View Full Version : Looking for Samsung SPH710AE Bulb
Greetings. I have been unable to find a replacement bulb for the Samsung SPH710AE. I can locate one for the 700, so I have two questions. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Is the 700ae bulb the same as the 710? I currently have 800 trouble free hours (fingers crossed) and wanted to have a bulb in stock just in case I need it.
Found it. For anyone interested

kiwishred 07-18-06, 06:33 PM That is still a different part number from the H710 manual, eg:
Owners manual (H710) BP47-00010A
Samsung parts (H710) BP96-01551A
Samsung parts (H700) BP90-00213A
Parts Express (H700) BP90-00213A
I think I will pull my H710 lamp tonight and see if it has a part number on it.
But, can't complain about the price direct from Samsung. Good find :)
I would be interested to know if the lamp hours number listed on the info screen gets reset to zero when a new lamp is inserted. I know then number doesn't change when one used lamp is swapped for another used one.

Robert_S 07-18-06, 08:55 PM Wow... that is an incredible price!
azjetski 07-18-06, 09:33 PM That's got to be one of the lowest prices I have seen for projector lamps. Good find Joe.

kiwishred 07-18-06, 11:31 PM "I know what your thinking, should I buy now or wait till my 300hrs/90days are up ? To tell you the truth in all the excitement of actually being able to start up my H710 I've lost track of how long its been. But you have to ask yourself one question, do I feel lucky? Well do ya punk?"
;)
Well, since its from Samsung parts, I can only assume it right. I have 830 hours on mine so I went ahead and ordered one to be on the safe side. Football season is fast approaching, and I'm sure that if goes, it'll go at the worst possible moment. While I have a crowd over for the game!!
emailists 07-19-06, 10:54 PM The bulb assembly looks quite a bit more simple than other bulbs I have seen. Maybe someone can comment what optics, etc have been kept out of the bulb housing to get it to this price.
Also - Samsung told me that the 2 year warrenty covers the bulb as well. I questioned them on this remarking that most manufactureers have a 90 day - and asked again are they sure of this.
What answers to bulb warrenty have other people been getting? At this point I dont trust anything Samsung customer service says to be true. (based on my experience anyway)

Well the manual does say 90 days... but hey if you could get them to replace it in 2 years that would be cool.

Wow--what a find. I was expecting to pay at least $250, and ordered one immediately. It certainly looks like the right one given the search functions on the site. Thanks for passing this along--I'm already at 400 hours (still on theater mode) but I'm also wary of being without the PJ during football season!

kiwishred 08-19-06, 02:51 AM FWIW, for those that like to see what is under the hood, here are back and front views of the lamp pulled from my H710:

http://mysite.verizon.net/kiwishred/HTS/H710LampFront.JPG
The outer housing (the bit you see when opening up the lamp door) is labeled SPH700, HC #1, BP61-00483A. This does not match any of the part numbers I posted earlier.
The inner housing (clamp) is labeled BP61-00316A and the frame is labeled BP61-00316A2. I think these are just component numbers for various parts of the overall assembly.
There are various markings on the lamp itself including:
UHP 250W 1.35, Philips, Made in Belgium, 101556847, 138DM67, 10640A
The rectangular port on the right side is made of the clearest glass I have every seen. In fact I was tempted to touch it to see if there really was any glass there but I resisted that urge !

Hey Joekoz,
Since you're at 800 hours, what mode are you using? I'm at just over 400, and still using theater mode, but am wondering when it's worth firing up the brighter lamp mode. Given this bulb price, there may be less to lose at the higher intensity (though I believe the fan noise does increase). Just curious about how you're approaching this, what others with higher numbers of hours are also doing.

Well, I got to about 850 hrs on theatre mode and then the bulb dimmed significantly. So I switched to the bright mode. My Sammy is now dead, may she rest in peace. My 710 started having the dreaded start up issue. I replaced the projector with a BENQ PE 8720. The spare bulb I purchased for the Sammy is for sale if anyone is interested.

Ouch. It practically hurts to read this. Given that I have one spare now ordered, I don't think I'll be investing in more spare bulbs given the failure rate. I would have thought you'd be out of the woods given that bulb time. It just makes me very nervous--I had been a bit more at ease with the notion that since I got this far (400+ hrs) that I might have been lucky with this unit (since it seems that most fail within the first 100 hours, at least anecdotally).
One more important question--how does the BenQ stack up against the Samsung? (Just in case I'm forced to look around again).

Thats a good question, and one I've been asked before. But let me back up for a second. I not only purchased a spare bulb, but also invested in a calibration for the Sammy. I had David Abrahms from Joe Kane Productions down to ISF, so the image the 710 produced was stunning.
My BenQ, without a doubt, has superior black levels. Skin tones are off, but I'm watching it right now without any tweaks other than user controls. I will be able to do a fair comparison of the two at the end of the month. I once again will have David down to do an ISF calibration for me. So far, the peace of mind is worth the difference in price. I too thought that I was out of the woods based on the time I had on the Sammy, but that was not to be. Hope you have better luck than I did.
floridabowler 01-07-07, 10:44 AM Hi, everyone, I am a new member here who just completed installation of a home theater upgrade that includes the Samsung SP-H710AE. I'm curious about a couple of comments above. First, did anyone actually purchase and try the bulb in question, & is it, in fact, the correct replacement? Secondly, what is this I'm hearing about a dead Samsung with a "start up problem"? I purchased this projector because of the Joe Kane connection and assumed it would be everything I hoped. Do I have something unfortunate to look forward to?
emailists 01-07-07, 03:53 PM I have an extra brand new 710 bulb if anyone needs one - PM me.

I was hoping to buy one of these unit too based on reviews but after searching and reading of start up issues, returns, defective units, and the fact that AV science is no longer selling these units, my bubble has popped and I've backed off. It seems your best chance for a good unit is one made after July/06. I'm printing out the sammy threads to try and understand it all. There are some positive users but most have seemed to exchange their units and moved on...good luck with yours as I REALLY wanted one too.

Part number: BP96-01551A or BP90-00213A ???

There is a huge difference of price between the two...
Is your latest 710 still working?
simarddominic 01-31-07, 03:49 PM Is your latest 710 still working?
Yes... but recently it started to fire up only after 2 or 3 try when it is cold. :(
It has 650 hours on the meter.
The picture on the other hand is always incredible.
Since I like really the PQ that it produces, this time I will make it repair under guarantee instead of exchanging it to be sure to have one which is safe.

I keep mine powered on all the time. I turn it off by the remote.. The lamp is off. I just don't phyically flip the "off" switch. Do you know if it will hurt the PJ by keeping it on?

You should be fine in standby mode. I live in the desert and my projector is in my AZ room [converted patio] and durring the summer I do not cool that room unless I am using my projector. Non summer months I leave mine in standby all the time, but when the temp in that room gets over 90 degrees I shut the main off also.

Thanks, I'm in DFW and my room can get in the mid 80's, so I'll keep that in mind.
