I would like to know if anyone has purchased the 27x40 economy movie poster frames from hollywoodposterframes.com. If so, please comment on the quality and construction of the frames, and the deep of the frame. Also explain how easy it is to swap out posters in the frame. In my home theater room, I want to swap out movie posters on a regular basis. On the website (http://www.hollywoodposterframes.com/frames.htm), it indicates that the frames come with a genuine UV filtered plexiglass but doesn't indicate the thickness of the plexiglass. If someone knows that information, please let me know. Is it worth the extra $10 to get the Non-glare, UV plexiglass? Also is acid foamcore backing worth the extra dollars? The movie posters that I have right now are not valuable.

You might want to check them out. They went FAST!!!
I felt they were good for the price. I bought 3 of them but had to return one because it was scratched. i still need to find one more!

The Walmart ones are really cheap in quality. I waited for a 50% off frame sale at Michael's and got some halfway decent ones for the same price as the Walmart ones!

Every once in a while Michaels has thier poster frames for $10 for any frame. Just had that sale 2 weeks ago.

They are the kind where it has the U shaped plastic banding and a thin plexiglass cover.

They look halfway decent IMO, and for $10 each, I cant complain.

I bought eight of the economy frames from them, but in the 11x17 size. They're solid and work fine. Not sure on the UV plexiglass. It takes a couple of minute to change out posters. They use L brackets to keep the top and side frames together (slides into a grove on each side of the frame). Two screws to loosen to remove the top. No big deal, really. I didn't get all the extras. Not sure you need it.

I have the Walmart frames, and yes, they are very cheaply made. But, once on the wall and you aren't touching them anymore, who cares how they "feel"?

I think they were a great buy for the price.

I picked up the Michael's frames a few weeks ago when they were on sale for $10. They are def cheap but they look OK to me. Only thing is they have a lot of glare so try not to put diretly in light.

I can't find any 27x40 frames at Michaels locally. They have some nice frames, in colors other than black even, that are slightly smaller and work well for other types of posters/prints, but nothing in the 27x40 range.

Wal-mart has some locally though for around $20 each. They have a collage mat that you can remove when inserting a movie poster.

If you have an IKEA anywhere by your house they have the best deal on frames of all types. I use the Ribba Series (http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10103&storeId=12&langId=-1&productId=10724) for all of my framing in my house.

The biggest one is 28.25x40.25 (27.25x39.25 poster size), is available in black wood, natural birch wood, medium brown wood and white painted wood (although I have never personally seen the white ones they claim to have them). The frame is about 1" wide and 1.5" deep. They come with a precut white mat that you can either recut or not use, a ~1/8" backing board, and the mounting hardware. The glazing is just normal 1/8" plexiglass (all of the smaller frames use real glass). The everyday price is $25 but they do not sell them online.

I have several of these large frames and tons of all the other sizes. Needless to say my house is littered with these frames. The only issue I have had with the frames is that I have two horizontal (22 high x 36 long) posters and the hanging wire was not long enough so I just cut some off my spool. Also when hung in the horizontal position the bottom sagged a bit so I put in two little eyehooks and strung some hanging wire between the top and bottom. This solved the issue.

I have not had any issues when using them to hang vertical posters for which they were designed for.

I bought 11 of them for my lobby, bathroom, etc., and there wasn't a bad one in the bunch.

FWIW, Michael's has all of their poster frames on sale this week, 30% off. I picked up the $40 27x40 size last night for $28. They're much nicer than the ones Wal-mart had for $20.

For smaller posters, they have some really nice frames in different finishes (silver, mahogany, etc) at a great price.

The Framesusa frames are the ones I use. I get the wood black clean cut.

hi, i've never framed posters before but saw that michael's was having a sale on frames this week so i picked up a couple of the black plastic 27X40s

my concern is the frame is bending concave slightly (all of the frames in the rack at michaels seemed to be) and after i put my poster in, there's still slight warping

is there an effective/safe way to 'flatten' them out before i hang them? i'm afraid with the current warping they won't hang flush against the wall (and as its concave will jut outward) and won't hang as stable


also, for anyone with experience specific to this frame, any suggestions as to the best way to hang the frame? the latch on the back appears to support simple hanging on a nail/nails, but it doesn't seem like it'd be very secure?


i greatly appreciate any advice or suggestions anyone can offer

Greg - I have some of the Michael's frames and I might be able to help.

Regarding the "warping": The snaps on the back allow for a certain amount of adjustment. Slide them appropriately before you snap them into place to account for any movement in the frame.

For hanging: I found that hanging on the "snaps", as opposed to the included hangers, worked just fine in my application. You may want to opt for an anchor of some sort if you're hanging on sheetrock/drywall though.

irmogamecoq, i was a little confused after reading your post as i wasn't sure what you meant by the snaps and hangers

i stopped by a michaels today and realized you were probably talking about the michael's trendsetters frames (still plastic, but a bit sturdier/thicker than the cheapo ones i got) as i saw the snaps/hangers you mentioned

the frames i got are on sale for 10 bucks and (i'd post a link to the product page, but i cant post htmls yet..) .. basically they're the cheapest frames michael's sells with the 4 pieces of plastic sliding for the frame and the pressboard/corkboard backing

the backing is too thin to attach any real hanging hardware (ie hooks, wirehangers, etc) and the lady at michaels said all i could use was the builtin hanger, which is basically a little piece of metal with serrations pressed onto the backing


i'll assume it's strong enough by design since there's no other ez way to hang it and it looks like it's all that you're supposed to use... so i hooked it onto a frame hanger


it looks like it'll hold, but my main problem now is still with the convex 'warping' of the frame itself.. it isnt nearly flush on the wall and because the entire frame is hanging off one central hanger, it looks quite wobbly and definitely juts off the wall

does anyone have any advice/suggestions to make the frame more flush? i'm trying to flatten the frames out by laying them on the floor under some weights, but i'm not sure if it'll do any good

i know these frames stink, but i can't afford better frames right now and these are really just for personal use in my room

again, any advice/tips would be greatly apprecaited and thanks in advance everyone!

Oh, I gotcha...I know what kind of frames you're talking about now.

I've owned one like that, that I've since relegated to "backup" duty. Basically holding old posters out in my garage. ;)

As for the bowing, I might suggest a little duct tape. I know, it's lo-tech and all, but if you're careful with it, and keep it on the back side only, you'd never know it was there.

Another use for duct tape is as a frame straightener. Just wad up a little section of it, with adhesive side out, and place it on a back corner of your frame (any frame in this case) once you've got it straight/level. It'll stay that way unless there's some type of earthquake level trauma. :)

i'm not too clear for the duct-tape bowing; how should i apply the duct tape? a straight strip across the length of the frame that sticks at top/bottom?

i like the tape as straightener idea and will def. try it out too; it sounds like this might flush it closer to the wall

Use the duct tape however it will help you with the bowing. My experience with this type of frame is that it "bowed" out near the corners. If that's the case, duct tape the corners together diagonally to hold them together. On the back where it's not visible, of course.

If it's bowing more towards the middle, you can still duct tape it, you'll just attach it more to the card board backing.

Of course, this solution means you won't be able to swap out posters as easily.

I have 4 of the same exact frames from Michael's and experienced the same bowing issue. My wife suggested we use velcro to fix it and it worked perfectly. We placed velcro (a very strong variety of it that we actually bought right at Michael's ironically) on the back of the frame in each of the four corners and the other half of the velcro on the wall behind those spots and then stick them on. The velcro on the wall holds the frame flush evenly and no bowing. We did this about 2 months ago and still holding and working perfectly.

Do these Michael's $10 sales include the 27"x40" Trendsetters frames, which regularly sell for $39.99? These are about the only thing I like right now at Michael's. They are currently having a sale, but all the $10 ones are the cheap smaller frames. The 27x40 trendsetters are on sale right now for 50% off or $20. hi guys just wondering what dya use to hang your movie poster frames? i'm thinking of using adhesive picture hangers from 3M for my wireback frames but i'm afraid about the weight limits. trying not to drill holes in my wall unless i absolutely have to. issit advisable to use 2 or more of these adhesive picture hangers together?

the frames that I bought from IKEA came with the wire.. I just put 2 skinny nails in the wall and leveled out the picture.. Ck my gallery for some posters..hope this helps
