I thought that I'd start a self help and support group thread for people who have found a dead or stuck pixel on their high definition display and have decided to live with it for one reason or another.

In my case, I recently purchased a Sharp LC-37D90U 37" LCD TV. One of the first things that I did after setting up this TV is to attach the display to my PC to run UndeadPixel. Lo and behold I found a single pixel defect! :(

The pixel is dead on the white, green, yellow and blue screens. The pixel is blue on the black screen. The pixel only works on the red screen. I don't know whether this is technically stuck or dead. I have run UndeadPixel for over 2 hours along with various massage techniques and, unfortunately, it has not fixed the pixel.

It sucks, but the reality is that I don't notice the pixel defect from beyond 2 feet. On the other hand, I did spend a tad under $2K believing that a premium price point assured a defect-free unit.

I have thought about exchanging the unit, but since I purchased the TV from an online retailer, I would incurr shipping costs. Therefore, I have decided to keep the TV and live with my problem. I have come to accept that out of over 6 million TFTs, there is bound to be at least one defect.

Are you living with a pixel defect? Feel free to share your stories in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Do not suffer in silence, you are not alone. :)

I'll be honest with you man, you should be thrilled that you only have that one dead pixel. That sounds like a typical experience, and frankly a lot of people likely would have more. Your's is also a very minor pixel issue, as you can't even see it from beyond 2 feet. In other words it's meaningless.

I can totally understand your feelings of dissapointement, as I used to feel the exact same way about similar things. However, I can assure you over time you'll forget about it, and in a few months you laugh when you think back to how much it bothered you now.

Got two stuck pixels on my new Mitsu LT-46131...they are only visible up close, and invisible from my viewing couch. Even though I can't see them, I know they are there, and it bugs me. CC is going to deliver a replacement set on Wednesday, so we'll see how it goes.

Dead pixels (sub-pixels actually) are dead transistors. Once they go, they are gone. Today's LCDs are now "normally" (broken) OFF. This means that the dot is black on "lit".

There is no fix for a dead dot.

Wash it with Jscreenfix for a few hours and see if that helps you.

lol :D

I myself have seen bad pixels come back to life. So much for the "once they're dead, they're gone" theory.

I bought times ago Samsung 243T HD monitor, 24"@1920x1200 from an online outlet.

Connected it, and here it is - dead pixel in the middle, of permanent blue kind.

Dead pixels in computer monitors are serious because they ARE visible. My disappointment was great and attention really focusing on this dead beast.

Over time however, doing real stuff I gradually stopped noticing it and later forgot it completely.

Then, after 6 months or so, I reminded it and started looking where it is. To my amazement I COULD NOT find it, it disappeared: My dead pixel was resurrected and this was glorious heavenly wonder. The pleasure is of great immense: All 6 milion subpixels alive, up and kicking! The only problem is that my monitor is now 3 generations back, PQ and CR-wise those pixels are from Stone Age :D

And I have heard people think the world is flat. A dead field effect transistor is a dead FET. If it can be fixed, it wasn't dead, was it. If the problem is a trapped charge that is keeping the transistor from shutting off, then it is not bring them back. Some software can be used to pull the charge out of the transistor.

Just so we are clear about this....
