In Australia we have these two new beasts to consider, benefit of being so close to Asia i guess. Have you guys heard of them?

Modix HD-3520 (http://www.modixsales.com.au/modix_player_accessories.html#modix2)

Sarotech DVP-570HD (http://www.sarotech.com/english/cgi/pd.cgi?cmd=view&rno=19)

Would they be better than a MG with Wi-Fi??

Sarotech never returned any emails sent to their tech supports. Try it and feel it. That's the very negative sign doesn't matter how good the prod is. You pay to buy it home, if it got stucked, you're sucked.

cooldrive dealer has statement on the sale page of this box: Buy it and use it at your own rish :-< pretty scarried, right. Another bad news is this company seemed "history." Tried to open sarotech.com but got "page not found" error. So what cooldrives are selling may be something left over after the "shutdown" auction. Excep the box looks coold but everything else is not cool at all until we hear the difference.

I just bought the Sarotech DVP-570HD based on several recommendations and user reviews and so far it works great!

Short review:
The video playback is good with no skips or lag & music is crisp and clear. Haven't tried the FM radio or viewing photos on it yet, but the vid & audio playback is more important for me at this point. The drive also accepts external storage devices such as thumbdrives or other portable HDDs which is a bonus!

Only problem I've encountered so far is that I'm running a wireless network at home and while the manual and the guy at the store DID say that it can be connected to the network and act as a network drive, I still haven't been able to get this up and running, so I've had to hook it up to my computer via USB to transfer the files, which is abit of a pain. Still trying to figure out what the problem is before i cave in and call the local distributor for assistance.

Hi

To connect via wireless you need an ACCESS POINT
(something like Linksys WAP54G Access Point),
and then a time and luck to get it working fine....

I have just finished to connect yesterday and finally it works!!
cheers... :)

For >>> joenq9652 <<<

I agree with you!!! but actually they returned an email to me...
They said:" Look to the manual" ah ah ah ah ah aha h

If I have to look to the manual I do not need to contact you....

I just read at the forum that wifi wd work on DVP570 if it is connected through router like linksys. I would appreciate if you could guide me as to how it is connected as I have the router and just bought the DVP 570, but unable to activate wifi on it.
Thanks

Hi There,

I actually still haven't gotten my Abigs connected to the wireless network, but I've read that this can be accomplished by purchasing a wireless bridge like the Linksys WET54G.

I'll probably get to doing this at some point, but iti's not a big priority now..

I don't know if anyone is following this thread, but I've had the Modix HD-3520 for about 1 week and it has done nothing but consume my time. The box doesn't control subtitles for mp4 files, so of course I wasn't paying attention when I encoded them and now I have it printed on the TV screen. The commands on the remote, despite saying subtitle, only work with DIVX. If you are seriously going to be working with 720p and care about picture quality, this isn't the device for you. I haven't even found a firmware that works on the unit, yet despite following the directions closely, the device reporting successful firmware update, the menu system refuses to accept user input - from either the hardware panel or the remote control.

There is also a problem of the device falsely selecting the recycle bin when you browse the directory to play a video file.

Thermal problems are evident, the hard drive is too close to the motherboard. I think it is terrible that the company would not address these issues. This is a product that simply should not be on the market. I don't know why as it has been 2 years now and the user forum on the USA web site is practically dead. I think everyone has given up on it.

I know the concept sound very attractive, but stay away. If they would just spend a little time addressing these concerns instead of trying to support every possible codec in the world, it would be a better product. Even as I write this it is hard to let it go, REST IN PEACE HD-3520, I barely knew thee!!!

I'm using firmware version 1.12 on the abigs. Also have the same problem with playlists; trying to open the music playlist will crash the unit.

REGARDING FILES NOT APPEARING ON THE ABIGS ONCE ITS CONNECTED TO A MONITOR:

My abigs came with version 1.12 and a 400GB Samsung HDD. I think the best thing to do would be to create 3 separate partitions on the disk like TRI. (ie MUSIC/MOVIES/PHOTOS). For a while I wasn't able to see the most recent uploads to abigs when it connected to a monitor.

After a bit of playing around and creating numerous new folders, all the files re-appeared. This would indicate a problem with (indexing?) or something else; so if your file list is too long the last added files wouldn't appear. CREATE MORE FOLDERS! Once you've cleaned up your file list with the usb connected to your computer, all your files should re-appear. If this doesn't work, and you have too many files then back-up the files and partition the abigs HDD.

NOW I HAVE GOTTEN FAMILIAR WITH THIS UNIT I WOULD RECOMMEND IT, HOWEVER I SEE THERE IS A NEWER VERSION WITH BUILT IN WIRELESS

NOTE: THE ABIGS DVP-570 WILL ONLY STREAM FILES FROM PC TO ABIGS, BUT YOU CANNOT COPY/TRANSFER FILES THIS WAY. YOU MUST USE THE USB TO TRANSFER FILES.
