Anybody else have this problem?. If my Runco CL420 is idle for a couple of weeks, sometimes a few days it will freeze up. The fan will come on a I can see a light inside but no image on the screen. If I wait minutes or hours the power button on the remote will not turn off the projector. The only way to reboot is to unplug it. This has happened maybe 5 times but this last one was the worst. My Dad was in town and to try and explain that it happens to a 4k projector but not the $900 POS he has is embarrassing to say the least. "Wait a minute while a get a step stool and unplug it and let it cool down" I will admit that my theater room was a little warm due to weather but it still doesnt explain the other instances I have had. My local Runco dealer I purchased it from says " its an electronic thing" doesn't seem to cut it. Any ideas or thoughts?

This is an unacceptable answer. Call Runco direct and tell them that. In the meantime, post a picture of your projector as mounted in your room.

Here you go. What are you thinking? Looking for too warm an area?

You wrote that it was “a little warm" when your PJ froze up. Can you be more specific, i.e. how many degrees F or C?

Thanks for the photo. This would not be a heat problem unless the filter is clogged or the temp sensor is faulty. Call Runco and report the problem and your dealer's lack of response in terms of dealing with the issue.

I would say approx 80F. I have central AC but the room is on the west side and it takes the heat all afternoon and evening. The room may have been 80F. But I have had this problem a few times before, winter or summer. This time the PJ was left on for approx 3 hours in the "frozen " stage and the overheat light came on which hasn't happened before.

Thanks for your response. I will call Runco today and post their response. I probably shouldnt have mentioned heat because it has done it before at any given time. The worst thing was I set up the room for my father to watch a movie while I let for a game and I knew it was going to happen. Sure enough.

A replacement PJ is on its way! Runco was great, they are contacting my local dealer and making arrangements to have it replaced..what more could I ask for.

People have a tendency to bash Runco based on price. Your money is buying you something besides a great projector, some of the very best customer service.

I would hope the owner of your dealer's store would also call and apologize for his employee brushing your problem off.

Well its now November and have not seen a repair tech as of yet. It was diagnosed as a "Firmware" problem and an "IR board problem" Calls to Runco basically dont do a whole lot of good as they tell me contact the rep. The rep insists that parts are on the way and as soon as they get here they will call. Well calling every 2 weeks to find out when they are going to fix my PJ is starting to get old. So there you have it, paying up front for " Great Service"

My local Runco dealer sent out the tech to replace the IR board and install new firmware in December. The first time I turned the projector on after the "repairs" it tuned on and then after 1 minute it decided to turn itself off and then back on with no light output. This time I was able to turn it off with the remote. It restarted fine. Approx 2 weeks later, I turn on the PJ and it is almost fired up when it decides to turn off again. Place call to dealer and get no response. Now in Jan it does it 2 more times and leave message for the dealers tech....nothing.

I am thinking tommorrow morning I will call Runco (again) and listen to them tell me to call my dealer and have them send out a tech!!!! Has anybody else had this type of problem with their projector? I just get the feeling they dont know what is wrong with it.

Recap: Early in the year the projector was sent to Runco for repair and was returned with basically the same problem, frickin idiots. In April I was offered a new one, not a refurb, supposedly new. After approx 2 months the exhaust/lamp fan starts getting louder. A Runco rep happens to be in town and takes care of problem in 2 days. I have since heard from another Runco CL420 owner with the same problem, so BEWARE, you are paying more for service cuz you are gonna need it!!!

Update: I have had a conversation or two regarding my projector with the new Runco owners and at this point am very pleased with their interest in making me a happy customer.

You must be bluffing, Runcos can't break down, they are very expensive :)

Glad this was taken care of.

I worked with Brian Carskadon in the past when he was with another company. I'm glad Planar/Runco hired him. He was always caring about the customers.

Thanks for taking the time to post your experience with the 420.

My way of venting, seemed to be the only way to get a response and it worked, but all is or will soon be good.
