Anybody seen or heard anything about this bad boy.

4500 Lumen WXGA Single Chip DLP
2000:1 CR
Dual Lamp 300W UHP lamps
Liquid Cooled Optical engine.

$12,000 MSRP but street looks to be around half that.

This could make 200" very affordable.

See link for more information: PT-DW5000U (http://catalog2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ModelDetail?storeId=11201&catalogId=13051&itemId=97738&catGroupId=14631&surfModel=PT-DW5000U&displayTab=O)

It is much brighter though dramatically inferior in real-word CR and producing not nearly as clean images as the Mitsubishi WD2000U for over triple the price... and that is without the lens!!!... (figure at least a couple grand more for the lens). The WD2000U rules by very, very far.

Cool thanks for the input.

Just would like to add that the PT-DW5000UL (The L designates model with lens vs. PT-DW5000U without lens)does come with a lens and street prices are about twice that of the WD2000U. I don't doubt however for a minute that the Mits is the better projector for HT, and certainly a better value.

I am trying to decide between this projector, the D3500U or the Mitsubishi WD2000U. I currently have the WD2000U in possession, but not sure if it will do the trick. I need to throw an image on a 25foot screen from 60 feet away.

25 foot -- WOW, now that's a real home theater :D

For that size, lumens rule !!!

You could break the bank and go for a high gain screen to use your Mits.

I have seen this unit. It is a light cannon, yes, but the performance is not up to spec with other current offerings in my opinion (and as others have said). Plus the thing is LOUD, I mean, at the end of the runway with a 747 taking off loud.

Jason,
The problem is, I cannot for the life of me find another projector that can compete with the specs of this Panasonic DW5000U.

4500 lumens DLP WXGA for $4,600 bucks. What projector out there can touch this right now??

Sound is not a problem considering this is for a film festival in a real-live movie theater. Surely isn't louder then those tank-size 35mm film projectrs that feed from 5' reels.

If you can point m to a better alternative, I may give you sponsorship credit ! *smile*

Well you are caught in a pickle...this unit is plenty bright so a large screen. + But the unit has poor readworld contrast. - The other alternatives are WAY more money, or not as bright. - So, based on the fact that this is probably going to be demoed to random people who don't really care about the best possible picture, it may just be the ticket.

Thanks Jason. I'll be going to the theater tomorrow to test the demo Mits WD2000U that I have. Everybody seems to love the Mitsubishi unit and hopefully it will look good in a totally dark theater. If not, I will have to go with the Panasonic D3500U or the DW5000U.

The D3500U is 3500lumens @ XGA while the DW5000U is 4500lumens @ WXGA. (and $2400 difference in price!) The wxga mits would be perfect but it's only 3000 lumens and I don't know if that will cut the mustard. it's priced in the middle of these two.

It shouldn't be this hard! *sad face*

I use the Panasonic with very good results. See my application at bugflix.com
