It does have lots of nice pictures

Is this the right one?
Shouldn't it have a wireless antenna? What about the DVI?
HI!
I this one looks interesting.
I found the right one but i can't post any links until I have made 5 posts  .
This is the first one.
I also found one site with price $342.07. ($360.07 ordinary price).

Meenenator 08-11-06, 10:46 AM Hi!
Any more information regarding this unit?
Looks promising... problem is that most of the streamers does look promising until they have been tested.
Too bad it is not stated exactly what types of files which are supported.
It does say WMW9, Xvid and so on, I was more thinking of Mpeg-4 Mp@HL etc.
So what about Xvid HD and WMW HD and those HD formats?
It does have a Sigma 6821L chip so I presume it will do most of the formats I want, but not sure.
Does this support UPnP?
I'm looking for something that my ReadyNas X6 can support. It has UPnP and SMB(I think).
And maybe a third party UPnp server which could transcode all the non-supported formats.
Thanks for all info you guys can dig up on this little bugger.
M.
Update:
Just downloaded the korean(?) manual. It's just symbols to me, but I found this in clean english:
HD file format(tp,ts), Windows Media 9, Windows Media 9 HD
DivX3.11, DivX4, DivX5, DivX HD, Xvid, MPEG1, MPEG2(IFO, VOB, ISO)
So it seems like it does support some HD formats at least ;)
colbeing 08-12-06, 04:17 PM Can this device play streamaing media form the interent? Like the radio stations and streaming TV channels? If I were to rename the stream to .avi and save it on the computer and play it using this device somehow ?
skibell 08-13-06, 10:53 PM I don't mean to be rude, but... Any of you guys care to read the links. All your questions are there. If is not, then is not supported by the manufacturer. I happen to get a Tvisto just to fulfill my needs, I did a lot a research and read, read lots of post in this forum, and for that I thank you guys. But come on people, read!

Hey, be nice to us... ;)
I totally agree that we should all read the links etc., before asking all kinds of questions, but often things are not stated there. If they are, maybe not stated in full.
I too use way to much time reading about a specific unit, but I must say that many times the manufacturer could give us better spec.sheets.
Hope I didn't offend anyone :)

No offense taken, I saw the update on my "updates" and thought... Hmmm, a new HD player, lets check it out, I saw 3 links and click on them, looks like there are more than one different model. First link shows the one with HD, USB and DVI, pictures and all info you could ask for, Second link is from the manuf with even more info. Third link is a reviewer link but... It is the LX350 as with no HD.
Please click on link, don't need to know Korean, be brave.
Saw this thing yesterday at PC Gate computers in the Pacific Mall in Toronto. They let me look at it up close, but it wasn't hooked up to anything. Build quality is really nice. The box corroborates all of the formats, including that it will play dvd images. One confusing thing was that it said "1920x1080i progressive output." Hopefully the "i" was just a typo. I'm really kicking myself that I didn't buy the thing. A little pricey at $399 CAD, but it could turn out to be really cool.
Does anyone know how this unit compares to the TVIX 5000? Menus, performance, networking, etc?
Anthony
Coming soon to the Eureka LX350HD...
File transfers direct to the unit's hard drive via the network... and not via FTP. The unit will appear as a network share on your PC facilitating downloads direct to the media center.
This NAS solution is far and away better than the FTP solution coming out for the TVIX.
This is a great little unit and it's a firmware update or two (recently 2-3 weeks between updates) from being virtually unbeatable.

I have one of these on order, and it will arrive within a few days. Where can I find the (English) firmware updates in case my unit is not current? (And if they released one that recently, I would not expect an in-stock unit to be current.)
The only link I can find which is supposed to be for the firmware, is actually a LX351.bin file so I'm assuming it does not apply to the LX350HD?
Thanks!
The best place to get firmware updates is http://www.ziocanada.ca/download.html . They get their updates from Korea but actually post them sooner. 1.1.1.124 is the most current but another update should be coming soon.
Anthony

Thanks very much. I don't see anything that addresses what is changed in each firmware release. Is there a forum somewhere to follow? How do you know another should be coming soon?
Do you know what server clients this will support? Is it UPnP compatible?
Unfortuately I don't have those details and agree that they would be helpful. I'm really excited about the potential of this unit. Even without the upcoming updates I'm very satisfied with it right now.
Enjoy.

alangsk 08-28-06, 12:11 PM The biggest complaint that I have with almost all of these media players is the GUI. How is the GUI for this unit? Does anyone have any screenshots or know where to view them at?
Thanks!

From what I read, UPnP is not available, it basically mounts shareable drive. It looks like SMB from what I understand, but it's not mentionned specifically.
From reviews I read, the interface is supposed to above average to good.
Like always, for me, it almost fits the bill, but not quite :(
UPnP is the missing part, if this thing gets it before everyone else, it will probably get my vote.

Chris98vobra 09-03-06, 10:36 AM I noticed on the site that it says that it supports full DVD ripping. This includes all menus and bonus features.
Does anyone know if this is true? I have a BLT and have been waiting forever for this capability.
Chris
Does anyone who has one care to give their comments on how it performs, as i can't find any reviews for it.
Thanks.
I have one. It's still a VERY new product and probably a firmware update or two from reaching its potential (I'm expecting another update very, very soon). I haven't used any other media centers so I have no point of comparison. In using this one though I am happy with its performance overall. The menu is intuitive enough but I think there's still room for improvement.
A key point for me was speaking with someone from Zio Canada. He was very excited about this product and assured me that updates would come often and this media center really has the potential to become a market leader.
Picture quality is great. Audio quality also exceptional. I'm very interested in seeing what a post-124 firmware update brings though.
Anthony
Thanks analli.
I live in the UK and have found a couple of suppliers but it comes under the name IAMM, which certainly looks like the same product.
With the current firmware can you tell me if you are able to do the following:
1) Play dvd iso files from the internal HDD without any problem (sync issues/picture freeze etc)
2) Play HD ts files without same problems
3) Transfer files from pc to HDD via wired/wireless network.
Thanks again.
1) Play dvd iso files from the internal HDD without any problem (sync issues/picture freeze etc)
I have played DVD ISOs over the network perfectly. I haven't tried with the HDD yet but I would expect it would be even better.
2) Play HD ts files without same problems
I have played TS files over the network as well with no problems, again though not from the HDD.
3) Transfer files from pc to HDD via wired/wireless network.
There is no way to transfer files over the network YET. I'm told file transfer is coming in one or two firmware updates from now. I am also told it will NOT be FTP, one of the methods used by another media server. I should show up as a share on your network. I plan on setting up a scheduled task to execute a script that copies files nightly. Right now the only way to do file transfer is to hook up the device to your computer via USB.

That would be a good question for the support guys at ziocanada.ca
I don't know.

aljimenez 09-07-06, 01:45 PM Those controls on the top of the unit for the HD model are not good!
My MG-35 sits very nicely just as tall as the SONY receiver right next to it in a shelf with controls on the front. I would not be able to reach the top controls on this unit... Al

Many thanks for the info :)
When you're sitting on the couch what difference does that make?

This device is fundamentally equivelant to the tvix since they run the same sigma mainboard I think. Beware of false promises for future functionality. Rely on what delivers today, not possibly "smoke and mirrors" promises for the future. (I learned the hard way.)
qz3: Good point. For what it's worth though I got the "upcoming features" info from the distributor who also carries several other brands. He seemed to be impartial and legitimately excited about the promise of the Eureka.
I believe in "what have you done for me lately" though. I do like this unit and I got quite a good price on it. If it were to improve then it's all gravy as far as I'm concerned.

eUreka LX350HD supports HD DiviX/Xvid and WMVHD files.
As you see specs of LX350HD, this support upto 1080p wich is real full high definition.
Also, LX350HD supports ts files.
You also can play HD contents, when you streaming by wireless/wired network function.
But, will have delay and buffers often because HD file is too big.
However, other than HD files are ok to streaming play.
LX350HD support file transfers via wifi to an add-on HDD.
Thank you

that last bit is interesting. you can do wireless file transfers back and forth?
That file transfer is not supported YET but I was told the same thing and am expecting an update that ads this functionality soon (I hope).
Anthony
Anyone feeding via the DVI connector? Does that work fine?
Thx

Do you know when this is planned to be introduced? Lack of this option is really the only thing that stops me from buying it..

I got to play briefly with my Eureka LX350HD. Since my projector in the media room is enroute to being adjusted for convergence, I connected the Eureka to a 20" LCD unit (which has DVI and handles 720p). So I cannot comment on picture quality at large sizes yet. In addition, the internal hard disk that I've bought for the Eureka is only arriving today so I only got to try the wireless networking part.
The Eureka was very well packed and the unit itself feels well built even though it is not too heavy. The cover for the remote's battery compartment is a bit flimsy and I had to be careful while closing it once the batteries were loaded (quite tight). The remote itself is fine --- nothing fancy, does not flimsy nor like a tank.
The firmware that the unit came loaded with was 124 (which I believe is the latest?). I was able to put in the WEP key for my network and it locked on to the network pretty quickly. I tried both using a static IP and letting it obtain one from the DHCP server --- both work smoothly.
I tried both the component and dvi outputs at various resolutions (except 1080p which I cannot handle now) and they all work fine.
Initially I could not see all my drives and folders ... but it turned out that the problem was with file sharing on my PCs. Once I uninstalled and reinstalled file sharing on the PCs and shared my drives, I was able to browse through them smoothly on the Eureka.
JPEG images, AVI files and MP3 music played fine. Smooth, no jittering. I did see a problem with an MP4 video file --- it just showed a black screen. Not sure if it was the file or that the Eureka cannot handle them. I will try it in greater detail over the weekend.
With 4G dvd files, I found that the playback was choppy. I suspect that this probably has to do with the speed of my network connection ... wish that there were some way of displaying this on the Eureka ... but that is hardly a deal killer. I will get a laptop with a WiFi connection and try to play the same files to see if it makes a difference.
More later.

Thanks man, keep us updated.
Some "glitches":
I find that the LX350HD will not play MP3 files. A couple of MP4 video+audio files did not play either. Is this what others are seeing as well?
Also, the GUI is a bit clunky and if I pressed the "wrong" button, the unit locked up and I could not turn off the Eureka even with the power switch. The only solution was to disconnect power.
Wireless network connectivity following a "hard boot" as above was flaky and I had to enter and exit the setup mode a few times to get it to connect.

That would be wonderful. I wouldn't buy one unless it had this capability.
1.) Does this box support WPA or WPA2? I'm not going back to WEP.
EDIT: Nevermind. I found the answer in another thread. Another option bites the dust. When are these manufacturers going to wake up?
It supports WEP, but not WPA. Being a tad optimistic, many devices initially ship with support for WEP only, and later provide WPA support through firmware/driver updates. Here's hoping! The WEP key is entered through the remote control, using up/down the cursor keys to increment/decrement the current char through 0-9, a-f.
2.) How does it do with MP3 sub-folders?

Since my PJ and pre-amp have gone out for fixing, I have not been able to try this again ... hopefully I was doing something wrong. I was trying to play stuff off the network and its possible that there was a problem with the signal strength ...
I'll check again when my equip is back (and who knows maybe the new firmware will also be out by then!!!) :)

Has anyone found a pdf manual online? I found one here, but its in Korean (http://www.eureka.ne.kr/pds/files/lx350hd_manual.zip).

I called them yesterday in an attempt to get some info on the next firmware release. The person at the other end confirmed that they were working on allowing for file transfer over the network, but also indicated that they were nowhere near ready. He claimed that it was unlikely to come "before sometime in November".
I wouldn't hold my breath :)

Thanks.
Running into a little problem with the LX 351 model. Everything works fine with PC and TV (not HD), but it doesn't play any AVI files. It has an error that the files are not recognized. I've tried 6 different ones with the same issue, any ideas would be appreciated.

Check out the post I made a little earlier on this thread (on 9/20/06). I have a link for a korean version of the users manual. That one has a lot of screenshots though its all in korean (the english ones look similar).
I find the interface quite intuitive.

My LX350HD seems to play them fine. Also correctly shows sub-titles that are in the same directory under .srt files.
Some mp4 files do not play properly. I think that it could be a codec issue ...

I use wireless router and I created the share folder but no luck. And the other thing I'm using Windows Vista can this be creating a problem with networking. Any information would be great.

Not sure about Vista, but I've seen this with XP. Even though the files *should* be visible on the network, they are not. I think that this may have to do with an "anonymous logon".
Sometimes just uninstalling file sharing and reinstalling it will resolve the issue. So first go to "Network Properties" and remove File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" and then reinstall it. Try that first ... it worked for me with one of my computers but not another ...

I have the same problem with updating the firmware from Zio Canada web site. Make sure you have downloaded the firmware completely by checking the file size. It took me six tries before I got the complete firmware file. Good luck
I just found out this weekend that my Outlaw 950 pre/pro and the Eureka use identical IR codes! Pressing the "Stop" button on the Eureka turns off the Outlaw for example and a another key (forget which now) switches inputs on the Outlaw.
Any workarounds? (somehow I doubt it...)
Anyone else with an Outlaw product?
Guys, I am new to the thread and have been following the developments of this device. Here in Europe, the name is Iamm NTD36HD and it is exactly the same. So here is a link for the manual from the Korean manufacturer (pdf):
(link removed due to my low amount of posts so far -- but do Google for this player, you'll find it)
I am very impressed that in Canada they market it under another name--thank the Lord the firmwares are the same...
Good reading! Please let us know of any playback problems. I am very tempted to get one on eBay Europe, as we speak....

P.S. Just bought one. Will post my views very soon!

Hi All,
A slightly off topic question, hopefully you guys can answer it. Did the Eureka LX350 System that any of you guys bought have a removable protective film on the black plastic bezel ?.
The reason i'm asking is i have bought the euro version IAMM NTD36HD and the bezel is scratched on mine and looks used, there was no protective peel off film on mine.
Many Thanks.

I updated and fired up the unit this morning. I was hoping to see some feature to access the internal hard disk from the network ... but alas that is not to be! :(
I looked around at all the settings ... there is not one single new feature that I could see (the new firmware shows up correctly at the bottom of the screen). I also checked to see if they'd updated the codec list. A couple of the mp4 movie files that would not play before did not play with this revision either.
So I suspect that this is just a set of minor bug fixes to existing features/capabilities.
Thanks for the reply Sankar, in my opinion the surface scratches look like it's been cleaned with any old cloth and been marked in the process. This may seem slightly trivial but i am supposed to be getting a brand new product.
Thanks :-).
Well I like this unit so much I'm going to be getting a second one to place in my media room. It's not a done deal yet though. I'd really like to see some of these promised features come through before I reward them with another purchase.

My biggest peeve now is that I am unable to use the remote on this one since it interferes with my Outlaw PrePro ... if the promised features do not show up soon, I'll probably sell it ...

Looks like a bug fix release. I think someone else posted some observations. Maybe the next release will feature something new. In the meantime my basement theater is being worked on so shopping I go.

Since upgrading the firmware to 1.29 I have been experiencing video freezing when trying to FF or RW. In some cases FF 4x is okay but 8x is not. In other cases any FF or RW results in the video freezing for as long as 5 minutes then resuming looking like a slideshow or still images rather than video.
I am on the hunt for the european versions of 1.30 or 1.31. Failing that I may roll back to 1.24.
Anthony
The chatter (and therefore the enthusiasm) for the Eureka has certainly died down. Zio's promised frequent firmware updates... aren't. And the one they HAVE released is unremarkable. I am a couple of weeks from purchasing my second media device. If Zio wants to keep me they better step up.

sehgalanuj 11-11-06, 07:25 PM Hello!
I have recently purchased the Eureka LX350HD from Zio Canada. Up to now I have been completely satisfied with my purchase. It plays almost everything I throw at it and it is just so convenient not be burning disks. In short I love it.
The only complaint I have with it is that when I set the display to 1080i resolution over DVI, the picture is shifted about 2 inches to the right. Anyone see this issue?
On another note I have been reading through here for a while and found the link to the Iamm NTD36HD firmware download page. It is apparently on version 140 and the page on the Iamm website says that this version gives it the ability to playback original DVDs through USB connected drives.
This download can be found under the Downloads section on the Korean country domain for Iamm. I would write the link here but I cannot post it; PM me if you need it.
Anuj :)
Mine has that shifting problem too. I was told by support that they will resolve it.
Anthony
I've PM'd you for the link.

How do you play bin/cue files on the Eureka?
sehgalanuj 11-12-06, 11:37 AM I have been renaming .mds, .img and .bin files directly to .iso and it seems to recognize and play these files without any issues at all. I don't understand why this would be but it works anyhow.
I had found this tip in a Korean forum (translated via google) and for now it is working.
Maybe this will fix your problem. Otherwise, if you are on windows then you can always just fire up Nero and convert these images to .iso as well.

F1 TELEMETRY 11-13-06, 01:31 PM i don't know much about the chipset until i saw your post. however, i bought mine last week from Logic Computer House in Mississauga for $329.99 plus taxes. Originally i got the Inoi from TigerDirect online, and the units was crappy, didn't come with mounting screws, fan bearing noise, and now they want me to courier it back minus 15% retocking. really annoyed me.
This unit i researched a bit, and found out it supports HD which is what i'm hooking it up to. The unit is really good in terms of built quality. started using it with direct connection to the TV using DVI adapter to HDMI, and sound to standard composite cable. I could of gotten the adapter at Walmart for $30 instead of at Future Shop for $50. I must be running bad luck streak. The movies play well, picture on most of my Divx works, but it must me the compression used in the Divx that when pictures have black color, i can see the pixel. it is a huge leap to the other unit i had.
Then this weekend i tried to play MP3, and it would not play, it just kept scrolling my list and the unit hangs. I found out on the forum, there is a firmware patch from ZioCanada (a 5mb file). Did that, it patched no problem via USB flash key, but the MP3 playing is still doing the same thing. Really annoying me. i'm to call the tech support today and find out what's going on. Have not tried the wireless yet and hope i don't have a bug with that, the 1 in 1,000 lemon. don't get me wrong, the unit has great feature, and i'm still putting faith on the unit and hoping customer support will help me out here, or anyone on this forum.
Today I found out at there is another patch like another member posted and when i clicked the file, it's different and it says LX351.
F1 TELEMETRY 11-13-06, 01:38 PM sorry for this message if it is posted twice, it's my first time registering to a forum, and when i tried to post his message, it kept giving me errors that i'm trying to post more than 1 web link.

clasami 11-19-06, 04:30 AM This happens with MP3s if they cannot be played on the box. I own the IAMM NDT36 which is the same product distributed in Germany. The box has a problem with MP3s that contain cover images and other information embedded into the file by iTunes. I had to convert all ID3 tags of my collection in order to get the files to play on the IAMM (which also means storing the collection in a seperate folder to prevent itunes form adding the information again).
Hope this helps. The support from the manufacturer is rather poor. And it is not the local distributer that is at fault, but the manufacturer who appears to have moved on to design the next generation of products (something I have seen much too often with Korean manufacturers).

clasami 11-19-06, 04:34 AM Depending on your German language skills, you may want to check out the forum at hdd-player.de (go to the IAMM NDT36HD forum).
Can't post the link at this time (I am still limited in what I can post here as new member).

Try ZIO CANADA. I heard that they have good customer services. It is ZIOCANADA.ca
godinste 11-21-06, 06:46 PM Hello, I'm looking for a media center that I can choose the language of the movie, when I choose .iso or .ifo, is it possible to choose the language, or do I have to listen the first language like the D-Link DSM-520, thank you so much, because it is the only thing I'm waiting for bying this LX350HD, By, :)
Michel
clasami 11-22-06, 02:07 AM Yes, you can.
Michael
clasami 11-22-06, 02:10 AM There's little Zio can do as distributor other than urging the manufacturer (Novatron) in Korea to come up with a new firmware. The last update for the IAMM was a joke. And even the manufacturer may depend completely on Sigma since I suspect that Sigma provides a reference firmware.
Michael
clasami 11-22-06, 02:16 AM In fact I just took a look at the Candian site and there is almost nothing there. Firmware is at 1.29 (version 1.40 in Europe). The site design looks a lot like the Novatron design at iamm.co.kr
Michael
clasami 11-22-06, 03:44 PM On the bright side, the IAMM (Eureka) is the best device I know when it comes to playing movie files (DivX and DVD). ON CRT TV, brilliant picture quality and no problems at all with DiVX files. MP3 functionality leaves to be desired and JPEG quality is less than perfect. I have two IAMMs connected over a LAN network (cable). Instead of connecting HD to the IAMMs via USB, I have set up a little media server (NSLU2 and 4x250GB HD) that provides the content (Divx, mp4, slideshows made with Nero Vision as ISO files). It even plays mpg files captured with PC-SAT card without problems.
Here is a list of items that I would like to be addressed in a firmware update:
AUDIO:
MP3: Fix problem playing some mp3 files
MP3: Sort mp3 by Title, Artist, Album, Genre
MP3: Allow unlimited or at least larger number of files in Jukebox playlist (current limit 213)
MP3: Allow shuffel play in playlist and Jukebox
MP3: Use of iTunes database
INTERNET RADIO: Implement internet radio function (automatic shoutcast scan)
FUNCTIONS
FUNCTIONS: HD-Sleep function
FUNCTIONS: Restore firmware in case of corruption (as has happend to me)
FUNCTIONS: Protect access to drives or folders through password
PHOTO
PHOTO: Improve scaling/rezising of JPEGs (improve quality of image)
PHOTO: Provide fading/effect function for slideshow´
PHOTO: Provide thumbnail preview for images
But I am afraid that this is in vain given the lack of responsiveness of the manufacturer (the German distribtor is very supportive but what can he do if the manufacturer is either slow or not interested). A mail from me to the manufacturer on an issue went unanswered. That is disappointing given the price of the device.

Michael
gtulunay 12-04-06, 10:24 PM Hi Guys,
Is anyone using windows vista with lx350 hd ? I have a wireless networking problem
gtulunay, why bother with Vista yet? I hear there are quite a few problems remaining to be resolved... Use well-tested and well-known XP for your wireless networking...
Does this baby can play Shoutcast Stations (Internet Radio)?
I ordered mine last sunday, I am expecting it today yuhu!!!!
I will be posting my own dumb review later
Hello, I could not upload more than 3 photos but they will be enough just for a quick pick.
I received it on a big box and I thought it was going to be just the size of a HardDisk. Inside the brown box, there it was my new best friend :) It comes with USB cable, Component (3 RCA) cable, AV (2RCA audio, 1RCA video) cable, AC adapter, CD, remote, batteries, the anthenna and the Eureka (hurrah).
First I connected all the cables, I used the DVI, and the analog 5.1 output to my Home Theater. I did not plan to install the HD right now, so I was just worried to connect it to my network.
First I configured the IP for Wireless, I left the DVI in [Auto mode] and the image came to my 32" LCD TV. At first none of the icons was enabled, then I realized it was to soon to scan my network so I inserted my USB memory and in 2sec one of the USB icons was enabled. I could browse some photos and 2 mp3 I had in that moment. Then I started to be less worry about something I could do wrong. when I got backward to the menu I saw my network icon enabled, I click it and I could not see a thing :( so I remembered one post from a pal here that recommended to disable the firewall. so I did in both computers I had. nothing . . . . I double checked my IP settings (static IP is not in conflict I thought, my router is x.x.x.x, it is OK, mmmhh....) when I got back from the setup screen (every time you change something in the IP settings it takes 30sec to re-boot) I clicked the network icon again and voila, my both computers were there :D. Then once you click on any of them, you are able to see all the shared folders you have. Just to test (I am very stubborn) I enabled my firewall back and the folders were still there so I thought, it doesn't matter about the Firewall because the [File sharing] is in the exception list of Windows Firewall tab.
I tried random MP3, all good with no problem, then I tried some of my divx, xvid avi's and all were good, tried subs (srt mostly) they worked!
When I tried an DVD in ISO, it played by 6sec and then started to des-sync all, mmhhh, I tried a DVD ripped (.TS .IFO), the same, squares and des-sync audio. Then I tried the WIRED network and then played well so I realized it is still to much to ask to stream DVDs by wireless.
Please fell free to ask anything. I have in mind to try a Winamp .pls Shoutcast file tonite.
The last three I promise :p
It seems I have the las revision of the device, it already have NDAS icon on the menu
Has anyone upgraded to the European Iamm firmware version 1.40 on their Eureka? If so, how did it work out? Any advantages? Any compatibility issues?
Anthony
Looks like the newer units have NDAS.
Many of us who bought the first wave of units expecting that future firmwares would provide network access to the h/d in the Eureka (and this was mentioned by a tech with Zio in Canada). Are we hosed now?
Questions,
1. Can it be laid on it's side?
2. Can you play photos and Mp3 at same time?
3. During slideshow, how long is pause between photos?
4 Is there a fade in/out?
5. Can slide duration be selected?
6. Are photos shown in HD?
7. Can thumbnails and album cover art be displayed?
8. Does it handle playlists?
Thanks
1. Can it be laid on it's side?
NOT REALLY SINCE THE BASE IS SLIGHTLY ROUNDED.
2. Can you play photos and Mp3 at same time?
I BELIEVE THE ANSWER IS YES.
3. During slideshow, how long is pause between photos?
THIS IS CONFIGURABLE WITH THE SHORTEST PAUSE BEING 3 SECONDS.
4 Is there a fade in/out?
OF WHAT?
5. Can slide duration be selected?
I THINK THIS IS THE SAME AS 3 ABOVE.
6. Are photos shown in HD?
I'M NOT SURE. I WOULD ASSUME THEORETICALLY YES.
7. Can thumbnails and album cover art be displayed?
SORRY, NOT SURE.
8. Does it handle playlists?
HAVEN'T TRIED IT BUT I THINK IT DOES.
ANYONE CARE TO ADD TO MY RESPONSES?

The very friendly folks at Zio Canada (Hantech Corporation) are willing to accept LX350HD units in their original packaging and complete with all accessories and exchange them for a LX350HD-N for a fee of $50.
I thought this was quite reasonable and exchanged both of my units.

Gee I hope the one I have in transit to me is of the new LX350HD-N Variety you mentioned. I'd hate to have to return or exchange it, especially if It costs me an extra $50.

This was already answered by Analli but just to confirm 2 answers:
Answer 4: YES (fade in/out to photos)
Answer 7: NO (at least I haven't read about it in the manual)
Answer 8: Yes
Let me comment once more, this is a great unit so far with my 5 days of testing, it takes 1sec to start playing .ISO DVD via Wired LAN wow, wow, wow, Just to mount the .ISO in my computer would take me 4sec just to choose the file in DaemonTools ;) plus 2-3sec autoplay to start.
This weekend I am going to install a HardDisk, but I think it is going to be all the same.
Please clarify...
3. During slideshow, how long is pause between photos?
By this question i meant, is there a lag (other than the fade) between the time a photo disapears from the screen and when the next one is fully displayed?
6. Are photos shown in HD?
This one is important to me. Some units display HD video but only SD photos.
In HD, photos should be razor sharp - no jaggies. Can someone please try this?

For the pause I would say that there is no discernable pause - less than a second. This is over 100 Mbit though. Over 10 Mbit there may be a short pause as the photo loads (if it's large).
It appears to me that the photos are shown in SD. Mind you I'm watching on a 97" projection screen but there is clearly a difference between the quality of the video and the quality of the photos.

What is the firmware version of yor box?? mine is 1.32

My LX350HD-N came with 1.32 loaded on it but I'm told that 1.42 will be available next week on Zio Canada's new and improved website.

Why is this reasonable? The NDAS-Feature is a software solution implemented through firmware (unless Zio Canada has implemented a hardware solution which I doubt - it is the same as the IAMM). Charging $50 for the same piece of harware with new firmware does not sound reasonable at all. The new ones, I understand, come with firmware 1.32 and NDAS should have been implemented from 1.29 onwards. All Zio Canda needs to provide to the proud owners of older boxes is the code and theread/write key to make the NDAS solution work. Plus you need to install the Ximeta driver on your PC (can be downloaded at their website).
Michael
I see your point. Zio Canada did offer me a free solution. That was to send them the MAC address of my LX250HD. They would get updated firmware specific to my unit that would enable the NDAS. The downside as I saw it was that when newer firmware was released I would again need to resubmit the request to enable NDAS for my MAC address.
Switching to a newer unit seems to eliminate this.

After my last post, I rethought the "reasonableness" of this and decided it was not fair. Quite honestly I bought the unit because the tech had indicated that a firmware was on its way that would allow me to access the h'd from the network ... I do not think that its fair for them to expect me (or anyone one else) to pay again. After all the product is barely a couple of months old!!

Did you ask them why they couldn't just give you the internal code that you could use going forward?
Btw, who did you speak to? It would help to have a name ...
Thx
I spoke to Jake, but it's a small company and anyone there can be of help I'm sure.

clasami 12-09-06, 06:02 PM The code and read/write key are box specific (tied to the MAC address) and don't change with firmeware updates.

Honestly, the way I saw it was I wasn't getting a refund or exchange from the retailer (without having to pay a "restocking" fee) so I could either be stuck with the "old" version or take advantage of an opportunity to get the "new" version.
I'm not crazy about the $50 fee, particularly since I have TWO Eureka's. I would have paid $25 without a peep. I asked about a price reduction and was denied.
I agree that since we were told NDAS would become available as a firmware update, we are entitled. But with limited options I elected for the simplest one. The cost of being "the first kid on the block" I guess.

gav_rs250 12-11-06, 04:45 AM Hi all - great forum,
I've just got the European version IAMM with firmware version 1.40 & 320Gb Hdd pre-installed. I can't get the NDAS to work, I can see all of my P.C's shared drives via the 54Mb wireless link and can stream ok from them, but the NDAS wont see the IAMM/LX350HD HDD, it registers the read write key etc ok. Tried turning firewalls off completely on the P.C's, but still no joy - has anyone got NDAS to work yet or is this another firmware release away ?
P.S Also while viewing Xvid movies I sometimes get distorted audio - this is via the optical o/p to my 5.1 surround sound system, is this common ?
Thanks,
Gav
I can't say that I've experienced either of these problems. For the audio issue I'd say it's either bad data, a bad connection, or slow (if you're wireless). For the NDAS, I'd try rebooting the system, double checking that the setup was performed correctly, and maybe even enabling flie sharing. I'm not really sure what the problem is but if the setup isn't performed as necessary it could account for it.

I spoke with Byron at Hantech today about getting NDAS on my older unit. He said that there were two options available to me:
Send them my unit and they send me a new unit. But now they would need to sell my unit as refurbished (for a lower price). They are charging $50 to cover this. The turn around would be 2 days in this case once they receive the old unit.
Send them the MAC address for the current unit by email and then they would send the read/write code and associated software to me (by email). Once they get that to me, it would be a permanent fix ... i.e. I could use it with new firmwares as well. The only issue was that they would need to get the code themselves from someone else (NDAS supplier?) and the lead time could be a month or so.
With the first option I would need to pack everything, send it in and stay without the unit for a week or so. Plus pay $50 and shipping one way. Byron said that they are offering this since some customers may not be willing to wait the month or two it could take.
With the second option, it would take me a month (or at most 2) to get NDAS but its free and there is no downtime. I've chosen to go with this option ... I'm willing to wait a month. When I send them my MAC address, I'll reconfirm that the fix is permanent ...
I think that this is fair.

Did you use the correct code and key? The box comes with codes and keys for both, LAN and WLAN. The WLAN Code and key is on the inside of the HD-compartemnet.
Lower the volume on the IAMM. The indicator in the volume bar on the screen should be in middle or below, not all the way to the right.

The second option, while fair, speaks to the slow reaction of the manufacturer to requests even by their distributors. Once wrote them a mail with a suggestion for improvement but never heard back. Doubt that Novatron (manufacturer of the IAMM and - I guess- of the Eureka will ever come up with improvements in the firmware - just bug fixes.

I was given information that the NDAS addition would be wiped out on a subsequent firmware update but I concur that this really doesn't make sense. I drove my 2 units over to Hantech and did the swap. If I had to lose the use of the device for any period of time by shipping it I wouldn't have done it and would have chosen the other option.
I wasn't jumping at the notion of waiting for a month for the custom solution. Two months? No way. Glad I paid the fee and swapped them out in person. One less thing on my "things to do" list.

Glad to see that money is not an issue for you. Just don't think that you will like what you get in terms of NDAS. NDAS is implemented on the device as a software solution. As such, it is terribly slow, so slow in fact that you will hardly ever transfer any large files to the box by using NDAS. NDAS also has a tendency to crash the box (mostly if people disconnect or shut down the box before the transfer is done. Beware: The closing of the Windows copy box does not neccessarily indicate that the transfer process is done). The only god thing about NDAS is that with it you can share the box as a drive on the network. Transfer from the box using NDAS is ok. It appears to be the writing to disk that's slow.
Michael

Michael
Maybe these will get fixed in a subsequent firmware ... ?
clasami 12-12-06, 12:08 PM Wouldn't hold my breath. For once, the manufacturer appears to have little interest to improve firmware apart from bug fixing, secondly, the processing power of the box may just not allow for much of an improvement.

Michael,
Thanks for that got NDAS working, I didnt know about the second code + key - would have spotted it I hadnt been lazy and had the HDD pre-intalled by the seller !
You're also right - its dog slow downloading from my PC, it would be quicker to fire up my laptop and use USB to load new media.
Gav.
clasami 12-13-06, 02:37 PM It certainly is not practical to transfer a large number of files from the PC to the box using NDAS. To fill up a 250GB or larger disc, USB is the only way to go. NDAS does come in handy, however, to add one file at a time - and of course to make the box visible in a network and stream from it.
Michael
Be careful of software based NDAS. Its SLOW as anything. Your frustration level will go through the roof. And the gall of them for charging $50 for NDAS key. Mediagate MG35 tried this some time ago. They charged $20 for their NDAS key. I bought it and got disgusted with the speed. Transferring mp3s and jpgs are OK but not for full length video.
I am guessing, if this units has linux in it? if it does, why didn't just enabled the samba package, anyway it is going to be for personal use, so the security is not the problem.
So far I am very happy with my unit. This weekend I am going to install the HD

indeed transfer 1 or few smaller files...
The player is reasonably unstable, has totally underdeveloped Music and Picture sections but is deffinately the better movie player with a lot of functions and connections... All in all, it's the second best i've seen, after the TViX 5000 which is more robust but less connection and nifty featyres though on the other hand, can read your network shares very easily (nas and PC without additional software)
A tip, for those who like to share more then 1 folder on any device supporting Network shares:

Hi Jack, It is the NTD36 that you have been reviewing since the 35 has a hardware based NDAS solution. The player is stable incomparision but has the nasty habit of freezing up solid if confronted with a file it cannot handle. I agree with your assessment of the Audio and Picture features (should be easy to fix if one wanted in firmware). The IAMM has no problem to see everything that is in a network (including other IAMMs that have been register through NDAS and shared). No need for software to do that. Software only neccessary if you want to see the IAMM on your PC as a drive.
Problem with the IAMM and the EUREKA and other devices of this kind and price range appears to be that the manufacturers pretty much built according to the reference design provided by Sigma, create a more less good looking plastic case, and then sell whatever they can before the next generation Sigma chip comes out. Brand and brand loyalty has not yet been discovered by these manufacturers - which explains why there is little to no activity with regard to meaningful firmware improvements.
But playing avi and iso files is working perfectly with this box, which is why I bought them in the first place.

Hi-Jack 12-17-06, 03:06 PM Yes, i have the NDAS incorporated with the review unit...
Kind of sad it doesn't work that well. I done tests before with NDAS (Coworldcs
Sharedisk) and that performaed very well. We'll also look in the MG35 from them.
My conclusion was that the IAMM NTD35HD is specifically for Video a very great
little mean machine but for music and pictures, it hardly provides the things we
need most...
I have to make myself guilty of double posting... as i did in another thread already
post the links. I can link to that thread so you can grab the links for Video and
Review there... :-)

Nice to see you here on the forum ;)

Hi-Jack 12-18-06, 11:31 AM Hey SeeMore... You're everywhere... like me :-)
Clasami / Michael,
Reference N35 was a typo...
I agree with most of your message but my remark for the IAMM seeing network shares is
rock solid as the manual describes it as one needs to do nothing, yet me (who have seen
so many players) could not find an easy way to do it so yes I assume something needs
installing, mounting or whatever but what is it and how? Most users are not advanced and
my comments derrive from a user perspective, not a PC nerd like you and me :-)
As far as FW updates for sections... I have this nasty rule... You can't sell players today and
deliver features later that are promised to begin with just like we can't pay later when we
have money...
As far as music and pictures go, it is anounced as a player delivering great stuff on all
aspects and i only found 1, Video. Even NDAS and Wireless failed for me due to instability,
limited transfer rates and Wlan just does not cut the need for streaming HD files, if I
already find how to majke the IAMM see them over network :-)
Must play with it some more as soon as a FW update is available.
I would wish it had simply some SMB support instead of NDAS or a combination of both...
Just like i said, so much for video, so less for the rest... and yet, I still can
recommend it just for the video part as the outputs and the way handling files is
done with all options, is absolutely the best i've seen in this range of players...
Enjoy
krinderb 12-18-06, 12:35 PM Hi - jack,
I read your review of the IAMM NTD35HD with interest as i have one myself.
Firstly i a agree for video this player is top notch.
I also have to say this is a excellent player for streaming content from a shared folders on a computer over the wlan connection. There is actually no software required to do this but you do have to ensure that the guest account on the pc is active as it is disabled by default in xp.
once you have activated it you will also need to go to 'Control Panel' > 'Network connections', and select ‘Local area connections’ properties by right clicking the mouse.
Remove “Guest” from the ‘User Rights Assignment’ > ‘Deny access to this computer from the network’option.
Move to ‘Access this computer from the network’, and then select ‘Properties’ by right clicking the mouse or double clicking it.
Click ‘Add User or Group’
Type in “Guest” and then click the “OK” button, and Guest will be registered.
once the above has been done all you have to do is share a folder on the pc and give the guest account read access and the IAMM will stream from it no problem.
Also one thing you missed off on your reviw that i really love about this toy is that you can connect a external dvd-rom to it via a usb host connection and it playes thye dvd with menues and all.
I cant really comment on NDAS stuff as my player didn't come with a devise id or key so i'm still waiting for bjglobal to mail me one.
Finally the music and photo options on the IAMM require a lot of work before they are at the same standard as rest of this devise so i will not even consider using it for music or photo's until there has been improvments made in future fw's.

clasami 12-18-06, 05:34 PM Hi-Jack, I've seen people with problems accessing their networked PCs from the IAMM in other forums but really don't know why they have all these problems. When I received my IAMM (which ich connected to the network via a Netgear router) all I had to do was switch it on and the IAMM obtained a Network address with the auto DHCP setting. When I later put in a NSLU2 with several drives connected to it, the IAMM recognized the new network device and shows all drives. And no, my guest account on WinXP Home SP2 is not active.
There is a new XIMETA driver for NDAS available here http://www.hdd-player.de/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=450 which solves an installation problem (BSOD) with WIN2000.

Hey guys, isn't this forum entitled:
Eureka LX350 HD High Definition Wireless Media Center with DVI?
krinderb 12-18-06, 06:52 PM The Eureka LX350 HD and IAMM NTD35HD are the same device.
Hi-Jack 12-20-06, 01:05 PM Well, it seems a lot of people have the issue of not being able to see their PC Shares...
Maybe it only sees Linux shares :-) (then again, i have 4 NAS running with over 15 shares on them, my PC has 8 shares and my Gues Account is active and the IAMM sees nothing...
Not even 1 if is reduce the available shares to 1 on the PC. This has no link with acquiring a network IP Address as my unit get's that fine... It just does not want to see any shares...
As for NDAS, it doubles the speed you get with other tools like FTP on the usual players so it's a 100% gain. i strongly believe NDAS is invented for PC and not for Media Players though. pc based the NDAS reaches almost Gigabyte performance on a normal 10/100 lan...
Let's keep in mind not NDAS is the bad thing here, but the limited performance and
bandwidth of the Sigma chip. The NDAS mainly offers easy access...
I also noticed, if you remove the IAMM without doing a safe removal (PC Windows) the unit
starts playing everything bad. Solution i found was do a Disk Check and do a safe removal
afterwards... (i use USB by the way as indeed, an ISO file over USB is 10X faster then
NDAS...)

Well, let's give you a long long reply now :-)
My review did comment it is possible to use a DVD USB Drive... It is not the
purpose of the device though as stand alone HDD based media player. I said
somewhere it is something amongst other things for the customer to discover if
he/she decides to grab one... :-)
The user Right assignments should be done from the Policies, not Network Connections :-) (Control panel, Administrative tools, Local Security Policy on Windows XP...) I have no clue why you refer to calling properties for networking unless it is on Win2K...
I already enabled Guest and changed PC policies and still no shares. ig micht be due to some settings but here's where I play reviewer... In the first place this is as you say not user friendly. Second, it would have been easier offering a User/password setting in the IAMM Setup menus for this purpose or at least provide some more info in the manual then just refer "sharing PC Folders" and make it sound easy...
I also slightly dissagree the Wlan option is "great". It's ok. It won't perform well
enough for ISO or Transport Streams... If only for Music, Pictures and normal DivX,
it will be great but we have to look at the whole range of possibilities when
deciding a function is fully useable or not, and wlan isn't... (on any player by the
way)
Off to a reboot as i changed tons of other policies now too.
I'm going to crack this little bugger... :-)
nmolenbeek 12-21-06, 03:25 PM The Eureka LX350 HD and IAMM NTD35HD are the same device.
This is partial true. The LX350hd-n is newer and is different from the Iamm.
I got this info from Zio when i asked about the latest firmware for the LX-350hd-N
At the moment this is 1.1.1.32. and the 1.1.1.42 from Iamm is not compatible!
They are working on firmware and they expect to have new firmware for the -n version in febuary.

Did they mention to you what are they planning to change? What is going to be included in this new revision of the firmware? I already have the 1.1.1.1.32 and so far I have not had ANY problems. I hope the new revision allow me to play internet radio (like shoutcast) :)

no sorry only that it will be released in 2 months. what the changes and additonal features they did not tell....
clasami 12-22-06, 01:42 PM Strongly doubt that there is any difference between the two other than that Zio wanted to charge extra for NDAS. May be Zio cares to tell what the differences are.
Michael
krinderb 12-22-06, 03:43 PM I agree i cant see any differences in the specs of the 2 devices. Looks like Zio are just using this as an oppurunity to make a little more money. I got my IAAM 2 months ago before the NDAS feature was enable by the latest firmware. I sent KJ Global (the guys i bought this toy from) a mail explaining i needed a devise key and read/write code.... they sent it to me the next day FREE.... the NDAS works but i haven't really given it a real test. if anyone here is interested i'll let you know how i get on.

azizmak 12-27-06, 03:12 AM I just Go LX 350 HD-N from onlybestrated.ca today. I bought it for movies only and I am really impressed with the performance. I played DIVX, DVD. I have not yet try to stream but I will highly recommend it if you are just going to use it for videos
alander 01-02-07, 09:21 AM Hi Guys,
This is my first post in this forum. I'm getting ready for buying this Multimedia Player, but before I do, I just wanted to confirm something… From what I've read in this forum, the player plays the .ts files without any problems? Is that correct? I've also found out that supposedly the .ts playback is much better than on the Tvix player. I will be playing some .ts files which are around 10Gb in size. Would it be possible to play these over the LAN or only from a HD? Also, are there any issues with DIVX/XVID files encoded in high resolution (i.e. HD)? Any other issues I should be aware of or that would stop me from buying this unit? As stated before, I will be using it mostly for playback of HD content (.ts and XVID files). I don't care for the mp3 files. I'd greatly appreciate any feedback. Thanks in advance.
Hi Guys,
From what I've read in this forum, the player plays the .ts files without any problems? Is that correct?
Hi, I bought this baby almost 2 months ago and so far, I love it. You can play HD files and DVD .TS files just perfect over the LAN, but when I tried doing it by WLAN, it just keep making pauses, desync the audio. but with the emdebed HardDisk or over the LAN, they just play very well.
I don't have the Mvix ot TVix, but for I have read this unit Eureka is way better. Of course this is just my opinion based on the reviews of the other one. I was also considering buying the other ones because of the price, but then I decided to buy this one, because If I was going to invest, better to do it in the best one :) besides I needed the 5.1 Analog output then. Now I upgraded my receiver and now I no loger use 3 pairs of RCA Analog conection, I just plugged the Optical Digital cable. It just rocks
elec999 01-07-07, 05:44 PM Can anyone confirm if it can play x264 video.
Thanks
hr1234575 01-07-07, 08:33 PM Hi elec999,
I have the LX350HD and cannot play x264. I think it is a limitation of the Sigma chip the box has. I did some tests, and converted a couple of HD trailers to Nero AVC1, WMV AVC, and X264, and they all failed to play. The same material converted to MPEG4 High Def 720p and 1080i (encoded as HalfPixel -because QuarterPixel does not play either-) were able to play.
The box has some serious bugs, or said in a nicer way, some features are not very well implemented. i.e. I have been unable to play MPEG 4x3 material without being stretched, something other boxes like the Mediagate (I do not remember the model, the HD one) can do.
One serious bug, If I stop the movie (DVD material and MPEG4 -Nero or Divx-) before the last frame, everything willl be fine, but if I let the box play the last frame, it will get stuck and will need a reboot. I have tried VOBs, IFO with VOBs, ISO, and the same happens. I would say to stay away from it, unless a future firmware improve those issues. The firmware version .29 also kills the NDAS feature in a box with firmware 1.32 (this version had NDAS).
The NDAS feature (before the .29 killed it) was so slow, it was a waste of time. I do not miss it.
One more thing it drove me crazy, entering the WEP key, I tried entering my WEP key as 12345, and would not work, I had to enter the encrypted key i.e. BF41JB9502.
I also think the scaler is mediocre compared with the Mediagate HD one. (The Mediagate had some other bugs, but it scaled 720x480p very well)
Too late to return it. As a consolation, it plays TS streams well.

I was wondering if that's specific to firmware 1.32? I have the same problem but it's the first time someone mentions it (if I'm not wrong). It's not just 4:3 material, any aspect ratio other that 16:9 will be squeezed/stretched. It's a stupid bug, since DVD ISOs are handled properly. My email to Zio Canda was left unanswered.
Does this issue exit in firmware 1.29 available for download?
hr1234575 01-08-07, 08:35 PM The 4x3 stretch issue happens with both firmware versions. The 1.29 version will disable the 1.32 NDAS.

I had my box with FW 1.32 and don't have the same problem playing the last frame. Mine plays entire movie until the end then exiting out to the movie's folder.
I'm certain that your box has either FW screwup or it may be hardware problem. You should call tech support to talk about it. If it's really hardware issue, they must exchange it for you.

alex5600 01-12-07, 12:15 PM DVI output for SONY Bravia XBR2
I just connected Eureka LX350 HD to my SONY 40” Bravia XBR2 and am very pleased. It plays all files from HDD and network. What out settings should I have to play 480p files? Should I set the Eureka output to 1080p or should I set this output to 480p and this allowing SONY to do the upconversion. I read that SONY engine is very good for this. Frankly speaking, I tried both settings and didn’t notice any difference, but still I would like to have it right!
Also, does it make any difference to use DVI output instead of component output?
Thanks

The conventional wisdom with digital data and digital displays is that it is best to use DVI interface, to prevent degradation from the conversion back and forth from analog.
alex5600 01-13-07, 07:03 PM Does anybody have problems with FastForward? On my box when I use fast forward option, it correctly moves fast and displays new position. krishragh 01-14-07, 07:12 PM Hi Guys,
I bought this player on ebay, seller says its new but when I powered it on first time and tried to entered setup it says keyin password. Did anybody encounter this?
Ziocanada support says default password is 0000 but it didn't work. Only option seems to be to send this to them and get it reset, does anyone know how to reset or why is there a password screen in the first place. The motherboards have a BIOS password reset on them, does anyone know if this box also can have something like that (switching the place of short pin ). Did anyone look inside this box? I haven't still opened it as I am waiting from the ebay seller to give a response about the password.
Right now the video output is there from component and DVI ( I have a 1080i TV ) but I can get 480p max output and some other output which TV can't display (says invalid format, I am thinking its 1080p). Since I can't enter setup, I don't know what other options are available. I am not able to use network capabilities either.
Thanks for any help.

Hello antivirus, Are you planning to enable SAMBA on this ?
It would be great to have this option ;)
smorgasbord 01-18-07, 03:05 AM An earlier poster said they thought the JPEG display was SD because it didn't look as good as movies. This was confusing to me, as most movies are SD themselves. If photos look worse than that, they're really bad.
So, can anyone confirm what resolution photos display at? If I have a 3000 x 2000 pixel photo, will I see it at the full 720P/1080i resolution my HD TV is capable of? If I zoom in, will I see more detail, or just a larger, fuzzier image?
In general, how useful is photo viewing? (As a side note, Apple claims its AppleTV unit displays photos not only in Hi-Def, but accesses them via iPhoto or Adobe Photoshop Elements. This implies that I can use the metadata tags I've already setup in PS Elements to choose which photos to view. Anything like that on the Eureka?

I must say that I'm disappointed with the lack of support on this device. When I first purchased it Zio Canada advised me of frequent and regular firmware updates. This just hasn't come to be. And the "new" website (containing FW updates) that was supposed to go live "next week" in early December, was then supposed to go live "next week" a couple more times.
The guys at Zio Canada are nice enough but I'm not looking for their friendship. I need support in the form of firmware updates and features that are promised and not delivered. The "next week" with the website isn't a big deal in and of itself but more so since it shows that they are either (a) disorganized or (b) downright deceptive. In either case that doesn't bode well for clients.
Zio Canada needs to step up. I know they read these forums so I encourage them to comment and calm a brewing revolt. Failing to do so is a great way to kill the enthusiasm for this device and steer us all to Zio's competitors.

wurldbefree 01-25-07, 02:00 PM krishragh,
I did the same thing, bought this drive on eBay, 0000 didn't work either, turned out that my LX350HD was a Demo bundle (80gb hd, 6' dvi/hdmi cable and firmware that said Aquos, Powered by Zio eUreka LX350HD) from Sharp to power the Aquos 1080p TVs in the store. Long story short, since some of these stores don't carry the 1080p TVs these LX350HDs were considered freebies and they started showing up on ebay. I got lucky and had a good eBayer who followed up with his Sharp rep, I was able to get into mine with "sharp123"
Good luck and I hope this helps someone.
darklordjames 01-26-07, 04:33 AM wurlldbefree - you roX0rs my soX0rs! that password was just what i was looking for. i'm in one of the stores that uses this thing for a demo box, but the 11 minute demo gets really annoying after about 3 loops. i took the box home tonight to load some new stuff up on it, and that "sharp123" password is just what i needed. thanks man!

Hello and good day Mr antivirus. I just purchased my new LX350HD and it came with firmware 132 in it. I am very interested in what you are doing with this device.
I just got on this board and I am new to my LX350HD but I am a unix admin for 15 years now. Am I to understand this device is running some type of Linux under the covers and that you have been developing your own code for this device?
Wow, thats cool and I am interested for sure. How do I login to this machine at the Unix level? tell me more about what you have done!
thanks Rob

Antivirus, Do you know how to backup first my current firmware version, I know this is not your version, but I have ZIO Canada/Eureka Version, and for I could read, you have been working successfully in the german/eurepean IAMM version. Does NFS work better/faster than samba ?
I am kind of newbe to linux, I have intsalled on my two machines Ubuntu, I have "some" experience now with NFS, but if samba works "fine", I rather will be working with smb:// because I can use either Windows/Linux, otherwise NFS will only be available for my Linux Side :)
Anyway, I want to congrat you for your hard work, I really like when things can be custom to our needs !!!

Finally after a 2 month wait (and a few courteous chase up emails/phone calls) I received the read/write keys for my LX350HD yesterday. The NDAS seems to be working fine and I can finally see the internal HD on my network!
My original submission was in mid-December. In mid-Jan (one month later), I sent the first chase up and within a day they came back asking for confirmation on the MAC address. It almost appeared that nothing had happened till my follow up email and it was only then that the info was sent to the manufacturer (this is only a conjecture on my part and may not be the case of course). Not having heard anything for another month, I sent them a follow up email this past Wednesday night requesting them to please chase up with the manufacturer. Late in the day Friday (yesterday), I received an email with the keys. I only have to assume that my email on Wednesday triggered a response and that the keys were immediately provided. If this was indeed the case why couldn't the turnaround time have been shorter? My first chase up triggered an email being sent to the manufacturer and the second chase up triggered the manufacturer to get the keys! I could not chase up earlier since I was told that it could take a month or two (which ended up being true), but I don't quite understand why should it take that long. Isn't it just some database that they need to have looked up for the read/write keys using the MAC address that I sent them?
Bottom line : I must agree that the folks at Hantech are genuinely friendly and helpful (Jeff was my contact for all this). However, they had to get the keys from the manufacturer who was doggedly slow to respond. Had I not chased with emails, I wonder how much longer I would've had to wait.
Anyway, all is well that ends well and I have the keys now ... but it was a test of patience! :)

NDAS is dead slow..Your better off plugging in the USB if your transfering files to the unit. IMAO.
NDAS is dead slow..Your better off plugging in the USB if your transfering files to the unit. IMAO.
This is indeed true for large volume transfers ... but being able to see the files on the Eureka's drive is useful since sometimes I will play stuff back on my PC upstairs. It seems to be fast enough for that. Also, sometimes I am fine with setting up a transfer and letting it take a whole night (and a day) to complete. It may be slow but it works and sometimes is preferable to disconnecting the unit from my media room and lugging it up to where the computers are.
But I agree that in general for large volume transfers to the Eureka (when one is not willing to wait a long while to complete), plugging into the USB is preferable.
daniel.rusen 02-14-07, 08:45 AM Hello,
My name is Daniel and I am new to this forum. I am very interested to buy a Eureka LX35 device, and to make sure that is the right decision please be very kind to answer some questions :
1. I can play HD content (like .mks files or .ts files) ?
2. I can play some files directly from my laptop, like a media player ?
3. I can move files from my PC to the device throw Wi-FI connection with a router ?
4. Does he see the subtitles for divx movies ?
5. The player has zoom options ? I mentioned that i will used in combination with a Plasma display and i definitely need zoom option.
6. Any other option would be appreciated !
Thanks a lot !

lx350hd 02-15-07, 06:34 PM A few questions about your firmware antivirus..
If I load your firmware v150 in to my lx350hd is it possible I will have problems because its not the one from the vendor? How can I revert back to v132 if I want to?
Is the firmware actually the linux o/s?
Does your v150 of firmware add any codecs so I can play stuff that isn't in my current v132 firmware from vendor?
thanks buddy! You are #1.

Hi again master. So, I am going to load the v150 firmware on my lx350hd. I wonder since I am using the wireless/dhcp on the unit currently do I have to go in and reconfigure this after new microcodes? thanks!
pmarcovi 02-16-07, 02:47 PM I just puchased this unit. The files play fine from the HDD I have installed. When I attach an external DVD and I try to play an "original" disk, the unit hangs ... Also, trying to browse folders on a remote computer fails if I go more than one level deep.
Questions:
How do you reboot the unit (besides unpluging it)?
Did anyone successplay DVD's on an USB attached DVD unit?
Will the IAMM ...1.50 firmware work on this unit? Will it fix some of the issues I have?
Thank you!

Hi Antivirus, could you help me by answering my previous questions about DHCP etc.. Also, is the telnet enabled code included in the v150 firmware? thanks
lx350hd 02-17-07, 07:00 PM Arghhh.. I took the plunge and upgraded my LX350HD firmware to v150 from v132. Ouch..Now I can't see anything on the screen, just black..Sounds like it is doing something but black screen during boot...
HELP!!!! How do I put the v132 back in there. Since I can't get into the menu I can't select the firmware option to revert back.

pmarcovi 02-17-07, 07:38 PM I have upgraded the Eureka box with the IAMM 1.50 firmware. Works like a charm. It fixed the inability of playing "original" DVD on an USB attached DVD-ROM. I can now replace my DVD player with the attached DVD-ROM!
I still have the same issue with browsing my conputer's drive: it cannot see files in folders other than the root of my drive ... I will tri to share directly the folder with movies to see if it works. I'll post the results.
If after theupgrade you see nothing or scrmabled images, press TV Out on the remote to switch the video mode. When you power it on, it defaults to PAL (I think ;-) ).

Any idea how I can recover from these devestating events? I don't know of anyway to now access the unit so I can reload the Firmware v132.
Can i somehow reload v132 with tftp by holding down SETUP-OK on power up. What actaully happens when I do that. Will the unit go looking for a boot image someplace? I don't understand this :)
antivirus 02-18-07, 06:25 AM i open telnet only in last firmware

I do not know unfortunately ... Maybe antivirus? He seems to know more ...
Another option is to call customer support. In the manual says that if for some reason, the firmware update was interrupted in some way, it needs repairing from them ...

I have solved the mistery of not seeing files in folders on my computer: permissions! I gave access (read-only) to "Everyone" the the contents of the folder, and now it works.
Overall, the Eureka 350HD with the IAMM 1.50 firmware, it rocks!

So, what I don't understand is what can you do with v150 that wasn't working in v132? What extra functionality do you have now with new firmware? Was it worth it?
Also, I can't call tech support now that i tried loading a non supported firmware..That was the risk, wasn't it :/

lx350hd,
Since you say that something seems to be happening at boot up but that the screen is black, have you tried the other video outputs? e.g. composite, s-video, etc? What about audio? Do you hear any sound (the one that is normally played at boot up)? Finally, once "booted" can you see the internal hard drive (assuming that you have one installed) on your network via NDAS?
I too was wondering of asking antivirus the same thing that you ask: "What critical extra functionality does one get with the new firmware?" Apart from the more colorful screen and the ability to set up a larger playlist on the jukebox, that is. It is indeed illuminating to see someone encourage others to jump in and try something new and then remain silent when help is needed.

Ya, I tried everything I know of to get the 350 up and running. When I turn it on the lights flash for an instant..Scrolling through the various tv outs yields same results (black screen). I tried all outputs..I do not hear any music on startup. The thing is fried.. Ya, Maybe anti virus can help me to determine how I can reload the firmware. The only published way is to go through the menus and select Firmware but obviously if I can't even get to that stage I am up a creek with out a paddle.
I have a feeling antivirus may not understand what I am asking due to german vs english issue. I think he has loaded firmware through tftp but there is no documentation on how this works. ie what exactly happens when i hold down SETUP-OK and power on? It's not published in the manual. The LX350HD manual doesn not have a "hacking" section LOL. I am expert in UNIX (15 years) but there isn't enough info on this unix to help me do anything.
Anayways, I am not too worried about this. I still have my LX351 which I havnt f*cked up yet (yet). haha
I'm really impressed at how calmly you are dealing with this! I would've freaked out by now ... but then I don't have a working LX351! ;)
Hope that antivirus can help get you back and running quickly ... maybe we'll all come out of this learning more about the LX350HD. :)
Incidently, I tried transferring a whole dvd (4.35Gb) to the h/d in the Eureka LX350HD using the implemented NDAS. It took under 23 minutes (basically I'd estimated 25 minutes and when I came back to check 23 minutes later, it was done).
So even at a transfer rate of 30 minutes per dvd, its not all that bad - you definitely don't want to stand and watch a whole library being transferred, but for transferring a couple of dvds or so overnight its definitely practical and in my case beats having to disconnect and carry from the media room!

Wow, you got 3MB/s on NDAS. You must be wired connection. When I use the Wireless G I get 666KB/s on average. Still not bad for using it to adjust files (remove, rename etc). It's convenient enough for me to USB connect it to transfer big files. I get around 16MB/s on USB2 with it. Thats about 5X faster then the NDAS wired.
Ya, I will not freek out over a $300 Canadian piece of hardware. I just like playing with this stuff. The LX350HD will be fun for the next 6 months and then I will move on to something else. I am looking at building my own server. Maybe using MythTv(linux) . Haven't decided yet.
Anti virus, please splekin some english for me and help me learn how to reload my firmware!!! Thanks
Yes, it is a wired network connection. Originally I'd used 802.11 G, but soon realized that the connection was rather flaky in the media room that I have hidden in our basement. This made the transfer prone to dropouts in the midst of watching a movie! So I took the pain to snake wires around - had to locate a phone cable that ran through the walls, cut it and use it to snake 2 wires and then reconnect the phone cable! However, now that I have the wired connection, I do not use the wireless anymore.

ya, thats a lot of effort and a shame since wireless is the way to go. They do have signal boosters for wirelsss signals. My house is pretty small so I am ok.
lx350hd 02-19-07, 07:49 AM Well, i was able to now get in to the lx350hd..Doesn't look like the firmware changed..Still says v132. The issue I have now is when i try to access the internal hard disk from USB or NDAS it says it is corrupted.
Weird thing is the LX350HD has no problem accessing the disk. I can still play all the movies on the disk. The disk is a 500GB IDE and was formated with NTFS format. I can also access shares with the 350 from the network as I could before.
Wonder why the USB and NDAS access to the HDD1 is screwed? You would think if the disk was actually correupted you wouldn't be able to access it with the 350 either?

One important feature that 1.50 added was the ability of playing "orginal"/commercial DVDs on an USB attached DVD-ROM. Thus, I was able to replace my old DVD player with the attached DVD-ROM: I do not have to switch between devices, the Eureka upconverts to 1080i, and it saves precious inputs on the receiver.

How did you manage to get in finally? And what if you were to *explicitly* flash 1.32 ... does that get you back to square 1?

I didn't actually do anything..I turned it on for another round of hopelssness and it started to work..So, I thought I was back in business until I ran into the HDD1 access issue with the USB/NDAS connections..I am guessing that somehow the format of the disk got change and it is now not seen as an NTFS partition by my Windows XP using USB connection.
I guess I will try and reformat the disk and see if taht helps..I did reflash v132 of the firmware but nothing happens.
This toy is costing me lots of time..Almost ready to give it up ..
lx350hd 02-19-07, 12:25 PM One important feature that 1.50 added was the ability of playing "orginal"/commercial DVDs on an USB attached DVD-ROM. Thus, I was able to replace my old DVD player with the attached DVD-ROM: I do not have to switch between devices, the Eureka upconverts to 1080i, and it saves precious inputs on the receiver.
If thats it I guess I don't need v150 cuz I don't do that..thanks
lx350hd 02-19-07, 12:50 PM K, next issue.. I want to remove the 500GB disk from the LX350HD. I take the cover off, remove the power connector and the cable. I try to pull the disk out of the unit and it appears stuck..I can't seem to remove the disk? Does anyone know if there is something holding the disk in there. Very difficult to see inside. I don't want to start unscrewing the thing incase it falls apart or something.
There should be nothing holding the disk as such behind it, but there is a plastic sliding "lock" that will need to be removed first before you can pull the disk out.

i never used the plastic sliding lock, the drive slides a little but is stuck..maybe try removing yours and u c what i mean.

I had to shake it and tug it a little to get it out. I think that the opening is barely big enough for the drive so it can easily get "stuck". But there was nothing else holding it back.

Couldn't get the drive out..Give up!!!
Anyways, since my drive appeared to have a corrupt NTFS structure I recreated the partition and formated..Back in business.. I am pretty sure I know what happened to the disk. Looks like NDAS has a nasty little bug in it! Be careful with NDAS write access mode.

Did the drive get corrupted when you wrote something to it? Or was it the attempted loading of 1.50?
Also, did you try using a chain saw? That should generally get that drive out ... ;)

Not too sure..I don't believe it was the firmware.May have happened way before that since I hadn't tried reaccessing it via NDAS or USB after the last time before firmware upgrade. I am betting NDAS has bug.
lx350hd 02-20-07, 10:34 PM I am trying to take a stab at mounting the romfs from the LX350HD so I can see the code under Linux.
this was quite useful to at least get started to understand romfs: http://lxr.linux.no/source/Documentation/filesystems/romfs.txt
This is what I did so far..
- installed Fedora Core 5
- copied the romfs-novatron-iamm35-1-1-1-1-150.pkg file to my Fedora system
- tried to mount
mount -t romfs -o loop=/dev/loop1 romfs-novatron-iamm35-1-1-1-1-150.pkg /lx350hd
I get error:
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/loop1,
missing codepage or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
dmesg | tail or so
dmesg has some extra info:
VFS: Can't find a romfs filesystem on dev loop1.
Any ideas how to mount this romfs under linux? Do I have to convert it to something first or unencrypt it somehows? Or, maybe I gotta extract some bytes with something like this "dd if=romfs-novatron-iamm35-1-1-1-1-150.pkg of=romfs-novatron-iamm35-1-1-1-1-150NEW.pkg bs=1 skip=108"
ie. the byte before the x'1F8B' in that file.
Thanks bunches. AntiVirus, your help would be invaluable. Hope you come back from holdays soon to answer our newbie questions!!! :D
I am guessing that if I do manage to get this going I can then modify some stuff in the mounted files and genromfs it back to a file and load that back to my LX350HD. ie. http://www.die.net/doc/linux/man/man8/genromfs.8.html
- copied the romfs-novatron-iamm35-1-1-1-1-150.pkg file to my Fedora system
- tried to mount
mount -t romfs -o loop=/dev/loop1 romfs-novatron-iamm35-1-1-1-1-150.pkg
What I did successfully mounting it was this
mount -t romfs -o loop /pathtoBINfile /whereiwantedtomountit (I forgot how the syntaxis is, but I did it also as a readonly)
with no problems, of course first I had to remove the BEFORE 1f8b, then I could open it as a file.gz, I renamed it to gz just in case it is not obvious. inside the .gz there is a bin file, this is the file I mounted (as i do with cd/dvd images) with the command/syntaxis I wrote above and taraaaa in /whereiwantedtomountit it was the whole cmlinux directories. So far I haven't done anything, I was just curious to see what was inside. To be honest with you I have NO CLUE how to recompile it to bin again once you are done with the modifications. I kind of read somewhere it should be done with genromfs but as I said. No idea yet. If you figure it out, please do tell me. Never is enough knowledge :)

Good timing my friend..I was missing the last step and I did actually figure this out..Once I ran my DD to get rid of the header bytes I then ran it through "gzip -d" and them mounted it as a loop!
I now see the structure:

Here is the steps to build new Firmware for LX350HD. Antivirus, please correct me if I have wrong step someplace:
# Install a Linux of your choice - ie Fedora
# copy the PKG file to your Linux ie. romfs-sdt-LX350HD-1-1-1-1-132.pkg (lastest firmware for LX350HD)
# Extract the gzip file
dd if=romfs-sdt-LX350HD-1-1-1-1-132.pkg of=rompkg_pack_tmp.bin.gz bs=1 skip=108
# Unzip it
gzip -d rompkg_pack_tmp.bin.gz
# Extract the boot header
dd if=romfs-sdt-LX350HD-1-1-1-1-132.pkg of=romfs-sdt-LX350HD-1-1-1-1-132BootHeader.pkg bs=1 count=108
# Mount the clinux files on your linux box
mkdir /lx350hd
mount -t romfs -o loop=/dev/loop1 rompkg_pack_tmp.bin /lx350hd
# make copy of the read-only files so you can mod them
mkdir /lx350hd_write
cp -pr /lx350hd/* /lx350hd_write
# Change files with vi under the writable structure /lx350hd_write
# download and install rpm for genromfs for your Linux - http://rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/mandri...1-3mdk.ppc.html
rpm -i genromfs-0.5.1-3mdk.ppc.rpm
# Genromfs to new romfs - small correction Feb 22 on byte alignment
genromfs -d /lx350hd_write -f rompkg_pack_tmp.bin -V 'mambo'
# Gzip it back up
gzip rompkg_pack_tmp.bin
# Concatenate the header and gzipped romfs back again for final Firmware
cat romfs-sdt-LX350HD-1-1-1-1-132BootHeader.pkg rompkg_pack_tmp.bin.gz >romfs-sdt-LX350HD-1-1-1-1-132NEW.pkg
# Load the new firmware to your LX350HD - romfs-sdt-LX350HD-1-1-1-1-132NEW.pkg
Of interest here is the format of a gzip file:
Compressed bytes in hexadecimal hexample:
1f8b 0808 62ab 1d45 0003 7465 7374 2e74 7874 000b c948 5528 2ccd 4cce 5648 2aca 2fcf 5348 cbaf 50c8 2acd 2d28 56c8 2f4b 2d52 2801 4ae7 2456 552a a4e4 a7eb 7101 006a cc50 eb2d 0000 00
Interpretation
Bytes are packed with the least significant bit first. For example, the number 1810 would be packed as 01001000 and would appear in hexidecimal as 48.
1f8b 0808 62ab 1d45 0003
These ten bits are the header. We can see that the compression method is 08, and that the flags value is 08, eg bit 3 is set, thus the next field will be the original file name. The modification time is 62ab 1d45 (least significant byte first) = 1,159,572,322 seconds.
7465 7374 2e74 7874 00
This Zero-Terminated sting can be seen to encode test.txt and be terminated by 00
0b c948 5528 2ccd 4cce 5648 2aca 2fcf 5348 cbaf 50c8 2acd 2d28 56c8 2f4b 2d52 2801 4ae7 2456 552a a4e4 a7eb 7101 00
The compressed data. The first byte, 0b is packed in reverse order, and represents the bit order 1100000. The first bit indicates that this is the last block or compressed data. The next two bits indicate the compression method (00-uncompressed, 01-static hauffman coding, 10-dynamic hauffman coding, 11-reserved). This file has the bits 10, and thus uses dynamic hauffman coding.
NOTES(should have a new page):
compression method 00, as determined by the first byte, indicates that the data is stored in the following set of bytes. The data has two header fields: 2 bytes of length variable, and two bytes of the length variable's 1's compliment. This is folowed by <length variable> bytes of data.
6a cc50 eb2d 0000 00
This is the CRC32 value and filesize (both encoded with least significant byte first). The filesize is 2d 0000 00 = 45 bytes of input data.

Sizziler 02-22-07, 09:03 AM Ok, I am not much of a technological guy, but I just got this device recently, finally got the firmware 1.1.32 installed with the help of the manufacturer. I placed a Western Digital (WD2500JB) Caviar EIDE 250GB ATA-100 7200RPM 8MB Buffer in it.
Now here is my problem, I get random sections of lost video. If I am running the video via wireless it all goes black with no sound for a second or two. The time frame decreases if I use a wired ethernet connection and then decreases if I am using the hard drive. But there seems to be nothing I can do to stop the loss of video.
I checked and it is not the video files, even if I rewind the video a few seconds, the section that was skipped over is played perfectly.
Hopefully someone knows what is wrong and can give me a hand. Ask me questions if I missed out anything important.

A few thoughts ...
Sounds like a network speed issue to me. At least the wireless one. A few "standard" questions:
a) When you plugged in the wired ethernet, you did ensure that the wireless connection was "off" and not being used, right? (check in the setup screens)
b) I suppose that your network is not an older 10Mb network, but a newer 100Mb or 1Gb one?
The dropouts while playing video from the internal hard disk are harder to understand. Was this a freshly formatted drive which was then filled with video or was it one that you had in another machine? I'm wondering if the files on the disk are badly fragmented ...

I just finished downloading a bunch of rm and rmvb video files.. The LX350HD does not even recognize these types..Any suggestions on how to convert them to something this unit will play? Or, even better, maybe those types can be added to the player in this unit through changing the firmware..hmm
thanks

To answer the questions:
a) The wireless connection was off, there was a small improvement, definitely knew it was wired because the file loaded very fast, comparatively.
b) The network is a newer one at 100Mb.
c) It is a bran new hard drive, fresh out of the bag.

Just some basic questions to levelset where we are at:
Is your LX350HD geting an ip address when it boots?
If so, can you ping it from your dell?
Can you see the share from another computer on the network to ensure it is actually visible?
Is your dell running a VPN, a long shot?

The Eureka has 192.168.0.102 IP Address.
Dell has 192.168.0.100
Both assign by DHCP router.
I can ping Eureka from Dell and from other computer. From another computer I also can ping Eureka and I can see sharing directories from Dell (firs i was asked a password).
What about NDAS ? Why he shows me thad the HD from Eureka is disconnected ?
I have a Seagate 500 Gb HD in Eureka, with a single partition.

The Eureka can't answer with password as far as I know..Try making share without a password requirement, perhaps..Just something to try. gl

Have you checked your Local Security Settings?
open a command prompt and type in
C:\]secpol.msc <enter>
Now go to Local Policies -> User Rights Assignment ... and ensure that the following are ok:
"Access this computer from the network" ... the user "Everyone" should be in there
"Deny access to this computer from the network" ... take everything out except the one that looks like SUPPORT_388945a0
Check the other keys also to ensure that nothing obvious is blocking anything.
Now go to Account Policies->Password Policy. Ensure that "Minimum password length" is set to 0. Also disable the following two keys
"Password must meet complexity requirements" and
"Store password using reversible encryption for all users in the domain" (not sure about this one ... mine is disabled)
Finally, go to your Shared Documents, right click and choose Properties, goto the Security tab and ensure that everyone has access to read and list at the very least (I just give full control to everyone). Now go to the Sharing tab and then click "Permissions". Make sure that the user "Everyone" is there and just give them Full Control.
Now check from the Eureka and let us know ...

It's working fine now. I can see the shared folders.
Only one problem though...When I enter some subfolders the device is blocking and I have to reset then.
The NDAS isn’t working also. I try to connect Eureka to PC by a crossover cable and then NDAS start to work. But over Wi-Fi it's doesn't work.
Any ideas why it isn't working over Wi-Fi ?

Great!

Not quite sure that I understand ... is it that when you try to view the contents of a subfolder from the Eureka, you see nothing? Or is it the case that the Eureka freezes up and requires a reboot?
If its the former (i.e. you cannot see the contents of subfolders), try the following:
right click on the Shared Document folder and select the "Security" tab. Click the "Advanced" button and a new window will pop up. Go to the "Permissions" tab and ensure that all users have Read, Write and Execute on the root folder AND the subfolders AND files. If not click on the User permission object and make sure that the properties apply to "This folder, subfolders and files". If no such line exists in the "Advances Security Settings" tab, then "Add" a new permission and check the little tick box that says "Inherit from parent the permission ...."
If its the latter (Eureka freezing up) ... then I'm not sure what may be the problem.

The ID and Read/Write keys are different for the wired and wireless connections (at least they are in my case). Did you enter the correct wireless addresses within the NDAS manager program?

If you open the lid that is in the HD spot, you will see a different MAC Address for the wireless connection. One MAC address is in the format: AB:06:56:A0:FF etc... I agree with sankar, I bet you did enter the mac address of the wired connection only.

I must be so stupid.....I didn't open the HDD side door, Of course first I introduced the number for the wired network . Now it's working fine after I changed the number for the Wi-FI network.
Thank again everyone for all the info. I never donned without your help.

Convert Matroska MKV to AVI

Good luck
forkart 03-03-07, 08:36 AM You can also use yasa video converter to convert mkv to avi . It works well for me.
I have the LX350HD connected to my DVDO iScan VP50 via the DVI port and the VP50 sends a 720p output to my Projector.
I would prefer to have all the scaling etc done by the VP50 (for I assume that it has the better electronics/algorithms for this job). I don't however seem to find any way by which I can set the Eureka to send 480i (via DVI or Component) -- aren't SD-dvd images basically 480i? The only settings available are 480p, 720p and 1080i which means that the Eureka is already doing some kind of interpolation (or a 3:2 pull down).
I do remember reading somewhere that the DVI standard does not include 480i (but that HDMI does). Is that why the Eureka cannot send out 480i? What about via its component output?
What output settings do others use?
RetroDeviant 05-05-07, 07:59 PM Hello all.
I've been reading this forum pretty avidly today. Sifting through stuff.
I just bought the LX350 yesterday and after a bit of fenaggling managed to get it up and running on the network.
I can access my laptop files from the 350 no problem, playing the shared files with ease.
What I can't seem to figure out how to do properly, and it might just be that I'm being an idiot in some way or another, is to physically move files from my laptop to the 350, via the wireless connection.
Sankar...it seems like you've had some luck with this. Mind shooting me a few pointers?
I can't seem to get the 350 to show up my laptop so i can move files to it wirelessly.

Have you installed the NDAS software that came with the box? If you follow the directions in the manual (including the required keys, which are printed on the end of the 350 where the hard drive is inserted), you end up with the 350 mounted as just another drive letter on your pc.
cHarOn99 05-07-07, 03:57 AM Ok as it looks like that Antivirus brings nothing anymore because i think after 4 Months waiting we at hdd-player decided to make the opensource project going so i made an Firmware based on Iamm (NTD36HD) which is the same device as the eureka, i implemented f-t-p and h-t-t-p access to the iamm or eureka. The only Problem right now is that you cant write to the iamm or eureka because of the limitation about ntfs, if your hdd is formated in fat32 or ext3 then writing is also avaible, but with ext3 it is not that good right now because the gui of the device dont binds ext3 automatic.
I and the admin from hdd-player.de are in contact with novatron about an new firmware with full ext3 support (read/write), we hope that novatron brings that out really soon.
If you want f-t-p and h-t-t-p access right now you can download my firmware at

more Informations can you get at this thread it is also described in english

sauvergb 05-07-07, 02:48 PM Great unit.. but any way to update the firmware with a more 'friendly' easy to use UI ? especially to navigate music files..

Did installing the NDAS software resolve this issue?
I purchased the LX350 for 2 reasons - to play multimedia content through my TV; and to be able to transfer content using a wireless connection (using my laptop to connect to the device via my router - a bulk standard Netgear 54mb/s).
I've installed the NDAS software and although it works its extremely slow. Copying 500mb of 1-2mb images takes a very very long time. My laptop is connecting to the wireless LAN at between 40-50mb/s and I would think that the LX350 is also connecting at similar speeds (since its within 5 meters of the router). I am not aware of any way to see what the connection speed is from the the LX350 to the wireless LAN.
I've loaded the latest firmware and can't see any misconfiguration problem. In its current state I fail to see what anyone would actually use the wireless connection for since its just too slow - especially if you're intending on using the device for either streaming or pushing multimedia files across the wireless connection?
SV_Trinity 11-01-07, 05:45 AM So far have been impressed with the playback quality of my brand new LX350HDN, but have had no success playing back HiDef files.
I am trying to play some homebrew HD-DVD made with Pinnacle Studio v11, but the ZIO won't play the ISO.
Has anyone had any success playing back HD files?
crankbearing 02-07-08, 06:20 PM Hey All,
I have been researching a media player to replace my HTPC in the living room, I have an Unraid server in the basement serving my movie over the wired network in the house.
My question is this. Is there a cover art option for the movies in the shared drives or do you have to scan each folder and pick the movie you want. If this is a above could you place a CVR.jpg or the like in the movie folder and would the LX350 pick that up. I have 10 shared drives in that server and scrolling threw all those drives to pick out a movie would be a process.
Regards,
DVS
SexyAnkles 02-19-08, 12:25 PM I am very interesting in purchasing one of these and saw it in action briefly playing video files. My concern is the music functionality, which I have seen posts along the same lines, but never a response.
Does it have the ability to integrate with iTunes playlists or something along those lines, or is it strictly a "pick a file and start playing" interface?
Is there the ability for me to play the files on my PC through iTunes and have it stream the output, as opposed to stream the files and playing them on the device?
Thanks
