The 1996-and-on end of the Polygram library was wrapped into USA Films. USA Films was gobbled up by Universal and eventually (with Good Machine) became Focus Features.
A longer answer than you wanted, but yeah. Universal, who themselves issued a DVD in '02.
Thanks
Waiting game right now I guess...!!!

I don't get it - you sold it because it's dual sided? It sounds like it's an important film to you. What on Earth makes a dual-sided DVD so bad that you'd rather not have the film?
I just don't understand, sorry

The DVD transfer for this film sucks. If I recall, it is either 4x3 letterboxed or a very noisy, low rez anamorphic title.

A Director's Cut was never rumored....ever.
A special edition has been for quite some time with most of the Criterion special features. it has been released in other parts of the world but even that PQ isn't stunning.

It was an ok film but the ending is just completely preposterous. I also recall the PQ being among the worst I had ever seen.

The DTS laserdisc has a better transfer. Not superlative by any stretch of the imagination! But superior to the standard DVD that I viewed. (And the DTS audio doesn't hurt either.)
