It will interesting to see if the sport gets faker on HD

Did I miss something? USA isn't in HD. Smackdown could do it on UPN, but I doubt it will happen. Saturday Night may be a possibility. If they could rent the cameras for cheap, then I could see it happening. I think the most likely scenario is PPV HD.

its pretty stupid because they do film in HD, yet they don't broadcast it. i guess they are preparing for the future with HDdvd, blu ray

Wait... wrestling is still on TV?

Is the Junk Yard Dog still fighting? That guy rocked.

Also, Ricky the Dragon Steamboat. He was also fairly good. Until Randy the Machoman Savage broke his neck with the bell. That wasn't cool. Not cool at all.

That brings back memories!! :D

The last I heard on WWE in HD, is that they are currently in the testing process of their equipment. WWE RAW, SmackDown, and ECW most likely won't be in HD for awhile, but their PPV's will be the first to go HD.

But if the shows ever do decide to go HD, Universal HD/CW HD is probably where they are headed.

WWE does NOT tape in HD. They are from what I understand considering the jump probably in late 2007.

WRONG!!!! Everything is HD on TNT-HD!!!!!!!

And it's as real as the WWE wrestling matches!!!!!

Southern2356

That maybe so for TNT-HD but that being said the truck that produces WWE televison events is Standard Def. Any WWE event would need up-converted unless they would move to a new production truck. Which is not happening before mid to late next year from what I have heard.

I guess somewhere I am missing what you are trying to say. I hope I clarified myself.

Since USA doesnt have a HD channel and UPN is crap I would love to see some wrestling in HD on UniversalHD. UniversalHD is in desperate need of some new programing anyway.

They could record the matches in HD and then show them on Saturday or some other day later in the week. Plenty of time to edit the HD material and send it to the appropriate broadcaster. They could also show more graphic (sexy) material on UniversalHD since they allow that sort of content. I dont watch wrestling anymore but seeing it offered in HD would get my interest up. Also more sexy(non tease) material would be welcome.

Everything (outside of the Wizard of Oz) gets stretched to "HD" on TNT-HD even without steroids.

I'll take your word for as I did not dispute that TNT-HD pushes everything up to HD begin with. My point is the originating program from WWE would be SD. It would have to be upconverted to HD to broadcast on TNT-HD.

This is correct. Though I hear from the Engineers at NEP Supershooters that WWE is getting serious about building an HD mobile production truck. The late 2007 time frame sounds about right.

SS-22 their current truck, is one of the best in the industry for SD, so expect a very high quality HD production when their new truck rolls.

WWE has always been at the forefront of top-notch production quality. I expect when they do make the jump to HD, it will be one of the best on TV.

As for why they would be on TNT-HD...that just confuses me? Why would they be on TNT HD when they are in no way affiliated with TNT, or Turner for that matter?

It was a joke. TNT stretches a lot of their programming and calls it HD. They want you to believe everything on the station is in HD. From there comes the joke that if the WWE was on TNT, it would be in HD right now, since TNT says EVERYTHING on their station is in HD even if it's just a stretched upconvert.

Why I felt the need to explain this, I have no idea.

Universal should push for the WWE to go HD. Wrestling fans are a rabid bunch and they may push a lot of cable companies to add the channel to their network.

What I want to know is WHY is it on NBC at 8pm on Saturday night?!

It's called marketing and ratings. NBC/Uni owns NBC, owns USA (where Raw is), owns SciFi (where ECW is)

(and also owns the damn best program on TV - which is on the SciFi channel - Battlestar Galactica)...

Thus they can cross-promote and cross-market.

(I'm just waiting for any of the BSG cast to do promos for ECW 'cause it's on the same network :D )

The current broadcast truck that is used for taping WWE TV events is not HD. Regradless of the network the originating material is still standard def. Actully your wrong, they did use a HD Truck for last weeks RAW (However it was uplinked in SD)

For this weeks raw they used a SD truck and used Fiber to get it to the USA Network (which is why there was no WWE Unlimited feature on the Internet, since Stamford could not tap into the Fiber feed from San Antonio)

WWE RAW in HD= I don't particularly care if USA is in HD or not as TSN is :D

Smackdown will be on CW (which is allready HD).

I disagree with the toughts that only PPV will be HD... If the WWE invests in a fully loaded top of the line HD truck, then they should maximize there investment and show everything in HD. How else are you going to entice people to pay 50$ for the HD PPV... not with SD Raw & SD Smackdown that's for sure.

Since this is looking like late 2007... Hopefully, McMahon invests in 1080P/60 cameras so he can make big bucks selling BluRay Wrestling :D

I beg to differ. They use only one truck in the United States and it is SD. All WWE programming originating from venues in the US are SD. The truck company and the truck was mentioned in an earlier post. The only exception in not using this truck is when they are over seas.

What I want to know is WHY is it on NBC at 8pm on Saturday night?!

Back when Hulk Hogan was around they use to have Saturday Night Main Events on NBC. It had PPV type matches but for free. They decided to bring it back to make money. As much as people hate wrestling it is doing well on cable. Raw is one of the most watched cable shows that exists. So they figure they will also make a quick buck on NBC.

NooooooooooooooooOoooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!! :(

This is the end then. The Score has a HUGE ticker and the wrestling looks/is cropped which is why I don't watch Smackdown on that channel even tough they actually air it 1 day early on Thursday evenings as opposed to UPN on Friday Evenings. This is a disaster for Canadian RAW fans + how many people actually get the Score channel VS people that get TSN... This cannot/will not be good for ratings. This is a BAD move.

The reason they are not jumping on HD yet is they (the WWE) knows most of their audience cannot afford them yet.

When the average country joe has HD, the WWE will be in HD until than don't hold your breath waiting.

I know a guy who watches WWE on a 13 black and white TV, seems to be pretty common down here in the south.

This wasn't actually WWE's decision as TSN didn't renew their deal with WWE because they are taking on Monday Night Football to show. According to TSN President, he said that it wouldn't be fair to WWE to bounce them around on their schedule.

Just a small update on this front

At the WWE 2007 shareholders meeting yesterday, Vince McMahon addressed the possibility of WWE being broadcast in High-Definition television. McMahon said WWE will be going to High-Definition within the next year and they have tested it. He said that the product looks amazing under that format but they don't want to be too far ahead of the curve because that costs you money, while being too far behind gives the impression you aren't on the cutting edge. McMahon said they feel they are dead on in terms of timing right now.

Maybe WWE should think about improving their SD feeds now. In my opinion the Smackdown feed has marginal quality.

That probably depends on your local CW affiliate.... especially if they are recording it and airing it at another time.....

WWE Will Go HD In 2008

Chief Vince McMahon reveals plans in investors meeting.

By Phillip Swann

Washington, D.C. (May 12, 2007) -- World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) will begin producing its weekly wrestling shows in High-Definition TV in early 2008.

WWE Chairman Vince McMahon revealed the company's high-def plans in an investors meeting this month following issuing its first quarter report.

McMahon said the company has been testing high-def for some time, but has waited to launch his popular wrestling shows in HD due to production costs and technical reasons.

The company produces the shows RAW, SmackDown! and ECW.

McMahon told the investors meeting that the high-def trials "have looked great."

Pro wrestling is the one of the few popular sports still not available in high-def.
