Yesterday, I took back my Samsung 30" open box 3082 since it was plagued with purple spots, ghosting, dark spots, and horrible geometry. Instead, I now have a Sony KV-27FS170 and am in love with its PQ. After adjusting everything perfectly in the SM using Avia and Kentechs thread, the TV is PERFECTLY calibrated and is just plain awesome. BUT, my ONLY gripe with it is, there seems to be a decent amount of flickering present when there is white text or lines on a black background. This is noticeable when in various game menus on the 360. I have all the velocity scanning/modulation crap turned off in the SM (So I think anyway) and can not seem to get rid of the shakiness of the white lines. Is there any flicker filter that I can adjust from the SM? Will better cable work for the 360? (Currently my only component connected to the TV through stock component cables.) Also no matter what I do, text does not seem as clear and crisp as it could be which I believe is also caused by the flickering. Thanks for any help as I am VERY happy with the PQ of this set and being able to allieviate the shakiness of text/lines on black backgrounds will be a blessing.

I don't know the answer, but FWIW, I've noticed that problem on my 27FS170.

I bought the 27FS170 last night and when I calibrated it using Digital Video Essentials I noticed that exact flickering of white lines on dark background. On the crosshatch test pattern it was flickering intensely. The picture looks normal otherwise and doesn't seem to flicker during regular programming.
Did anyone come up with an explanation and/or fix?

Zac

I don't think that issue can be corrected. FWIW, I did make some unrelated changes to my deflection settings recently. RBLK was set way too high on my TV. Also, I don't see any reason that VBLK should be 3 instead of 2, so I changed that.
