Well, it has been a very busy day for me (I think the Blu-ray camp has been throwing work at me to keep me down) but I managed to do some damage. I was hampered by the fact that there's really one 1 store (BB) reasonably close that has a somewhat good stock and even theirs was slim pickin's so I wasn't able to complete my 20 titles for my father (although I wound up ordering more than I intended for myself).

Did the price match today too, I wish I had more places to choose from. I went to CC and asked if they had them. They pointed me to a section that had about 12 HD DVD and 10 Blu-ray titles.

I can get behind the PS3 release day coordinated buy. That would actually be a great idea. The Sony standalone player won't make a big enough splash to warrant a coordinated buy, but having tons of HD software sold on PS3 launch day might send a little message to the studios.

I just bought one. It would have been more if Amazon had We were soldiers and Aeon Flux. But Ray is my 31st HD DVD so I have most of the other titles. I do have 10 more titles on order over the rest of the Summer.

Just out of curiosity, do preorders count for an 8/8 purchase? They shouldn't really, the studios don't see them as sales until the disc is sold. Amazon will see them, but that just means they'll stop taking orders sooner, or ship them out later.

I picked up 5 at my local BB. They had the TIVO box stacked on top of the Toshiba player so I moved them :). They do not have any players in stock and the one on the shelf is not connected to anything. (Don't worry there BD unit was pluged into a cheap blurry LCD)

Universal will be releasing their first day and date, and all the Fast and the Furious movies.

If Warner were to launch Batman Begins, Goblet of Fire, or V for Vendetta on that day (or something of that caliber), then it would be a good day with so many releases.

November 17th is when the PS3 launches I think, and November 14th is the Tuesday before that. That might not be such a bad day, although either would be fine. If the lineup is incredible, I'd say that Tuesday, otherwise, waiting for Friday to usher in the weekend and go crazy on HD DVD movies would be fine.

I suggest that at the end of the month (hopefully by that time Warner will have announced their releases for September, as they seem to be doing them with at least 3 weeks time now), someone make a poll on whether we should have 2 more "coordinated purchase days" (Sept. 26th or if a better one rolls along around that time AND the PS3 week), or just one (PS3 week it should be in that case).

Next group buy definitely has to be on Playstation 3's launch (tentative 11/17/06). If there is any time to make an impact with sales figures, that is the day.

Unfortunately I only was able to pick up "Ray" despite my prior commitment to three titles. The Best Buy that I had arranged in-store pickup at (W. Paterson, NJ) had no one manning the pickup window and I stood there for 25 minutes before giving up and cancelling via my cell phone an order I had essentially already paid for. They just didn't have the service to hand me the item.

I already sent a email to Universal Canada saying how satisfyed i was witch their HD DVD product. Some Girl (don't remember her name) said thanks in the name of the company and keep looking for more HD DVD from them (usual reply) but still they've replied to me wish was nice..

I agree with the November timeline for the next AVS Purchase Day. A lot of people have already preordered the Universal titles slated until October, so we should give them time to announce more titles. I figure November and December is when the bulk of the more popular titles will be coming out for Universal and Warner.

Don't forget, all of the studios will be watching QRT 4 sales of hardware and software. Hopefully our efforts get some studios to second guess exclusive support of Blu-Ray.

I bought the RCA player and three discs (Rumor Has It, Assault on Precinct 13, and Syriana) at WalMart last Wednesday (8/2). On the 8th, I bought Apollo 13, Jarhead, and Serenity. On the 9th, I bought Constatine, Training Day, and Perfect Storm.

So far, I have seen RHI, AP13, A13, and Constantine. For sound quality Apollo 13 was the best and for best picture quality, Rumor Has It was best - I suppose that is because I am most impressed by vivid colors and incredible skin detail.

Thanks to those who thought up this superbuy and all those who went out and supported this fine format.

I used 8/8 to stretch the budget and buy 8 HD DVDs that I would not have picked up anytime soon.

Of course, I'll be buying titles as they come out (as I hope everyone will). But I'll definitely be stetching the budget again and buying several more for the coordinated purchase day that comes up around the PS3 launch.

I agree with you. Movie studios are more interested in total sales figures; I doubt they use Amazon ranking system to perform their financial analysis. I buy movies as soon they are available and I believe this is the best way to show support.

I agree with you. Movie studios are more interested in total sales figures; I doubt they use Amazon ranking system to perform their financial analysis. I buy movies as soon they are available and I believe this is the best way to show support.
I bet they use the first week sales to project how well each title will sell though, which could influence how much support they show in the immediate future. That's why I think it's important to buy each title right away as it's released, instead of waiting to buy it later.

Plus pre-ordering when it becomes available is usually at a discounted price, plus lets these places not is they should increase stock etc before the actual release

This is also a good point in favor of buying when they get released.

My 3 disk purchase from Amazon.com ended up "undeliverable" for some reason and was sent back by the Post Office. Amazon refunded the purchase, but I just don't understand how the same address I've been using for 5 years with other orders at Amazon.com didn't work this time. Take my 3 off the tally for this go around, I think for our next mass purchase day I'll try someone other than Amazon.

Do you happen to have multiple shipping address's saved in your amazon account? Maybe it went to another address, I had that happen to me on one order even though I could swear I selected my proper address for the shipping

LOL i just saw Unleashed and Animal House localy here at 34.99$CAD+15%tx (about 40$) ... i paid about 27$CAD tax free, including Express Shipping from Amazon! LOL since i ordered 3 of them!

Tom: I had 2 of the exact same address in amazon's address book, same address I've been using for years. I even ordered off my wishlist so that it would basically force me to use the address (not that I needed to be forced to). All in all, a very bad amazon experience.

I ordered at about 12:30 AM in the Central time zone. Is it Pacific time, or do they have another system that goes by the business day?

I think Amazon's computers are calibrated to Pacific time.

I still haven't received my orders that was shipped on August 7th, yet I received the order that was shipped on August 10th was received 3 days later. The CSR told me they can't re-ship the order or refund my money until August 28th. :(

I think it's time to do another Coordinated AVS HD DVD purchase. Lots of folks with new A2's and 360 addons from Santa that can now participate!

My problem is finding pre-orders that I haven't already purchased! I still have $200 in amazon gift certs waiting for something to buy! Hurry up, amazon, and list Departed, Happy Feet and others.

this only works if there are lots of titles to be bought. So far, there are only 5 must-buy titles for me on HD DVD for this year and 10 must-buy titles for BD (based on the 2007 CES-announced title list).

I won't argue that I'd love to see more titles. However, I've only got 29 at the moment (3 of which I purchased today) and there are still several I'd like to have.

Certainly most people have not already purchased everything they want. :eek:
