!

I've heard many a bad thing over wireless rear speakers... :D

Buuut I'm in an apartment and it's just so much more convenient then routing wires around walls. That and I've read many favorable reviews for the previous incarnations of Sony's wireless HTIBs

Thats all besides the point however. Since this is a fairly new product I can't seem to find any reviews on the unit and was wondering if anyone here has bought them or at least seen any first hand takes online. As always any help is appreciated, thanks.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, I was just wondering if anyone knew anything about the Sony DAV-DZ120 system. I just bought one for my parents for about $250 without doing any research on it. :(

The reason I did so is because I needed a gift for them, and they really won't see the difference between it and a high end model. I'd just like to know if it's at least decent. Anyone have any experience with it, or can point me to a place with some reviews?

The reason for no internet or personal reviews is most likely because Sony U.S. has received only a few units so far. None of the box stores have recieved any product yet.

I was thinking about getting one myself and my contacts at Sony distribution are keeping me abreast of delivery into the states.

Thanks for the time, I guess I'll just have to wait a few more weeks for reviews and units to start trickling in.

It's been more than a month since this thread was created. I was just wondering if anyone has any input on this system? Thanks!

Anyone have any more info on the DAVFX900W? My question is probably very basic. This system has two digital inputs...one optical and one coaxial. Does that mean I could hook up two digital pieces of equipment? Or does the system only recognize one at a time?

The answer is - it will recognize two digital inputs - optical and coax. The manual on page 31 shows TV/VCR1 reads the coax input, TV/VCR2 will use the optical.

It is somewhat limited in inputs, but if the inputs fill your needs (they do mine) it should work well for you. The audio output is more than acceptable, and it has a large number of "sound-field" settings to select from.

The wireless surround speakers aren't really since it requires a wire between the two surround speakers, but it solved a problem I have with installation, so that was a reason to select it.

What is really outstanding is the DVD upconversion feature. This gives amazing picture quality (about as good as the BlueRay setups I saw yesterday at the stores) when connected to a compatible HD display with the HDMI interface.

Manual sort of sucks. Sony saved $$$ by shrinking a manual made for 8.5x11 paper down to 5"x6" paper, and there are omissions and inconsistancies in the manual. Big HINTS: Speaker cables are COLOR CODED. Match colors to the speakers when assembling them. Also - you must manually turn on the surround amplifier which is located in the base of the left-rear speaker before doing the calibration. Neither of these are well covered in the manual.

On a scale of 1-10 where 10 is audiophile quality, this unit probably rates a 6. On a scale of 1-10 where 10 is good movie quality sound on a budget - it rates a 9. Good sound, well defined, for a bargain price compared to putting a system together from components. :)

deilenberger,

Have you learned if the 900W system will convert non-HDMI inputs (like a component video input from a satellite box) from analog to digital, and feed it to your TV via your HDMI connection? I think the answer is no (after reading the CNET review), but double-checking with you. I waded through the most of the DAV-FX500 manual online, but couldn't find an explicit statement about this for that system. I suspect they both DON'T support A-to-D conversion and output to HDMI, other than for the DVD player.

Unfortunately it doesn't do any conversions to HDMI. Component video remains component video. I don't see this as a big problem since many digital HD cable boxes like the Scientific Atlanta one I have (DVR model) has built in HDMI. Be sorta dedundent to feed analog component into a box to convert it to HDMI when the cable box outputs HDMI already.
