Those of us in Connecticut are getting hosed when it comes to HD. We are in both the New York and Boston local sports region but get no HD channels from either (with the exception of YESHD if you live close to the NY/CT border). As far as LiLs we only get CBS and NBC (no ABC, FOX or CW). Either D should put the RSNs on Hartford's spot beam since we have plenty of vacancy or he should get discounted for the lack of HD content provided to us.

Does anyone know why these games aren't showing up for me in Atlanta? I have mpeg 4 receivers and our local RSN (Fox Sports South) is showing the games in SD. Today we're getting the Oklahoma-Baylor game in SD, but nothing is showing up on 94-96. Should I be getting this game? Are other people getting it in HD on D*?

On 96 and possibly on 94, you will only get RSN broadcasts that are transmitted in HD, by your local RSNs. Not all RSNs are broadcasting in HD yet. Yours may not be. In most markets it will not be a constant signal. Only during games. Best thing to do is check 96 during Thrashers or Hawks games, to see if they are in HD. You should also see any upcoming broadcasts in your on screen program guide.

So far it seems like only the first two home games were on in HD. I wrote to D* about this, and of course customer service told me they don't carry FSN NE in HD. This is obviously not true since they did a few weeks ago and their own website says they do.

it seems like there is no reason not to do this

As we can see D*'s been pretty lame about this whole situation.

I'm being told by a CSR right now that MSG HD is already on Channel 627 and FSN-NY HD is on Channel 662. I said that I didn't think this was right but she says it is and that MSG SD is 621 and FSN-NY SD is 624.

I've done tons of reading/searching threads, apologies if this has been covered already... any answers/thread pointers appreciated.

Looks like I should have done more homework. 5-yr DirecTivo fan from NJ (me) made the plunge to HD this summer. I'd seen the Yankee games on channel 95 at a friend's house so I upgraded in anticipation of the Nets (also on YES-HD) after D* CSR assured me that I'd get all YES-HD broadcasts on 95. I bought a few $K of furniture & equipment. D* gave me a free HD Tivo for commiting for 2 yrs. Basketball season started but I get no YES-HD. (I do get my NY locals but bought all this for the RSN.) The CSRs happily tell me I can watch the RSN on my SD channels.

So now I learned from the forums (too bad the CSRs don't know about this) that the RSNs are MPEG4 and not viewable on the HD Tivo. I'm missing HD games now (mainly chose to re-up with D* over Cablevision for Tivo, I could have had YES-HD with non-Tivo HD DVR for less money from Cable) and D* says they are sorry and will offer me the new HD-DVR for $100, but I need to sign up for a waiting list and they don't know when I can get one! And now I don't think I even have the right dish.

I hadn't seen the forums for some time. Was there a revolt by Tivo lovers? Or sports fans? Should customers have been notified of the changes and accompanying costs?

I'm about to dump D* and go cable.

Here in Florida my program guide is reading:
627 = FSNY Alternate Channel
662 = FSN/MSG Alternate Channel. Next schedule event is Ranger/Sabres, Friday at 8:00 PM.

Neither one says anything about HD. They are not MPG4 spot beamed, as I am seeing them, here in Florida.

Since they are not full time channels, they should be on channel 95 or 96.

I think tonight's Thrashers/Rangers game should be on MSG-HD. We'll see if it's finally working.

This really is unbelievable.

In July 2006 D* announce that YES will broadcast Yankee games in HD for NY area. Not ONE game was viewable on channel 96 (MPEG-4), always had the "slow motion - 8mm" effect. The same game on channel 95(MPEG-2) was ok. Called every month and the answer was the same, they had an uplink problem with the broadcast.

Now it is basketball season and the NETS games have the same problem. OK on channel 95, fuzzy on channel 96. I called tonight 3 times, two times the person did not even know what MPEG-4 was. Then was told they would inform the technical people of the problem and I was the first person calling with this problem. Who are they calling ? Can they find the person who can fix this please.

There were numerous people who have posted the same problem

How could a problem like this go on for MONTHS ? There has to be a person somewhere in this country that is working on the problem.

And when is MSG and FSNY coming in HD, a public press release said October 2006 and still no sign of the channels.

I just dont understand.

I don't know if the grainy picture is due to the same problem we had over the summer with YES (the 8 mm effect). The local networks look sharp with good motion too. Motion looks good in these games from what I've seen. It's just a very "noisy" picture. It looks awful. I hope they fix it too.

Hopefully we're getting close with MSG HD and FSN NY HD.

I've never experienced a problem with the locals in HD on the mpeg4 format. I think there are still alot of uplink bugs/problems that are resulting in the grainy picutre. My question is though is it just the New York RSNs that have this problem or are other people experiencing the same garbage.

I understand that NESN was problematic at first, as were the locals in hd, but now all seems to be well.

The last game I checked on Channel 96: It finally looked good-; just like Channel 95 in mpeg-2! It looks like they straightened out the mpeg-4 PQ issue!

Yes, the last game looked good, but D* blacked out the previous game against the 76ers. It will be interesting to see how tonight's game goes.

Any Connecticut people still "living" in Boston?

I have my HR20 install this weekend and with the baseball season right around the corner, I was thinking about "moving" so I could get NESN-HD

i'm still in beantown, it's awesome. been here since last year. pre-season games start tonight in 1080i . it's a beautiful thing.

BTW, "move" after the install, and your sure everythings ok. you'd have to move back if you need service on your system. good luck.

i get a ton of boston locals , plus all the ct locals ota. best of both worlds. the only thing i use ct locals for is the news.

Can you "move" only a single receiver and leave the others home?/ :) My wife will never agree to givin up CT locals on our main tv, but me and my HD receiver in the theater would have no issue moving to beantown to get nesn. Not sure I would pick it up on the western side of the state though.

Why not an antenna for your locals?

I live in a very hilly area and have tried and can only pick up one channel, ABC. Nothing else even registers.

That's great to hear and also great to hear the Boston spot beam reaches Wallingford. I was worried that Farmington would be too far out but I guess I'll be fine. My install will be done Saturday, weather permitting. So if everything goes smoothly, I'll be moving early next week.

I was thinking about switching from Comcast to D* last summer when they added Fox Sports Detroit, but wasn't sure if the spot beam would reach me up in Lansing. I held out and now have all my locals in HD, plus FSN, VSGLF and more.

D* has a bright future with the new birds, but calbe has them beat right now.

I understand that if I call D*TV and tell them that I have "moved" to the Boston area I can get NESN HD etc. Can someone give me more detail? Such as, can I keep my current (CT) billing address, and how do I pick a MA address to use? I do have several relatives in MA but most already have D*TV, it this a problem?

Thanks for any help. Long time reader, first time poster!

I tried to "move" on line last night, but the only address I had the option to change was my billing address. My options were to enter in the new address or click "Same as Installation Address". Is there no longer a way to do this on-line?

There never was a way to "move" online. You always had to do that over the phone. That is when you still could.

You would have to be within the spot beam coverage for this to work.

That's true, of course. It seems that most if not all of CT is in the Boston spotbeam. There are many that have "moved" and have no problem getting the Boston stations. I don't know how far west you can go, but I know that Hartford is within the beam.

Wyatt9696 is in Wallingford and is within reach of the Boston spot. That's south and west of Hartford.
