Anyone heard any rumors on how rockstar is going to one-up themselves with the release of GTA 4? How can they possibly improve? BTW, Can't wait to get the upgraded PS3! It'll look great with my new HDTV!!!!!

HDMI 1.3 support :) Both systems have plenty of power for some amazing games though, I have no doubts about that :D

In all seriousness though, I hope GTA 4 sticks greatly to the formula used for GTA 3 and San Andreas. I want more of the same in this case.

That, plus the 'sandbox' game is not original anymore as it is incorporated into many genres. I would love a nextgen Red Dead Revolver/Gun/GTA clone. Gun was a good start minus the port on 360. I am a child of the 90's so I really kept it real like GTA:SA :D . Ahh to be young and stupid again.

As for the power differences between the 2 systems, that will probaly not be apparent until a few years roll on by, like '08 or so when technical/creative limits are reached. I mentioned elsewhere that Madden will be the equalizer this year and next IMHO. I firmly believe the devs will throw bones on both sides of the fence.

I totally agree, San Andreas was one game that was really worth the money, i spent ages on that game. It was huge. Even the "cheats' were to the point. :) I think we will get our fix when playstation 3 hits the market. And i also cant wait for the next " Alone in the Dark". :D

What that means is that Like Half Life 2 you will be able to download more scenarios that branch off whatever the original story is going to be for GTA4. Most likely more missions those types of things from XBOX Live. This feature is what they announced as being exclusive eto 360 with the PS3 you get whatever game it is going to be and no extra content to download or purchase unless it is some time exclusive we don't know. Not much details has came on what the Episodic content will be about but that confirms whitch version I plan on getting.

I was just kidding. But they really didn't make clear what episodic content was at all, I think its fair to speculate it could be like HL2. It could also be like ES:IV paying $5 to play a side quest.. Time will tell.

I would 100% guess it is going to cost some money whatever that cost maybe. But I do hope it will be frequent I don't want to wait 4 or 5 months down the road for episodic content when I will probably be burnt out of the game by then. I guess what got alot of us excited about episodic content when they talked about it back in 01 about the potentials of XBOX Live at the time. They gave examples how developers would be able to do that on a monthly bases but we have yet to see somthing like that go mainstream. Also, what happen with stadium view and customized maps. Please Please Please let them add this as a feature in Halo 3 :cool:

I would think that 360 will get new mission threads to complete. If the 2 games are identical outside of the extra 360 content, Sony could be in trouble. People who own both systems would opt for the 360 version and people may buy a system based on this. I know 3 people who bought PS2 just for GTA (crazy if you ask me)

I don't have the link but it was already confirmed that the PS3 was getting its own episodic content shortly after the annoucement of the 360 getting episodic content.

Maybe the PS3 version does not need downloadable content, thanks to the increased size of the Blu-Ray Disc. It could in fact have locked levels that we open, or just have more levels initially.

Its not more powerful then the 360. They are almost identical in terms of graphical capability. The PS3 might be minutely better but its barely able to be seen. I own both a Wii and a 360 so I love games in general and I'm not a fanboy of any system. I will purchase a PS3 when a game I feel good enough comes out for it. (Probably God of War 3) The HDMI connection is a big plus for the system. (I already own a stand alone Blu-Ray player as you can see in my sig so that doesn't matter to me) It has great potential I'm just waiting for it to cash in on some of its potential before I cash in on it.

FX channel had the countdown on their channel for like 20 minutes, it just showed "IV Trailer" and the countdown clock. I thought it was going to go on until they showed the new trailer. I don't know if anyone else notice that it was probably around midnight to 1am centeral time(guessing).

It starts out with a train like the one in GTA3. It looks like it's USA. Then there is a beautiful rendered
blue car with shadow. The pedestrians look realistic and has it's own AI.

It looks like Chicago - New York style and the mood is grimmy.

Graphics aren't that impressive, but I'm confident there's a reason for that. Sandbox games would be kind of impossible to make the graphics look like Gears of War.

It looks gorgeous. The characters have the same stylized look (which I like) as in the previous games so they won't be all that impressive. But the enviroment is amazing!

I like all of the little details stuck in the city such as posters for "America's Next Top Hooker" a movie poster titled "So I Slept With Your Mom" and of course products like "e-cola". It will be fun just running around looking and junk. :D

This is still Liberty City, not the big apple, as much as it's meant to look like it is. So I doubt it's going to have the same layout as the city that inspired it. Hopefully a different Liberty City than GTA 3 though! :)

That's an amazing comparison. I still can't figure why Rockstar Games is going this way

What the hell did I just watch? That was the BIG trailer we've all been waiting for? There wasn't a single bit of gameplay in this thing.

You guys do know that Rockstar themselves said this would not be some brief teaser trailer, right? Well, that's all this was. 1 minute of cutscenes to me is a teaser trailer. I know a lot of people were expecting way more than this. Here is the actual article saying so.

Since the countdown to the trailer has begun, there has been much debate and worrying around the internets as to whether it would just be a brief teaser containing only a few glances of the game. According to this article posted at GamesRadar.com yesterday, it will be anything but.

"The official trailer for Grand Theft Auto IV is only a few days away as of this writing, and publisher Rockstar has promised that it won't just be some infuriatingly quick teaser. Instead, it'll offer up the first substantial look into what the game is all about, and internet speculation over what that might be has kicked the rumor mill into high gear."


Don't get me wrong, the graphics were phenominal, but come on. I can't believe people think this was great considering the fact we were told this would be much more than what they showed.

I've been mulling over this tag line, "Things will be different" all day now. In the trailer he talks about all the bad things he's done in the past tense. And then says, "Maybe here, things will be different".

Maybe a hint that GTA 4 will be a lot more open ended and allow for other options than just being the bad guy?

I know it's far too early to tell, but the best part of San Andreas was all the off roading and the secret stuff you could find. Gonna be hard to include that in "NYC" unless it allows us to travel to "upstate NY."

Why couldn't they do that? Are you trying to say there is no open space NYC?

This is still Liberty City, not the big apple, as much as it's meant to look like it is. So I doubt it's going to have the same layout as the city that inspired it. Hopefully a different Liberty City than GTA 3 though! :)

BD's right...on the back of the large cargo ship shown toward the end, it says "Liberty City". Of course I could easily be wrong, the boat could have just docked from Liberty City now that I think of it.

Also to back up my claim on why I agree it's Liberty City, here is another screen shot. The sign at the top of the Ferry Terminal in the middle says "_IBER_Y", missing the "L and T" are we?

This will be all about the gameplay and the physics for me. A game this open ended you can't expect unreal visuals, plus it's a multi platformer so you can be sure that it wasn't built for the ground up for the PS3's architecture. Oh well, as long as it is fun and immersive I'm in!

I think this might just be the first game I spend $60 on.

It may be a possibility that those were missing intentionally, as signs downtown in NYC frequently have letters missing/burned out/falling off.

Jersey is the Garden State. Plus there's always the commute to Newark - I hear it's beautiful in Spring.

Doubtful. My guess is that it's simply wishful thinking, and he'll be dragged back down into the cesspool fairly quickly. Just because he wants to walk the straight and narrow doesn't mean the bad guys (Russian Mafia, anyone?) of the world will let him.

Now wouldn't that be an interesting twist, if there were two perspectives from which to play the game? As the desperate criminal trying to clean up, or the hot shot police officer trying to work his way up the food chain with a big collar.

The logistics of it probably wouldn't work, but it'd be interesting, nonetheless.

Nowhere near like what we had in San Andreas. What huge mountains or vast open wooded areas are you gonna get lost in inside a city?

There is nothing to say that the entire game will take place within lower Manhattan, merely that NYC is the central location. I doubt they'd backtrack and confine everyone to a grid of city blocks and a couple of boroughs. I have at least that much faith in Rockstar and the GTA franchise. That said, my lack of faith in Sony scaling and 1080i has never been deeper.

Oh, I know that. That's why I originally said it's far too early to tell. As long as they allow us to travel to GTA's versions of upstate NY, Long Island, New Jersey, and hopefully beyond, then it will be cool.

I am pretty sure that the tag line of "Maybe here, things will be different" is suppose to be representative of the feelings of a hardened former soviet coming from a place where crime is largely a way of life hoping for a better life in the "land of the free" as is the common stereotype of the american immigrant. Of course with rockstar's cynical worldview (at least as it applies to the GTA universe) this is meant to be ironic, as opposed to being indicative of the gameplay. **(not saying the game wont change at all but im sure the object is still total ****down)

Now, that said, THIS **** WILL BE OFF THE ****ING CHAIN!!! The look of Liberty City (and yes i do believe it will still be called Liberty even though its obviously New York) finally has the feel of a real hustling bustling city, and I can only imagine with the power of next gen consoles just how many of those buildings can be intruded! I have great faith that this game will be worth 10 times its weight in gold, and has consistently been the ONLY game series that gets me super hype. I can't wait for more.
