View Full Version : Kyle XY on ABC Family
NetworkTV 07-14-07, 09:42 AM I don't find it silly at all. If you know it is filmed in HD, it is only a matter of time before it shows up in HD or at least DVD 16:9 somewhere. I'd rather wait.
Well, it sounded like the poster had no plans to watch it all all if he couldn't see it in HD - not that he'd wait to see it in the format somehow. That's what I was responding to.
CPanther95 07-14-07, 10:13 AM Yeah, I'd break down if there was no chance of a widescreen presentation and watch it in SD.

When they go HD, I'm guessing ABC Family will probably need as much HD content as they can get so I suspect that re-runs and new episodes of Kyle XY will be in HD at some point in 2008.
For me, filling up viewing time during the summer of 2007 outweighs waiting.
ion-man 07-15-07, 04:21 AM While I wait for the HD feed I am currently following this second season, having missed the first. I have one question: why does kyle prefer to sleep in the bathtub?

It reminds him of his gestation tank---his version of "in the womb" comfort spot.
tonybradley 07-15-07, 10:04 AM I watched last season in HD on ABC. So far this season, I've watched every episode in SD on my 36" Sony Vega SD set. To be honest, I think my 36" SD set looks damn good and the picture of KyleXY looks great on it. The SD feed doesn't look too good on my 55" HD set, but looks fantastic on my 36" standar def set. As another poster said, there are no massive FX or anything on this show as it's character driven. Maybe the HD novelty has worn off on me too since I've had an HD set since 2002 as well, but watching SD feeds on my 36" SD set is perfectly acceptable to me with most shows (except for LOST and HEROES).
But, I don't have an HD DVR, only an SD DVR. By the time we get the kids to bed, we have to watch recorded shows, never real time. That leaves us watching our 36" SD set 99% of the time. If I ever get an HD DVR through D* for my HD set downstairs, I'm sure I'll watch it 99% of the time. I just don't think Kyle XY is one of those MUST see shows in HD like a Lost or Heroes.
OK, you guys shamed me into watching it in SD, and I still enjoyed it. I even set up a season pass for it. And don't shoot me, but I also watched and then set up a pass for Greek, which follows Kyle. I thought it was kind of funny.
Anyway, come September those of us with D*TV won't have to settle for SD on these shows, hopefully.

Yeah; his happy place.

Wait, so his fake family wasn't telling the truth about the bath tub adiction? I feel so jaded now.... ;)
CPanther95 07-15-07, 12:04 PM I guess it's time to boot this thread to the non-HDTV forum and revise the title to allow ABC Family discussion - unless I'm not thinking of something.

I agree. Hopefully we can bring in back when ABC Family begins to broadcast it HD in 2008. :D
Tonight's episode certainly borrowed a page from Star Trek:TNG. Anyone who's watched TNG will know exactly what I mean.

Gee, and I was thinking the Dead Zone, where Johnny Smith touches something and has a holographic vision. :)
Yeah, DZ too. But I couldn't help thinking of that ep of ST:TNG where Data (struggling with his artificial existence) started having having those weird daydreams, and actually met his maker while having one.
Man, that felt like an obvious lift to me. *shrugs*
VisionOn 07-18-07, 12:15 AM I vaguely remembered that TNG episode but I liked the way it worked in Kyle. So far even thought his abilities are "out there" they all just seem within the realm of possibility. Seeing the future would be just too supernatural, but lucid memories, I can almost accept that.
I even liked the Dawson's Creek-esque storylines tonight. The Madacorp stuff still doesn't work that well for me. Especially after Primatech and HRG in Heroes. It just feels a bit tacked on and unconvincing.
TheWinstonWolf 07-20-07, 07:04 PM Yeah I have to agree. I'm really glad they haven't gone way too supernatural with his powers, and have stuck with things that least seem like they could be within the realm of possibility.
When is ABC Family going HD? Doesn't change whether I'm watching the show or not, but i'd still like to see...the more HD channels the better.

Last I read, sometime in early 2008.
TheWinstonWolf 07-24-07, 12:18 PM This last episode was less sci-fi, more teen drama...which is fine, i feel like the episodes are going to alternate with being heavy on scifi and heavy on dramatic elements. I'm sure next week there will be a declan and kyle meeting of the minds...
I felt it was a terrible filler episode. Horrible writing, waaay overly preachy....
kimxjj1 08-02-07, 01:22 PM Hi WMarkW,
Is your Toshiba 52HMX84 connected to a PC? Then how?
Thanks.

petergaryr 09-04-07, 08:44 AM I actually feel sorry for those who abandoned this series when ABC stopped showing the HD version. Last night's season finale was quite good...and the series has been compelling.
My daughter's staying current via iTunes. Maybe I'll catch up this weekend.

I think it would be worth your while.
What I've like about the show is that it has its mysteries, but they haven't strung things out unnecessarily. They have revealed many things...and yet there is enough more to keep me interested.
TheWinstonWolf 01-11-08, 11:21 AM Bumping thread, new episodes starting this monday at 8 on abc family...lots of stuff left hanging from the previous episode...should be a good ep.

I would say!
Just wish ABC Family had already gone HD.
DeeKaye07 01-11-08, 04:47 PM I think I read someplace that ABC Family will be running previously aired episodes of Kyle XY all day Monday, leading up to the premiere Monday evening at 8pm ET...
You can also watch episodes online now, on ABC Family's web site: http://abcfamily.go.com/abcfamily/path/section_Videos/page_Video
Can't wait to see the new season.
