I used to use the scene when they're leaving the bank to show off my sound system. Great movie, I didn't buy the latest DVD that came out in the last year, but I'd buy it again on HD DVD. :)

The misleading thread titles are a bit out of control. I honestly thought that WB had announced Heat when I read that.

This is going to sound like a thread crap....but....

The recent rash of "When are they going to release X?" Or, "Do you think they are going to release X?" really don't add much to the discussion. The possibility exists for any title to be released, so unless there is some great inside rumor or list of titles that a studio releases the discussions are rather empty.

Just My 2 cents

Last I checked they were still looking for a proper master for Heat. That was why the 2005 SE was still using the same master as the original release. This was on an old list of movies from WB saying they needed to find a better master first before they would release it.

I agree. Unless the poster can provide a link showing a title has actually been anounced, or some other information suggesting it is about to be released (not a link to some "wish for" on another forum), I think these threads should be avoided. They're just clutter.

One of the best films of the 90's. How about a Michael Mann box set of Last of The Mohicans, Heat, Collateral and Miami Vice in HD?

Miami Vice has already been announced for the most part. It is on the coming soon list on the HD DVD page and Universal made mention of it awhile back. The only other title that isn't from a BD only studio is Collateral, which was Dreamworks, which is distributed by Paramount. But no word on DW titles yet. I would love to see Collateral on HD DVD though. And I will love to see the other Mann titles in HD later providing the transfers are good.

Yes. I have the 05' SE and the video isn't any different than the original release. It would be nice if Warner could get a pristine print and give us a great HD DVD. Until they get a new print I would hold off on buying the HD DVD if it ever gets released.

There are just a bit fewer artifacts on the 05 release, but it's the same transfer - I was so disappointed about that. Hopefully Warner will do a real 1080p transfer for this title.

Hopefully they'll correct the color shift that occurs about halfway through the movie... I't really bad because is occurs in the middle of a shot.

BTW... Bring back the LD mix, that was true demo material. When I was working at an independent home theater store, we used robbery scene from Heat and the opening sequence from from Stange Days to show off the abilities of a near perfectly designed 5.1 mixes... Yes, we actually used R-Rated material as long as kids were not present and the customer was not offended...

http://media.movieweb.com/galleries/468/352/lo/bw7.jpg jeez i got HEAT DTS japanese edition and havent opened it yet !! :)
might do that
the HEAT region 1 DD is not of the same caliber the AC3 on the ld. diffrent mix likely or recorded level.
i remember how long we all awaited the laserdisc after the 1995 theatrical release.

the Japanese DVD with DTS is killer, open it now and watch it

the shootout in DTS is enough make it worth it to own that Jap DVD (and no that slang is not derogatory, I love Japanese people and their culture)

Heat isn't even on the pre-released lists from Warner, so I doubt seeing it for a long while

but maybe Warner will read this post, also we could see how good a movie of this length fits on a 30 gigger, there wouldn't be any extra's if it is possible, it is also 2.35:1 which would help some

Among WB titles, I am more anxious for Heat to come out on HDDVD than I am for The Matrix...

Definately in my top 10 of movies watches over and over again. A timeless classic. I just rented Miami Vice and was dismayed that Michael Mann would put his name on that one. It was thoroughly average at best. Heat and Collateral were his best films to date. I'd buy both in a heartbeat.

I first saw Heat when it was just released on VHS. I loved it then, and I still love it to this day. Even after seeing it dozens of times. And I would still feel the same, even if the "shootout", weren't there. It's just a good movie, with so many famous people. Even 'The Ripper' from Last Action Hero is in Heat. He's the guy, in the wheelchair, that sells Neil (De Niro) the bank job.

Oh, yeah, and I would definitely buy Heat in HD. :)

the DD on the laserdisc has more punch than the dd on the dvd.

I am glad I am not the only one who finds the laserdisc audio far superior to the DVDs. At the beginning of the movie when Val Kilmar is sitting in the big truck and the camera zooms in on him through the windshield, there is a radio station playing in the background that leads perfectly into the robbery scene.

On the DVD, that fulness is missing, and IMO completely ruins that scene. After hearing the laserdisc audio, I was so disapointed with the DVD for this movie.
