I found this vendor online and have not heard of them. I can't find anything negative on them, but they are not listed with the Better Business Bureau. Any comments on this vendor are welcomed. Thanks...

Is this vendor still a forum sponsor? If not, why?

Surely someone has some input about this outfit.....

A GREAT EXPERIENCE!!!!!! Bill sold me my Pioneer 5060HD. I originally bought a Panny 60u and it arrived broken so I called them up and told them I wanted the Pioneer instead after getting a look at the Panny. They took care of it right away, they also offer technical support on the product for the lifetime of the product.

I WILL greatly buy from them again.

Hmmm. I guess i'm seeing mixed reviews, just like TV Authority is getting. Seems like a crapshoot and that things happen that are out of control for a lot of these online vendors. I'm still seriously considering Beyond Plasma for their excellent price on the upcoming Pioneer 6070. The email exchanges with them thus far have been promising. I spoke with Mike, the owner, and he seems legitimate and sincere with what he has to offer.

I'd still like to hear of more experiences from other AVS Forum members.....

monitoroutlet has quoted the same price;
however, with the 3% wiretransfer instant rebate, it would leave you $150 less than beyondplasma.

Now, am kind of debating on which store should I purchase from, cleveland, beyondplasma, or monitoroutlet. That all up to people here, where they most recommended.

Yet another online retailer I know nothing about. Has anyone ever dealt with them before? I can't find much online other than the feedback on their website which is biased.

They have the sickest plasma prices I have seen. Makes me wonder what I am missing. All the sets say "brand new".

I just received the email from monitoroutlet, they said ETA is 3rd week of July - 1st week of August.

Has anyone bought an LCD or plasma from Buydig or Beach Camera? I am considering going through one of those companies b/c they have the best price I can find but I have never ordered anything from them and want to make sure they are good vendors.

Any feedback is appreciated.

also, if you have an inquiry about a vendor, this is the thread to do it. All others will be closed and referred to this thread. Experiences may be posted but bashing will cause it to be closed or the offending post to be deleted. If you don't have a purchase experience with the vendor in question, don't post. For the most part, forum sponsors each have a thread for posting experiences, please do not start fresh ones in these cases either.

AVS is for technical issues first and foremost and is not reseller ratings.com etc..

I would use your platinum credit card vs. saving the 150 less with the wire transfer. When you use your platinum, you get an additional year of warranty on top of the manufacturers warranty. All the online vendors have this 3% off for wire transfers. It leaves you with no protection whatsoever. I wouldn't do it.

Their prices are excellent and they have a good rating- before I take the plunge (new plasma and pj) I'd like to be sure.

Hey guys,

You may have seen my recent thread on Beach Camera. I am trying to compare sellers right now as I am about to order a Samsung LN-S4095D. I saw on the resellerratings website that projectorexpo has a good rating. I would like to verify with fellow board members. Any thoughts and comments on past experiences with projectorexpo would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I bought my Panny from them a couple of years ago (delivered to San Francisco area), and their service was excellent. At that time, the delivery service said they were doing a large volume of deliveries in the Bay Area, so they've been around and of significant size for several years now.

I don't know if they'll let you pick one up, but I'm sure you can just call or email them to find out.

I've bought items from Buydig, Beach Camera and 6th Ave. By the way Buydig and Beach are the same company. I haven't had any issues with either one. Buydig and Beach are both members of Better Business Bureau and have a good rating. 6th Ave isn't a BBB member but seems to have a good rep as well. I would buy from any of them again.

I have found them to be over priced on LCD & Plasma.
Also don't call them for a repair on something out of warranty.
I've heard from a few people that they just want to sell you a new TV.
This best was a friend looked to have an 8 years old Sony projection tv fixed and they told him it wasn't worth fixing but still charged him $350. Well I gave him a number for someone else and thats what they charge him to fix it.
For a tv that wasn't worth fixing it been fine now for well over a year.
Boy did he have some words with them!!!
I would say look at Sams or Costco for some of your best deals.
Good luck.

I believe they are an old time Appliance Dealer in NY/NJ area. PC Richards & Sons I've known people to negotiate in the store to get a good deal but I don't think they'll haggle via the internet - they've been in business 96 years so we're looking at several generations. Cannot vouch personally as I don't live in the area but recall people posting on this forum having bought there. :)

Has anyone had any experiences - good or bad with purchases (plasma tv) from PC Richards?I just came from their Ledgewood store. Normally their prices are competitive if you know how to bargain but you might be aware that they're having an 'Employee Pricing' sale through tomorrow. Everything over $200 (I think that was the price) is marked down. I must say that I saw some VERY sharp prices. I was looking for a Panasonic 37PX60U for the bedroom and have spent the past hour trying to beat their price anywhere on the web; I've had no luck, even at the sleaziest of sites and before shipping! They had many Panasonic models, including the 600U's and the 58" 60U on display, as well as the 4270 and 5070 Pioneer's, all at really good prices.

I've bought TV's from them before and found them to be fine. They're also one of the few stores left that do their own service. Their service manager used to work for Sony when my shop was an authorized Sony Service Center. If he tells you that your out-of-warranty TV is not worth repairing, it's probably because it isn't. If you're in the market and in the NY/NJ area, it's worth your while to check this sale out! (No, I don't work for P.C. Richard).

P.S. I made a few observations while there...
I spent a lot of time comparing the 50PX600U Panasonic and 5070 Pioneer. There were no remotes so naturally the Panasonic had clayface and the Pioneer had over-saturated color. Still, these are two very good-looking TV's. I really couldn't see any apparent difference in the black levels between the two. Pioneer has made great strides with that, but the Panasonic seems to have caught up in the whites. Overall, I still prefer the picture on the Panasonic but it's CLOSE. I would love to see them both properly calibrated.

I also looked at the LCD's: The Sony's and Samsung's were the most impressive but I still preferred the plasma. There were two similar Sharp models side-by-side. Both were showing a 4:3 program so I had a chance to see the 'black' bars. The blacks looked pretty good straight-on but just moving a few steps off center to stand in front of the other TV made the blacks appear gray. The Sony and Panasonic LCD's seemed to have the best angle of view.

RicheyPoor , did you try pricing what you were looking for at Electronics Expo across the parking lot ?
I found them to be much better on pricing. I bought my 50PX500U there last year and got a killer price.
I used to have a friend who worked at that PC Richards store and I always got a "deal" but he left a few years ago before I started shopping for my plasma. I did get some great prices while he was there.

I did get some great prices while he was there.I actually went there first. They had last year's 37PX50U on display (and on sale) for $140.00 more than P.C. Richard had the 37PX60U for. I think the guy at Electronic Expo would have done better (he mentioned something about another 10%) but he'd have to knock off hundreds more than that to make me take last years model. I have nothing against Electronics Expo. I bought my AVR, speakers and sub-woofer there (after some haggling) but the prices at PC Richard are hard to beat at the moment. I really didn't want to do this until after the holidays but my wife wants a TV for the guest room and I had always planned on putting our 27" Sony Wega in there when I got a plasma for the master bedroom. When she finds out what I'm contemplating she may back off the guest room TV; if not I'll give Electronics Expo a final shot before buying.

The main competition for the 42PX600u is currently the Pioneer 4270HD. NEC also puts out a wonderful display, as does Hitachi at that size.

Beware. I'm going through a rather negative experience with them. They bait you with low prices and free shipping, then you will get multiple calls from salesmen pushing 'express shipping' and overpriced extended warranties. If you don't buy, suddenly the merchandise is out of stock and is on a slow truck from CA. I'm not buying.

After multiple delays, I have been promised shipment on Monday. We'll see. At least they weren't low enough to charge my card while playing these games.

Again, beware.

Hi,

I called them on August 12th, Saturday to check to make sure the Sharp LC-37d90u was in stock and the sales person confirmed it. Then he asked if I wanted to place the order directly with him. I said no, I'll order it through the web. Then he said that I should get extra warranty because it is expensive, which I declined. After that he didn't try to nag about it. So the phone conversation was good. The guy is just doing his job by trying to sell extra stuff, can't blame him. But he wasn't trying to oversell, which is a good thing.

I ordered LC-37d90u from their website on August 12th and received the E-mail of course. I called back on August 15th (Tuesday) to check if it has been delievered. The guy I talked to said it was sent out on August 14th and gave me a tracking number so I can check the status through the shipping company's website.

I finally received the unit on August 23rd, I live in CA.

The only problem I have is with their policy when receiving the product. Their policy clearly states that TV's 37" or larger needs to be openned when received to make sure it is not damaged. If it is, then I can refuse the shipment. But when I wanted to test the unit, the driver told me to sign it and wouldn't wait for me to plug it in to see if it works. So I'm not sure how I can refuse the unit. I think 6ave.com should have a better arrangement with their shippers. I'm assuming by refusing the shipment, the driver will take the unit back immediately or something.

This is my first purchase of this magnitude through the web. I think if I had to do it again, I would check for a better return/receiving policy.

So my experience with 6ave.com is good since the LCD works. But I'm not sure what would happen if the unit did not work since I was not able to test the unit and was rushed by the driver to sign for the delivery. And based on 6ave.com's policy, I will have to go through Sharp to fix the unit and can't exchange for a new one from 6ave.com.

Good luck.

Glad your experience was better. My still unshipped order was placed on Aug 17th. I also called to confirm the unit (a plasma) was instock, and would ship the following day. I've had three conversations concerning warranties - I think that's enough. I'm just telling the OP to be careful.

The domain name was registered July 18, 2006. That's waaaay too young to risk $4K of my money. I tried to check on the cost of shipping, and the site doesn't seem to actually have a shipping calculator. I went all the way through the checkout (with fake info, of course!) and it never told me the shipping cost nor did it ask for a credit card or any type of payment. It also seems a bit weird that it has a (415) area code phone number (San Francisco, CA), but the site is registed to someone in Florida. I suspect it's someone who just put up a site. Maybe a drop-shipper, or maybe just someone who doesn't know how to build an ecommerce web site...

i am considering purchasing the Sammy 4253 from Amazon.com and was wondering if ne1 has had any issues with amazon? I spoke to salesman at both, CC and BB, and they said that I would not be covered under warranty from Samsung because I would be purchasing at an unofficial retailer. I am trying to find the biggest bang for the buck and the Amazon purchase seems to be that. Is there any concerns I should have with ordering through amazon. Another plus is that they offer free shipping.

GooglyBear
09-19-06, 03:35 PM
You have to weight "best bang for the buck" vs "peace of mind"

how much is your peace of mind worth in relation to the cheapo price you're aiming for..

amazon is *email only*, any problems, questions, etc etc you will encounter and your only outlet is thru email..

-fire off email
-wait 24 hours or more just for a reply

all the while you're stewing..? like i said, anyone who goes for the cheapo prices definitely must weigh it against their peace of mind..

some people who have a disposable 2-3Large won't mind gambling with shady online retailers.. and that's really what it is, gambling

the best services usually comes from the sponsors of this forum, even the prices aren't so bad really.. b&m shops like circuit city and best buy etc also have their share of horror stories year in and year out so it's not always a guarantee

pretty much in a ladder step from best to worst
-forum sponsors
-b&m shops
-shady online retailers
-shady online retailers whose main form of communication is via email
-ebay

TVAuthority is excellent if they have the product in stock. If they have to put you on backorder they do not keep you inform about your backorder unless you keep calling their customer service. I bought a Pioneer PDP 5070 plasma and Samsung 1951 LCD from them recently. I am happy with their service overall. :)

Vann's is out of Montana. Top Buy Best claims to be out of Echo Park, CA (Los Angeles area)

Looks like Vann's has some sort of affiliate program, maybe that's what this is.

Seems a little odd to me... I would avoid this and go with one of the reputable AVSForum sponsors who generally have prices that are unbeatable.

Hi all,

I am new to this forum and new to the LCDTV market. However, I am looking to get an LCDTV and was wondering if I could get some suggestions on some good online retailers. How is the online retailer plasmahouse?

Also, is there any difference in the quality of the TVs that come from online retailers than what one would purchase from a store?

Thanks for all answers.

I am considering ordering my next flat panel online, as there is a significant price difference between some of these places and local b&ms.

Does anyone have any reccomendations?

I was looking at B&H and possibly *******. I am leaning towards b&h because they have a store in manhattan and I live in CT, so IF I had to go into the store for some reason I could get down there easily.

we can't say 1call?

dssturbo1

no the avs forum has a filter on some of the names of websites. one call happens to be one of them. b & H and one call are good etailers and also check out some of the forum sponsors at top of the page. If you have the b&m local versions of them that is good to check into.

just avoid those crooklyn type sites where the price is really too good to beleive they usually will bait and switch with prices and try and sell you sky high accessories/warranties/addons. if you don't buy them they dont have the product to ship you for weeks mysteriously.

I just wanted to write a quick review of my experiance with **********.com . For anyone who is thinking about buying a new television (expensive) online, this is for you.

Let me tell you, I did a lot of research on both the TV (50PX600U Panny) before buying and then had to find a good vendor to purchase through. I can understand the frustrations with buying online but I was impressed, and that is hard to, really hard to do (I have a Lexus and have taken it in for warrenty 10 times or so for very minor things). This company went above an beyond to ensure a smooth ordering process.

They called me like 2 hours after placing my order to confirm everything, then went over everything and gave me a extimated shipping date. The company they used for shipping was Manna (a frieght company that specializes in deliveries of big ticket items like this). They provides tracking on the whole process and answered any questions I had. Upon receving the TV the shippers let me inspect it and plug it in and it worked perfectly. The box was flawless and could tell it was handled with care.

If you are looking to purchase a new TV, you may want to consider them. I'm just trying to help other people out because I knew how worried I was ordering such a expensive item online.

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone has any good things to say about ordering LCD TV's online. It's easy to find good prices, but hard to find good service. I've found a good deal that I'd like to order and through my research the site is secure and all that but I haven't been able to find out about their service after the sale. Has anyone ordered or heard anything about "Abe's of Maine"?

PC Richards has a NO RETURN POLICY on TVs over a certain size (I think 32").

Otherwise they are great. I have tried to get them to change this policy and ended up buying my display from CC. Everyone says that the picture in your home is different than in the store, so the idea of spending thousands of dollars and not being happy with the picture makes no sense to me.

BTW, they will usually match or do better than online prices. If only.....

Anyone bought a Pioneer PDP-6070HD from Future Shop in Canada? I just got delivery of the unit on Friday and guess what? They don't ship them with the bottom speaker or table stand! Am I unique or was I duped? Pioneer Canada says that they are optional (Pio US info says they are included), FS is playing dumb saying they thought it came with it, blah, blah. If they would have told me while I was ordering, I could have been watching tv this weekend. Now I have to wait until next week to enjoy. Dissapointed!

If you complain enough they will give you a great deal on the stand. My uncle bought that set from FS and no he didn't get the stand or anything either, though he was wall mounting it anyway and had bought a wall mount stand for it before hand.

Hello guys I'm getting ready to order tonight from Electronics-expo.com I'm looking to buy the 46" Samsung LCD.

It seems that resellerating and epinions have outdated reviews. I wanted to know if anyone have purchased a big hdtv from this company and how it went.

I am choosing this company because there is no tax, free-ship, and most important it is a Samsung-authorized reseller.

Anyways, I intend to order tonight on Amazon which will process the order thru to electronics expo.

I am in CA and it appears they are in NJ.

Your feedback/experience is greatly appreciated.

I apologize in advance if this question doesn't belong here, but I honestly don't know where else it does belong.

I want to order a 32 inch LCD TV from Amazon. At one time I know for a fact that they did NOT allow returns for any TV 27 inches or above. I have just read every return policy type page on their site and can't find any mention of this anymore.

So, I had an Amazon rep contact me, and according to her, I CAN return a TV 27 inches or above.

Now, before I actually place my order, I want to know if anyone else can confirm that this is indeed true. So... anyone?

Thanks

Hope it's not out of topic for this forum...

Interesting you posted it right when I was looking into the same thing. :) I emailed Amazon with the same question last night regarding a 27" TV purchase. Here's their reply:

Please note that if you experience any kind of defect within 30 days
of receiving your purchase, we will replace it or issue a refund.

We will issue a full refund for most items returned within 30 days.
Items returned after 30 days or in unsellable condition will receive
only a partial refund.

There was nothing in the email or on Amazon's web site that would indicate that 27" or large sets in general cannot be returned. I do recall that used be the case so they must've changed their policy. HTH.

I tried to order a Summit Bar Fridge from them a few months back. Website said item was in stock. Right after I placed my order, I got an email saying it was out of stock. I proceeded to wait for about a month with continued phone calls to their customer service. Every time I called, no one could tell me when they expected to get more. Finally I gave up on them and cancelled the order. Sometimes the best price isn't worth it.

My recommendation would be to be careful.

I'm new to HD and have finally decided to by a Pioneer 5070HD plasma. Prices are all over the map but I can definitely find the best deal online (CNET pricing). My questions is what online companies can I trust. I've found it for about $2,500 but have not heard of most of these online companies. Does anyone have some good experience with particular online shops. Here's another plug for Visual Apex.

My TH-42PH9UK showed up today. I was very happy with VA - they called after I ordered the set to ensure I knew that it didn't come with a tuner or stand. No sales pitch, they just wanted to make sure I knew. The tv showed up on time, delivered by Expeditors. The driver unpacked the set, checked for damage, and carried the it into a spare bedroom where it could be locked up and kept away from the kids...

Overall...an excellent experience!

va murph--i want you to pay attention closely. i will give you EXCELLENT advice and would hope that i am not wasting my time in doing so. many folks give advice without experience, second hand, heresay, etc. do not gamble a 3000$ purchase on second hand advice. i have sig experience with on-line buying, and know exactly where to go and whom to work with. i am also in the process of buying a pio 5070 or the elite 1140 myself, and am working with the very people i am advising you to talk to.

For the 5070 i would go with dtvcity.com. they are VERY honest, professional, and straight forward. what they say they are going to do, they do. they have a large showroom in atlanta, and they stock their own merchandise. both of these features are predictive of a very professional and honest transaction. dtvcity is an AUTHORIZED pioneer dealer, and you ONLY want to buy pioneer tvs from an authorized dealer, in order for pioneer to recognize their manufacturers warranty.

dtvcity has an unsurpassed 30 day return guarantee should there be any defects with the tv. they play NO games, and they do NOT try to hard sell, bait and switch, or any of that crap many on-line sales people engage in. they treat you like you want to be treated--a respected and valued customer. i have 2 panasonic plasmas i bought from them over the past 3 years, each was a very smoothe and pleasant buying experience, no pressure, no innuendo, no unanswered questions, excellent prices, good advice, etc.

they have the pio 5070 on sale for a C note and a half less than 3 large--SHIPPED. i have shopped around a lot and this is a VERY good deal, and the best for an authorized dealer. if you find an authorized price less than this, they will match it. you can find on-line prices for 3-8% less, but not thru an authorized, reputable dealer. it is NOT worth trying to save an extra 100-200$ in exchange for peace of mind and a virtual guarantee that you will be 100% satisfied--take my word for it, i have experience!!

if you want an extended warranty, i would check tvauthority, clevelandplasma, beyondplasma, and MACK to get the best price. dtvcity's price is okay, not the best. that is up to you.

plasma concepts is a very classy outfit but their prices are very high, the last time i checked. tvauthority is a sponsor, but has really developed serious delivery and customer service problems. they have promised to clean up there act, but this has continued unabated. there also have been issues with honesty/integrity involving their sales staff. this is a non-starter as far as i am concerned, and i would hope you do business ONLY with
people of the highest integrity. buying an expensive item from a dealer who has exhibited suboptimal customer service and compromised integrity should be a "no go", at least until they get their act together, and they provide PROVEN hi-quality and honest service.

if you follow my advice, you will be very happy and satisfied, and you will probably shop there many times in the future. good luck, and keep me posted on what happens. jeroldd

I myself am in the market for a Panasonic 42PX600u or a Pioneer 4270. The 4270 can be had at Abes of Maine, a dealer from which I've purchased items before. Unforunately, they aren't a certified Pioneer dealer. The kicker is they have a price at least 3 C's less than any authorized dealer... I need to shop around a bit more from the authorized dealers, but $300 is exactly half a PS3, and I fully intend on purchasing one... I dunno.

I'll be checking plasmaconcepts and dtvcity both tomorrow, though.

Oh I was by no means recommending them... I have just purchased camera equipment from them before without any problems is all. I'm very hesitant to purchase anything as expensive as a plasma from anyone but a respectable and authorized dealer... Especially the Pioneer, as that is the only way to retain the manufacturer's warranty.

If I decide to go with the Panny 600u, however, I may be tempted by Abes...

I ordered two LCD's from TigerDirect, a 37" as a Christmas gift for my grandchildren and a 32" for myself. When UPS dropped off the 37 the box had a rip on the front side. I unpacked the LCD and discovered the screen was cracked. I called TigerDirect and they e-mailed me a return authorization label for UPS and shipped a replacement LCD. Yesterday when my 32" arrived I gave the UPS driver the damaged LCD.

The replacement LCD is scheduled to be delivered on Monday. The 32 arrived in excellent condition and works perfectly. It is nice to see that their are companies that value your business and provide excellent customer service.

Excellent experience from Fry's on a Samsung LN-S4051D

Bought on Black Friday, They shipped same day from Warehouse in Ohio, Shipped Via DHL arrived and delivered to my House in South Florida on Monday. This was with FREE ground shipping option.

I was in shock, As the company I work for does a lot of shipping via LTL, UPS, Fed-Ex and I know (researched cost and delivery times) for shipping this TV from various parts of the Country.

Fry's confirmed my purchase by E-mail with-in 2 hours on black Friday and had a DHL tracking # assigned. Checked on monday morning w/ DHL website tracking and it arrived and was out for delivery.

Fry's had the best price ( -40% off retail) on the LN-S4051D on black Friday I had seen from any seller (B&M or On-line) in stock and free delivery.

Not sure what Amazon's return policy is on their tv's, but, I can tell you that if you have an issue and actually need to talk to someone on the phone...good luck! It's been my experience with Amazon that they make it VERY difficult to get in touch with them or even find a number on their site to get in contact with them.

Amazon has a stated policy BUT I have read that people have returned large TVs for full refunds. If the TV is defective then they would probably issue a refund but if it was jsut a matter of you changing your mind then it may be a different story.

I'll add that in my experience Amazon has always been very responsive to my questions. They e-mail wi 6 hours usually and even have an option where you can have them call you, so you don't have to wait on hold.

This is the most specififc thing I could find regarding Amazon returning a large TV....

Returning Electronics
Electronics purchased from Amazon.com, including items from the Target at Amazon.com store, are easily returned to Amazon.com within 30 days of receipt of shipment via our online Returns Center. These items must be in new condition with original packaging and accessories. We cannot accept returns of products missing the serial number or UPC; we will not issue refunds for such items

also found this:

Items that are Not Returnable
Amazon.com does not accept returns of the following items:

Hazardous items that are gas-powered or contain flammable liquids. (These items will say "This item cannot be returned" on their product detail page.)
Computer laptops and desktops more than 30 days after delivery.
Any product missing the serial number or UPC.
Gift certificates.
Grocery products and Gourmet gift baskets.

Its good to hear that because I always hear bad things about tiger direct. Infact that was one of the reasons I decided against getting the sony 50E2000 from them at a good price.

I've never heard of anything bad about them. I've dealth with them for years.

TigerDirect has WAY too many "Very Dissatisfied" posts on resellerratings dot com (like half of them!!). And i wonder how many of the "Very Satisfied" posts are fake posts of praise? I scratched them off my list long ago, and my recent visit to RR shows they still have an incredible amount of "Very Dissatisfied" posts.

Not that I have anything against sites like resellerratings or have any reason to defend companies like Tiger Direct, but, I would say ALL consumers should take all of this stuff with a HUGE grain of salt. The reality is that huge, reputable companies like Best Buy and Circuit City have horrendous ratings on this site, and when I say horrendous, I mean less than half of the rating Tiger Direct managed to pull in the past 6 months. I don't know a thing about Tiger Direct or even what they sell. Just trying to make the point that this website rates a lot of well-known companies that I've never had any issues with as being very poor in the customer satisfaction department.

A few days ago I clicked on an ad while searching in Google and came across a site called cheaperthanbestbuy. They were kind've strange. They only list a few items, and they claim to only refer you to top vendors. Anyway, I took a chance and ordered a Panasonic TH58PX60U plasma HDTV. [EDIt], the set arrived promptly and it looks great. Just one newbie's experience.

my friend who ordered a samsung 57 lcd 1080p from a new york online seller BAJANGLES recieved his tv a couple days ago and we hooked it up today. we noticed some of the menus are in korean. all english but "channels" and "guide" are in korean

also noticed the inputs in the back are labeled in korean. i think they sent him a grey market set.

is there a way to change the language? also will samsung honor the extended warranty he bought?

i don't know what to tell him and don't know if i want to be the one to tell it if it's bad news. i'm hoping it's not too bad. he's only had posession of it for a few days.

the box also had a refurbished label on it. all this is stacking up to be very questionable.

***update**
bajangles has a notice at the bottom of the order page that the set is a "recertified"

the set sent to my friend is "recertified" AND "grey market"

does anyone think that in this circumstance "bajangles" will swap out for a "recerified" us set (if you click on the link about what recertified means, there is a pragraph talking about "grey market" as well)

do you think that is considered informing the consumer that it is "also"

a grey market item?

if the answer is what i fear, would visa/mastercard consider this reasonable enough to dispute?

i found this page at their site. scroll down and you'll see a link for "recertified"

the thing is i remember that it was a salesman who convinced my friend (via phone) to not buy a 52 inch samsung because he had this great deal on the 57 samsung. so my friend most likely did not see this page at all.

originally he ordered the 52 with free shipping. after waiting months without any tv shipping he calls and the salesman give him this line about the 52 not being in stock (even though the web page show they are) then the story changed to those customers who pay for shipping will get it first.

salesman tries to sell my friend a sharp model first but after sticking to the samsung the salesman finally offers this 57 model which was a good price.
not good enough for grey market and refurbished though.

what do you guys think. does my friend have a case?

bosng

I kind of doubt it. Caveat Emptor and all that. I went to that site and they are selling sets well below the going rate for "new". They are also upfront about what recertified and grey market entail. So I doubt your frined can claim they were hiding anything. Ignorance or just failing to even check the site out aren't grounds, in this case. Doesn't stop you from trying, though. At this point, whaddya got to lose, except a beautiful set that was half the cost of a new one,,,,,,,,,,

They clearly state in the event of warrantee concerns, you have to ship the unit to the country it came from - in this case, Korea. That doesn't stop you from trying to get work done through Samsung Corporate in the U.S. Just be ready if they say "Sorry, that serial # has to go home for warrantee work" or somesuch.

Since the only thing untoward with this unit appears to be a language issue, if I was your friend, I'd go and get an english factory manual and translate whatever functions, menu keys etc. needed to be done and then once the set is configured the way he liked, sit back and enjoy the set for what it is: a refurb'd foreign model that was had for a very, very good price.

Best of luck to you -

i would agree on the "recertified" part but nowhere did it say that the tv was
a grey market tv.

on the order page no mention of grey market at all until you click the "recertified" link which brought you to the definition/terms page in which the "grey market" definition was the one right after recertified.

seems like something underhanded at worst from bajangles or a mistake on bajangles part for sending the wrong tv.

if you bought from the present order page, it still says that the tv is covered by the u.s. warranty.

would you be happy if you bought this and found out you need to send it to korea to get it fixed? ie: no warranty and on top of that they sold you an extended warranty to boot! what a rip. extended option to ship to korea!

the more i think of it the more i'm convinced that bajangles did him wrong.

they are not selling this set for way under anyones price. they are only a hundred bucks less that another merchant who clearly states that the unit is NEW and a US model.

i don't think anyone would consider a refurb+no warranty+menus in korean is worth 100 dollars in savings.

which is why BAJANGLES did not state it clearly. even on their page now it is misleading!!!!!

if nothing else comes of this i hope others will be warned to stay away from Bajangles as they are clearly not honest.

PROBLEM SOLVED. bajangles not at fault.

Sportwarrior...what did you purchase at Abes? I'm thinking about buying the 50px600 from them...I mean, they are a better business bureau member...lots of positive reviews on price-grabber dot com...I want to believe but need some affirmation. Anybody else use Abes of Maine???

Okay, answering my own question...not even going to risk it...going to pay the extra dollars and go with a legit vendor (one call, vanns, cleveland plasma, etc...).

Too tired of reading all of the bad reviews...don't even want to go through one of those horrible experiences.

update on the bajangles situation.

called samsung to confirm that the set is grey market then called bajangles to let them know this is the case.

bajangles insisted on letting them straighten this out with samsung. made samsung pay for shipping both ways and got the correct set.

whole thing was a mistake on the part of samsung and bajangles rectified the problem.

so i've changed my position against bajangles and can say they are an honest dealer.

good going BAJANGLES!!

Hi,

This is my first post but I've been looking at the Panasonic TH-50PH9UK and I stumbled upon the site of AVOutpost. It had a outrageously low price for this television when compared to other retailers on Froogle. The site says the store is situated in France somewhere but I don't know if that information is reliable.
Now my question is, is this store reliable?
Thanks

The only reason I'm considering buying from them is the fact that they accept Paypal. My Boss bought his Pioneer Industrial model from VA and was extremely happy with their customer service and the whole online buying experience. They answered all his questions and actually helped him realize that the Pioneer was a better choice for his particular needs than the Panny he was originally inquiring about. I have only seen good things about VA on the various forums and i recommend them to people often and everybody is always happy. You'll have no worries buying from these guys.

I don't see how they would be any different to deal with as far as customer service goes. I've bought several pannys from them and they were fantastic to deal with, had to return a broken display and they couldn't have been easier to deal with. You won't be sorry if you buy your plasma from them.

I had considered starting a thread like this as I'm buying a plasma and notice the deals for online merchants are a lot better than the local authorized retailers. I know doing this has an affect on the warranty, but even if I buy an extended 3 year warranty it still comes out hundreds cheaper. If I do the research and know what TV I want and research the feedback for the preferred online retailer, what sort of other pitfalls should I look out for?

Sorry if I hijacked your thread Mike, but I didn't see the need to start another one.

Hi guys, I bought a Panasonic 42" plasma from Amazon a little less than a month ago for pretty much the same reason that you guys are thinking about it--price. I was concerned about the warranty as well, but I believe I had read somewhere that Panasonic still honored the warranty even though Amazon isn't an authorized dealer (can't say about other manufacturers). Anyway, mine was shipped by freight to my door. Now, I live in the middle of nowhere, so my experience may be different, but a guy in a box truck delivered mine, and he parked on the street in front of my house and I had to help him carry it in. No big deal, but that's how it went. He showed me how to open it up and then left. My plasma was in perfect condition and everything went beautifully. Now, had I opened it up and found a few pixels were burned out or some other problem, I don't know what would happen--however the delivery guy said to save the boxes and stuff for a month, just in case I needed to send it back, saying that made things a lot easier. So, apparently, he's had to accept returns of plasmas before--meaning it can be done. Anyway, that's my experience, but as always, your mileage may vary.

Being in the business for a while I am familiar with Amazon. They are good depending on which product you order but allot of times you are not even ordering from them directly. Also the biggest disadvantage is if you have a problem and don't have a dedicated person to take care of you. I have learned it the hard way waiting for items to arrive for a long time.

DDG1914
03-14-07, 04:08 PM
That's the thing. Sometimes, you are actually buying from another merchant through them, and some of those merchants don't have the best reputations. Now, you might think that they would make sure to be honest with their orders through Amazon right, but that might also be naive. It may be worth taking the chance with a $30 CDRW drive, but with a $1500+ television? Nope.

Has anyone ordered from EMPIREDIGITAL ???

I placed an international order for a Pioneer 5070 . Unfortunately there was no other store that would ship it outside of US.

This is an ebay store that mainly sells cameras, but now is selling a lot of plasmas.

After a week I sent the money this sales guy keeps giving me excuses why he doesnt have a tracking number.

I dont think they are thieves but I´m very worried after reading negative reviews ( even tough they have 97% positive feedback) that they will send a used or brocken tv

I would appreciate any opinion !!

Don't know what you mean by disreputable, but the online merchants I'm looking at have a very good feedback rating. There's a difference of well over $500 between them and what I can get locally for the set that I want with free shipping. Plus, I won't have to pay 9% sales tax. For a $3000 TV, that's meaningful.

Just following up on my Amazon ordering experience. I did actually order the TV from amazon and not a 3rd party through Amazon. If it's a 3rd party it'll say "ships from and sold by XXXX". Also, even if a 3rd party seller is listed on the main product page, if amazon offers the product as well it will say so under "More Buying Choices" on the right and you can select to buy from them at a higher price if you'd rather buy from them. I was careful to make sure I bought from Amazon themselves because they are an authorized Pioneer online seller.

Anyways..my buying experience couldn't have been better. I ordered a Pioneer 4270 from Amazon Sunday night that included free 'white glove' shipping. Got a tracking number on Monday and a call from Eagle to schedule a local delivery on Wednesday. Scheduled a Thursday morning delivery and had the driver call 30 minutes before so I didn't have to take the whole morning off work. Driver brought the TV into our house, unpacked it and helped set it up on our TV stand. TV was in in perfect condition and looks amazing!

NewEgg is very reputable, that being said, they tell you exactly right up front what your options are for returning if the product is DOA or not working properly. Many times they tell you that once you buy you must deal with the manufacturer if DOA or not working according to manufacturers specs. I'd call and talk to them to find out your recourse in any and all such cases. Better to know your rights before you order.

Re Newegg's large tv return policy- I wouldn't see anything wrong with dealing with the manufacturer if the merchandise was DOA, but the way the policy reads, it seems as if they're saying they don't even want you to open the box to check for damage. They tell you to refuse the shipment if the box looks damaged.

I ordered my Olevia 537 from Target.com last November. I chose target because of price, return policy, extended warranty, and their reputation.
Honestly I've always loved target. I even bought my tv stand and audio pier from them; and more recently a ladder shelf to match.
You will have to pay shipping for a return, not an exchange or (extended) warranty replacement. This is one of the many reason's I like LCDs as their low weight makes it cheap to ship (and easy to move ;) ). If you do order, consider their Protection Plan. I paid only $60 to cover my 37" for 3 years. I don't normally buy these but at that price I couldn't resist the piece of mind

Has anybody ever ordered a TV from onsale.com? They have a very good price for the TV I'm interested in, but their shipping rates seem too good to be true: $28 with UPS ground for a 37" TV from CA (I assume) to VA. I didn't even think UPS delivered 37" TV's.

So I'm afraid I might have a bad surprise when the TV is shipped. I also suspect this is another case of drop shipping and the TV will actually be shipped by the manufacturer, who might just decide not to ship if the shipping fee doesn't cover the cost.

Thanks!

I too am a long time lurker, and use this forum to inform myself on many issues. First I want to mention that when I bought my first PDP, a 42PD25 several years ago from TVA I had a no hassle positive experience.
That being said, because all of you high tech nuts keep us all informed, I chose another source for my new 50PX6OOU.
If you troll the several sources for retailer reviews, the store that I chose has many negative ratings, but as I read, and I did read the reviews, most of the problems were not retailer related.
Broken panel, etc. The main complaint is the follow up sales call to up sell accessories.
I've bought other items from Abes of Maine and that is a tactic they employ to sell cables, mounts, etc.
All I can tell you is, get over it. Learn to say no thank you.
My panel arrived, no problems seven days after I orderd it, and other than the "sales call" it was as smooth a transaction as could be hoped for.
And the price was screaming good. The Panel is more than I expected.
Thought I owe the group a little info. :D

Bob Doseck and the staff at Plasma Concepts should not be overlooked in your search for a new plasma or LCD. I communicated with many vendors before purchasing my PIO PDP 5070 and Bob was absolutely the most helpful person I talked with. I had an email receipt and tracking info within minutes of my purchase. The driver that delivered my set insisted on opening the box and allowing us to inspect it before signing off. A few days later I decided I wanted an articulating mount for my plasma. With Bob's guidance, I ordered the Peerless PLA50 in glossy black to match the set. The mount was shipped same day and arrived two days later. Unfortunately the mount arrived minus several vital pieces. I was in a tight spot because I had someone coming to my house the next evening to help me install the mount. Bob contacted Peerless and they over nighted the parts to me. I had them in hand the next morning. Afterwards I have been contacted by Bob more than once to insure I was happy. Peerless also contacted me to insure I was taken care of. From my experience, I hold Plasma Concepts in very high regard and recommend Bob and company very much. Customer service just doesn't get any better than this.

Hi everyone. I am looking to order the Samsung LN-T5265 and the prices I can find online are far better than at sotres like Best Buy.

What has been people experiences with online sites? Are they reliable? Do you get new TVs or refurbished ones? How good are they with returns?

Any advice you can give is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Since I have less than five posts I cannot post links, but if you search in google, "samsung authorized dealers," click on the first link, and click "For a list of authorized consumer electronics dealers, click here" that will give you some online places.

ResellerRatings is also a good place to find reviews of online stores.

Vanns seems to be a good online retailer although a few have complained about their shipping company (Yellow, I believe) that Vanns uses.

I have been ordering PC stuff from Newegg for years, and I haven't had a single problem with them. They're fast, accurate, and their customer service is outstanding. I've only had to deal with customer service reps a couple of times, but each time my feeling was that customer satisfaction really was their primary concern. They have an AA rating at the BBB, and they deserve at least that.

Just two caveats:

1) I've never ordered a TV from them (but I've ordered several items in the same price range).

2) They accept returns and exchanges on some TV's, but not all. The return policy is clearly stated on the web page for each item.

Just to add on that:

Bulk Item Return Policy

* Return for refund within: non-refundable
* Return for replacement within: non-replaceable

This is our Detailed Bulk Item Return Policy. Bulk Items (including but not limited to such items as Air Conditioners, Home Entertainment Systems and Televisions 24 inches and larger) cannot be returned to Newegg for refund or replacement service. Therefore, you are urged to carefully examine the box your bulk item ships in before signing for the package. Should you observe any damage to the shipping box, or if the wrong product was sent, you must refuse delivery while the shipping courier is still on the premises. The item will be returned to Newegg and you will be refunded the full amount, including applicable shipping costs and tax.

If you determine upon inspection that the condition of the shipping box is satisfactory, an adult is required to sign the shipping courier's release form to complete delivery. By signing this release, you are acknowledging and agreeing to Newegg's Terms and Conditions, understanding that you cannot return the television to Newegg and that the condition of the delivery meets your expectations. After delivery, please read all included documentation and/or contact the manufacturer directly to determine applicable warranty coverage, if any.

LCD Display Return Policy

* Return for refund within: non-refundable
* Return for replacement within: 30 days
* There must be a minimum of 8 dead pixels to declare an LCD display defective and eligible for return.

Newegg sells many products such as Notebooks and Monitors that feature LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) screens. Newegg adheres to the dead-pixel policy that is observed by the majority of our manufacturers. In order to declare any product with an LCD screen "defective" and eligible for replacement or refund through any applicable Newegg Return Policy, there must be a minimum of 8 (eight) dead LCD pixels.

I've ordered more than I care to say from Newegg. Definitely my #1 store for purchases, but there is no way I would purchase a large TV from them simply because of their policy. You might receive a box that looks good, only to open it and find the screen is smashed in. Or, everything will be fine except when you plug it in & turn it on. The only recourse you have at that point is dealing with the mfr.

My favorite places to purchase high $$ electronics: ABT, Vanns, B&H, J&R. Crutchfield is fantastic, except that they typically sell at MSRP. Vanns, at least, has a 15 day return policy if something is wrong.

Just don't get sucked into a super price-there are so many $hit etailers out there.

While most TV's at Newegg fall under the "Bulk Item Return Policy" or the "[LCD]Limited Non-Refundable 30-Day Return Policy", a few are covered by the generic (not LCD-specific) "Limited Non-Refundable 30-Day Return Policy":

Limited Non-Refundable 30-Day Return Policy
Return for refund within: non-refundable
Return for replacement within: 30 days
This is our Detailed Limited Non-Refundable 30-Day Return Policy. Products that state "This item is covered by Newegg.com's Non-Refundable 30-Day Return Policy", or items labeled as “Non-refundable” (or similar labeling) must be returned to Newegg.com within 30 days of the invoice date for this policy to apply. Products covered by this return policy may only be returned for a replacement of the same item.

See the Sharp LC42D72U, LC32D43U, LC37D43U for example.

Just wanted to pipe in with my experience. I ordered a 60" Pioneer Plasma from Roman at Invision and I thought his customer service was excellent and he gave me a very good deal on the price. I ordered on a Friday and there was a little hassle due to snow that weekend. I was on the phone with Roman (very easy to get in touch with) and he worked diligently to get it solved. I had my TV by the following Friday (7 days total). There was also a slight glitch from the mount company in that they sent the wrong mount (not Invision's fault so he overnighted my the correct mount so it would be there the same day as my TV). Any place can look good when the transaction goes smoothly but the true mark of a good retailer is how they respond if there is a glitch and I think that Roman did a great job resolving everything to my satisfaction.

Hello all,

I've been a lurker here over the past few months, and have enjoyed learning about the different TVs on the market. I started with interest in LCDs, but slowly migrated over to the plasma camp. After 4 months of consideration, I've made up my mind.

I intend to purchase a PDP-5070 in the next week or two - and have been eyeing 6th Ave due to their low prices & status as an official Pio dealer. I have also exchanged messages with Roman @Invision, who I know provides stellar service.

So, two questions:

1) If anyone has purchased a plasma from 6th Ave (out of state - not local), how was the experience / service?

2) Does the PDP-5070 come with the stand pre-attached? If so, I won't have to worry about getting an "installation" option.

Please note that I have no intention of returning the TV (short of shipping damage or malfunction - in which case I would want a new one). I do need white glove delivery, though. I live alone, and must get the unit up 2 flights of stairs & set atop an entertainment rack.

BTW - Yes, I've wrestled with the idea of waiting for the 8G Pioneers; however current pricing is about as much as I care to spend - and I doubt the 8G's will hit these prices for awhile. Though any evidence to the contrary would be welcome! :p

Thanks for all your help.

You are best off going with a Forum sponsor. The potential to save a few $$$ isn't worth the possible hassle of dealing with a relatively unknown entity e.g.:

Visual Apex (http://www.resellerratings.com/store/Visual_Apex)

Invision Displays (http://www.resellerratings.com/store/Plasma_Connection_Invision_Technologies_ITC)

Plasma Concepts (http://www.resellerratings.com/store/Plasma_Concepts)

Sixth Avenue Electronics / 6th Ave (http://www.resellerratings.com/store/Sixth_Avenue_Electronics_6th_Ave) (~1 out of 3 buyers are dissatisfied)

When you buy from a Forum sponsor... you also receive member support if by remote chance, anything goes wrong.

Ordered Pio6070 Wednesday morning. Got a call to schedule delivery Friday. Delivered Monday during a northeaster. Driver drove down a flooded road to my house, helped me carry set inside in a pouing rain, with 60 mph wind gusts, and unpacked it to check for damage.

By the way the set is awesome! The build quality is super, from the packaging to the
stand, speakers, and mounting hardware with rubber on surfaces to eliminate vibration. Hate the remote though.

So, thanks Plasma Concepts!

I got my 5070 from Bob at Plasma Concepts about two months ago. I was extremely pleased with the experience. Bob was right up front about everything. I found even though others advertise "guaranteed lowest price" the Plasma Concepts price was better. I had an invoice and tracking info in hand the same day I ordered. The set arrived on time and the delivery guy insisted on unpacking and inspecting the set to be sure all was OK. Later I ordered an articulating mount from Bob and although I was amazed how quickly it arrived, unfortunately some vital parts were left out. One phone call to Bob and the parts were shipped over night. Some places are only too happy to take your money and then ignore you when you need help. This is not the case with Plasma Concepts. Do yourself a favor and give them a call if you're in the market for a new plasma or LCD.

Well I am at my wits end dealing with CC an BB. I have decided to look online and have noticed some very good prices on 40-42 inch 1080p LCDs. I am looking pretty much for a new Samsung 4061, or maybe a 42D72U. Who has purchased online, and were you happy with the results? I am a little nervous spending this amount on something I can't touch, or with someone who is out of state who just looks at me as a billing invoice number. I also noticed some companies charging enormous rates for shipping, does that buy you a better carrier? Thanks guys. :)

I bought an Olevia 747i, with a none refundable return policy, when I recieved it (it was dropped shipped for them) it was an open box, so I filed a complaint, and they filed a cliam to replace it which went on for a month. After which I phoned and told them this sucks... so they RMAed it and gave me a full refund. Getting through to customer servic over the phone can take over 30mins. So not the quickest support but better than I expected.

Hi Guys

After years of waiting, I have finally decided to buy the flat screen TV that meets all my requirements.

I wanted a 60 inch set in the 4K range. I was interested in an LCD due to its brightness and the TV will be in my family room with plenty of light. But the price of 57 inch and up are twice that of a 60 inch plasma. Hence I am getting the Pioneer 6070hd (60 inches). I really liked its picture at BB. Having used to the PQ of satellite broadcasts on my Sony 36' XBR, I want nothing less.

Have been doing some price comparisons online and would like some feedback/info on online retailers you would recommend.

Thanks

I ordered my PDP-5070HD plasma set from Roman last week at Invisiondisplays (forum sponsor) due to all the positive feedback from other AVS members. I have no beef with my local Best Buy, but they couldn’t touch the price I got from Roman and no tax. There’s always that piece of mind thing buying local, but my set arrived without a scratch. I’m sure the other forum sponsors are great as well, but I picked Invisiondisplays and the whole transaction was silk. The pioneer is a great set and you’ll enjoy it for sure. Thanks, Roman and AVS members for your past feedback that helped me decide on a great plasma.

I also bought this TV from Roman, I bought it on Wednesday and it arrived Monday afternoon during the bad nor-eastern.

The freaking TV is amazing and the transaction with Roman was the easiest thing I have ever bought in my life.

You can't even walk into a BB or CC and get a DVD that easy.

I had a 50" Zenith plasma that I bought from CC last year and this Pioneer just blows it out of the water.

I will be posting pic's soon. My old mount did not work so I am just waiting on that to arrive.

Thanks again Roman and any TV I buy in the future I will get from you again.

I'm moving to Phoenix in the next couple of weeks from Pittsburgh and am planning on buying the pioneer PDP-5070HD. My cable is set to be turned on one day after arrival.

My question: Is it better for me to attempt to deal with a brick and mortar store in phoenix and try to get that tv or buy one online. Supposing a B&M establishment had it, would they be able to do same day delivery...is that common or outlandish of me to expect that.

Second, would I have trouble still finding the PDP-5070HD from a B&M store now?

If not, then the big thing for me is....I can get my tv from an internet retailer, buy it now, and have it set for delivery on the first day I'm in my new apartment, which is a big plus for me.

Also, are there any other advantages to B&M stores over internet retailers?

Sorry if this has been addressed elsewhere.

HJM
05-04-07, 07:12 PM
This is a tough decision. A B&M store will be able to give you an exact delivery day, but it might not be the same day and it will cost you more than an e-tailer.

Going online will certainly be cheaper, especially if they are not located in AZ (saves you tax). However, I have had a little too much experience with freight companies and can tell you that getting it on a specific day is next to impossible.

If I were you, I would order online, but make sure they use a freight company who is willing to hold the TV in Phoenix for a few days free of charge. Then order it in advance so it arrives a few days before you get there. You then set up an appointment with the freight company to deliver it the day you want. This way, you have a couple of day buffer for shipping delays.

Best of luck! (i hate moving)

DDG1914

The only advantage I see with a B&M store is being able to take the TV back within 30 days. It shouldn't be hard to find the 5070 in stores. After all, until the new models come out, the 5070 is part of the current line.

I spoke to a couple of forum sponsors about purchasing a 5070 and they both told me that if I ordered now, they could have it here in 3-4 days and that I could specify an exact delivery date with the local delivery service. That should work perfectly for you. Just tell them which day you are going to be there and you should be all set.
