Has anyone done this, and has it improved anything about the S50? I'm pretty discouraged by the S50, which seems to crash every time I turn it off and hasn't been able to record anything at all for many weeks now. Thing is, I record Howard live to computer/iPod anyway, so I don't really need (or like or want) S50 recording, but that sort of means I paid $460 for a radio that performs no better than a $50 radio. It's just too much trouble to try to reverse any of that by now.

You know, I'm probably jinxing myself, but mine has worked flawlessly. I guess I can't say flawlessly, it has frozen from time to time when it gets too hot, but other then that, it's done what I've asked it too every time. I guess I got lucky.

Mine has also worked flawlessly *knock on wood* since last Christmas when I received it as a gift. I accidentally dropped the unit one time and it still works without a problem.
It might be that you have a defective unit. Did you try and contact the company?

I'm on my 4th S-50 since I signed up 12-30-05. I guess my extended replacement plan paid off in spades. I really like missing only 7-8 seconds of Howard instead of 5 minutes, so in my humble opinion the upgrade is worth it.
Jack, are you saying reception actually improved with the upgrade? That would be unexpected, I would think.

I have not had any reception problems, so I would say that I had not notice any difference after the upgrade. The biggest benefit for myself was the addition of back to back recording. I time shift Howard, so with the upgrade added about fifteen minutes of the show a day.
I found the clip management on the S50 so hard to deal with that I stopped recording on it and went straight to my Mac for THSS. Much simpler, much easier to deal with (I'd rather listen on a nano anyway). I could have saved $400 and just got a Sirius1 instead.

I feel much better now, as I've sat on my s50 since i received it as a present last Christmas. My neighbor has been having problems with his for a while, which has DEFINITELY discouraged me from hooking it up. I'll probably unload it on craigslist (for a fraction of the cost). My question, now, is what is the best configuration to setup sirius via my macbook (TomCat)?

sorry, do you mean an upgrade to the Stilleto or is there some new firmware?
