N.b. I have posted the same request and info at dtvforum in Australia
After a month of questioning ACER, the techs in Texas have informed me that 1080P on the ACER AT3705-DTV is only possible through component and NOT HDMI or DVI.
Now I realize that you can get at least 1920 X 1080 at 30 mhz progressive and more through a computer (I got up to 50mhz), but when I tried to connect a Samsung DVD-HD-960 (which can display at 1080P) and connected the player to my Acer TV (via both HDMI and DVI), I received an "out of range" message, i.e. it did not work.
So I called ACER, brought in my TV for repair (I was given an rma), I waited four weeks for an answer and after eight calls to Acer (I had to contact them, when the local repair place was doing nothing to repair my TV), finally learned that it only supports 1080P through component!
Needlessless to say, this is problematic. Blu-ray players only support 1080P though HDMI, as is true with my upconverting Samsung player. I bought my ACER TV thinking I could hook it up to a Blu-ray player or PS3. This isn't going to happen.
It seems although advertised as 1080P, it has no real functionality in this respect vis-a-vis Dvd players.
Anyway, I was wondered whether anyone can confirm that 1080P Dvd players (upconverting or Blu-ray) do not work with this TV and HDMI (or DVI for that matter). It doesn't make sense to me, seeing that it can display a 1920 X 1080 at 30 mhz progressive via computer video card.
I had great hopes for this set, but I admit, know I feel very mislead by ACER and my experience with their tech service has been truly awful.
