The SB DVD was amazing, if they gave it a good treatment you'd really get that 3D pop.
I've heard the blu-ray was not so good.
Star Wars trilogy
LOTR trilogly in its full extended glory
maverick0716 12-01-06, 01:32 PM I don't know if this has been mentioned, but how about The Matador? That was the most surprising DVD I've ever seen in terms of picture and sound quality.......and the beaufitul cinematography would look fabulous on HD DVD! I forget what production company it is though.
the crane 12-01-06, 10:21 PM I would love to see The Good, The Bad and the Ugly. Not sure who owns the rights, but it was fantastic looking on HD NET. Great movie...

jhb-snowboard 12-03-06, 08:45 AM MAXHEADROOM TV SERIES!!! Actually I'd be glad to see it in any format
HPforMe 12-03-06, 10:27 AM The Mission. Just saw it last week with my A1 and HP 1080p DLP 65" and holy smokes. Beautiful scenes in the jungle. And the sound was magnificent. I can imagine what an HD DVD transfer would look like.
Arutha_conDoin 12-03-06, 10:51 AM The Assignment with Aidan Quinn

My wish list (some of which I KNOW will show on hd as they're Universal :D ):
Shawshank
American Pie I & II
The Patriot
Braveheart
LOTR
Gladiator (FWIW, the older SD disc - with the Ridley Scott sig on the front, I.E. the better one :D, looks effin' great upscaled on the A2, can't imagine a true hd version though)
The Outlaw Josey Wales (another fantastic one on SD - should make a sweet HD)
My Cousin Vinny
Cheech and Chongs Nice Dreams :p
Carlitos Way
Master And Commander
I Know What You Did Last Summer (talk about a flick having eye candy, pop and 3D....and then there would be the PQ :D ;) )

tdot2k6 01-27-07, 03:15 AM i may have missed this ( first time poster. yah! ) but is everyone forgetting the overly under appreciated "the fountain"? that movie had some of the best cinematography over the past few years. the end had me in tears. pure beauty. by the way this should come to hd all thanks to the total crap, total hd via WB right?
Gundrosen 01-27-07, 07:18 AM Star Wars(all of them)
Lord of the Rings(all of them)
Matrix(especially the first, but a trilogy set would be nice)

Indeed a good visual movie. Hopefully when I get it on HD I be able to understand it better. I was hoping for more of a Sci Fi movie though.
The movie I want in HD now is Pan's Labyrinth. I thought that movie was excellent.
animes2k 01-29-07, 03:15 AM Nobody has mentioned Baraka?
This is a movie I once owned on VHS, LaserDisc AND DVD. I'm not sure where my DVD has gotten off to, but if there was ever a movie deserving of HD treatment... originally shot in 70mm, this movie NEEDS to be an HD-DVD :)
I actually think that, if the format wars don't settle out before Baraka is released, it will guide my player purchase :)

Adam Tyner 01-29-07, 11:02 AM Fingers crossed that Paramount's special edition DVD re-release of Hitchcock's To Catch a Thief in May will make it to HD DVD and Blu-ray.

animes2k 01-29-07, 11:49 PM Nobody has mentioned Baraka?
This is a movie I once owned on VHS, LaserDisc AND DVD. I'm not sure where my DVD has gotten off to, but if there was ever a movie deserving of HD treatment... originally shot in 70mm, this movie NEEDS to be an HD-DVD :)
I actually think that, if the format wars don't settle out before Baraka is released, it will guide my player purchase :)
I was only partially right - the movie was shot in 65mm Todd-AO format - apparently a
"high definition" film format - then transferred to 70mm to accommodate sound tracks. So I think it would be an IDEAL candidate for HD treatment.
as i sit here and watch my non-anamorphic WS version of this movie, i realize how much i want it in HD-DVD
The Hunt for Red October
with a Dolby TrueHD track please ;)
JaylisJayP 01-30-07, 09:48 AM Top Gun.
John Chu 01-30-07, 12:55 PM Great list so far.
As for me...and from Universal..
I would like to see:
"Far and Away" [the Ron Howard Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman movie]
This film was shot on Super 70mm---it should look glorious on video..but the current DVD is from the LaserDisc master in my opinion. It's my guilty pleasure.
I was also like to see Walter Hill's "Streets of Fire" on HD-DVD.
Stoney Jackson 01-31-07, 05:50 PM I second "Mallrats"
As for the other Kevin Smith movies, who owns them overseas? Dogma was released on DVD by Sony in the US, and the rest are released by Miramax, so we won't see US HDDVDs of them...
Onkyo10 01-31-07, 06:01 PM have you seen the turtles ninja trailer from PS3 site? it's WB right? so why it 's on Sony site...the trailer looks treamendous!
MauneyM 01-31-07, 06:07 PM Most of mine have been mentioned but the top ones that aren't obvious would be:
The Mission (have it on LD - the soundtrack is beyond excellent)
Dead Calm (This one needs a big screen)
The Lost Boys
Heavy Metal (the original - not the lame remake)
Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid
Barry Lyndon (soundtrack & cinematography are typically Kubrick - excellent)
Blade Runner
Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (soundtrack in lossless should be pretty good)
How about you?
Here's my wish list. Releases I'd love to see upgraded.

Anna and the King
Once Upon a Time in the West

cnickersonjr 05-15-07, 09:24 PM Friday (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0113118/) To me, one of the funniest movies of all time.
"Hi Ms. Parker" :D
"Remember it ,Write it down, take a picture, I don't give a ****"
"The f*** you stealing boxes for? What you trying to build, a clubhouse?"
"No sugar? Damn. Y'all ain't never got two things that match. Either y'all got Kool-aid, no sugar. Peanut butter, no jelly. Ham, no burger. Daaamn"
cnickersonjr 05-15-07, 09:41 PM War Of The Worlds (2005) that is universal right?
This would be good!
cnickersonjr 05-15-07, 09:46 PM I think Chris Tucker is so funny.
Rush Hour (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120812/) , Rush Hour 2 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0266915/) , Rush Hour 3 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0293564/)
FatiusJeebs 05-15-07, 09:53 PM Well..here it goes.....

lrstevens421 05-15-07, 09:54 PM Once Gladiator comes out, I'll be all smiles.
Once Gladiator comes out, I'll be all smiles.
Won't we all. It's been announced but no release date has been posted that I know of.
My tastes are kinda strange, but here it goes:
Legend of 1900
Red Violin
Emperor's New Clothes
Dog of Flanders
Cinema Paradiso
All the Star Trek movies
Just a little bit OT. What's driving me crazy is Columbia House has yet to offer either HDDVDs or BDs. Come on now. Netflix has been renting for a year now. Blockbuster has followed suit. What's with these guys?

With that said my list begins and ends with
Se7en
Tombstone (this would be a must have in HD or SD)
Tombstone is definately a must have on HD DVD. The perfect scenery and killer audio, this one must have TrueHD track though. :D
delrmx01 07-06-07, 02:00 PM The Score..Edward Norton and Robert Deniro.
wormraper 07-06-07, 02:05 PM Since we're talking about movies we'd like, I go for Cutthroat Island :D
Ryan Peddle 07-06-07, 02:19 PM Gladiator is a must make must have for me. Loved the movie very much, the soundtrack is top notch.
I'd like to see this on a double disc. With PIP commentary and bluescreen for many of the battle scenes. Dolby TrueHD. (Homer like salivating).
The other given to me is Lord of the Rings. And it would have to be the extended version. Again Lossless audio would be a must and some kick ass special HD Features.
Shrek would be another release I would like to see, maybe with a PIP of the cast recording their lines or something.
There are very few titles that I am really interested in replacing in HD though. Of the ones I have, the following would be rebuys for me:
Gladiator
LOT Trilogy
Shrek
The Incredibles
Star Wars Prequels (especially #3)
Seven
Jurassic Park (maybe)
War of the Worlds
The Matrix
Ryan Peddle 07-06-07, 02:21 PM as i sit here and watch my non-anamorphic WS version of this movie, i realize how much i want it in HD-DVD
The Hunt for Red October
with a Dolby TrueHD track please ;)
This is another one that I am looking forward too.
eghill1125 07-06-07, 02:29 PM These are the 2 that I am willing to wait on. BD for now....HDDVD somewhere sometime?
Toy Story
The Rock
Videodrome
The Man Who Would Be King
Kill Bill 1 & 2
Demolition Man
O Brother, Where Art Thou?
nabwong 07-06-07, 05:35 PM Toy Story 1 & 2 please.
MichaelHDDVD 07-06-07, 05:40 PM War Of The Worlds (2005) that is universal right?
Dreamworks, so both formats
dvdmonster 07-06-07, 05:42 PM Videodrome
The Man Who Would Be King
Demolition Man
Great choices .. The Man Who Would Be King would be amazing in HD... but Demolition Man? come on..
I want to see the "Class of 1999" cyborgs in FULL HD glory.. hell yeah! :D
jgamikos 07-06-07, 06:06 PM Have to agree on Gladiator.
There are several Michael Mann movies I would love to see on HD DVD.
I would love to see Collateral on HD. I believe it was filmed in Digital and would be similar to Miami Vice in terms of PQ right? Even though almost all of it was shot at night I think it would look great.
I would also love to see The Insider on HD. Great story, haunting music and great performances by Pacino and Crowe.
Ali, which is listed as a possibility of coming out in France on HD DVD.
Last of the Mohicans would look and sound awesome.
Finally, HEAT. "Mann" would that look and sound great on HD DVD. Can you imagine the shootout after coming out of the bank in downtown LA? WOW!
What do you guys think?
Lee Stewart 07-06-07, 06:11 PM The Wild Bunch . . .
That's all that needs to be said
evolver 07-06-07, 09:08 PM I would love to see Collateral on HD. I believe it was filmed in Digital and would be similar to Miami Vice in terms of PQ right? Even though almost all of it was shot at night I think it would look great.
Collateral and Miami Vice were both shot with a mixture of (primarily) the Thomson VIPER Filmstream, the Sony F900 CineAlta and (believe it or not) 35mm film cameras (for slowmotion and probably any shot that wasn't purely 24fps). I don't think it would be fair to compare the two precisely because Collateral has so many exterior night scenes. Also, no doubt it was a learning experience for all involved. The VIPER was also used to shoot Zodiac, which, aside from a few shots, looks amazing.
The Viper, another three-sensor camera design, captures a 1920 × 1080 pixel image. In addition to uncompressed RGB output, the Viper is also capable of outputting RAW sensor data, which allows for more control in post-production.
The camera has a unique feature known as Dynamic Pixel Management, which allows the camera to change its aspect ratio by vertically ganging pixels. This allows the cinematographer to shoot at different aspect ratios without cropping the image (thus losing resolution) or using anamorphic lenses.
[...]The first major motion picture shot using the Viper was Michael Mann's Collateral, which was followed by Miami Vice, which was shot with the Viper to HDCAM. The first feature film to be shot entirely in the Viper's uncompressed digital data format is Zodiac.
